I find Hong Kong cafe type of foods so comforting, so when I heard of this place, I had to try it. I was worried there would be a long line, so I got here at 5pm on a Friday (when they open), and was the 3rd one seated. It didn't seem too busy at first, but an hour later, there were a bunch of people in line outside. I mistakenly ordered the baked meat sauce spaghetti with cheese instead of the baked pork chop spaghetti, but it was still pretty. I will need to come back to try the pork chop. My favorite dishes were the salted egg chicken wings and salted egg pineapple buns (without pork floss). Came here on a Friday night at 8pm. Parking was hard to find and had to park on the street. There were people lining outside and about 3 parties were waiting. But since we had a party of 2, we were seated right away! We ordered through the QR code online. Food came quickly. Milk tea was most authentic in this meal. We ordered the pork katsu omurice curry, the beef spaghetti (it is on the sweeter end), pork floss pineapple buns and the phenomenal dessert toast. Never had anything like the toast- it's sooo delish and sweet! On weekends and during dinner time it gets SUPER crowded and the wait is insane so definitely make sure to plan it out before you eat here. Inside has lots of tables and was nicely decorated with a light green theme. The food came relatively fast, we ordered with the QR code by the side of our table. The food, however, was just fine. It's hard to believe that this location used to house the institution that was Pepper Lunch but the remodel looks beautiful! The inside is beautiful and organized in a way where it doesn't feel crowded. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We came with a party of 5 a bit earlier around 6pm and had no problem getting in, but the line formed behind us. I have nothing bad to say about the food besides the fact that it was just okay. Uncle's Omurice (although beautifully presented) was lacking in flavor and the tonkatsu pieces were good but a little tough. Dessert was pleasantly surprising. A cute duck sat upon a bed of double skim milk pudding. Refreshing, not too sweet, and the marshmallow duck was delicious too. I sampled a variety of dishes from the table and concluded I might try something different next time. The noodles were quite flavorful and aromatic! I stopped by here on Memorial Day seven minutes before doors opened and happened to time the line right before it grew five times in size. If you're not seated in first seating, you'll definitely be waiting a few hours to get your food. Between our party, we shared a bunch of different items. Although social media has been hyping up Uncle Cha non-stop, the food fell short on multiple fronts. The item I was personally most excited about trying was the pineapple bun with pork and chicken cutlet. Like another reviewer pointed out, many in my party did not enjoy the texture of the pineapple bun. The expectation was that the pineapple bun would be soft and fluffy but it was far too crispy, and tasted almost a bit too dry, or possibly stale. The meat inside was cooked well, and I liked the honey mustard in one of the buns, but the bun itself was a miss. For the sizzling pepper beef over spaghetti, the dish was too salty, had too much cornstarch added, and was not peppery enough. With the unagi plate with tornado egg, the egg was silky, glistening, and very pretty to look at atop of the mount of rice, but there was simply not enough of it. The unagi was fine, but tasted no different than the ones you pick-up next door from the freezer section at Ranch 99 and re-heat in an oven. Lastly, for the baked pork chop, there was not enough tomato flavor in the sauce. While service was quick, attentive and efficient, the food here was honestly a bit mid and is not worth waiting hours in line for. Don't trust everything you see on social media. read more

