Tried Leichi right when they opened, so the space was calm with plenty of seating, which made for a relaxed start to the meal. The food was decent overall. Nothing was off, but nothing really stood out either. The sashimi was fresh and the grilled fish was cooked well, though the flavors and presentation didn't quite leave a lasting impression. It felt like everything played it a bit safe. Service was the highlight. Our server was attentive, checked in at the right moments, and made sure everything was taken care of without being intrusive. Overall, a solid spot if you're looking for a quiet, easy meal, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for just yet.

Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Made a reservation for dinner and our table was ready upon arrival. Parking was plentiful in the private strip mall lot and dining was available indoors exclusively. The menu was large and the restaurant also had a few daily specials. Started off with the sea bream miso which was different. I was expecting a piece of fish inside some dashi broth. The agedashi tofu was tasty with a tempura mushrom. The assorted tempura was a generous portion and came with a few dipping accoutrements. The highlight may have been the grilled black cod which was buttery smooth and grilled to perfection. The grilled beef tongue was tasty too. The soba was light and best finished sooner rather than later since the hot broth kept on cooking the noodles. The panna cotta was a tasty way to finish off dinner. ~$65/head after tax and gratuity for dinner

I really enjoyed the ambiance as soon as I entered the restaurant. They quickly seated us on a Sunday night. I ordered chicken hot soba, eggplants, salmon cheekbone, poured tofu, chirashi and many other dishes. I love the traditional Japanese restaurants. If you like raw fish, it's the best place for you. The parking is very easy to find.

What a cozy Izakaya! Not fancy, just small and cozy to give an intimate feel. Waiting staff was eager to accommodate and foods excellent. The booths were on the clamp side -- I was forced to sit straight. If it is a bit closer to home, I will probably come every week.

This restaurant holds a special place in my heart, as it's the first higher-end meal I treated my parents to from my first corporate job. I cannot rave enough about how EVERY. SINGLE. DISH. IS. DELICIOUS! The first time I had Leichi, I wanted to go back the week after because it was that good. Service (with reservation) is always on point and food comes out quick. The waiters are welcoming and open to answering any questions. My favorites are the tempura octopus, homemade tofu, cold duck soba, black cod, hojicha panna cotta, and assorted sushi. They ship their fish from Japan, so it's always high quality and fresh. The sashimi is literally melt in your mouth. The housemade tofu is fresh and has the rich soy flavor. My boyfriend isn't a big tofu guy, but even he loved it. The black cod is cooked with sake and a must try! Their ginger ale is housemade with their ginger syrup. I'm always grabbing two cups whenever I go! The hojicha panna cotta is rich, creamy, and always a great end to any meal.

Your beef tongue is so good and your karrage chicken is so good next time I come to Leichi I'm gonna try your beef teriyaki bento box and soup on the side yummy

Came here with my husband for a lunch date and it was perfect. The restaurant is really cozy with tables separated by dividers. Here's what we got: Assorted tempura: 10/10 lightly coated and fried really well. It came with radish, ginger, and matcha salt. I will say the matcha salt just tastes like salt but it was fun! Harasu: 9/10 tasty salmon belly cooked perfected with crispy skin Sashimi bento: 9/10 sashimi was fresh Sweet raw shrimp: 10/10 they fry the head Potato salad: 9/10 the flavors are great but i don't love the texture over a bed of mixed greens. It was tasty but I wouldn't get it again given all the other options on the menu(:

Cold tofu, doesn't event know what to do. End up messed up the tofu. I wish the waitress will explain.

Prices are bigger high considering for lunch. I got sashimi bento $33. Fishes are smaller pieces and cut was not decent. Tried it and will not come back.

Loved this place! If you're looking for traditional Japanese cuisine and small plates this is the place to go. Service was quick and the food quality was great. Ordered the chawanmushi, salmon chazuke, the seared scallops, and the duck dipping soba. My top dish was the salmon chazuke. I also loved the soba quality but thought the duck portions could have been larger given the price. Would come back to try more items!

