    Pan fried soup dumplings
    Andre C.

Despite opening in 2024, the Newark location of Special Noodle feels like they are still getting things down: there is furniture that has not been set (outdoor furniture were crammed inside) and very limited staffing. That said, the food is very decent. The XLB and pan fried dumplings were great and their broths were balanced well, though they are a little pricey for their portions. The dan dan noodles were a much better deal and I would recommend for bigger eaters.

I think Special Noodles is my favorite place for XLBs and pan fried dumplings. The service is good. Ordering on the phone is easy. There are lots of tables. The only down side of this location is there is no air conditioning thus not really inviting to go there in the summer time. The food is good. I tried a lot of the menu. I think the only dish I've tried and could pass are the pork buns and cheesy fried shrimp balls. The prices are ok. Service is good. Solid place.

I have been wanting to go there, seeing their high ratings. Their crispy dumplings/buns are really good but rest seemed okay ish. Their woodear mushroom salad was a little too sour for my taste. Dumpling time woodear salad is twice better. And the kung pao chicken was sweet, is it supposed to be sweet? Service was quick and ambience was good too. But just the food didn't feel very authentic Chinese.

Absolutely love this chain of restaurants, they deliver on comforting Chinese dishes. I always order the pan fried dumplings, the best in the bay. They really know how to get a good crisp. The flavor is impeccable inside and you pair it with the vinegar, it becomes chef kiss amazing. I like ordering the eggplant too, it has great flavor and a good wok hay smokiness. Another good item is the stone soup, with literal hot stones at the bottom of the pot. The broth is light, but the Sichuan is strong and delicious. The service was great, very attentive to our needs and gave us more napkins without asking. The food comes out fairly quick and steaming hot. This location has a fair amount of seats with more in the back in you have larger parities. You can see them making the food through their glass window area. Overall, I really enjoy this restaurant, in particular this location too. It's very centralized with a large parking and right next door is a feng cha too!

This was my first time eating here and I was not disappointed! My family and I came on a Saturday evening and were able to quickly be seated with no wait time. There are plenty of tables and booths inside. Parking was easy because it is located in a shopping plaza with a parking lot. Their menu has a lot of great looking options so it was hard to choose! We ended up ordering the string beans, chili oil wontons, pan fried dumplings, pork belly noodle soup, chicken chow fun, and spicy soup pork dumplings. The portions were a great size and this was more than enough food to share with the table. The staff were very friendly and helpful with recommendations about the menu. 10/10 would recommend eating here!

What used to be known as Pan Fried Dumplings has now been renamed to Special Noodle. There are multiple Special Noodle locations in the bay, however, I prefer the Newark location. Nestled in a plaza, there is plenty of parking in the large lot. On a Saturday during lunch, there were plenty of tables available. I've come here multiple times and we've never had to wait for a table. Scan the QR code for the menu to order. Our favorites include: -Pan fried pork buns - these are a must get! These are my personal favorite. They're piping hot with a lot of soup inside, a crisp bottom, and juicy filling. -Soup dumplings (xlb) - these are larger than your average xlb with good flavor, soup, and meaty filling. -Salt and pepper ribs - the meat falls off the bone, has great salt and pepper seasoning without being overly salty, the addition of bell peppers and onions stir fried adds some fragrance and crunch. -Green beans or green beans with eggplant - both are great. They're stir fried with great seasoning; a little kick from the pepper. Really delicious and a great veggie to add to your meal. -Osmanthus cake - steamed to perfection, these soft and pillowy osmanthus cakes are a great dessert for the end. Ever so slightly sweet and fragrant! Portions are very shareable and are sizable! We always order multiple dishes and have enough leftovers for another meal. Service has always been attentive when we're here and they are quick to check you out when you're finished with your meal. Have been here multiple times and will definitely return!

Been wanting to try this place, came in on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and sat down immediately, there is plenty of parking in this plaza. We ordered our food via the QR code on our phones. We each got to try different things and we enjoyed all the food that came out, my favorites were the pork XLB, beef friend rice(not pictured), fried shrimp with cheese balls. Food comes out fairly quick after orders are placed. Definitely can share with many people if you order a lot, we had enough food to bring home for the 3 of us. Ambiance is family friendly and there are plenty of seated available.

If you're craving authentic flavors with a comforting kick, Special Noodle on Jarvis is a must-visit! I tried the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and it hit all the right notes--the broth was rich and layered with flavor, the beef cuts were tender and juicy, and the noodles had that perfect chewy bite that keeps you coming back for more. The Soup Dumplings were absolutely addictive--savory, delicate, and bursting with hot, flavorful broth in every bite. Honestly, I could've eaten a dozen and still wanted more. A surprise highlight was the Pan-Fried Dumplings. They came out piping hot with a crisp golden crust and juicy filling inside--something I hadn't really tried in this style before, but now it's on my must-order list. Finally, the Beef Wrap was a delightful finish--crispy layers hugging tender beef with just the right seasoning, making it both hearty and satisfying. Overall, every dish was memorable, and the balance of textures and flavors makes this spot stand out. Newark is lucky to have this gem--I'll definitely be back!

