First timing trying this Korean restaurant and food quality is amazing. I got the tofu soup with beef and my friend got the sulongtang. Tofu soup is flavorful and sulongtang is a very good choice for comfort food. Plenty of seating, very relaxing, friendly server. Will for sure return

I would say out of all the Korean restaurants in the area, this one really stood out to me. Pricing, food quality, taste, service. All these combined have made this restaurant my new favorite in the bay. The spicy cold noodle was the best cold noodle I've had in the bay. The spicy pork was also thinly sliced and has so much good flavor to it. The sollemtang was fragrant, rich, and just very authentic. The best part?? It wasn't that expensive at all. They have this combo which is 1 cold noodle dish (spicy/non spicy) and 1 meat dish for just $40! And it was well enough to feed the both of us. We added the soup which was only $18. The banchan was also amazing. The glass noodle, kimchi all taste super fresh. The best part? They have spicy raw marinated crab for banchan!!! They even offer soy marinated crab starting at $30!!! I didn't check how many there is for one serving but I will definitely try that next time ago. The auntie who served us was very very nice too. She kept asking whether we needed more side dishes and proactively helped us with everything. This place is underrated!! We went on a Thursday night at 7 and it was completely empty. 10/10 and would definitely go again!!

My brother and I had lunch with our mom at Hanmaru Korean Cuisine, which is located in the City Square Center with Lion Market. It takes over where Jeonju used to be. It's closer to TP Tea, Yuan Bistro, McDonald's, etc. The parking is decent. Nice decor, simple and quiet ambience. Order via the table kiosk on each table. The service was sweet and super friendly. The lunch banchan was mostly the spicy kimchi dishes like the radish, cabbage, and mung bean sprouts. The marinated raw crab was good! Seafood Pancake: Savory pancake with mixed seafood, scallions, and vegetables, creating a harmonious blend of textures and flavors (4/5). Full of seafood, thought I wish it was crispy or crisper than it was. Japchae: Stir-fried glass noodles with beef and mixed vegetables in a light soy-sesame sauce - savory, slightly sweet, and delicious (3.5/5) Marinated Boneless Short Rib: Tender marinated boneless short ribs, garnished with sesame seeds and fresh green onions, served on a bed of sliced onions (3.5/5). Flavorful though a bit tougher than expected. I like galbi with the bone-in with the marbling better. But if you don't like to deal with the bones, then this is the choice. They have a pretty decent menu selection. We'll have to come back to try some other dishes. Support your local business.

No side dishes? Is this normal?

The crab was great, though they did not remove the gills and I was shocked to not have any side dishes.

Loved everything about this new restaurant. The food came out super fast and everything was so tasty. Great portions for what we ordered. The service was so nice! Great clean place.

Cold Noodles ($39.95 combo with galbi)

I have mixed feelings about this place. There were things I liked but also several things I really disliked. I'd say 3.5/5 overall, they definitely have things to improve on. Upon entry, the restaurant had a strong bathroom-like smell which was a bit off putting since the space is relatively new and clean. The biggest issue I had is that they forgot important pieces to the dishes I ordered for dining in and taking out. I ordered beef tofu soup, but the beef was completely forgotten in the order even though it was paid extra for on the receipt. And, the cold noodles were barely cold as they did not add ice, which is almost always in that dish. Lastly, I had asked for the takeout items to be separate from the dine-in tab but even that wasn't followed through with. On the other hand, I was pleased at how spicy raw marinated crabs were in the banchan though very small pieces at that, but they were good. And the rices were served in pots that crisped up the bottom! The quality is definitely there but the execution could be improved to really have it shine. RECS: + Brisket seolleongtang ($18.95) tasted comforting and light, I have had better but this hit the spot! I wish it was more beefy + Tofu soup ($19.95 but... beef was forgotten) had good flavor but again, quite sad beef was not put in. Spicy was not very spicy PASS: + Cold noodles and galbi combo ($39.95) was a hit/miss. The cold noodles were tasty and not too tangy which I liked, but they weren't cold! Galbi was lacking flavor and quite dry + Japchae ($14.95) ordered as takeout was nothing special, could definitely use more sesame oil and sauces for flavor

Oh the side dishes here are all so fresh and good. They even give spicy raw Marinated crab here :o I def plan to come back to try their soy marinated crab. Tofu soup was very tasty (a bit salty) but delicious nonetheless. Will be back!!

