Wow, what a fantastic find! My family and I stopped by Chungdam on a whim tonight, and we couldn't be happier we did. From the moment we walked in, everything was exceptional. Even without a reservation, we were warmly greeted and quickly added to the waitlist. For a Thursday evening, the restaurant was pleasantly busy and buzzing with energy which is exactly the kind of lively atmosphere we love. There's plenty of parking, and the space itself is spotless, beautifully decorated, and clearly well cared for. The staff were all so friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The star of the show was definitely the meat. After trying nearly every Korean BBQ spot in Santa Clara, I can confidently say Chungdam has the best quality in the area. The difference in flavor and texture of the beef is immediately noticeable. It was tender, well-marbled, and full of rich taste. The banchan were outstanding too, especially the raw crab (my absolute favorite). We also loved the steamed egg, japchae, and bibimbap which were all delicious and perfectly executed. Our server, Bryan, took excellent care of us on our first visit and made the whole experience even better. He even told us about a back room that you can reserve for special occasions or even for hosting after work gatherings or dinners with friends We'll definitely be back soon! We ordered the Signature A set menu for two. This set consisted of: Glass Noodles w/Beef and Mushrooms - really is Japchae, glass noodles stir fried with beef slices, mushrooms and cabbage. A savory, umami dish to start the palate. Selection of Banchan - spring onion pancakes, creamy macaroni, chili crab, cabbage kimchi and seaweed. All very tasty, especially the chili crab (sweet tasting meat). Bibimbap - a full size serving of rice, mixed vegetables, ground beef served in a hot stone bowl with a fried egg on top. My wife who is very picky about bibimbap, said this was very good. Soy Bean Stew - aka beef tofu soup, spicy, hearty and flavorful with tender cubes of beef. Wow. It was a 45 minute wait for 3 on a Friday afternoon. We walked in around 11:47. First time coming here and really enjoyed the service. You can also waitlist on Yelp so that's great. They have that call button to ask for anything you need from the server. Wonderful! The food was delicious. Loved the drink and the banchan. The pancake was everyone's favorite. Couldn't believe there was also crab too? The prices were very reasonable. We wanted to try the special but it was sold out. So we will have to come again next time maybe earlier ... Ordered 2 bibimap beef. What a workout to get that crisp rice out from the bottom. That bowl stayed hot for a long time. The seating was wonderful. Another landmark is that it's right next to the Super 8 by Wyndham. Both share the parking lot, so finding a spot can be difficult, but there's street parking available too. RESERVATION/HOST I made a reservation for 3 at 7:30PM on a Saturday evening. I'm glad I planned ahead because, upon entering, there were about 5 parties waiting to be seated. My party was greeted warmly and was quickly seated after my reservation was confirmed. SERVICE Very prompt and professional service. The BBQ meats were cooked consistently, and every request was accommodated. FOOD Chungdam focuses on delivering high-quality meats for your Korean BBQ experience. The banchan was delicious! I was surprised that three spicy raw baby crabs were served. To be honest, it was my first time trying it despite hearing about the hype. It paired pretty well with rice. The dressing and condiments were perfect. I appreciated that salt was provided since we ordered all non-marinade meats. The fermented bean curd dip was my favorite. The seafood pancake we ordered took a bit longer to arrive, but it was delicious and crispy! My friend and I frequently come for their lunch special menu, which has a variety of classic Korean entrees and some basic kbbq meats. We typically always like getting the raw beef bimbimbap or cold noodle, and then also ordering a beef tartar. Their raw beef feels extremely fresh and the flavor is always good. The service here is pretty top notch, if you're sharing, the workers will help portion out the food for you. The sides are also top tier. Raw marinated crab as a banchan is insane value. Wow this place is incredible!! Definitely one of the top KBBQ places in the bay area. Ambiance: 10/10 very modern, love the elegant light, perfect for a special occasion! Yangnyeom Galbi : 10/10 just such an incredible cut of meat marinated with the most fragrant sweet soy. It was impressively tender and so easy to eat. Jul Mul Luck : 7/10 the meat was marinated really well, but the meat was definitely chewier than the galbi. Still a solid option. Additional notes on food: I can't believe they provide raw marinated crab as a side dish!! Wow it was incredible and such a nice perk that makes this restaurant stand out. I normally don't like Korean bbq because one is meant to bbq their own grill--I for one hate cooking so Korean BBQ has been the one to avoid. HOWEVER--here the staff preps the meat and cook it! Came here on a Friday night to celebrate my friend's birthday :) I easily made reservations on Yelp and I was able to adjust the time from 6:30PM to 5:45PM the same day. The parking lot is quite small. They share it with a motel and gets packed quickly. I parked more towards the back which is a bit sketch :o The inside of the restaurant is super nice and spacious. It was my friend's first time here and we went with options the server recommended. We ordered chungdam galbi and beef tongue along with seafood pancake and rice. I stopped by Chungdam with a friend around 12pm on a Tuesday, and it was relatively busy - but we did get a table without wait. The service is really prompt, and there's a button to ask for help when you're ready to order or want a refill on banchan, for the check, etc. The interior is nice, modern and slightly upscale. They asked us if we preferred