We had such a great experience at Special Noodle in Newark! The restaurant is spacious and we were seated in the booths. Service was very good. You order on your phone through a QR code. Dishes ordered: * chili oil pig ear- super flavorful appetizer * eggplant- my fave dish!! Spicy and packed with flavor. Also a very generous portion * XLB- arrived hot and the soup inside was very good *snowflake potstickers- so pretty and delish!! We got the pork, shrimp and chives. I loved the different textures * pork belly Noodle soup- loved the noodles and soup!! Pork belly came in huge pieces so I didn't have any * onion pancake- this was too bland for me Overall we had a great experience and left very full.

    Sweet Sesame Balls

The pan-fried buns (生煎包) stole the show -- pillowy tops, golden-kissed bottoms, and that satisfying soup burst on first bite. Scattered black sesame and scallion: effortlessly elegant. The sesame balls were fried to a perfect crisp, generously coated, with a chewy glutinous interior that hit every nostalgic note. Then came the showstopper: a dark, glossy bowl of braised meat over thick hand-pulled noodles, blanketed in pea shoots and chili, crowned with a jammy soft-boiled egg. Bold, unapologetically savory, and deeply comforting. This meal didn't ask for attention -- it commanded it.

Just picked up a to-go order.. not only did it take longer than time quoted (which I can kinda forgive because you can see them making your food fresh in the kitchen) but when we got home all excited and gassed up to eat the hot yummy buns, we see a small cockroach flattened in the take out box. Instant deflation. I don't think I need to say more.

When you enter and get seated, you will be prompted to go on the url code at the table to pick your items. While I understand that this is the new way for restaurants to serve guests post-covid, the vast menu items you have to scroll through makes me long for physical menus of the past - but that's just my boomer take for the day. There were a bunch of other items like rice and noodle dishes that looked interesting to pair with the meats, but we were only craving bbq so we skipped out on the carbs. We ordered a BUNCH of skewers, from the standard beef, lamb, pork belly to chicken skin and a fried quail. All of the skewers had the same type of dried chili powder spice seasoning mix so unfortunately there wasn't too much of a diversity in flavor profile but on the flip side, it allowed us to focus more on enjoying the meat quality itself (this is where rice or noodles would definitely help cut through the richness). All of the meats were incredibly well-cooked and charred. It is on the drier side, so be aware if you are looking for a juicier, plumper cut of meat that some other restaurants have. Paired with the Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil, they were super delectable. My personal favorites were the pork belly, chicken skin, and beef. We had some leftovers to go and the staff provided us some extra sauce to go so that's a big plus. Great food here and definitely will be back to try more of the other menu items for the full experience.

I didn't try the fried intestines but was told there were okay. The stinky tofu not really stinky. I think it is because we are in the US and many restaurants stopped selling this due to complaints. I can take that but the dipping sauce was lacking with no garlic flavor. The other items were nothing to write home about. We were waiting for our stir fried seafood noodles and finally waved down someone only to find out it is out, but no one told us. So we ordered pork chop bento as we saw the next table had one and the portion was amazing. Well, someone must have eaten our order in the kitchen as ours was half of the size as what we saw from the other table. The decor was very simple and as with most Asian restaurant it was noisy. The price is really good for lunch, about $30ish per person AYCE. There is simple selections of meat including chicken, lamb, beef, the sort. And there are a decent selection of soups. I tried the Beef Tallow Spicy Sichuan one and It was really well done. They also have lobsters and other seafood upon request, and they were really well done too for the price. The sauce bar is good. It has your typical Soy Sauce, Zhejiang Vinegar, Garlic, etc. If they added a bit more different varieties that would be great, like Ponzu or Hong Kong Soy Sauce. Of the times I came here, I never really needed to order more from the original order. They always seem to put out just enough. The most important thing for me though, was that their ingredients were really good. In most places that I eat, I typically get a bit bogged down/bloated or I might get some brain fog after. After eating here, I did not get that feeling at all and I feel much more refreshed/satisfied than usual. I know this is a personal thing, but that means a lot to me. Of the things to improve upon, I think the menu does need to be a bit more clear. There is a feeling that only the side food bar is unlimited, but the rest are not. The breakfast menu does not seem very clear, as I cannot tell if this is a one time serving or if it is AYCE as well. The rear area with the self-serving also is a bit confusing. Perhaps some more frills to go with it would improve the overall experience. The other reviews stated that the service was not very good; this may have been the case before but the times I been there the wait staff has been very attentive so maybe they have been listening. Jack's Restaurant tends to eat up a lot of the attention, but this little nook in New Park is sorely needed as the mall is pretty dead inside. I will definitely come back just because I don't feel bloated after eating. Please keep up the good work and hopefully what I wrote was able to help you in your business. Thanks! 我一定會再來。謝謝!