A Bay Area staple that is 100% worth visiting. Small, clean restaraunt. Make sure you call to make a reservation, or come early around the first hour of opening to make sure you don't need to wait in a long line. Hot Sake is great here, as well as the Lychee Highball. Recommend getting both! FOOD: Special Chirashi Bowl (8/10) - Ingrediants (scallop, ikura, uni) were really fresh. Only downside was that the bowl is small for it's price. Hamachi Carpaccio (7/10) - Solid fresh fish, but not as fatty as other places I've had in the bay. Sauce is very good though. Yuzu Ikura (6/10) - Interesting solid starter, but I think the radish slightly overpowers the ikura. Good with rice though. Steamed Gindara (9/10) - SO good! Fish was so tender, fatty and fresh, and the broth was amazing. Vinegared Scallop X Octopus (7/10) - Small portion but the freshness of the octopus and scallop really shined through. Nasu Dengaku (10/10!!!!) - So good. So good! Will order 2 of these next time i come. Perfectly cooked eggplant with a sweet miso sauce on top.

Duck udon at top, tai salad(L), goma tofu(R), gindara saikyo black cod at the bottom

We did a random Saturday lunch walk in and were seated immediately. Meals are all so good and seemed more authentic than some fusion Japanese places. My top favorite dish has to be: - Gindara Saikyo (black cod steamed in sake)!! It's so tender and light; I can literally eat a couple of these. Overall, prices are good. Would definitely come back just for the fish and the goma tofu dish!

I came here on a Saturday evening and was seated immediately at the bar. There were a lot of interesting items on the menu but I ended up getting uni topped tofu, cold noodles (recommended by my server), an ikura bowl, and the sashimi special. For one person, it was a good amount of food, and I did end up leaving some noodles behind. I felt that service was good, as I was checked in on multiple times, and that the food was excellent in taste and quality. The server offered to deep fry the shrimp head which I thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant itself is small and quaint and felt like an intimate space. I enjoyed all of the items I ordered and would return to explore other food items.

Leichi is always so satisfying when I want nice Japanese cuisine! Service is very attentive, and while the restaurant is small, it's in a convenient location and cozy! Plenty of parking in the lot next to Lucky as well. Kaisendon here is spectacular 9/10 Duck soba is consistently good 8/10 Yuzu sorbet and the tofu dessert are 9.5/10 The scallop crudo style appetizer with basil oil wasn't their best work, flavors felt awkward and clashing 6/10

You could stumble upon it through Yelp (as we did), discover it while staying at the adjacent Treehouse Hotel, or simply hear about it through word of mouth. The parking situation is an interesting one. After turning into the driveway from Mathilda Avenue, you have two options: turn right for valet parking or left into the Google parking lot. There are plenty of spaces available, though parking there is technically at your own risk. The restaurant told us they had not heard of anyone being ticketed or towed. We first dined here shortly after it opened in 2025 and were immediately impressed by the beautiful grounds. The hotel's eco-conscious gift shop, housed in a glass greenhouse and featuring a colorful vintage VW Bug, is a charming touch. The short walk to the restaurant feels especially relaxing on a warm, sunny day. This has become one of our favorite places to bring friends or host girls' lunches. With three distinct seating options: the dining room, bar, and patio, there's an atmosphere to suit just about any occasion, whether you're dining as a couple or gathering with a larger group. I would recommend visiting during lunch or dinner service and skipping the in-between hours. During that time, only the bar area is open and the menu is more limited. To fully experience what Valley Goat has to offer, lunch or dinner is the way to go. Despite the name, the only goat dish on the menu at the time of this review is the Goat Empanadas. My friend was initially hesitant to order them, but David, our wonderful server, and I encouraged her to give them a try. She was glad she did. There was no gamey flavor whatsoever; the meat tasted more like beef, and the accompanying sauce was excellent. Over several visits, we've enjoyed everything we've ordered and are delighted to have a restaurant of this caliber in our Bay Area backyard. Chef and co-owner Stephanie Izard, winner of Season 4 of Top Chef and an Iron Chef title, owns a total of nine restaurants, primarily in the Chicago area, along with locations in Los Angeles and one at Orlando International Airport. Since we enjoy traveling for great food, we'll definitely be adding some of her other restaurants to our list.

The service was quite slow throughout the evening. We ordered the goat empanadas, wood-fired Mary's chicken, sprouted cauliflower, eggplant, and sticky pork shank. What surprised me most was how similar everything tasted. From the appetizers to the main dishes, the flavors seemed repetitive and lacked distinction. Each dish looked appealing, but none really stood out. Overall, the food felt uninspired, and I didn't get the sense that much care had gone into developing unique flavors for the menu. Given the many 5-star reviews, I was expecting much more and left feeling disappointed. The ambiance is lovely, but I would not return for the food. Don't be misled by the photos, they were far more impressive than the actual dining experience.