a bbq table and we said we didn't and were led to a bench table. I got the galbitang (the special magnum galbitang was already sold out for the day), and my friend got the chef's special rice cake and dumpling soup. Both came out perfectly hot but not burning, and were the comforting, rich, savory and flavorful stews that we were craving. The galbitang had a generous amount of rib meat that was tender but not falling apart, and the perfect amount of glass noodle. The broth was clean and savory, and I really enjoyed the bits of jujube. I tried a bit of the rice cake and dumpling soup as well, and the dumplings were super large with a soft tofu? filling that was really enjoyable with the creamy soup. Special shoutout to the banchan - one of which was raw marinated crab which was super sweet and tasty with the rice. I also really appreciated the barley tea and the sweet pumpkin soup at the end for dessert, which really round out the experience. There's also a pumpkin porridge in the beginning as an appetizer, but I didn't love it because it had a bit of a raw rice flour type flavor to it. We came in about 7pm with no wait-time. First glance, the restaurant was modern and had a upscale vibe. It seemed clean with good lighting. Servers were super attentive, although service seemed a bit slow given the holidays. we tried several dishes as listed below. Chungdam galbi 5/5. This seemed like one of their signature meats. Tender and well-marinated. This is a must try. Their version of Galbi-Jjim 5/5 IMO this was just as good as any of the grilled meat dish as a more affordable pricepoint. The shortrib was so tender, coated in their sauce and cheese. It was so comforting, especially given the recent cold weather. Joo-Mul-Luk 5/5 - Outshined by some of the other dishes we ordered this evening. But i'd say these were well seasoned bite sized pieces. Good ratio between the amount of meat to the price point. Everything there is so competent and precise - the service is great (side note - I wish more places and cultures would adopt the call buttons - I hate trying to flag down waitstaff sometimes). Service is precise prompt and unobtrusive. If you order bbq, they'll cook it for you (and show you how to eat it if you're new to Korean food.). It's often an acquired taste to eat the savory meats with pickled veggies but try it! The only thing I wish was that they used charcoal so you got some more smokey flavor. But other than that, it's always a great meal. And I feel like other places have just gotten more expensive - when I first went to Chungdam, it felt pricey but I think it's actually not bad now. I've been here twice so far. On the most recent visit, I brought three friends and we ordered Signature B, 눈꽃살, and 비빔냉면. Food was stellar. Everything was perfectly prepared/cooked. The meat was juicy, fatty, and flavorful with a little hint of smokiness that completed the experience that I desire from beef. The 해물 파전 isn't made conventionally. It has this beautiful crispy top that adds a new dimension to the experience. The 잡채 wasn't as plentiful as I would've liked but it doesn't matter since it functions as an appetizer to the rest of the meal. The 된장찌개 was yummy for someone who hasn't tried it before. I should also mention that the complimentary side dishes includes raw marinated crab which was absolute heaven. Squeeze it like a toothpaste bottle and the juicy crab comes right out. One of my friends is a big eater (just a beefier human in general), so we decided to get an extra order of 눈꽃살. If I were to order again for the same group of friends (4 people total), I would order 해물 파전, 돌솥 비빔밥, 청담 갈비, 양념갈비, and 눈꽃살. I think its close to the amount of food that we ordered, but a little more affordable and some (superior) substitutions. The staff was friendly and efficient which was fantastic. I got to meet the owner/manager, he seems like a kind and friendly gentleman. I want to come back more often for the 해물 파전 and 양념갈비. Chungdam has lightly remodelled since my last visit. Some of the details are still lacking...such as there was paint on adjacent walls, pencil marks from dining table markings etc. Started off with the beef japchae and it was decent. It was filled with beef and mushrooms. The original version with seafood when they first opened was even better. The beef short rib stew was excellent. It's now presented on a cast-iron pan, instead of a cast-iron pot...perhaps shrinkflation? The meat was very tender and flavorful....perhaps even a touch too flavorful. This place is amazing ! My family and I went here for Mother's Day lunch. We had reservations via Yelp (of course). They sat us a table close to a window. From the outside the building is inconspicuous, but inside was nicely decorated. From the beautiful orchids and lighting fixtures. Now let me tell you about the food. We had various cuts of meat. I also liked the salad that accompanied our food. They prepared the meat on the grill for us. I've been to places where we had to cook our own and other places that cook for us. Not picky. We ate most of the food and had a bit of leftovers so I think it was the perfect amount. I won't lie I think I prefer the banchan at Seorai more- however, we got a side of raw marinated crab which was DELICIOUS! The sauce was so yummy. My family and I also really enjoyed the short rib- I think this is a must order here. It was very tender and flavorful. Something I think worth noting is we didn't really smell like kbbq after, which is a huge plus since most places the smell can really linger on your clothes and hair. My friendsand I had a reservation at Chungdam for 6:30pm on a Wednesday. She had been to the restaurant once, but this was my first time at Chungdam. She was also the same friend who introduced me to Seorai, Chungdam's sister restaurant, which I thought was pretty good. Not only did Chungdam meet my expectations, but it also exceeded them. I would go as far as saying that Chungdam was much better than Seorai's. That said, they