Then look no further, because Sen Dai knocks down 2 birds with one stone. Good prices, big portions, fast service, they have it all - at the cost of some authenticity and wait times. I came here at 5:15PM on a weekend and the restaurant was already almost full. By the time I left, there was a good amount of people waiting outside, so make sure you come early to avoid the crowd. The plaza is also tiny so parking may be a bit tough. I ordered an extra large Milpitas roll, Lemondrop, and Orgasmic. Food came about 5-10min after we ordered, which was surprisingly quick given the number of takeout orders and customers. The raw fish tastes very fresh, and they do not skimp on the portions! The star of the show was the Milpitas roll, but I feel like you cannot go wrong with most of their sushi roll menu items. This is one of the few establishments that give me pre-Covid vibes - large portions, fair prices, quick service, and decor that's a little outdates but gets the job done. I think that I've come here about 10 times already and I've narrowed my favorites down to 3 items: Mark's Special ($16.50) for the scallops, Storm Bringer ($18) for the crab, and Pork Belly Bento ($21.50) a good bang for your buck, leaving us with leftovers to pack for lunch the next day! The sister and I ordered takeout to eat at our parents house for an early Mother's day celebration. Our total came to about $220 before tax and tip. This order included: Combo roll U - this had 3 pre-set rolls at a slight discount Rockstar roll - yum, loved the lemon slice and mac nuts Toro sashimi combo - 9 slices of maguro, o-toro and chu-toro Individual fatty tuna sashimis Sake wasabi don - thicc slices of salmon. The wasabi sauce was aight 10 pc sashimi combo - nice variety Beef bulgogi rice plate - kind basic but we ordered this for the SO (non seafood liker) Our order fed 5 people total and everyone definitely came out so full. I usually go to Kakuna, but this place honestly blew it out of the water. Prices are super reasonable for the quality you're getting. The fish was fresh, thick, and really tasty. We got the Chirashi A bowl, Spider bowl, and Alaska bowl, loved all of them. The restaurant itself is also a lot cleaner and better maintained, which I appreciated. Service was great too, staff checked in on us multiple times and made sure everything was good. Also nice that the meal came with miso soup. Sendai has always been a fav of mine. It's been a while since I've been here but even on a Monday evening, it was still popping. I tried their chicken katsu bento and that was solid. It's so worth the price for everything you get. The chicken was so crispy and tender and not overly breaded. Their katsu sauce was tangy and so delicious. Salad was good. I absolutely adore this gem in Milpitas!! From the moment they opened, they were already packed with guests because of how popular this place is. They charge affordable prices, they have good food portions, and their food is sooo delicious!! I got the bento box with the tempura add on. Everything was so fresh and so tasty. I loved that the bento came with a couple side dishes like miso soup and some seasoned bean sprouts. It was so healthy and so good. For a little bit more you get to add on tempura and you get a decent amount of crispy freshly fried tempura. Amazing quality and thick slices of fish with lots of extra rice. We enjoyed having the side items that came with our order - radish sprouts, sliced yellow onions, pickled radishes, and tamagoyaki (rolled omelette). The sashimi cuts were quite thick, and while some bits of the kanpachi were slightly stringy I really appreciated how hearty the portion sizes were! Per recommendation from some friends, I came here on a weekend right before it opened, there was already a line. We got seated pretty quickly. There's a lot of staff making the sushi, and orders came out within 5 minutes. We ordered the: Nigiri Combo Appetizer B: it comes with hamachi (yellowtail), sake (salmon), chutoro (tuna) - 2 pieces each. The fish was good quality, really like the chutoro the best. The Booty Call Roll (4 large pieces) : there was a lot going on in this roll, really big as well for a single piece. It came with spicy tuna, unagi, fried shrimp, avocado, fish eggs, a variety of sauces and macadamia nut. Overall it was fine, I prefer smaller rolls. The Storm Bringer Roll (8 pieces) : recommended by the wait staff, it came with soft shell crab, crab roll, topped with yellowtail, salmon, unagi, avocado, unagi sauce and fish eggs. My go to sushi spot in the bay area! Usually I'll do a doordash pick up...but I've gone a few times to sit in the last few months. I've ordered quite a bit of things before: vegetable croquette appetizer $8 sake wasabi don $28 chirashi combo A $32 (tuna, scallop, sake, hamachi, kanpachi) bento sushi set beef teriyaki They do server 2 bottled beers, but for the most part no alcohol. Food comes out relatively fast for the most part. If it is a part of the bento, it could take longer (beef teriyaki took super long last time) There is not that much difference with in person and takeout for chirashi combo...which is how it should be. The quality control here is fantastic regardless of eating in person or doing a takeout. Great quality fish, thick cuts, lots of rice...most people probably don't finish the rice. For in person, they do yelp wait list in person. (I don't think you can do it on the app for this spot). Biggest difficulty is parking. During peak hours, spots are small and tough. You may need to park farther out and walk over. read more