Seafood pancake
Kreesha E.

Get the seafood pancake and the tofu soup! We got the seafood tofu soup- love that it was boiling when it came out. It already had an egg in it so you didn't have to crack the egg yourself it was already cooking. Seafood pancake was not dry or too thin. To my surprise the little dishes came with the raw marinated crabs, what a good little treat. You get what you pay for- quality food, tasty food.

Kim Chee spread
Art L.

4.5 stars rounded down to 4 Non assuming type of interior with chairs & tables from previous restaurant owner. Service is ok but friendly. Took several tries to get more water or extra napkins. The 2nd set of Kim Chee spread came without incident... a plus. As for the food, it's above average in taste but ingredients are of higher quality than most Korean restaurants. They use pork belly meat for spicy pork. Their Kim Chee spread is definitely the higher quality ones that one would get from high end Korean restaurants. The raw crab is a pleasant surprise. The bulgogi beef is also a higher quality beef that is slightly marinated & done well. Overall, the tastes although good but slightly milder in tastes. If you like that, it's perfect! The spicy scale is definitely on the low end scale. Wonder if one can order a dialed up version. It's a new find in the neighborhood; definitely will come back to try tofu or galbi type of dishes.

I'm excited to see more Korean cuisine open up in Milpitas! Hanmaru is located in a large plaza with other stores and restaurants. Large parking lot, but beware that this plaza does get busy on the weekends. The interior is clean and well spaced out. Ordering tablets are on each table for easy ordering. Water is given by a jug so you can pour water for yourself. I appreciated that they gave a good amount of banchan (side dishes) and because they're in grand opening, they also gave raw marinated crab as a side dish. There were all three types of kimchi (cabbage, radish, and cucumber), japchae, and a pickled radish/pepper side dish. I found all of them to be pretty good. I ordered the tofu soup mild. You have the option to add an egg. It came out bubbling. The flavor was good with pretty decent chunks of beef inside. The chive pancake is shareable and had a great amount of chives in it. I did feel it could be just a tad saltier as it was on the edge of not having enough seasoning. Also ordered the brisket seolongtang which was milky and delicious. Perfect for the colder weather as it warms you right up! The ladies who work here were very friendly and wanted to make sure we were having a good experience, even at the last hour of their workday. Overall, satisfied with the meal and would return!

Yukhoe: Korean Beef Tartare ($28.95)
Cherylynn N.

