Seafood Pancake
Joanna T.

I've been coming here for 5+ years and it's still one of my go-to Korean BBQ spots because of the great prices and friendly service. It can get pretty busy during peak hours, so there may be a wait, but they're usually really good about fitting everyone in and keeping things moving. The meat is always good quality, and they give a ton of banchan with your meal. The staff is also super attentive. They'll come by to help cook the meat and check on your throughout the meal. The portions are very generous for the price, which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back. Great food, great value, and consistently good service every time.

2 portion Beef brisket

Got the special C combo for 5 adults and it filled us all. Comes with 4 meat choices - we chose 2 beef brisket, beef belly, and beef intestine. It also came with seafood pancake, kimchi fried rice, 2 steamed white rice, spicy cold noodles and tons of side dishes. The fish cake came out warm which was pleasantly nice since it usually comes out cold. The portions were generous and service is quick. Lots of seating and large space.

Brisket, Sides and Cheese Corn (Small Portion)

I came here with my partner to celebrate a birthday dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The reviews are very high, which honestly feels a bit misleading based on what we experienced. We ordered the 4-meat special for $126 and chose pork cheek, bulgogi, brisket, and galbi (which was an extra $9), bringing our total to $135 before tax. For that price, the portions were surprisingly small, especially the pork cheek and brisket.and the quality wasn't anything extraordinary. The bulgogi and galbi were good, but not enough to justify the overall cost. The galbi was definitely the highlight of the meal. Service was also lacking. We had to ask multiple times for radish because the portions they brought out were very small. When we asked for sauce refills, instead of letting us refill it ourselves, the server did it but put the sauces in the wrong compartments and only briefly apologized. It just felt disorganize and like the stuff was rushing everything with only 3-4 other parties in the store. There were also a few misses with our order. We ordered one plain rice and one kimchi fried rice, but the kimfried rice was forgotten, and we had to follow up to get it. We were given a very small portion of cheese corn as well, which didn't feel proportional to the price, you can even see how small it is in the photo. On a positive note, they did give us a complimentary egg puff soup, which was a nice gesture. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. Between the pricing, portion sizes, and service issues, it didn't meet expectations, and I don't think I would come back.

We freakin love tobannggg! The aunties totally take care of you and their prices are so reasonable. Ambiance is a bit hole in the wall but brings you to korea. I can say their food is so consistent. They will refill your banchans and take good care of you! Thank you Tobanggg!

Love their banchan, honestly a great selection. Very good bang for your buck honestly and great service. They gave us a free steamed egg on the house! Love this place

Pork Belly, Brisket

There are many great Korean restaurants within this plaza, and ToBang is one of them. On a weekday evening, this restaurant was almost completely full. My friend and I were able to get seating immediately, and I love how the menu is organized into different meal sets. We tried their Special-A set and got an additional soup (kimchi jjigae). The meats we tried were pork belly and brisket. Both the brisket and pork belly were sliced thin, and they were delicious when grilled! There was a variety of banchan, along with cheese corn and seafood pancake. The kimchi jjigae was spicy and hearty, completing our meal. We could have eaten less and taken some leftovers as the portion size was generous, but my friend and I ended up eating to our hearts' content.

Been coming to this place for years now, so this review is long overdue. I just went there with my spouse and a friend from out of town so this is my most up to date experience. Every time I come here I'm starving. I order a size down for the group I'm with (ie: if I'm with 3 ppl I order the set for 2) and we all leave stuffed with leftovers. Service is great, fast and attentive. Free bonchon refills make the meal more worthwhile. Cups and utensils are all metal, chopsticks are disposable. Meat is good quality and quantity for the price The sets include fewer items than they did back in the day but it's all good; I am still full when I leave. They have renovated the place with better fume hoods and they've expanded so I feel like the improvements in ambience compensate for the changes. We ordered the 1-2 ppl set, plus kalbi and an extra tofu soup. With tax it was $105. Came out to $35 a person. Very worthwhile I will be back, this place is open on Christmas on New years day fyi! Pics are post prandial, I am not great at grabbing pics beforehand. I will improve!

