Chicken Katsu
Trinh V.

We came here on a Saturday evening when the crowds barely came in. Fortunately, we were able to snag a table as a party of two. The restaurant was fairly crowded and there were only 2 to 3 tables left after that if you wanted to sit down and eat, then you would be waiting for quite a bit as it seems. The environment was not only crowded, but very loud, which I'm not sure why I'm so surprised of, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea. That is something I know the restaurant cannot fully control though, but they do serve alcohol so that was a factor to consider. We ordered King Katsu and Chicken Katsu with cheese corn. Everything was a lot sweeter than I had anticipated granted this is a Korean style Katsu restaurant so I should have anticipated on the sweetness. Everything except the Katsu itself and the rice were not sweet, which wasn't my biggest preference but if you have a sweet tooth and this might be your cup of tea. What's stood out to me was the fact that the curry was not only sweet, but it tasted like tomato sauce, almost so it was interesting to try a more acidic version of curry. The mac & cheese and coleslaw did not help with the sweetness of curry as they were both just as sweet and creamy. This is just a personal preference though as I'm someone who has a more savory palate. The cheese corn was absolutely delicious but at this point, I was getting tired of the creamy and sweetness from my chicken Katsu. All of the portions were ginormous and we had to put everything in to-go boxes.

King Katsu has been the new craze in the Newark/Fremont are and it's been going viral on TikTok for having huge portions so of course I had to try them. I love katsu and for me it's been hard to find a place that does it perfect. I've been here twice already and every time it's been packed so I have opted to get my food to go. I have tried the katsu chicken kid's meal (with curry), the portion for the kid's meal is HUGE!! It's actually perfect for me as a regular chicken katsu would probably be way too much food. The chicken katsu is fried to perfection while the still being juicy and not too oily. It tasted like the chicken katsu I know and love. The curry went great with the chicken katsu, normally I would opt for a katsu sauce but this was better. The katsu came with a few sides that include steamed rice, macaroni salad, cabbage salad and pickled veggies. The macaroni salad is very good and not too heavy. The cabbage salad was the star of the sides, the cabbage was shredded so fine and the miso dressing was so delicious. I could eat that alone!! I definitely will be back as this will be my new katsu spot.

First time here and I enjoyed it. The katsu was hot and fresh also good size. The customer service was amazing. Very attentive. Wet clean and good atmosphere. 5 STARS. Come check them out.

Chicken Katsu ($19.99) & Tteok-bo-ki ($13.95)
Rachel L.

Had them once through doordash and was thoroughly impressed so I came in to try it in person; even better! My friend and I shared the Chicken Katsu and Tteokbokki. They also start you off with some miso soup and pickles. It's quite a lot of food and we honestly could have done without the tteokbokki because of the portion. The chicken katsu was juicy and sooo crispy. It also came with two pretty big pieces so it's super shareable. We got the curry sauce hot and it's so so good and actually spicy! Has like a hint of acidity almost like hot sauce. I would personally swap out the mac salad with more rice though. The tteokbokki was very saucy and heavy in the gochujang; not too sweet which I appreciate. Again, a nice kick! Wish there was a bit more rice cakes. The Katsu itself was pretty flavorless so the sauce definitely carries. The place looks pretty casual but very clean. They have a wall of people who have attempted their king katsu challenge. Open decently late. Service was really nice and attentive. I'd be back! Overall: 4.4/5

wow everything here is king-sized, huge portions! got the fish katsu and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't dry. pretty good korean katsu spot and definitely good value if you're hungry!

Crunchy, sticky, flavorful. Yang-nyeom Chicken

Clean interior, plenty of seating. Greeted as anyone comes in. Options to sit down or order at the counter. Friendly service. Ordered the Yang-nyeom Chicken ° Crunchy ° Sticky ° Flavorful ° Spicy, good heat - would recommend My only issue is the size/price. I'd really appreciate if they offered a lunch size option. Half the serving along with some rice for roughly half the cost. I'd definitely swing by again if I saw that option come up!

I really loved visiting King Katsu Land for my first time. The portion size is huge! I honestly didn't think that the portion was that big but it is. You get about 2 portions. Your leftovers can definitely be a lunch for tomorrow. Service was amazing and super friendly. They bring out your food on a cart since the plates are so big. The food quality is great. The meat was juicy and the outside was crispy. The slaw and macaroni was alright but the sauce and meat is what makes the dish delicious.

I stopped by after work to grab something to take home. I opted for the kids' meal. That was plenty of food. It's the perfect size if you're not too hungry. After I placed my order, the cashier said it would take about 10 min. Which is fine with me, fresh is worth waiting for. The restaurant is roomy and bright. Be sure to check out the ice cream freezer if you want something sweet. I saw that they have 2 types of katsu sauce (reg & spicy) I asked if I can have a little of both, which wasn't a problem. So I get my food and bring it out to my car. Knowing that the katsu is fried, I wanted to make sure that it doesn't get soggy on the way home. So I opened up and took the lid off the chicken and set it aside. I get home and am excited to try out the meal. Chicken stayed crisp, because I removed the lid . It was piping hot when I first got it. It came with plenty of rice, a shredded cabbage salad (dressing was yummy), miso soup, mac salad, pickles and sweet daikon. Although the cabbage salad was good, it had a bit too much dressing (next time I'll ask for either it on the side or less of it). The chicken was still warm and crisp. I tried the regular sauce and thought it was good. The spicy is good, but too spicy for me. I'll definitely be back!

