I love this place! I've been here many times and is one of my go to spots when I'm craving ramen. My recent favorite dish is the Niku spicy ramen. This is your traditional ramen with a broth. When I want to eat ramen, this is exactly what I imagine a bowl of ramen looking like. The spice is perfect and the broth is so flavorful. The only issue is you can't really drink the broth after you finish the noodles because it is a bit spicy and salty too. The noodles are the perfect consistency and the fixings are also so good such as the egg and the seaweed. Went here for an early birthday dinner with my family. They accommodated our walk-in large group of 10 around 7pm very quickly as it was not too busy on a Wednesday. The waitress was conversational and was very kind to explain the menu to us twice because the other half of the table couldn't hear LOL. We got their appetizers of chicken karage and tofu. The chicken batter was flavorful but the meat could've been more marinated. The tofu had anchovies on it and added rich flavor! Got the Tokusei Tsukemen as the entree and takoyaki as an appetizer. Both were incredible! To start off with the Tsukemen is what they specialize in, the thick noodle was chewy and the soup clung onto the noodle perfectly. The two different pork slices were extremely tender and the egg was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The broth was wonderful as well, as it was tasty and not too salty. Adding chili powder to it made it perfect! As for the takoyaki, it was topped with what I believe was egg salad which is not something I have seen before but was incredible! The takoyaki itself was cooked well and there were good pieces of octopus inside and the egg salad was also delicious even on its own! Get on the Yelp waitlist before you arrive! I am always craving ramen and I was not sure how this one didn't hit my radar for so long. Decor is nice and clean. Lot of the natural wood color which seems to be the contemporary choice of decor these days. We got all our usual favorites.. Tori chintan ramen- 4.5/5- very light and refreshing broth. Not a great depth of flavor but whatever it had was sufficient for me. Chicken seemed to be roasted and was beautifully cooked without any funky taste or smell. This is easily the best version of chicken I had among all the chicken ramen bowls I had so far. Came with an egg which had a wonderful jammy center. Toppings were onions and a roasted slice of tomato. Seemed unconventional for me but delicious nonetheless. Chicken karaage-2.5/5- weakest chicken karaage I had in a Japanese restaurant, the batter was clumped in places and weakly hung onto the meat. The meat was suspiciously undercooked. Kids curry chicken plate-3.5/5- wonderful curry. This came with some sticky rice and the same chicken karaage. The rice and curry combo was delectable, the karaage weakened the dish. Niki spicy ramen- 4.5/5- my husband got this one and he enjoyed it. He commented it was one of the better ramen bowls he had in a while though not the very best. I must admit I'm not really a dipping noodles gal but then this changed my mind! My other experiences with dipping ramen has been too too salty. Here I asked if I could adjust the saltiness and they were able to make it less salty and it was PERFECT! The noodles were super bouncy. Then at the end they added broth to it and it was so tasty! Wanted to try some place new before going to the Great Mall and this spot happened to have a kids meal. Unfortunately my toddler was not that hungry so I cannot give her perspective. While the kids still got a classic ramen, we adults went adventurous with soup-less ramen. Food (4 stars) + Mazesoba soup-less ramen was good but not as impressive as their other soup-less option. The egg that you mix in upon arrival gave it a carbonara vibe, and the chashu was tasty. There were lots of bamboo shoots that I originally thought were mushrooms. The sauce/seasoning of the ramen has a bit fishy flavor, which my wife didn't love, but still pretty good. My friends and I stopped by Taishoken on a Saturday around 12:30 p.m. for lunch and the restaurant was surprisingly empty. Our party of four was able to get seated right away. Although Taishoken is known for their tsukemen, I'll always opt for mazesoba if I see it on a menu. The mazesoba here is easily some of the best I've had in the Bay Area. The included piece of chashu is well-seasoned, fall apart tender and had a good balance of lean to fatty meat. The noodles are cooked to perfection and have a really nice chew to them. There is just the right amount of sauce in the dish, and the raw egg yolk adds a wonderful richness that coats each strand of noodle when mixed. Included with your mazesoba is a small side of vinegar. I would definitely recommend trying out the mixed mazesoba on its own -- without the vinegar, and adding in the vinegar about half-way in in order to try out a completely different flavor profile of the noodles. The acidity of the vinegar cuts through the richness and keeps you coming back for bite after bite. If you've never tried mazesoba before, I can't recommend it enough at Taishoken. I can't wait to stop by again for another bowl. read more

Very relaxed atmosphere with a pretty clean interior. Notably different from a lot of other places, they serve buckwheat noodles for their tsukemen. Quite fragrant and solid chew. Heavenly pork, supremely soft and melts in your mouth. Broth served piping hot as it should. Very rich yet well balanced, leaning heavily on dashi/seafood aroma for their broth. I'm quite the fan! Aburasoba is also really good, punchy flavor with lot of depth. My brother is hard to please and he's also quite excited about this place (there aren't many that do aburasoba well either). Very solid Tsukemen. I went here recently with my two homies for the first time. All of us went to Japan a year ago and there was this one place with Tsukemen Ramen at Tokyo Station. It was the best ramen I've ever had in my life. Ever since that day Ive wanted to try other places that do that same style thats why all of us ended up at Taishoken. I'm assuming the price is because of the noodle, which has very nice texture and is done well. I usually get the most popular item, the Tokusei Tsukemen (which is good) but I tried their Duck Tsukemen. It came with 4 pieces of duck that were soft but kind of hard to tear apart.
