I live in SF, but I will gladly go out of my way to come here on a regular basis. The crab roe and pork XLB (soup dumplings) are so damn good- the soup inside is incredibly rich and tasty. Honestly, they are easily 10x better than the Din Tai Fung down in SJ. I also got the ja jiang noodles. I asked for them without cucumber and bean sprouts (I'm not a big veggie fan to begin with, but those two are my least favorite). The noodles themselves are perfectly chewy, and the sauce is amazingly rich and flavorful. Service is just okay, but that's pretty much expected for a casual Chinese joint and doesn't bother me at all. My only suggestion for the restaurant would be to provide bigger spoons! Can see why people come here!! We were lucky to get a seat right away around 7 pm on a Thursday night. Around 7:30 pm, it started getting busy and people waiting in line. We ordered a couple of dishes but my favorites were definitely the xiao long bao. Din Ding in Union City is a solid spot for xiao long bao, especially if you're craving something comparable to Din Tai Fung but slightly cheaper and easier on the wallet. They have plenty of seating, but I'd recommend joining the waitlist ahead of time if you're coming during peak lunch hours. The quality of their XLB is really good. I'd say they're on par with Din Tai Fung in terms of flavor and juiciness, but the dumplings here are bigger. We usually go for the pork and crab XLB, which are flavorful, juicy, and explode in your mouth with soup. I also tried the pork belly burger this time. The pork belly itself was good, but it didn't really stand out to me and probably isn't something I'd order again when there are so many other things to get. Service is decent and gets the job done. Came here for dinner right at opening. I'm so glad we showed up at opening because the place was packed within 10 minutes and there's a line out the door as we were leaving. The beef dumplings were packed within flavor and was my favorite dish of the night. The hot and sour soup was okay. Mongolian beef had plenty of onions more so than the beef. I finally came back as promised with lots of pictures. Unfortunately, the service has not changed much. They give you menus and a pencil, and you mark down what you want on the sheet and they pick it up. With this type of setup, we didn't really get a chance to interact with our server. Honestly, we weren't even sure who our server was since one person sat us, another brought out water, and someone else picked up our order sheet. Whenever we asked for drinks or anything extra, it felt like we were bothering whoever we happened to stop. My husband cannot eat dinner with just water--he needs a soda--but when we asked for one, it felt like it was a huge inconvenience for the server to get it. The food, however, is really good. We especially loved the chicken chow mein again. The biggest downside was the portion sizes. There were three of us, and the portions felt pretty small, especially considering how expensive this place is. Overall, the food is great and the service is just okay. Most people come for the dim sum, we come for the honey walnut shrimp! It's my husband's favorite place to get it. Most of the food is great, but I would skip the salt and pepper pork chops. Came here with our best friends yesterday and enjoyed everything we had! The salt and pepper pork chop was my fave and my son loved the honey walnut shrimp. I am truly so disappointed in this experience after having many good memories here. I wrote this review the minute I left Christmas Eve 2025 and left it in my drafts folder contemplating if I should post it, here I am with my final decision: I have never had such lack of help from wait staff in my entire life. I am so disappointed in this place, you will NEVER find me back here again. Alright let's start with when we got there, we put our names on and the iPad said 3-11 minute wait. 25 minutes later, we finally got seated. I understand it was busy but this was just the great start to the dinner we had. We ordered and the food started coming. We ordered two plates of Mongolian beef to go with two plates of shrimp fried rice. We got the Mongolian beef before the rice which was the 3rd to last item that came out when we ordered 11 plates. The table was noticing that the rice was not coming out in time so I asked to cancel one plate of rice with not one, not two, but three different waiters. First two were not helpful since it seemed like they couldn't understand me or just didn't care and the third said "they already made the plate so it's not an option" and set both plates down. I was trying to ask since the rice came out so late and was supposed to go with the Mongolian beef if we could just take one off and there was back and forth without him backing down (why?? Does the money come out of your paycheck??). Anyways so okay we then get the bill and we have a service charge that we had never seen before which was $33 and we didn't see that so we tipped 20% on top of the bill. However we get chased down as we're leaving because they are shocked we left a tip on top of the service charge which now we are seeing for the