Came on a Sunday night and surprisingly it wasn't too crowded. The wait was about 20 minutes, although other times we've come it's been over an hour, so make sure to plan accordingly. Store is clean and workers are friendly. Parking can be a bit difficult, and I recommend adding yourself to the waitlist on the tablet as soon as you arrive. We ordered the chicken karaage, Happy Blossom, Storm Bringer, Lemon Drop, Hop Yard, and baked scallop roll. I personally really enjoyed the Happy Blossom, it's very refreshing and well balanced. The Lemon Drop was okay, but next time I would ask for the wasabi white sauce on the side since it was a bit too spicy for me and made it a bit in enjoyable. The Hop Yard and baked scallop roll were decent, though I felt the baked scallop roll could have used more scallops as it was just one small scallop on top of the roll. Overall, I enjoy this place and would come back. I do wish they had a mango roll, but I'll definitely return to try some of their other rolls. read more

My family and I love trying new sushi spots whenever we're celebrating a special occasion, and that's how we stumbled across Sen Dai Sushi. We arrived right before they closed for their dinner prep at 1:40 PM, so we were worried they might not be able to seat us or that we'd feel rushed, but our server was amazing. She was attentive, polite, and made us feel completely welcome. We're huge fans of raw fish, especially when it comes to sushi, and the hamachi and toro were incredibly fresh--melt-in-your-mouth good. I barely even needed to use any ginger, which says a lot about the quality and freshness. We ordered a ton of appetizers, but the real stars of the meal were the baked scallop roll and the baked mussels. The sauce that came with the baked mussels was so good that we found ourselves dipping our other dishes into it. My first impression of this place was that the portions are very generous. I ordered the chirashi, which came with huge cuts of fresh fish. My husband had the Hae-Dup-Bob, a Korean dish made with raw chopped fish, sesame oil, and gochujang sauce. The gochujang overpowered the delicate fish. I still preferred mine overall, though I do wish the fish pieces were cut a bit smaller. Our kids shared the beef udon, which was pretty good, and we added a side of oden soup made with assorted fish cakes in dashi broth. They really enjoyed their food. Since I arrived hungry, I also tried the Sumo roll. It had salmon and yellowtail inside, topped with spicy tuna, pickled jalapeño, spicy sauce, and radish sprouts. The pickled jalapeño added an interesting kick. I ended up taking mine off, but my husband liked it. We were glad we came early because parking is quite limited. The service was friendly and attentive. I appreciated that the staff brought extra bowls for the kids and even came by to help clean up a bit of miso soup my son spilled without us having to ask. Love this sushi spot. When we first moved to this neighborhood 6 years ago. Sendai was the only sushi restaurant here. It had continued to thrive even with the variety of other restaurants in our area now. It has continued to be one of my favorites. Great options for sushi rolls, portions are exceptionally large. 3 rolls were a bit much for me and my adult son. Definitely fresh fish and freshly made, we can see them at the sushi bar.... For specialty rolls my favorite for this visit is Sun roll and Nissan roll, the spice and flavors were just spot on. I would recommend coming early as we lined up just before they opened dinner service and the dining room filled up quick. Service is quick and servers are attentive. Huge blocks of rice stuffed in the nigiri, but it's also very hard at the same time and not seasoned well. People were raving about the tonkatsu curry rice so we ordered that too. One of my favorite sushi places in the Bay Area! They are always super busy and packed, even on a weekday night as a lot of people in the area come for dinner after work. The interior is very casual, and they don't have nice bar seating -- but I definitely like to come here once in a while for the food. I love how the sashimi are cut super thick, and they are super fresh. The price is also decent for the amount of food you get! I've never ordered any rolls, but they do look huge! I also love their appetizers like fried crab, baked mussel, etc. Service is also fast, and everyone is super friendly! Almost an amazing dinner here! 5/5! We love Sen Dai whether we want to dine in or take it to go, the people who work here are kind and helpful always. Even my four year old daughter loves their miso, tempura, Philadelphia roll, and their udon. Our go tos are the vegetable tempura appetizer, the Las Vegas roll, the teriyaki chicken bento, and a crunchy tempura roll. We have tried the sumo roll hoping it would be a good salmon roll, but we don't like the flavor on top. Their servers are so attentive and they love when you're enjoying yourself. There are about 7 sushi chefs working tirelessly on to go orders and dine in so your food comes out so fast!!! We only waited five minutes for our tempura and two rolls. Our dinner was efficient to say the least. We like it that way due to our impatient babe. Their miso soup is delicious and it's a must. They have a simple dining room that seats many patrons which helps with the wait time. I ordered the chicken katsu bento meal and added the tempura to it