Food is great. Reasonable price. Been here since it was open years ago No. 1 dumping in Newark area May be even Bay Area Lovely Good portion in noodle

Despite opening in 2024, the Newark location of Special Noodle feels like they are still getting things down: there is furniture that has not been set (outdoor furniture were crammed inside) and very limited staffing. That said, the food is very decent. The XLB and pan fried dumplings were great and their broths were balanced well, though they are a little pricey for their portions. The dan dan noodles were a much better deal and I would recommend for bigger eaters.

Special Noodle is a no frills spot offering delicious spicy noodle dishes, baos, and a variety of dumplings. I shared the spicy beef noodle soup and spicy chicken buns with my friend. The spicy beef noodle soup was the star of the night - very flavorful broth and tender beef chunks! I wasn't a fun of the spicy chicken buns so I'd pass on that. I'll be back for their dumplings though. I love that they're open late too!

Was hopeful for an alternative to din tai fung and din din dumpling, but nope. Everything tasted like five spice. Nice inside and fast service but won't be returning.

    amazing food

This place was soooo amazing!! The staff was seriously so sweet and attentive. They were SLAMMED when we got there, but they even gave us a little free treat while being super apologetic about it, which was such a nice touch. Our server was the sweetest and so funny, he made the whole experience even better. Even when another table was giving him a hard time, he stayed so kind and apologetic. Honestly, when a place is packed, you know it's good. I love it here and I'll definitely be coming back!!

Food is hot and fresh to order. Really enjoyed the chicken and veggies and bokchoy with mushrooms the most, tbh. Next would be the shrimp XLB. The fried pork buns could have more pork in them. The spicy noodle soup would be a 8/10 spicy, just FYI! The pork potstickers were pretty standard. Service was fast and courteous. Ambiance gives a pure family setting. Sounds Ike it's a new place, it's spacious enough inside and the wallpaper is gorgeous. I'd likely come back again if I was in the area.

I like their traditional dumplings,, their wraps are thin and juicy inside. The pan fried dumplings are good as well.

Ordering online is quick and easy. I got the soup dumplings, spicy wontons and pan fried buns. The wait wasn't too long either. The staff brought my items to me as I waited at the bench. Customer service is really good here compared to Milpitas location. The restaurant was also clean. All the items I got were delicious and portion sizes were decent. The spicy wonton wasn't spicy, add some chili oil to make it spicy.

This is a very tasty place, the dumplings and the buns are the best as the price, and the service, excellent! The ambiance is relaxing and calm and is very organized, one of my favorites places to eat dumplings.

I think Special Noodles is my favorite place for XLBs and pan fried dumplings. The service is good. Ordering on the phone is easy. There are lots of tables. The only down side of this location is there is no air conditioning thus not really inviting to go there in the summer time. The food is good. I tried a lot of the menu. I think the only dish I've tried and could pass are the pork buns and cheesy fried shrimp balls. The prices are ok. Service is good. Solid place.

I have been wanting to go there, seeing their high ratings. Their crispy dumplings/buns are really good but rest seemed okay ish. Their woodear mushroom salad was a little too sour for my taste. Dumpling time woodear salad is twice better. And the kung pao chicken was sweet, is it supposed to be sweet? Service was quick and ambience was good too. But just the food didn't feel very authentic Chinese.

Absolutely love this chain of restaurants, they deliver on comforting Chinese dishes. I always order the pan fried dumplings, the best in the bay. They really know how to get a good crisp. The flavor is impeccable inside and you pair it with the vinegar, it becomes chef kiss amazing. I like ordering the eggplant too, it has great flavor and a good wok hay smokiness. Another good item is the stone soup, with literal hot stones at the bottom of the pot. The broth is light, but the Sichuan is strong and delicious. The service was great, very attentive to our needs and gave us more napkins without asking. The food comes out fairly quick and steaming hot. This location has a fair amount of seats with more in the back in you have larger parities. You can see them making the food through their glass window area. Overall, I really enjoy this restaurant, in particular this location too. It's very centralized with a large parking and right next door is a feng cha too!

