D-D is known as a more "Contemporary" take on not just Viet Cuisine, but pan-asian cuisine; their menus include lechon, ramen, and shaken beef --- in essence, there should be something for everybody here at restaurant! My table got 3 items --- let's go thru them quickly: 1) Appetizer - Bang Bang Shrimp: This dish began the meal right. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, quite large in size for an appetizer, and served with a nice tangy sauce. 2) Entree - Bone Marrow + Short Rib Fried Rice: This dish is perfectly portioned for lunch; it's not too big, nor too small. The most impressive part? Using your spoon --- and scooping out the bone marrow to mix into the short rib fried rice. This is decadent, but when will you ever do something like this again? Definitely try, and at least for me, maybe order it "spicy". I was missing a little bit of heat or acid to cut through the richness of the whole dish (that's why it's 4 stars); still a solid dish though. 3) Entree - My friend got the Soft Shell Crab Wrap, and she loved it. I came back to D-D Delight specifically for their Dino Rib Banh Mi because the first time I had it, it was incredible. It was a massive, tender rib sandwich with a large bone you had to pull out yourself, super soft meat that melted in your mouth, and a great dipping sauce. Easily worth the ~$25. Unfortunately, this visit was a completely different experience, maybe because it was later in the evening. When the sandwich came out, it looked nothing like what I had before. There was no bone at all, the meat seemed like a completely different cut, and it was dry and tough. The bread was also burnt and overly hard. I even asked the staff if this was the correct order, and they confirmed it was. When I asked the young man about the missing bone (like in the photo), I was told they "decided to take it out to make it easier to eat," which already felt off. The food itself confirmed it... this was not the same sandwich. To make things worse, a drink we ordered didn't arrive until we were already paying the bill. When I brought up the issue while paying, I was told the picture is "just for advertising and not real." That didn't make sense since I've personally had the sandwich before exactly as shown with the rib and bone. After pointing that out, the young girl's response was basically "I'll tell the kitchen," and that was the end of it. Between the inconsistent food quality, misleading presentation, and poor service, this was a very disappointing experience. TLDR: This is a very solid Viet fusion spot for the food, but was not a huge fan of the drinks. My friends did like their drinks, but personally, I don't like my drinks sweet and mine was still super sweet even though I asked for it to be less sweet. I have to be honest, we tend to order from DoorDash or our food to go when we eat at DD delight. So my review is based on those orders... we really love all of their desserts, but our favorites are their sweet Bangkok and smashed avocado. Pro tip, don't mix the smashed avocado dessert. Eat it slowly while scooping chunks of avocado with every bite. We could adjust your sugar levels on most of their desserts and their food is definitely fusion. Located in a small plaza, there is parking but it is shared with other stores in the plaza so I can understand why parking might be tough during peak hours and weekends. There's a lot to choose from on the food menu, let alone their drink menu is a whole page in itself. Order and pay using the QR code or you can order with a server. We went with one of their top rated drinks - the peach calamansi sparkling. It's gorgeous in its layers from the butterfly pea tea to the peach marmalade at the bottom. It's refreshing, not too sweet, and tastes natural! Great peach flavor coming through from the marmalade. I chose the shaken tofu rice plate. The tofu pieces did seem a little squished as if they lost some volume but it might be the tofu they use and how it's fried. The flavor was so delicious - strong and fragrant. The tomato rice cuts some of that flavor bomb back as it's more lightly seasoned and then the greens with pickled onions helps to round things out. The picanha sizzling steak comes with warm bread on the side to soak up all the sizzling juices and pate. Eggs, steak, fries, mushrooms - really what more could you want? The picanha was tender and slightly pink. Service was friendly and efficient. Clean and bright interior. I'd definitely return again! The steak was good with what looked like a creamier chimichurri, but the portion was on the smaller side. Also, it seems like some of the descriptions on the menu aren't followed to the T. The egg wasn't sunny side up and there was only one when the menu uses a plural. It was still good though. My husband got what we thought was a Vietnamese coffee, but based on the receipt it was just an espresso (H11). It was still very tasty, and the tiramisu cream with the lady finger was a nice touch (definitely dip it into the drink). The matcha French toast was so fluffy that it took no effort to cut with a fork, and I liked how the salted cream was on the side so we could control the ratios. All four of us got something different: shaken beef with tomato rice, shaken beef with dry ramen, bone marrow subbed with dry ramen and the colossal Dino banh mi French dip. Every dish had a uniqueness and had flavors popping in its own way. I love that every dish had a dip or sauce that compliments the entree beautifully. The shaken beef was my favorite. It was melt-in-your-mouth tender, peppery and had a nice char to it. They also have al fresco dining which is a plus so we can bring our pup