for an extra $3. The chicken was crispy and the salad was good. The tempura was also crispy and delicious. I was full at the end. The service was great. Our waitress was super patient and made sure she got our order correct. She came by the table a handful of times to check up on us. My water was refilled at least 3 times. That's one of the many things I grade service on is if they refill my water without me having to ask. The place is nice. It's kind of small so super big groups is probably not best. Our group was 6 which was big for them but they accommodated us. They have many sushi makers at their stations making/rolling the sushi. The prices are not terrible either. Multiple friends have recommended this spot to me over the course of the past few years but I only recently made the decision to try it. I had heard that Sen Dai was quality sushi on the pricier side, but I heard nothing of the generous portion sizes or efficient service. We pulled into the parking lot ten minutes before they opened for dinner service and already saw a few people standing outside. By the time we got out of the car and walked up, there were already over five parties in line ahead of us. Once 5 PM hit, everyone was ushered inside and seated quickly. Within the first ten minutes, every table in the dining room was filled. The menu is massive and we found it to be quite overwhelming. There were appetizers, sashimi, nigiri, special rolls, bentos, drinks, etc., then combination options between all of those as well. We decided to go with one Sen Dai roll and one Lemondrop roll, along with a mixed tempura appetizer. The Sen Dai roll wasn't really my thing, the wasabi sauce combined with the julienned jalapeños inside made every bite way too spicy. The Lemondrop roll was much more up my alley though, I love salmon with lemon and this roll totally hit the spot. The tempura shrimp was really well done but the vegetables could've been a bit better. I found the broccoli to be cut too large for my liking, the sweet potatoes a little on the thick side to be cooked thoroughly, but the shiitake mushroom was the best out of the tempura'ed veggies. Service was incredibly fast, from getting seated to having our order taken to our food arriving and then the check coming, we were in and out in under 45 minutes. I'll definitely return to this spot and continue recommending it to anyone looking for a sushi spot! Next time I'll pass on the Sen Dai roll though, and probably try one of the other specialty rolls or some of the nigiri options. read more

I came with a party of six for my birthday and she was very attentive, ensured our orders were accurate, and that we received everything in a timely manner. We tried a bit of everything from agedashi tofu, the rice bowls, classic rolls, and specialty rolls. I thoroughly enjoyed the hamachi carpaccio. The fish was buttery, had a mellow flavor, and the two types of citrus were a nice touch. The unagi rolls, crunchy roll, and specialty rolls were great. I think you're able to get great value from almost all of the rolls on the menu. The inside of the restaurant was very clean, organized, and great for smaller groups. Portions are gigantic, in-line with the Americanized theme. The clientele tends to be quite local... Started off with the rainbow roll and it was gigantic. There were numerous pieces of raw fish topped over a California roll filled with a ton of imitation crab. The spider roll was also tasty with a soft shell crab and imiation crab mix. The tempura mix was gigantic although the oil quality wasn't too fresh. The grilled salmon collar was my favorite as the collar was fresh and served with a ponzu sauce. Whether I order takeout or dine in, the portions are consistently the same, with the only exception being the ginger, which you cannot get extra of with to go orders. Service is always attentive, friendly, and quick. They can get pretty busy and do not use a waitlist, so plan accordingly. There is a decent amount of seating inside, and the restaurant is very clean. The sashimi is always thick cut and especially satisfying for a salmon lover. The rolls are solid across the board as well. I am surprisingly a big fan of their California roll because the mayo to crab ratio is just right. On my most recent visit, the salmon had sinew in every piece, which was disappointing since I usually hold this place in high regard. Sen Dai is one of the South Bay goats for sushi rolls. The rolls are extremely value considering the size, selection and quality. I have other favorites too but this is certainly one of them. Just hate dealing with the parking lot here. My friend and I came here for lunch and it was crowded. We ordered sushi and each individual sushi pieces within the roll were BIG! Loved it but at the same time it was hard to eat it. We had to put the whole piece in our mouth or it would fall apart and become messy. So the size of the sushi was a good and bad thing.. A favorite spot for us to visit, though we somehow managed to forget to write a review for it until now. It's usually quite busy, the parking lot is small and usually full, and there's almost always a huge queue of take-out orders lined up at the entrance. We ordered our staples - the rainbow roll, crunch roll, and the baked salmon roll. We also tried out the Alaska roll. The fish quality, as always, is amazing, fresh, and consistent from all the times (probably 20+ times, since 2015!) we've been here, and the price has always been pretty low.