Finally checked out Uncle Cha Fusion Cafe! I've been seeing all the hype online and hearing about the crazy lines, so I had to see what it was all about. The menu has a lot of fun, unique HK cafe-style dishes. For my own meal, the standouts were definitely the baked pork chop rice and the HK toast (the milk puff). The baked rice hit the perfect comfort food spot, and the toast was delicious. However, I also tried the pineapple bun with salted egg yolk and pork floss, and it was unfortunately pretty dry. I'd probably skip that one next time. Overall, it's a really solid spot with great flavors! That said, while the food is good, I personally wouldn't wait longer than an hour to eat here. Now I know why this place is so popular! Luckily we didn't have to wait too long as we came near the end of lunch service. There's a yelp waitlist and when you get to the table - you order with your phone. Very easy peasy... We started off with drinks. Middle got the Grass Jelly Mega Ball Milk Tea that she LOVED and yes - they were MEGA Grass Jelly balls. Milk tea was milk tea but the grass jelly balls really provided the extra unique flavor! Also they have a lot of chicken so it's pretty filling - but MAN the chicken was SO tender! We also got the Chicken and Pork Cutlet Pineapple Buns. Their pineapple bun had a nice crunchy top - a great vehicle for the thick juicy chicken and very flavorful pork cutlet. We also got the Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken Wings. I LOVE anything salted egg and unfortunately this one didn't crisp up so it was really a crispy fried chicken wing. And the salted egg yolk was a bit muted. I typically love the salted egg yolk fried pumpkin at XLB and was thinking something like that but on chicken but unfortunately it was good but not a wow! We also got the Uncle Omurice with Unagi. I think next time we will order the Ultimate Cheesy Tamago Bowl with Eel & Beef. We saw another table order that and it looked amazing. Always a line, to cut corners, I tried DoorDash. But even when the order was placed in at 11:30, we waited till 1pm to get our food. So be warned! The food came nicely packaged! The drink sealed in tape and placed in a nice paper bag, the food was in a plastic bowl and the whole order was placed inside a plastic bag. We placed a group order but each of our order was clearly labeled with our name and items typed on tickets. We don't have to find our items from a massive amount of food like other vendors, which I'm happy with the convenience. I ordered a French Lemon Latte, it's ok. When I got the order, the brown coffee was floating at the top and the bottom was cream white. But once I poked the straw in, the white cream floats up and the drink looks murky. There's one piece of lemon at the bottom of the cup, so not very strong lemon flavor. Onto the food, the Ultimate Cheesy Tamago Bowl with Eel & Beef that I ordered was very good. Each element is neatly layered on top of each other, the take out did not mess it up. At the bottom is the white rice, then on top of the rice there are the sliced beef with sliced onions soaking in the teriyaki sauce. The second to top layer is a brick of Japanese style tomago egg and a thin layer of cheese. Lastly, there's a piece of teriyaki eel on the very top sealing off the bowl. The portion was sumptuous, and the teriyaki sauce carries the dish through. On the menu there are many other interesting items that I want to try, perhaps next time I can try their pineapple bun sandwich or the baked rice. read more

Uncle Cha is located in a plaza with many other restaurants and shops, depending on when you go parking can fill up quickly. The inside is bright and clean with ample space. The service was very quick as you just scan a QR code and order through your phone. The staff comes around often to make sure your water is filled. The unagi was not too salty and very tender with great flavor. The house special satay beef noodle was very good the satay paired well with the broth. Typical cha cha tang. There was nothing super special about the food options. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Long wait even for a Thursday afternoon. Not great for large crowds. But i did notice that after the lunch rush around 2pm the crowd thinned out. Everything tasted fine but nothing like as like amazingly good. Really good spot for Hong Kong cafe food but gets busy real fast! We got there a few minutes before opening and once they opened all the tables were already full with a waitlist outside. The baked chicken with white sauce and baked pork chop with red sauce were really good and flavorful! The ratio of protein to carb was good as well. The grilled eel, egg, and beef, was kind of a lot for a bowl but somehow worked together and was cohesive. The milk tea was tasty and not too sweet. I soooo wanted to love this place, but I think the overhype on social media plus the neverending lines set the bar too high. I was hoping for a solid Hong Kong-style cafe, but the fusion part of Uncle Cha made everything a little confusing. The ambiance and service is amazing. Clean, bright, green, aesthetic. There aren't too many tables inside, and the tables are pretty close together in an effort to get more people in. There are a lot of workers always on standby to check in and make sure that you have everything you need. The food is where it fell a bit short. We ordered a variety of things, from the pineapple buns to the baked rice to rice rolls to Singapore-style curry noodles. While the food presentation was great, the taste didn't hit the same as other HK-style cafes. It wasn't terrible, but it also didn't stand out. The pineapple buns were the most disappointing -- crispy and crunchy rather than fluffy and flaky. The drinks, however, were pretty solid. Hong Kong-style milk tea was great, and the pistachio cream coconut water was a great balance of refreshing and rich. I think we're willing to give it another try if there isn't a wait. But waiting more than 40 minutes for mediocre food? Not the vibe, especially when the plaza is packed with other restaurants. read more

​Uncle Cha fills a major gap in the South Bay restaurant food scene! It's a unique fusion spot with a very cool Chinese diner vibe that stands out in a sea of traditional Taiwanese and Chinese restaurants. ​The sizzling chicken burgers were a blast to eat, and the baked rice dishes were consistently delicious. Tried this place out for weekend dinner as it always had a lot of attention and long queues - 8 parties ahead was about a 40 minute wait but nice that you can check in at the kiosk and see your place in queue from your phone in real time. I tried their pork chop rice with tomato sauce, milk puff, and the milk tea with large boba-shaped grass jelly. While all the food was unique and well-presented, nothing stood out to me flavor-wise, just okay. Pork chop was overpowered by the tomato flavor, milk puff felt like a glorified toast rather than tasty dessert, milk tea was subpar to the tea places in the plaza. Great ambiance and visuals but food failed to impress me and did not justify such a long wait for. read more