We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and it was one of those meals where everyone at the table found something they loved. One dish I was surprisingly impressed by was the Ankimo (steamed monkfish liver in ponzu). I'll admit, the word liver immediately made me hesitant, and if they hadn't told me what it was, I probably would've been less nervous trying it. But I'm really glad I did because it was incredibly buttery, smooth, and rich. It almost melts in your mouth, and I honestly think it would pair perfectly with a bowl of steamed rice. We also ordered the Hiyayakko (cold tofu with ginger & scallions), which was a really refreshing starter. The tofu was silky smooth and delicate, and the ginger, scallions, and soy-based seasoning added just enough flavor without taking away from the freshness of the tofu. It was simple, but really well done. We also ordered the Salmon Mayo Yaki Onigiri. While it was good, I think this is the one dish I'd probably skip next time. The crispy grilled rice ball itself was delicious, but there just wasn't enough salmon mayo on top. It felt like I only got a tiny spoonful, so once that was gone, it was mostly just rice. Since my family couldn't decide, we ended up ordering all three clay pots: the Sake Oyako Meshi (grilled salmon & salmon roe), Unagi Meshi (BBQ freshwater eel), and Tori Soboro Meshi (braised ground chicken). Out of all of them, the Unagi Meshi was easily my favorite. The eel was tender, slightly smoky, and coated in a sweet-savory glaze that soaked into the rice underneath, making every bite incredibly satisfying. The clay pots also gave the rice a nice crispy layer on the bottom, which added even more texture. We also shared two of their signature pizzas: the Mentai Kinoko and the Nasu Curry. I wasn't expecting much since it's pizza at a Japanese restaurant, but they were honestly so good. The crust was paper-thin, crispy, and light, so it didn't leave you feeling heavy afterward. The Mentai Kinoko had a great balance of spicy cod roe, snow crab, mushrooms, bacon, and cheese, while the Nasu Curry had a rich curry flavor that paired surprisingly well with the eggplant and cheese. Both were huge hits with my family. The restaurant itself has a warm, traditional Japanese atmosphere that makes it feel cozy and inviting. The server was incredibly friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain the menu and recommend dishes when we couldn't decide what to order. Their recommendations definitely did not disappoint. My whole family left happy, and it's one of those restaurants where I already know I'll be coming back to try even more of the menu.

I think they should go back to providing at least 1-2 real menus per table. It was very warm in the restaurant even though they said the AC was on. The food came out relatively fast, but there were some pauses between dishes. The claypot rice took the longest and I was almost full by the time it arrived. Ambiance: casual restaurant, authentic Japanese style where you have to remove your shoes and sit on mats. The restaurant filled up quickly by 7pm. We had a reservation for 6:15pm.

We're glad we picked here to show them what the Bay Area can do in terms of more authentic Japanese food. The decor is traditional and not fancy, but comfortable and clean. The shishito peppers were really tasty, not too hot, pleasantly hot. Edamame was typical, nothing really special, but it's a bit difficult to really elevate edamame. The braised pork was good and the lean parts were easy to selectively eat. Nothing here is aggressively seasoned, but also not at all bland, so it's a good balance of flavorful but not overbearing. The grilled chicken wings were okay, but nothing outstanding or memorable - but simple and fine. Our "main" dishes, the deluxe meshi, nike tofu, and okonomiyaki were all great! We ordered the Niku Trio Set, which included braised pork, grilled chicken wings, niku tofu, edamame, and shishito. The food came out really quickly. Other than the edamame, which was very bland, everything was very flavorful. The pork was very soft, and the sliced thin beef paired really well with the tofu in the niku tofu. Both dishes came piping hot, and were very comforting, like home-cooked food. The shishito peppers came with a lot of bonito flakes; they're charred very well and not spicy at all. Wings well nicely grilled, too. The seafood okonomiyaki was not bad. It's a bit softer than I expected, but had quite a lot of seafood. The large Deluxe Meshi was pretty big. It came in a hot stone pot with a generous amount of salmon, eel, flying fish roe and a poached egg. I loved how crispy the rice around the pot was. No wonder it's their most popular dish. If you like authentic Japanese food, I would highly recommend this place.