with us. First impressions, the inside is bright and happily decorated. There are many tables for various-sized groups (4-7 seats), plus an outdoor seating area. The music is a bit loud for background ambience. Thus people tend to speak more loudly than usual just to be heard. The menu is extensive, as is the drink and blended drink menu. As we were not really all that hungry, we ordered a Lechon Lettuce Wrap and a set of three Beef Cheek Birria Street Tacos, which we both shared - plenty of food for the two of us! The fresh vermicelli, cucumber, lettuce, mint, chili and various pickled veggies really complimented the tasty, but greasy beef birria tacos (especially if you spoon some supplies au jus to add extra flavor!). The lechon was perfection, extra crispy fat and tender meat - wonderful! The tacos were filled to capacity with meat and cheese (really gooey goodness!) And lastly, well after we finished eating, our Pandan Waffle arrived. Well-made and coming with a spoonful of coconut ice cream and a small container of what tasted like a mocha or some esspresso foam (I think it is what comes on top of a Vietnamese coffee - very strong and delicious, BUT, it totally did not go well with the waffle, in my opinion. This was a wonderful experience for us, especially since we came about 90 minutes before closing and we were able to sit inside. This was our second time visiting DD Delights. The first time was when they first opened. Boy have they grown as a business and couldn't be more happier! I'm glad we gave it another try. These 3 dishes were split between 5 people. What is not pictured were our dessert drinks. The portions are huge and all the food taste pretty rich. I suggest splitting the dishes with whoever you're dining with because everything we got tasted so yummy! We were pretty overwhelmed at what to order so we tried to order one thing from different categories. The shaken beef plate seemed pretty popular. The chef did great job at balancing all the savory, sweet, spicy and touch of the dressing for the salad was all so perfect. The Saigon cheesesteak was huge! Can split this honestly between 3-4 people (eaten with all the other dishes). Love that this place is also kid friendly. The customer service was very welcoming, treating you like family when you first walk in. DD Delight has slowly turned into into one of my go-to "modern" Vietnamese brunch spots. The menu is huge and I'm sure that there is something for everyone here Food: When I'm feeling something more indulgent, my go-to dish is the bò né. The steak is tender (not crazy melt in your mouth but still soft), the gravy is rich, the eggs are runny and soak up all of the broth, the pate is classic, the bread is the perfect Viet roll (super fluffy on the inside but light and crispy on the outside), and I love the pickled onions as garnish. I will say that it seems like the portion of steak has gotten a bit smaller since the first two times I came, but overall for what you're paying I still think it is reasonable. When I'm looking for something more home-y and less indulgent, I opt for the xôi bò lúc lắc. Similarly to the bò né, the beef is pretty tender. It also comes with pate, egg, and pickled onions to cut through the richness. The sticky rice is always cooked perfectly and reminds me of my mom's cooking. The lechon dry ramen was interesting. The lechon pieces are super thick and have a very thin crispy skin (not like Chinese bbq pork belly). The meat itself isnt really juicy but it's not that dry. The noodles themselves get mixed with a lightly salted sauce that with the egg yolk turns it into a really creamy and light sauce. I think the intention is for the lechon to do most of the heavy lifting. I did really like the noodle texture though. Service/Space: the restaurant is very cute. Asian fusion at its best. A lot of the menu is atypical so definitely take a look before you come. The food is is very instagrammable which is usually not a good thing but this place is an exception. Pros - The Picanha Steak Sizzling Plate was great. I could tell the meat was cooked sous vide style but nothing wrong with that. The variety of items on the sizzling plate is wonderful and if I come back this is what I'd order - The Dino Rib Banh Mi Steak is exactly as advertised and tastes how it looks. Short rib in a banh mi with a consomme on the side. Some of the best food that I've had in San Jose! I've been hunting for a good beef rib or Dino rib sandwich of some sort and this place did not disappoint. For an amazing price of only $22. I got this huge sandwich that tasted amazing with the chimichurri sauce. The service was quick. The staff was very nice and they answered all the questions that we had about dietary restrictions. The drinks were on another level with how extravagant they are! I wanted to order all of them. The restaurant was small but a very good vibe, and it was very nice how fast the service was. Finally tried D-D-Delight after seeing it often on Hostetter Rd. Came on a Saturday around 11:30am and was seated right away. The restaurant is located in a small plaza with a parking lot. There were parking spots available but I can imagine parking becoming more difficult at a busier time. The interior has a modern feel, bright and aesthetic, and the menu has a wide range of Asian fusion dishes. What I ordered: Shaken Beef Sticky Rice - Beef was tender and flavorful, and the sticky rice paired well with the pickled onions and pâté. A tasty twist on the Vietnamese classic. 5/5. Service was friendly, though a bit slow at times due to pickup orders. D-D-Delights offers catering as a lot of people were stopping in for pick up.