Yangnyeom Gejang (spicy raw crab) Banchan? Complimentary Sot Bap (pot rice)? Considering a certain place *cough cough*: Olhso House (San Mateo) charges $10 for the sot bap alone... Hanmaru is worth the drive to Smelpitas! No shade but this city is known for its "distinctive" smell and at least I know my senses still work. Opening last week, Hanmaru is the latest Korean resto to open in Milpitas. Open for takeout, delivery, and indoor dining. M E N U Traditional Korean Cuisine: Apps, soups, bbq, galbijjim, hot pot, cold noodles, and more. Lunch Specials (Monday-Friday, 11 am - 4 pm): Select items are $17.99. Liquor license pending? F O O D * Complimentary Banchan - Kimchi Cabbage - Kimchi Radish - Kimchi Cucumber - Japchae - Yangnyeom Gejang As someone that judges a Korean resto by their banchan, I found their banchan to be excellent quality. The veggies were fresh and crisp with a flavorful spicy tang. Not soggy and over-fermented. The japchae was warm and bouncy. And, the spicy raw crab...so good with fresh rice. * Yukhoe: Korean Beef Tartare ($25.95) Top-notch quality, rich savory slices of raw beef marinated in a delicious savory sweet and nutty marinade. The crispy Korean pear was a nice contrast to the soft tartare. * Bibim Naengmyeon: Spicy Cold Noodles ($18.95) Perfectly chewy and bouncy buckwheat noodles in an icy, spicy and tangy broth with half a boiled egg, crunchy cucumbers + Korean pears. Requested hot mustard for an even spicier kick. * Beef Tongue Seolleongtang ($18.95) - Served unseasoned. S+P is on each table. Milky, nourishing beef bone broth with meltingly tender beef tongue and round rice noodles. * LA Galbi: Korean Short Ribs ($35.95) The top pieces had a nice sear but I found the pieces underneath too wet and too fatty. Not bad but BBQ is probably not their strong suit? * Sot Bap: Pot Price (included with meal) Steaming hot, sticky short grain rice. Cooked very well (you don't get the crispy crust you get from dolsot tho). S E R V I C E Warm, hospitable owner and lone server (order on tableside tablet). The owner runs the BOH himself. Server checked in several times offering banchan refills. A M B I A N C E Casual and modern with 10 tables and K pop playing. P A R K I N G Easy parking in the plaza. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal at Hanmaru and would def return when in the Milpitas area again.

seollongtang, la galbi
Jocelyn S.

Solid seollongtang and LA galbi! The seollongtang was on the lighter side but still super flavorful. LA galbi was super tender and a good level of marinated. However I think the galbi portion was a little small for the cost. Glad there's a new spot for seollongtang and other nice homey Korean tangs. Very vibrant vibe inside and the staff is very friendly. You order on a tablet at the table. Food came out pretty fast. Each entree comes with a rice. I really love that their rice servings come in these individual pots that get kinda crusted on the bottom! The japchae banchan was a little dry. They have marinated crab banchan too! Not sure if it's just an opening thing or for forever. I want to like gamjang gejang so bad but I think it's just ok hahaha. Other banchan of kimchi and radishes were solid too. Curious to try their yukgaejang next time because that's my fave.

A fair amount of open parking in this plaza as it's near an asian market. Went for lunch on a weekday and it was fairly empty, but probably not for long as this place has a really good opening lunch menu. You order from a tablet which is nice since you don't feel rushed. They played some popular kpop in the background and had some sports game on. Food: Galbitang - A solid serving size with generous portions of meet for the lunch special. Wagyu with egg - I've never really had this at another korean restaurant. It wasn't mindblowing, but still good. Kinda exactly what you'd expect from beef with egg. Service: There was only one waitress attending everyone but she was very kind and on point! She checked up on me often, but not too often. Food came out at a good speed. The appetizers came out first and the soup came out a bit after. I would definitely come back.

You'll have to wait at least thirty minutes unless you get there extremely early. My party of nine was seated around 45 minutes after we first joined the waitlist. However, we were able to order our food ahead of time. The atmosphere of the restaurant was bustling and noisy, a super fun and casual spot. Our dishes arrived minutes after we sat down, which was impressive. There was also a variety of delicious side dishes, with various types of kimchi. The nine of us split two braised beef short rib dishes - and we were struggling to finish it all. The portion size is massive, which makes sense since it's a pretty penny. The meat was so tender, literally falling off the bone. There were a ton of potatoes, daikon, rice cake, and carrots as well. The entire dish was savory and delicious, pairing perfectly with rice. You can also specify your spice level. The medium spice was a fair amount of spice but not overpowering. I highly recommend getting the cheese on top, it provides a creamy contrast to the sharp flavors of the meat. I'm still thinking about the braised beef short rib - it was just that delicious!

