Honestly this is one of my favorite sushi places to go to! It is inexpensive for sushi, and the fish quality is always good! The location and outside look is pretty outdated but the food is fire The utensils and water is self serve but the workers were pretty nice. Nothing over the top but for the price, this place is unbeatable!

Came here with my friend because we were craving sushi, and we weren't disappointed! We ordered three rolls: Splash Brothers, Orange Blossom, and the Boojee Roll. The Boojee Roll, with deep-fried lobster and real crab meat, was our favorite--it was incredible. Their mixed vegetable tempura was extremely crispy. Even though we didn't eat it right away, it didn't get soggy or lose its crunch. We also opted for the regular salted edamame instead of garlic, which was perfect. The seaweed salad was wonderfully refreshing and had a nice crisp, cold texture. Finally, we had the spicy black garlic ramen with pork belly. We've had it before, and this time it was a bit spicier than usual, but still full of flavor and deeply satisfying. Overall, everything was tasty, flavorful, and extremely enjoyable.

My coworker knows all of the good places! We ordered online for pickup and I chose the seaweed salad and Lion King roll. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. The salad had the right amount of crunch and the roll was very tasty. Kakuna is very generous with Ginger and Wasabi too. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes!

Citrus, Sunshine, Fireball

First time in a long time that a 4+ star rating of a business on Yelp has steered me the wrong direction. I was excited to give Kakuna Sushi a try but it was a let down. The menu looks a bit different than what people have posted from last year; less items shown now. Maybe its their lunch menu vs the dinner menu? There's another menu for AYCE (All You Can Eat) with two pricings; kids based off of height and adults. Ordered three rolls under the Signature Rolls (Raw) section: * Citrus - Swimming in citrus liquid, pieces were inconsistent with rice/fish ratio. There was some sort of pickled radish in the middle? * Fireball - Supposed to have spicy tuna but was non existent. The ebi tempura in the middle was room temp which meant its been sitting out for a while hence the batter was soggy * Sunshine - This roll was decent but again, swimming in some sort of house sauce, and while the fried garlic bits on top were nice, they also add chopped pickled radish/daikon? Kids had a Katsu Chicken Bento Box and a Chicken Terriyaki Bento box. Katsu was good, we asked for no sesame since my daughter is allergic but yet there was a dash of furikake/sesame ontop of her rice when the order came out. The Chicken Terriyaki was chewy and a little sour. I was hoping they would've grilled it but it was pale looking with a light brown terriyaki sauce. Miso soup was extremely salty. Didn't even drink it...even heard another customer ask the server "is the miso soup supposed to be this salty?" Also, the plastic cups they give you for water looked like the old ones I used to get at the local pizza parlor or Chucky Cheese. Dark red and brownish/yellow. In the end, I spent $95 for some sushi that was meh. Don't think we'll be coming back.

Yummy food and good bang for your buck! We enjoy their gaijin and dragon roll, and their sashimi salad is pretty good too! My kids enjoy their salmon teriyaki and shrimp tempuras.

We were craving AYCE (all you can eat) sushi. Yelp found me this place in Fremont. I called and was told they have it at $47 per person. We went there and upon entering, I asked the lady behind the cashier where can we sit and she pointed to the sitting area. There was only one menu on each table. There were 3 of us so I had to go collect menus from other tables. The waiter came by with 3 glasses of water and asked if we were ready to order? The plastic cups are in different colors, one had a cracked and the other one had a chipped. The menu didn't have AYCE sushi on there so we inquired about it further. The waitress came back with a paper like check list with no explanation. We decided this was definitely not where we want to have AYCE sushi. So 2 of us ordered bento boxes with add ons. We ordered 2 spicy tuna, we got 1. We ordered 1 spicy salmon roll, we got none. We ordered 1 California roll, we got 2. We ordered 1shrimp tempura, we got 2. We ordered 1 vegetable tempura, we got none. We also got 2 salmon sashimi that were not ordered. We figured they didn't know what they are doing since our order is all messed up anyway and proceeded to eating. Half way through our meal with one salmon sashimi already gone. The waitress came over and proceeded to take away our other sashimi to give to another table. Is been sitting on our all that time. I told her no and that we will pay for it. Found out after we got home that we were charged for 2 spicy tuna when we only received one. Anyway, this place is scary. Take your money and go elsewhere.