This restaurant is a great choice if you enjoy authentic Chinese food. The spicy noodles were the highlight of the meal, with a rich, flavorful broth, fresh ingredients, and just the right amount of heat. We also ordered several traditional dishes, and every one was delicious, well seasoned, and freshly prepared. The portions were generous, the service was friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Highly recommended!

I see outdoor tables in the photos, but some answers show no outdoor dining. Can someone who has been there recently update the outdoor situation?

I've only seen people order to go and then sit outside with their group to eat on one of those small tables. They're responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Luckily there's a trash can right next to that table.

Does the vegetarian food come in contact with meat or fish?

No, there are no contact between vegetarian dishes to meat or fish dishes!

How do you order pickup/takeout without calling? There only seems to be an option to make a reservation online.

If you click on their website you can order online through 39miles

Are dogs allowed for outdoor dining?

    There's no outdoor dining.

Are there any vegan options on the menu?

Yes! Tons! 1. Any of the dumplings or buns filled with "eight veggies " (note: tofu and radish filling has egg)…

It was a bit unorganized and people walking around but not sure where to seat us. We finally got seated and had to wait a while and waved down people a few times to get out orders in. It is okay, I am here for the good, not the service after all. Right? I was disappointed. The oyster pancake was extremely fishy. The rice cake (well not really a cake but inverted sticky rice cup) was cold and where is the pork floss? The chicken rolls were decent, the best dish. I didn't try the fried intestines but was told there were okay. The stinky tofu not really stinky. I think it is because we are in the US and many restaurants stopped selling this due to complaints. I can take that but the dipping sauce was lacking with no garlic flavor. The other items were nothing to write home about. We were waiting for our stir fried seafood noodles and finally waved down someone only to find out it is out, but no one told us. So we ordered pork chop bento as we saw the next table had one and the portion was amazing. Well, someone must have eaten our order in the kitchen as ours was half of the size as what we saw from the other table. The decor was very simple and as with most Asian restaurant it was noisy. But I was there for the food so no problem. But the food didn't deliver.

Most people, local and from afar, come here for their 3-dish menu. When we first started eating here more than a decade ago, it was $19.50. But with inflation surging once again, the price has gone up to $38.99, which is still reasonable compared to other Cantonese restaurants in the East Bay. Our most recent visit took place on 11/15/2025. After attending the Bolo Yeung "You Are Next!" Autograph Signing Event at the Great Mall, four of us came here for dinner. It was busy when we walked in at around 6:20pm. The place was 90% full, with many others waiting for their takeout orders. We scored the last round table. The friendly tall waitress came by to say hi and dropped out a couple menus. (For those of you who don't know who Bolo is, he's the original "Beast of the East" and was featured in movies such as "Enter the Dragon", "Bloodsport", and "Double Impact".) We ordered a total of seven dishes. The quality was good as usual. The standouts were the scrambled eggs with shrimp and yellow chives (soft and creamy inside), Peking pork chops (crispy, meaty pork chops perfectly coated in a tangy sauce/best in the East Bay), and the bean curd strips and pork stir-fry. The tall waitress provided excellent service. She talked to us like family and was very efficient. She's been with this restaurant for a long time and if I recall correctly, she is mainly doing this for kicks (and some spending money). If you want some good Chinese food that doesn't break the bank, this is the place to be. Still 4 stars.

She was right; we appreciated her help and took boxes to go. The food was great and my friend flew back to Connecticut happy. In February, my wife threw a bridal shower and decided to use Good Neighbor to provide all the food. She went to order on her lunch break and met with the owners to choose the dishes. They were helpful and informative. The day of the shower, they helped me load all the boxes into the vehicle, using a cart for transport. The important thing to note was the cost was reasonable for feeding 20 people. The food was enjoyed by all the guests and we had leftovers for dinner! You just can't beat that today. There's a ton of parking and they treat all their customers well. Only thing to note is they are closed on Tuesdays.