The short ribs were incredibly tender, practically falling off the bone, and the sauce was rich, savory, and deeply flavorful. The banchan variety is actually really good, which is a highlight for me, though the kimchi isn't my favorite. My personal go-tos are the Korean jelly (muk muchim), broccoli, tomato, and macaroni salad. I'd honestly come back just for the banchan spread. That said, for the price, the main dishes are just okay. One big plus: they serve purple rice, which I always appreciate. Service has been very hit or miss. Sometimes they're friendly and accommodating, but my last visit really threw me off. We asked for a refill on the muk muchim, and our server said they were "sold out"... but then the table next to us was immediately served it. I'd honestly rather they just say no than give an excuse like that.. it left a bad impression and made the experience feel off. A few thoughts on the dishes: * Budae Jjigae - A bit bland for my taste, heavy on kimchi and light on meats like spam, sausage, and bacon. * Galbitang - Light yet flavorful, with 3 large rib bones that had a good amount of meat. Comes with glass noodles, rice cakes, and thin egg strips * Japchae - Not complimentary here (you have to order it), but it's actually pretty good. * Seafood tofu soup - Just okay, nothing too memorable. * Galbi - Flavorful and reliable--can't go wrong, especially with purple rice. * Mul Naengmyeon - Refreshing and well done. * Seafood pancake - Crispy, not overly oily, and packed with seafood and green onions. * Bibimbap - Loved the crispy rice at the bottom, though the beef portion was a bit small. * Yukgaejang - Decent, but not as rich or flavorful as other spots. Overall, I'd say this place shines most in its banchan variety and comfortable dining space, but the inconsistency in both food and service makes it a bit harder to fully recommend

Still no water for the table at this point, so we flagged someone carrying pitchers around to help us. Finally after some time after ordering we got our water. Very clean finish. Banchan 5/5: The highlight for me was the banchan. I went with a very picky eater friend and she really loved the kimchi ,the cucumber kimchi ,the fish cakes, japchae. They put a lot of effort into making the banchan - which I recognize right away. They also fill up if you run out and the dishes are larger than normal restaurants. Amazing. You read my mind. Interior 4/5: It is a smaller, more intimate seating.( about 25-30 people) . It still has the vibes of of a Korean eatery with K-pop music playing on the TV screen, wooden benches and chairs. You'll have to wait a bit if you go during peak hours and parking is a bit difficult. I suggest going within the first hour they open up when there's less crowds.

Small restaurant with a wait list up front but turn over was fast depending on your party, waited about ~25mins for 2 people. *This was for coming in for dinner on a Friday.* Ordered the Galbi and Budae Jjigae, side dishes came out before the mains, was soo hungry didn't take the pre pictures of the others, hehe anyways, both had great flavor and the budae jjigae had kick to it. In the end it kicked my cravings and made me full. Ohh and one more thing be aware of your check and make sure you're paying your table....the person working changed my card paid for another table, but he corrected it.

I ordered the bibimbap pork rice. When it was brought to me, the waitress told me they were out of the sauce so it was very bland. Also to know they were sold out of seafood, squid, and bulgogi bibimbap. Half of the menu items were not available. There were also only 2 Bachan dishes. Kimchi and broccoli. Very disappointed.

The first two times were great -- they served a wide variety of banchan and the seafood tofu soup was packed with fresh shrimp, clams, octopus, mussels, and squid. My daughter also loved the galbijjim. On our third visit, we arrived right at 5 PM and were told they would open shortly because the cook was on lunch. We waited until 5:20 and they still weren't serving, so we ended up leaving. Our most recent visit was the last straw. They only offered two types of banchan (not even kimchi), and they were out of all dishes that included meat or beef. It was surprising for a Korean restaurant to not have Korean BBQ or short ribs available. My seafood tofu soup barely had any seafood, and I had to point out to the waiter that there was no shrimp at all. He later returned with a cheap frozen seafood mix and said they use a seafood mix, which was disappointing considering the higher quality seafood they used to serve (including head-on shrimp). They also did not serve the usual purple rice this time -- instead we were given dry white rice that seemed reheated. There was only one server handling all the tables and cleaning, so service was slow. It's disappointing because the quality used to be much better. Based on our recent experiences, we will not be returning anytime soon.