Extended indoor dining space

I have always gone to the Milpitas location due to the small indoor dining space at the Fremont location. I went on 2/24 and there is way more space! I'm not sure when they extended it, but I only live 15 minutes away so I'll be coming here more often. Service was great and the food was amazing per usual! It's really clean and aesthetic looking more than the Milpitas location.

This place is still my go-to sushi spot! I always recommend whenever friends and family want a spot. They've also expanded to fit more people too! No longer a hole in the wall but a staple. The service is great and everyone is friendly. My water cup is always full. The food itself is amazing and I always leave so satisfied. The sushi is fresh. I've pretty much tried the entire menu and I still come back. My favorites for the table is the Kakuna roll and the Japanese nachos. The deluxe chirashi bowl here is the best of every place I've tried. You get a little bit of everything and I mean EVERYTHING including uni & unagi. For the price you pay, it's a steal! I always order the deluxe chirashi when I'm here.

Heavy Rice Packing + Heavy Fillers + Small Fish + Fatty Sauce.

Almost $50 per person for TONS AND TONS of RICE! Rolls were deliberated packed with TONS and TONS of Rice! Nigiri Packed wth TONS of RICE. Deliberate Rice packing. Thin slices of fish on the rolls with lots of fatty sauce and a lot of rice to get you to get full quick. You'll be getting diabetes from eating the tons of jammed pack rice rolls here. RIP OFF.

Cherry Blossom Roll

The best sushi I could eat close to home. I have been ordering their specialty rolls, like Lion King rolls, for two years via DoorDash delivery. I decided to sit down by myself in their renovated restaurant. It was more spacious since they took over part of the Kung Fu school next door. I was seated right away and offered water with complimentary refill. I ordered their Cherry Blossom Roll and The Bay (less spicy). The Cherry Blossom Roll had fresh raw tuna and salmon, and avocado filling, topped with tobiko, which was a healthier option to get and light to digest. The Bay was the opposite, and it took longer to arrive. It was drenched in melted mozzarella cheese and sriracha mayo covering the whole roll. It took me a while to pick up a roll because it was melted and flattened, hence it's like driving through the heavy fog in SF. Not much scallops in here. That's why it's called The Bay lol. I shouldn't order this one because it was too heavy for me to finish, and it wasn't the same as pictured on their menu. Overall, I enjoyed the raw signature rolls and the Lion King. Maybe I'll try the nigiri next time for a treat. Service was good and fairly priced.

Came here on a Sunday at noon. Lots of tables opened, not a good sign. The place is not as fancy as I expected . We ordered different things. Rolls were drown in sauces. Lion king roll was the worse I've ever tasted. Very little salmon which I can't taste and the only thing I can taste is Mayo. Deluxe chirashi is sooo bad. $35 for very bad fish that were not fresh at all. I didn't want to eat it to prevent getting food poisoning. It was that bad. Chicken Udon soup was actually not bad. Service was ok. Definitely won't be coming back.

Nigiri: Tuna, Hamachi, Salmon, Salmon Belly
Vanessa C.

We wanted to support a local sushi shop and try somewhere new and boy did this place disappoint us! The fish was not fresh at all! As you can see in the photo, the tuna looks like it was either seared or marinated but NOPE it was neither! The color was most likely from being old. It even tasted old. The salmon belly was crunchy! I've never had salmon belly with that kind of texture. The two stars are from the fireball roll, which was decent, along with the Pork Belly Bao. Would I try this place again? For sushi, that's a hard NO!

Hellapeño Roll
Emily N.

Good service, nice interior, not too busy for Friday night dinner, & great rolls and portions! Kakuna roll was the best! Butterface cream cheese was too much for the roll, wouldn't recommend. We also ordered Hellapeño Roll with no jalapeños and they were nice enough to take it out for us.

Is this also all you eat restaurants?

No it's not an all you can eat.

Are they open for dine in, i know before they weren't?

Yes. Both location are open for dine in

Do they serve imitation crab? Or real crab meat?

default is imitation, but you can upgrade to real crab meat for like 3 dollars 50! It's worth it, imo.

Are they open for in person dining at this time?

I've seen small tables but I can't confirm if they are open for in person dining. You could get those delicious sushi to a park nearby and eat them.

I've tried calling on two separate sundays and no one ever answers the phone. It says it's open on Sundays but does anyone know if it is in fact open or closed?