have different vibes by which Chungdam felt more of an upscale experience. We were seated in one of the private rooms. Perfect for an intimate dinner. Everything about the service was outstanding. Our food came out really fast, and Su Jin, our main server, was the best! The white glove service was real. She helped to portion the servings evenly, and I loved how enthusiastic she was when our food came out. I learned about the ingredients, health benefits, etc... reminded me of an omakase dinner when the server or chef shared a story behind the meal. In general, the other wait staff members were hospitable and highly attentive. My friend, who is Korean, made the suggestion of not doing kbbq like we always do but trying the traditional Korean dishes instead. I was game for whatever, so I let her do the ordering. There wasn't a dish that I didn't like, and I was so glad we had leftovers to take home. Welcome porridge - Loved it, and I can't say I ever had a porridge quite like it. The texture was not like I expected, which was blended and smooth. Banchan - We had the pleasure of getting marinated raw crab as part of our banchan. What a treat! Again, something I've never had before but have always wanted to try. Bone broth - Absolutely fantastic. So rich with umami flavor. My friend said that sometimes it's made with oxtail bones, and I totally got that flavor. Spicy braised short rib with cheese - I think this was Galbi jjim. The beef was very tender, and I loved the fattiness. Cold noodles - Never had it prior, so this was incredibly unique to me. If you love kimchi, then you'll appreciate the flavor. I thought it was cool how they make the noodles in-house. Sea bass - This was Su Jin's favorite dish off the menu, and I could see why. I already love sea bass, which was beautifully plump and flaky, but the marinate for this stew was everything. Kabocha dessert soup - Kabocha is one of my favorite squashes, but I've only had it prepared as a savory side. Who knew that it could be made into a sweet soup? I hadn't done any research beforehand, so we were a bit surprised to find the restaurant had more of an upscale vibe, you can tell from the interior and seating layout. There's a mix of regular tables and grill tables. For our party of three, we ordered the spicy short rib with cheese, Chungdam galbi, grilled pork belly, and three bowls of rice. The meal came with complimentary sides, though there weren't as many varieties compared to other Korean spots. Portions are on the smaller side, so I'd recommend ordering an extra dish or two. That said, it ended up being just the right amount for us since it was our first meal of the day. First impression is a modern elevated Korean dining experience. Staff is very attentive and professional. No wait time for a weekend lunch. We did opt to share the beef bibimbap and tofu soup. The bibimbap incorporated probably some of the freshest veggies I've had in a bibimbap and tasted wonderful. A filling and guilt-free option for sure! The tofu soup checked every box for me. You can never go wrong with this choice! More on the expensive side, but the ingredients and service definitely validate it. read more

The first time I came here was many years ago, and I don't remember them offering higher quality meats back then. This time, we ordered the Chungdam Prime Galbi, which our server recommended--and it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the spicy cold noodles, and to go with the meat, I requested lettuce, jalapeños, garlic, and chili paste for wrapping. I really appreciated that the meat was cut in the traditional Seoul style rather than the LA cross-cut. The meat is on the more premium side, but it was worth the price point for higher quality. The ambiance was chic and nice, which made me really happy--there aren't that many Korean BBQ spots around here that match the vibe and quality of places in LA Koreatown, so this was a nice surprise. We also had their house wine, which was surprisingly decent for the price--around $15 with a meal. As for parking, there's a lot in the back and street parking available. We went on a Wednesday night around 8 PM, and it wasn't overly crowded. That said, I'm not sure how it would be on a Friday or Saturday with larger groups or families. Been wanting to try this place for awhile, and then other delicious restaurants keep coming up, and the cycle starts over! However, I'm glad I got to try this place. I wouldn't say it's "upscale" but it's very "posh" and "modern" with the interior. It does give the "oh wow, this is a nice setting for a nice get together/meeting/celebration" since it is higher end. That said, the meat was beautifully presented and was very tender. I enjoyed the galbi. I loved the omasake style box to present the meat - it was different than the wooden stand I typically see. I liked it. I do like the banchan and thought it was delicious, but my (personal and probably unpopular) opinion is allowing certain things like the fishcake to warm up a little bit and not cold so it doesn't feel like you just pulled it out of the fridge. However, one can argue that because they just pulled it out of the fridge, it's fresh! And I like that feeling. But everything else was good - I enjoyed the mushrooms and the kimchi most. The steamed egg was beautifully presented and the japchae noodles were so good and well seasoned. My friend and I loved it! Service on a weekday dinner was attentive - waters were refilled when we were running low, we were asked how we liked our meats cooked, and our server allowed privacy for conversation and other workers in that section refilled our banchan as needed before we had to ask. My deciding factor for coming back is asking "is this a place I would take my family/husband to?" and the answer is yes, so I look forward to coming back. :) read more

Chungda is one of our favorite places for date night especially after a work day in the Silicon Valley. It's elegant, modern, friendly. The food is top quality.