ToBang is a gem I had no expectations for. Picked this place on a whim for lunch and was disappointed to find that it wasn't AYCE. My surprise when it was better than I thought. Banchan here was out of this world! Everything was a slap of umami, from potatoes, radish, fish cakes, japchae, and seaweed. Table set up was magical and I can't talk enough about how good the banchan was. The sets we ordered also came with seafood pancakes and those hit the spot too! When the meat came we got straight to business. You get a few choices but I recommend getting the bulgogi. It comes to you already cooked so you don't have to deal with the wait while the meat cooks which we all know of all too well. Bulgogi was also amazing on a bed of onions on a hot plate. At the end, the also gave us some yakults for our gut health! I couldn't ask for a better lunch. The servers were also the kindest, I felt like family was serving me. Like I finally had my own ajumma. They were so quick with serving water and sides. They really cared about us and whether or not we were enjoying our meal. They were flying through the restaurant and their hardwork is very apparent. God bless you aunties!

Came here several times throughout the years, but giving a review for the most recent visit on the weekend. We had a party of 9 and called ahead to make reservations. When we arrived, our table was all set - place settings, sauces, cups, water. We ordered 2 of the Special-C. Everything tasted so good - the banchan, the meats, the steamed egg, the seafood pancake, the ramen, the kimchi fried rice, the galbi jjim, the tteokbokki. The food kept coming and coming. We had to keep making room on our table to fit everything. They cooked the meats right in front of us on the grill, and they were always so attentive! They kept coming back to refill our banchan without us needing to ask! They also were so generous and gave us an extra steamed egg on the house, and an extra ramen on the house too! Felt like royalty! Loved the hospitality and the special attention they gave us. They even gave us some kimchi fried rice to take home! So sweet!

This has always been our go-to KBBQ spot! On this latest visit, I especially appreciated the great customer service, speed of service, and quality of all the dishes! They revamped their menu sets to be more straightforward for first-timers, and I appreciate how they take your order before you sit down to ensure they keep things moving quickly. There is never a very long wait time, again due to how efficient they are with running the restaurant. Some of my favorite staples here are the spicy BBQ chicken (not too spicy for my weak self and packed full of flavor,) bulgogi, seafood pancake, and tofu soup. The portions are on the bigger side in my opinion, so if you're on the fence about getting that extra meat dish, I'd go without it and just order more if you still feel hungry. All in all a solid Bay Area KBBQ institution!

Combo 6! (Serving size for 6 people)

ToBang has been around for a while, and like many people, it's one of our go-to KBBQ spots in the area. It's not AYCE, but the meat quality is always solid. I'll admit, I didn't really understand the hype at first many years ago, but after trying other places nearby, I totally get it now. It's a no-frills, quick-in, quick-out kind of spot. They're super efficient -- there's almost always a line, but they keep things moving without it feeling rushed. You order by set type depending on the number of people, which makes it easy. The seafood pancake is delicious, and for meat, the brisket is our go-to which never disappoints. I love that they often give out little extras like corn cheese or mini tteokbokki alongside the banchan! There's always a wait on weekends, so make sure you go early enough so you don't have to wait too long.

Set B
Shilah A.

Great food for a good price. My party made a reservation 30 minutes in advance ahead on a Saturday lunch. Parking here is horrible though! Make sure to accommodate for that on a weekend. We ordered the set B which came with 3 meats from a selection. We opted for the beef belly, pork belly and for $9 extra, the galbi, which came cooked already. They refilled our side dishes and often checked up on us. Only concern I wanted to express was one of the servers seemed a little pushy/rushed us when ordering. Other servers were really nice and checked up on us a lot. Otherwise, food was good.

Tiara N.

4.5 stars for food 5 stars for service These women working here work SO hard and it doesn't go unnoticed. They're running around making sure the waitlist moves quickly, refilling up our banchans and waters, and constantly checking in on us. The KBBQ is so so tasty, and the service is just impeccable. This is my go-to KBBQ spot. I always get the Special-C and get Bulgogi, Brisket, and Pork Belly, and I always leave feeling so full! Parking can be tough since it's a busy parking lot.

Ask the Community - ToBang

Is this AYCE?

No. You order by different sets a la carte.

Did this place change owner after COVID? Quite a few things have changed. I didn't see the original owner at the store anymore. She used to be in the store almost every day.

Hi. I am Kim,who take care of Tobang for 18 years. CB I have kids, so I work for Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Thank you

How do you eat the steamed egg?

Mouth

Are there any vegetarian options there?

You can view their menu. A few dishes like the glass noodles Japchae, tofu soups and possibly Kim chi fried rice could work. It’s a Korean BBQ place so meats are plentiful. Japchae, tofu soup is a good start. I believe we were served a starter salad…

Is it all you can eat if you eat at the restaurant?

No.

Do you have any vegetarian options or anything that can be made vegetarian?