first time. Completely our fault that we don't catch it before. But we had a 4 minute conversation about what the service fee was vs a tip and from what I gather they were saying it is not the same as a tip. However when we said "okay then ya we are keeping the tip on the payment" they were ECSTATIC!! Like shockingly surprised we did that so we walked away feeling like they lied to us about the service charge being a tip. Then the whole group taking the same car agreed that service fees are tips. I wouldn't know, I've never had to pay for one before. But after this visit on Christmas Eve I am just beside myself with the lack of customer service and then what seems to me is the blatant lie about the service fee not being a tip. I've seen other people comment on the rude staff and up until this point I had never seen it. Now I will not be coming back here and Din Ding will never get another cent from me. Located in a shopping plaza so there's plenty of parking but can be difficult to find a spot during peak times. It is clean with a good size dining area with plenty of dining tables. This spot offers dim sum dumplings as welll as traditional Chinese dishes. The dishes are more Mandarin style, rather than Cantonese. The staff are friendly, courteous and very welcoming. Their shrimp fried rice is one of my go-to favorites--perfectly balanced, not too salty, very flavorful, and they definitely don't skimp on the shrimp. We also ordered the shrimp & loofah xiao long bao. This place is well known for their XLB, and this one did not disappoint--fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. We've never seen this place so packed on a weekday, but we wanted to choose a "less busy" day to celebrate mother's day with our mom. The Xiao long bao here is her favorite in all of the Bay Area. Even with the long wait time and crowds, we were seated, given our menus and waters promptly. They did keep forgetting to give us our condiments even though we asked 3 times. We eventually just asked the table next to us if we could borrow theirs. We ordered: - 2 orders of the pork Xiao long baos: 5/5, the juiciest Xiao long baos around. I always gently put them in the soup spoon to keep all of the juices in, then poke a hole in and fill it with ginger and vinegar and eat the whole thing. It's usually really hot, so be careful about burning your mouth, but it's soooo good. - 2 bowls of plain right, to help neutralize the amount of flavor, salt and msg in all of the food! - Pork chops with garlic sauce 5/5: It's fried so it comes out crispy, soaked in a very thick garlic sauce. It's flavorful, and honestly I'm sure this raises my cholesterol every time I eat it. - Mongolian spicy beef 4/5: half the dish was full of onions! So they definately skimped on the beef, but one of the tastiest Mongolian beefs we had because they actually put chili's in it. The beef was tender and not tough to chew. Spacious Shanghainese dumpling eatery, plenty of different options to choose from. We came by on a busy Saturday afternoon for lunch but for a table of 2 we got seated quite quickly. Pork Xiaolong Bao - Very plump and filled with soup and meaty as well. Came out piping hot, and this was great. I would say the soup inside was actually a bit bland, really did need the condiments of vinegar and ginger, but overall a pretty good XLB containing lots of soup and was hot. Enjoyed it, would get again. Fish Dumplings - Great dumplings, great ratio of filling to dumpling and was plenty juicy inside too. Fish didn't have that overly fishy smell or aroma, and had a good bite. Definitely enjoyable and would get again. Pumpkin, Shrimp, Pork Shui Mai - This was definitely our favorite dish and was surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Big pieces of shui mai, every bite was flavorful, it was pleasant to the eye seeing the curvature and plumpness of the dumplings. Great flavor profile of savory, umami, slightly sweet (in the sense of seafood) definitely a must try! I'd definitely come again, i totally enjoy the place over places like din tai fung where they serve lukewarm dumplings. This place has a great atmosphere, many large tables here, great for gathering. The fried rice there can be said to be Jamie Oliver fried rice, too wet, the ham pieces are too large that are clumpy to be together with the rice, and everything else are too salty. The place seems to be always full, so gotta wait a little bit. read more

My friend and I came over at around 6 PM on a Friday and the place was packed and had a 15-20 minute wait time. The inside was a bit crowded and the tables were placed closely to each other. The food was great, their xiao long bao came hot and tasty (what else could I ask for) and their shao mai had the right amount of savory and sweetness from the chicken and the corn. However, I was given a vinegar bottle that was loose which led to me spilling vinegar on myself and around me. One of the workers was dismissive and seemed agitated over the accident. I also understand that it was a busy time and they were dealing with a broken toilet. But that part made an otherwise good meal a bit of a bad experience. read more