Don't let the fair pricing fool you, it is a really nice restaurant!! The interior is incredibly clean & well maintained, it's a whole experience having dinner there. After dinner (if you have children, this is key) they give you a scoop of ice cream, which is included with your dinner / lunch. I took my little daughter there once, for lunch, during daddy-daughter day. She REALLY enjoyed it. They have great meat options & the noodles, vegetables, etc - you go grab yourself, buffet style. So you go load a plate with whatever you'd like to add to your cook pot, along with the meat. They have little soft boiled quail eggs that you can add to your pot - HIGHLY recommend!! They have, if I recall, 4 or 5 different soup bases to choose from. I've had three thus far & they have all been incredibly good. PLEASE NOTE - the spicy one is no joke, I am a spicy food connoisseur & I will admit, even on my "0-10" scale, that red spicy soup base was easily an 8. Interestingly enough albeit very spicy, the red soup base has excellent flavor; in other words it's not just pure pain & terror & capsaicin overdose... It's spicy AND very flavorful. Give these guys a try!! We will definitely be returning, although this has to be more of a quarterly thing. As eating hot pot with little kids is NOT easy for parents - constantly making sure they don't spill boiling soup on themselves. What we did was asked for a bowl / plate; so we could serve the children the various meats, noodles, vegetables after they were cooked... Also to prevent the children from sticking spoons into a vigorously boiling pot. (SAFETY NOTE - the cook pots are directly in the table, built-in cooktops. So be vigilant with small children. The wait staff will give you a tutorial on how to increase/decrease the heat on the burner and/or how to shut it off when you're done cooking. Aside from my concern of the children burning themselves, it is an EXCELLENT experience for kids nevertheless).

I wrote this…read morereview the minute I left Christmas Eve 2025 and left it in my drafts folder contemplating if I should post it, here I am with my final decision: I have never had such lack of help from wait staff in my entire life. I am so disappointed in this place, you will NEVER find me back here again. Alright let's start with when we got there, we put our names on and the iPad said 3-11 minute wait. 25 minutes later, we finally got seated. I understand it was busy but this was just the great start to the dinner we had. We ordered and the food started coming. We ordered two plates of Mongolian beef to go with two plates of shrimp fried rice. We got the Mongolian beef before the rice which was the 3rd to last item that came out when we ordered 11 plates. The table was noticing that the rice was not coming out in time so I asked to cancel one plate of rice with not one, not two, but three different waiters. First two were not helpful since it seemed like they couldn't understand me or just didn't care and the third said "they already made the plate so it's not an option" and set both plates down. I was trying to ask since the rice came out so late and was supposed to go with the Mongolian beef if we could just take one off and there was back and forth without him backing down (why?? Does the money come out of your paycheck??). Anyways so okay we then get the bill and we have a service charge that we had never seen before which was $33 and we didn't see that so we tipped 20% on top of the bill. However we get chased down as we're leaving because they are shocked we left a tip on top of the service charge which now we are seeing for the first time. Completely our fault that we don't catch it before. But we had a 4 minute conversation about what the service fee was vs a tip and from what I gather they were saying it is not the same as a tip. However when we said "okay then ya we are keeping the tip on the payment" they were ECSTATIC!! Like shockingly surprised we did that so we walked away feeling like they lied to us about the service charge being a tip. Then the whole group taking the same car agreed that service fees are tips. I wouldn't know, I've never had to pay for one before. But after this visit on Christmas Eve I am just beside myself with the lack of customer service and then what seems to me is the blatant lie about the service fee not being a tip. I've seen other people comment on the rude staff and up until this point I had never seen it. Now I will not be coming back here and Din Ding will never get another cent from me. This was unacceptable.