I am a big advocate for trying new things every time I go to a restaurant, but it was so good I ordered the same thing the second time I went. Arancini is flavored with Japanese curry with creamy fontina in the center topped off with kimchi mayo. Holy f. These quite literally put the traditional Italian ones to shame (sorry not sorry). Next was the bucatini. It had tom yum butter, lime, basil- all the fix ins of what you want from tom yum flavors with the luxuriousness added from the butter. It was sinful. Last and certainly not least, is the pork katsu. I cannot even remember the last time I ordered a pork katsu, but something told me to order it. First the knock, and to be fair, it's probably just an opinion / idea. Given the birth of natural wine and the South Bay, it would be wonderful to see a curated selection of tasting flights, no more than two or three options with anywhere from 3 to 6 wine wines each, priced accordingly. Maintaining a proper wine menu when all you do is natural wine can certainly be a challenge. If you wine flights depending on what you have would certainly elevate the customer experience by educating more people natural wine and helping them make better choices when it comes to a bottle purchase. I paid $61 for a bottle that was recommended, and at that price point I wonder how many people who are new to natural wine might be turned off. Chris was a wonderful host and certainly the right person to engage with customers around their various wines. Given how small the space is and how busy it can get, a weekly tasting flight menu might be a good way to engage those customers who are waiting to order at the bar and perhaps even spark a more productive conversation with Chris. We ordered the peach and ricotta dish with Thai basil... wow, a wonderful surprise. Peaches are always battling in and out of the top spot on my summer fruit list and this combination was downright dirty and delicious! We also ordered the raw oysters with watermelon mignonette. Another wow! I didn't expect the little spice kick and it was a perfect pairing to the sweetness of the watermelon. If anyone knows the recipe let me know, I'd bottle that mignonette and take it with me wherever I have oysters!! Overall, a great experience and I most definitely look forward to going back!

Just never got around to working a review before. Went early on a Saturday evening recently and was surprised to not have to wait. We split a Bibb lettuce salad that was simple, refreshing and perfect. A tiny pea fritter was the very definition of a small bite, and while it wasn't what I expected, it was crisp and tender. Grilled artichoke was one of the best I have ever had. (Just wish they had been explicit on the menu that it was a half a grilled artichoke). Cocktails were up to their usual high standard -- rye Manhattan for the BF and clarified milk punch for me. I don't get out much these days and I rarely drink alcohol, but is $20 a lot for a cocktail? Or is that normal now? They were great though. BF got the ribeye with morels, which was perfectly cooked and unbelievably tender. I had the burger, which was more exciting than it sounds, dressed with a wild combo of veggies, cheese and bacon while still managing to be harmonious and fresh tasting. Side of fries were crisp and tasty, though not as perfectly hot as I would ideally wish. Because the burger was late coming out, or server (Bernardo I think?) comped us an amazing little dish of vanilla soft serve ice cream with olive oil and sea salt, along with the butterscotch pudding that we ordered. The pudding didn't have the strong butterscotch flavor that I hoped for, but the vanilla ice cream stole the dessert show. OCK isn't a place I can afford often, but I still really like it. I appreciate the creativity of the dishes, the quality ingredients, and the bar. And the old-school shopping center vibe of the Pruneyard is low key festive and garden-like. The interior of the restaurant is kind of standard-industrial modern, but nicely so. Oh, and their glassware is super nice.

But the food has really dropped off. It used to be that they would have a variety of tapas that could please multiple palates. Now, almost everything we had was a play on deep fried with creamy fillings. There was no relief on most dishes with anything fresh. Squash blossoms: deep fried with some creamy filling. Langos: fried bread topped with cream, topped with non melted cheese. All served cold Burrata Gourges. Deep fried to the point of being unrecognizable. The sautéed asparagus was good. There just wasn't enough else for us to justify the calories. Good thing is, they change the menu frequently. Hopefully the next one has better variety.

It's such a cozy spot to hang out, and the vibe was perfect for a relaxed evening. The meatballs were especially delicious -- definitely recommend ordering them. What really stood out, though, was the service after my visit. I accidentally left my backpack there on Saturday and didn't realize until later. Even though they're closed on Sundays and Mondays, Tina went above and beyond to help me get it back. She responded to my email on Sunday and coordinated everything so I could retrieve my belongings. That level of care and responsiveness is rare and meant so much to me. I'm incredibly grateful and will absolutely be back. Great food, great wine, great music, and truly wonderful people.

The gentleman serving us, who was wearing a black Mexico jersey, took our table but then disappeared for an extended period of time and never checked back on us. He seemed disoriented and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. His behavior and demeanor made us uncomfortable and left us feeling neglected as customers. After waiting quite a while, I had to get up and ask another employee for assistance. I believe her name was Michelle. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and helpful, and she did her best to turn the experience around. Her customer service was excellent and was the only positive part of our visit. That said, the service at the beginning was completely unacceptable. Management should address situations like this, as customers should not have to wonder whether employees are drinking while on the job.