Laugh out loud

Are most of the meat options and sauces gluten free? I have a gluten free friend and I'd like to make sure we'd be able to discern which menu options had no gluten.

Sorry, but no. We don’t use gluten free ingredients. I can’t really tell you which menu items are gluten free. Thanks and I hope this helps.

Do they use MSG? My mom is allergic but would like to eat here.

No we do not buy MSG and put it in our food. But some of our soup dishes may have MSG because we do put in beef and seafood base powder in the the soup.

Are you open on thanksgiving?

We are open thanksgiving day from 4pm to 9 pm

For take out, is the meat already cooked or does customer need to cook at home?

All BBQ marinated meats (Kalbi, BulGoGi, bbq chicken, spicy chicken, and spicy pork) are cooked. All plain meats (Brisket, Pork Belly and Beef belly), are raw and you need to cook at home.

How is outdoor seating experience like? is it the same as dining inside before pandemic?

There is no cooking at the table for outdoor dining. We cook the meat inside and bring it out to you. As of last week, we do have indoor dining for groups of four or less. Best to make reservations for indoor and outdoor dining.

Can you please describe your curbside pickup process? Also, can I pay over the phone? If at all possible, I want to minimize contact and remain outdoors.

You can order online at www.tobangsc.com. Click the TakeOut Orders tab. This will take you to an online ordering page. Place your order and at checkout you can request for curbside pickup. When you come to pickup your food, just park in the front…

Are you still open for pick up or delivery? Is your business the same?

Sorry but no Togo food. We will be closed until the county of Santa Clara lifts the shelter in place ordinance. We hope to open soon and thank you for you support.

Thank you, but still doesn't work for some reason. Basically we would like to reserve a table for 6 adults and one baby tomorrow at 5 pm. Is that okay?

We do not take reservations on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can go to yelp and get on the wait list but everyone in the party must be present to be seated. Reservations are only taken Monday to Thursday and you can also make reservations…

Is there another number I can call?call The one listed doesn't work.

Hi Huizhong Tobang’s phone number is 408-615-7540. The best time to call is after 4:30pm.

How hot and spicy is the food?

Everything is medium spicy unless stated or requested! Thank you!

Does ToBang apply the automatic 17% tip on the pre-tax or post-tax bill?

Tips should be added on pre tax component. Not on post tax.

It feels just like a warm hug in a bowl! Their cold noodles, both spicy and non-spicy versions, are refreshing and perfect for cooling down summer heat. We also almost always order the mo deum soo yook for extra protein. It's a combination plate with boiled beef brisket, tail, and tendons. You will have to season them yourself with salt and pepper, but beef is always so soft and tender. I highly recommend ordering this only if you're dining with a group of 3 or more because the portion is huge! After finishing your meal, they'll serve you a yakult, super yummy and great for digestion (super thoughtful of them) They're busy and almost always have a waitlist, especially during peak dinner hours. I got the galbi tang and they gave a good amount of beef! I was able to take home for a second meal :) i also love their kimchi. maybe around 10 minutes after we got our soup, we had asked for refills on the sides. when we got the refills, we also got our bill. we were no where close to being done eating and the servers would constantly check our table to see if we're done or needed boxes. while we were boxing our leftovers, the server aggressively took our soups (half way in the air trying to pour it) from us and packed it herself. my friend was trying to get the bone out first but the server was just awfully impatient. The whole dine-in experience felt very uncomfortable, especially since we were still actively eating.

The star of the show was definitely the meat. After trying nearly every Korean BBQ spot in Santa Clara, I can confidently say Chungdam has the best quality in the area. The difference in flavor and texture of the beef is immediately noticeable. It was tender, well-marbled, and full of rich taste. The banchan were outstanding too, especially the raw crab (my absolute favorite). We also loved the steamed egg, japchae, and bibimbap which were all delicious and perfectly executed. Despite only receiving two of the three items in our combo over the span of our two hours, they still charged us the full $73 for the combo. Additionally, they kept bringing out the wrong items and also brought out things twice when we had already received it. Food overall was undeniably bad for how it was priced. The quality of the pork in the katsu was extremely tough and stringy, not to mention how it was absolutely drowned in sauce. Kimchi fried rice was wet, as it was drowned in sauce and oil, barely fried. Chicken wings were also drenched in oil and sauce, and it was soggy, rubbery, and overall terrible. In conclusion, don't waste your time or money here. This was my second time at this establishment, and both times were atrocious.