I had to call a few times on Sunday evening after 6 until someone finally called me back. They said they are very busy and couldn't pick up every call. Also when it's busy,… Read more

It's a small place, but they were able to position all the tables and chairs so that there's room to move around. Ordering was convenient. We were able to scan the menu at our table and paid quickly remotely. Our food came out on a timely manner. We were able to try the Clam ramen, Hinodeya ramen, and the Tonkatsu. They were all delicious and very much to our liking. Presentation is something i noticed they take pride in. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted promptly, the decorations on the front entrance is what lured us in. The tables all had a tiny lamp that you can turn on and off. All the servers were wearing coordinated attire with the restaurant logo on it. They were all attentive to our needs and constantly filled up our water and took empty dish away when the table started to feel tight/crowded. All Ramen we tried had the WOW bursting with flavors. I highly recommend this place.

Their lunch set has great value, pairing an already filling ramen dish with a heavy appetizer! 4/5 - Tonkotsu Ramen - Savory and well-portioned in each of the ingredients! If it's your first time trying ramen and don't want to go too crazy, you can try this. It is very delicious, but if you've had regular tonkotsu ramen before, I highly recommend trying the Kuro or Aka! 5/5 - Kuro Tonkotsu Ramen - The black garlic oil really enhances the tonkotsu flavor in a smoky, umami way. If you haven't tried a black garlic oil broth, I highly recommend you try it here! You will not be disappointed. 5/5 - Aka Tonkotsu Ramen - My personal favorite of the ramen bowls we all tried here. The spicy level can be adjusted and was exactly the spice level we thought it would be (we chose Level 2). The flavor is a bit more elevated than the regular tonkotsu ramen, likely from the spice that you should not find too overwhelming. 5/5 - Chashu Don (Appetizer) - The rice and chashu makes this its own little meal and is super savory and filling...as an appetizer! This is great to share with your party, and it seems to taste differently from the chashu you get in your ramen. You won't regret trying this! 5/5 - Chicken Karaage (Appetizer) - The chicken in this dish was very juicy, and the portions were huge! The sauce they give also compliments this well. LENT 2026: GOOD FRIDAY LUNCH…read more The first time I ate at Toro Sushi Stone Grill & Bar was the last Saturday of February for my mom's birthday. We had a private room for the party. Out of food that was served I really enjoyed eating the sashimi, which was presented on a platter. I also liked grilled salmon. During Lent I wanted to come back to Toro for lunch. I thought about getting sashimi or grilled salmon when I came back. A couple days before coming to Toro for Good Friday lunch I looked at the menu online. Why pay for the dishes I ate before? One of the dishes that intrigued me was the baked unagi fried rice. However the baked salmon fried rice sounded enticing. Also one of the appetizers sounded interesting was the sashimi pizza. My plan was to order an appetizer and an entree for Good Friday lunch. On Friday when I got a table I looked at the menu. The lunch special listed unagi don. Then I started thinking to myself. Why do I have to eat only fish on Fridays during Lent? Vegetables are permitted during Lent Fridays. I looked at the salad menu and one item intrigued me was the avocado salad. Instead of getting a sashimi pizza for an appetizer I choose avocado salad. Knowing a salad would not be filling I ordered the crispy salmon skin roll. For entree I ordered the unagi don. I'll start with the crispy salmon. A lot of people don't like to eat crispy skin of a fish. I love it. The crispy salmon skin roll is a filling roll due to the sauce, which adds flavor to the rice. Instead of a roll I would like to see crispy skin salmon as an appetizer as it would be similar to a chicharron. Regarding the avocado salad I liked how avocado wasn't skimpy in portion. There's one thing I don't like in salad and that is water. I understand cleaning the lettuce to get rid of the dirt, but the lettuce better be dry instead of water dripping at the bottom on the bowl. I came here for the unagi don. I felt I made a right decision of ordering the unagi don instead of the baked unagi fried rice. With the steamed rice I could taste the eel whereas the fried rice would've overpowered the eel. The unagi don was a filling dish and I believe if I ordered a baked unagi fried rice I would have felt bloated. On this last Friday during Lent I enjoyed my lunch at Toro Sushi Stone Grill and Bar. I liked the sashimi that was served for my mom's birthday party than what I ordered during Good Friday. I can see myself coming here again. Maybe next time I try the stone grill items.