My husband loves katsu so we are always on the lookout for new places, since good katsu is scant in the Bay. His favorite is the thick Japanese style tonkatsu and this is the more common Korean style one but the crispy fried fillets still hit the spot! Rating breakdown: 2/2 Stars for Taste -- Of course we ordered the King's combo so we could try a little bit of everything. The katsu was our favorite and you could smother it with their tangy sauce. Careful, their spicy sauce contains ethnic levels of spice -- it's on par with Shin ramyeon. The fish katsu is not bad, it reminds me of McDonald's filet-o-fish. We would give the hamburger steak a skip, it's a bit bland. My favorite was the cheese katsu -- they be real generous with the cheese. The cheese corn is also crazy cheesy and buttery, definitely worth the splurge. Just don't forget your lactase. The meals also come with miso (like the kind that comes from the soup dispensers in Asia), pickled radish/kimchi, mac salad, cabbage salad, and rice. 1/1 Stars for Value -- The King's Combo is $26 and it's enough to share between two people if you're not super hungry. Or order it for yourself and bring your leftovers home. Otherwise, expect to spend about $25pp with tax and tip. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- We've come at opening time twice on the weekend and beat the rush. The servers are super friendly and efficient. There are clean high chairs for the kiddos. Bonus star because it's a kid friendly place and we would definitely visit again when we are craving fried goodies.

Small place, with a few tables and vents still exist of what looks like an old kbbq restaurant. Not sure if venting still works. Served with water and some pickled veggies and kimchi. Service was a bit lacking where we had to call over the waiter or wave them down multiple times. First time at a Korean katsu place, overall the batter felt heavier and slightly more greasy because of it. 3.8/5 - Cheese Katsu - Wanted to try this as I never had a cheese katsu. Definitely tastes like a Korean corn dog if you ever have one. A block of cheese inside a crispy outer batter and meat. Lacking seasoning overall just tasted like a blob of cheese with meat. Careful spicy sauce is quite spicy compared to the normal sauce which is no spice and on the sweeter side. Sides review no score. Coleslaw uses a sesame dressing which is better than plain mayo. Mac salad is only carrots and macaroni which only tasted sweet no tang or other veggies in it

King Katsu

The portions here are HUGE! Each plate could easily feed two! This place is relatively new and I enjoyed the king katsu. I ordered a side curry and a had the regular katsu sauce. If you like Japanese curry, order the curry but I actually enjoyed their katsu sauce which was tomato based with a nice sourness to it. They serve you pickles and a miso soup in the beginning as you sit down which is nice touch. Honestly I can't say anything negative about this place. It's a great go-to spot which you need a hearty meal for an affordable price. No notes.

Ebi Katsu
Cali C.

Here we go, another Katsu spot... but they say they're the King!? Well they did not disappoint, greeted, seated with a menu to read it. Ordered the King Katsu, Chicken and Ebi to round it all out. All was cooked well and had the right crunch to it. I feel like most Katsu is good, have you ever really had a not so good Katsu? Hopefully not! I do feel the sauce is da boss and that can be the biggest factor of flavor. I have had some not so good sauce in my time. There are 2 sauces here, spicy and regular. Both are good with a slight tang, although a bit on the thinner side. The cabbage slaw has that good ginger miso Japa dressing and the Mac salad falls a bit short on the flavor train. Overall a great spot to get your Katsu craving on! Large portions, good pricing, friendly staff and good eats. We will be back!

Tldr super value giant katsu Its hard to tell in the picture but the pork katsu is giant. As big as the average person's face! It wasn't amazing quality but its really good for the price and it was nice and thin so the meat was cooked nicely and consistently. The fish was surprisingly good too, flaky and not too fishy. I would definitely go back. We also ordered cold soba noodles and they were mid. The noodles were thicker and not very chewy but it did make it easier to eat lol.

Since it was my second time here (my first visit left the food tasting way too salty), I was hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, it was pretty inconsistent all around. We ordered a generous spread for the table: Garlic bread, basket, 2 appetizers, Wings, Noodle soup, Papaya salad, Pad Thai, Pineapple fried rice The Food: It truly felt like a coin toss--about half the dishes were decent, while the other half were completely mid. The Pad Thai was a particular letdown, as the noodles were noticeably overcooked. We also tried the basil lime wings, but they really just tasted like plain salt and pepper wings with a few basil leaves tossed on top as a garnish. To top off the strange pacing, the "must-have" garlic bread basket actually came out dead last instead of as a starter. The service felt a bit awkward. At one point, a staff member came by to check on us while still visibly chewing food in her mouth. Overall, between the uneven food quality, the odd timing, and the service hiccup, it just felt a bit cluttered and disorganized. Given that this was my second strike with the food consistency, I likely won't be rushing back.

It was a light taste of pesto and the noodles were had a nice chew. Comes with some mixed greens. Curry pork chop Katsu Don (4/5) $25 Crispy outside and a juicy pork center, and I like that they put your curry sauce one the side so it's not soggy and you can put as much as you'd like on it. Trio skewer (4/5) $12 One of each skewer: Pork belly, chicken, and rib eye steak. Each skewer was tasty but I enjoyed the pork belly the best My friends also got the sashimi (tuna and salmon) and a tuna tartar with fried shrimp chips. I don't eat raw but they said it was fresh and really reasonably priced. We ended the night with a complimentary brownie with a lit candle, ice cream and some fruit! We be back for sure to try all the other amazing dishes and it also looks like they serve brunch foods too on Fridays and weekends. Thank you for making the night fun and memorable.

The soy and vinegar are on a separate table in drink dispensers, you might miss it. I recommend for people who are not experienced with hot pot to do a 3:1 ratio of soy sauce and vinegar with a squeeze of lemon as well as some chili, cilantro, green onion, and garlic. The sesame dressing is great on its own with vegetables. Broth 9/10: I recommend spicy or mushroom broth. It is similar to what you would get at a place like haidilao but much less oily, it is still quite spicy and a good amount of oil.
