The restaurant is very clean and I liked how I was able to see into the kitchen. The decor on the wall was also very cute -- it showed the different noodles shapes! I am a huge fan of the noodles here -- very wide, flat and chewy. They also do not skimp out on the amount of food that they give you. The portions here are HUGE! The noodles are amongst the better ones I have tried in recent years. We heard of this place from a friend who lives in Fremont, so we drove down to Milpitas to check this out. It is in the same plaza as the popular porridge place and New China Tofu (where they used to sell Stinky tofu - but that is for a different story). The place is roomy and clean, the service was decent, friendly enough but we had to ask for sharing bowls and spoons. The order is the usual QR code so you order online, but pay offline. They have plenty of selection, but since it was just the 2 of us, and based on the name, noodles should be must orders. We had a soupy version (hot and sour fish) and a dry version (spicy ground pork), with a side order of cold appetizer (shredded tofu skin salad). The cold appetizer was a bit salty, but the overall flavor was pretty good. We added more chili oil that is available on the table. There was a wait between the appetizer and the next dish, we finished the appetizer before the first noodle arrived. Hot & Hour Fish - we selected the hand-cut noodles. The noodles were thick with just the right amount of chewiness. The broth was amazing with just enough kick, not too spicy. The fish was tender and the tofu was wonderful. The only "veggie" was the pickled/perserved mustard greens. We really enjoyed this one. Dry/Stir spicy noodles with ground pork - we selected the thick flat noodles for this. The presentation was beautiful and we could smell the chili powder and it was wonderful. A bit oily, which i understand as we need the oil to get the sauce mixed and noodles do not all stick together. About a month ago, hubby and I came here for an early lunch on a Sunday. We came in time before noon as the restaurnt became quite busy after. We were seated near the kitchen so we were able to look in and see BTS. The restaurant is very spacious, clean and bright with a modern design. Chewey texture just as I like it. Comes with a whole egg and beef. It had a good balace of savory and spiciness. 3. Wide noodles w/ braised chicken: This dish is delish but it's a BIG dish like a whole chicken was prepared! Can feed up to 4-5 people. It's the size of a medium pizza or even a Large.The thick sauce is very flavorful but not salty. It comes with potatoes, carrots, onions, green bell peppers, and dried whole chili. We happened to be visiting in the area for the weekend and remembered how yummy the soft opening in Roseville was that we wanted to try this initial location and compare thinking it would be better! We were definitely surprised with so many more options vs Roseville and ordered quite a bit of food to try. We started with a few appetizers to build up to our noodles. They have lamb sticks and chicken sticks at this location and we didn't recall it at the other. We ordered (2) chicken sticks at 4.99/each and kids liked it. We ordered Crab Rangoon to try. My SIL said it tasted as expected. We recall not liking the wonton in chili at the other location due to the peanut flavor profile so chose to order the dumplings with hot chili sauce at this location. The dumplings weren't that great here either and it came out in a chili oil "soup" w/bok choy. It was lacking serious flavor. We chose the shrimp, pork and chive and it didn't taste anything like it was supposed to. On to our noodle orders. My youngest ordered Dan Dan Noodles w/flat noodles since he enjoyed my bowl in Roseville. This one came out with more soup and was lacking flavor. The noodles came out looking like wide noodles. Flat noodles came out the same as my oldest with wide flat noodles. I was at a loss on what to order between beef and tomato or seafood noodles and went with Spicy seafood as I don't recall it being offered at Roseville and also chose flat noodles. The soup had a seafood base but I was overwhelmed with how much noodle they gave in the bowl. My bowl looked absolutely nothing like the advertisement on the menu. (See pics). This was really disappointing as my bowl looked like a mix of baby size seafood cut up with imitation seafood vs full shrimp and bigger seafood medley as advertised. We all felt like wide flat and flat noodles were all the same size like they had an overage of wide cut noodles in the back left over. Noodles tasted like it was sitting out clumped together vs freshly made that morning. Possibly our fault for coming at opening but we did the same in Roseville and the noodles were really good! We sadly would not come back to this location and will continue to go to the Roseville location. We tried Highland Noodles right when they opened with a group of three, and it ended up being such a pleasant surprise. There was plenty of seating, the space was super clean, the staff was nice and welcoming, and parking was really easy -- always a plus. Since it was our first visit, we didn't really know what to expect, but we loved everything we ordered. We got the pork belly noodles, the pig ear, and the cold shredded potato. The noodles were super bouncy, the broth was flavorful without being too heavy, and the pork belly had just the right bite. Both cold appetizers were great as well, refreshing, well seasoned, and nicely balanced. They have some dishes that they call numbing and wow are those spicy - they should call them 4 alarm. They're hot but not like the most spicy. We also had some dim sum which was good too. The staff are pretty friendly and attentive- they are honestly happy to help you with anything. The restaurant has a very modern feel, and is incredibly spacious. I think this restaurant would be a pretty ideal spot for groups- their portion sizes are pretty generous and they're pretty accommodating with seating. * Keep in mind that ordering is through a QR code. It's very easy to use, though you're not able to pay online at the end of your meal- you'll need to have a staff member check you out. OKAY THE FOOD: * Lychee Jasmine Green Tea - I love that they offer different flavors for tea. Though you can't adjust the sweetness levels, it's pretty tasty and has a strong jasmine flavor. * Braised beef noodle soup- we had gotten this with knife cut noodles, and oh my goodness.. this was not heavy AT ALL. It was tasty, the beef fell apart easily and the noodles were so chewy! I would get it again next time I visit haha * salt and pepper pork - my FAVORITE dish out of the 8 dishes we ordered. It was flavorful, but not overpowering and still moist. 20/10 would recommend for those who enjoy this dish *Sliced beef and cucumber salad - Though I enjoyed this dish, it was pretty heavy in seasoning. We absolutely love coming to Highland Noodles! When you sit down you order using a QR code on your phone. Once you order your food comes right to your table piping hot! The noodles are so bouncy, delicious and full of flavor. Their cucumber salad is suer crisp and refreshing.
