We were seated fairly quickly by our hostess. We glanced at our menu and found three dishes that we had to try! The following dishes were: - Kow soi duck - Ka-pow sirloin basil fried rice - Pad C U with chicken Our dishes took a more time to to prep but was well worth it! The duck in the Kow soy duck was not chewable even though the waiter sold us by saying it was tender. We used the steak knife and still had a hard time cutting it. The creamy salted egg squid tasted more like a curry squid. Did not really taste the salted egg. The squid was cut thick but did not have the texture that he should have. The Ka pow with chicken was spicy despite being mild and did not had much flavor. Chicken was like shredded chicken. However, taking my order seemed a little longer than expected. 10/10 would recommend the Tom yum it was spicy and hearty just how I like my tom yum. Probably my favorite tom yum since my previous place was in Sacramento. I also ordered the Ka Pow & Pad Kee Mao. After waiting 35 minutes, I was about to cancel the rest of my order. Then the Ka POW came out. I boxed up my plate quickly so I didn't get a picture of the Ka Pow. The waiter also informed me I would get rice with the dish, but it didn't come. I did cancel the Pad Kee Mao. I would like to come back to this restaurant when I have more time (I thought an hour & 15 minutes would be sufficient...). We got here on a Friday night and it was packed. There were groups of people waiting outside and we were informed that they had closed the wait-list! However, they had seats available at the bar. Being a party of 2, we took it. The menu has some interesting and not so common Thai offerings in addition to the usual papaya salad, pad thai, curries and stir fries. We ordered the Lord of the sea - a mixed seafood stir fry served with a side of rice and a BBQ pork and pork belly dish which includes rice. The Lord of the sea was our favorite with the spice level (hot) that absolutely fulfilled my spicy food craving! The pork dish was good too, and suitable for someone who may not want a high spice dish. They were slammed with a steady stream of to go orders and dine-in patrons, and our food took 30+ minutes to arrive. The staff was apologetic, and I could see that they were just super busy. I took my parents to try modern Thai cuisine since there are good reviews about it. There weren't a lot of people when we arrived before 1 pm on a weekday. It looks fancy inside for a small Thai restaurant. We ordered Pad Thai, Kow Soi Duck, and Sirloin Nam Tok. The Pad Thai had a good balance of sweet and sour. Sirloin Nam Tok was the best, with fresh herbal garnishes and flavorful sauce on juicy sirloin slices. Kow Soi Duck, their popular dish, was the worst at the table because the duck was mostly fat and not flavorful, unlike Chinese-style. It was not worth $28 to dig in due to the deconstructed plating presentation and overcooked egg noodles in a small bowl, but the curry sauce was the best part. The service was nice, despite one waitress serving the tables. A bit pricey, as long as you don't order their popular dishes for now. Kapow Thai is the best Thai restaurant in the Tri-City area and saves me from having to drive further up 880 to Berkeley/Oakland/Albany. The crispy pork belly and chive cakes are excellent, along with the tom kha soup, for appetizers. Their rendition of pad see ew is one of my favorites, with the bitterness of the crisp Chinese broccoli (not regular broccoli, thank goodness) providing a nice contrast the sweetness of the sauce. Great wok hei and just a whisper of white pepper. When the restaurant first opened, my experiences there were a little uneven, and I found the curries watery, the crying tiger tough, and the portions on the small side. I've been back more than a half dozen times (both for dine-in and takeout) and the kitchen is hitting its stride and the front of the house has ironed out.any service kinks. Kapow Thai Eatery has quickly become one of my favorite Thai spots in the East Bay! My fiancé and I had such a great experience--from the friendly service to the incredible food. Some of our favorites were the Wings of Kapow, which were perfectly crispy with a sweet and spicy glaze, the crispy garlic pork belly, and the Crying Tiger sirloin steak, which was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the dipping sauce. We also couldn't leave without ordering the mango sticky rice, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and you can tell a lot of care goes into each dish. The staff was welcoming and attentive throughout our visit, making the experience even better. If you want to try some unique Thai dishes then this is a great spot because they have a variety of dishes that you don't typically see at other Thai restaurants. We ordered the Roti Prata, Kow Soi Duck, Ka Pow with Crispy Pork Belly and everything was super delicious. I liked how the coconut curry for the Kow Soi Duck came in a separate container so you can pour in however much you want. We used the coconut curry as a dip for the roti as well because we liked that better than the sauce that came with the roti. I did wish the duck was more tender or that there was an option to swap it with a different protein, but overall we both enjoyed the dish. The Ka Pow with Crispy Pork Belly was also delicious. We opted for medium spice because that was what our server recommended and let me just say that they don't play when it comes with spice! The only critique I have about this dish is that the pork belly could have been crispier, but overall the dish was good. For drinks, we tried the Thai pink milk which I wasn't a fan of. The menu had a lot of items I haven't had in a long time. Some of the dishes such as crispy pata are Filipino dishes. The 4 of us opted for the scallops, sirloin with basil rice, chicken green curry, Thai papaya salad and garlic crispy pork belly. Every dish was flavorful and excellent. We couldn't be happier. Service was really really good. Food on the other hand is pretty mid. We had the scallop zapp, crying sirloin steak and the kasoy duck that everyone seems to get. The kasoy duck was good.. but the kasoy broth was lacking flavor. I had high hopes for this dish as it seems like lots of people get it. But it was the best dish we had between the three we ordered. For the crying sirloin steak, I had expected a much spicier and more sour sauce that came with it. It's just steak with a sweet and sour sauce in my opinion. Scallop zapp was good, just wish they had put more lime juice and I think that would definitely elevated the dish completely. Overall, I think this place is pretty mid. A relatively new Thai restaurant making a splash in the Union City food scene! Tucked into a strip mall just blocks away from the BART station, Kapow Thai Eatery has generated a lot of interest from locals with their photogenic, yet delicious dishes authentically representing Thai cuisine. The parking lot is tight during peak times but this strip mall isn't frequented much aside from a few shops and has good churn. You'll find a spot most definitely but the restaurant itself isn't huge so a short wait may be expected. We came for an early dinner and they had plenty of tables for us to choose from. Most of their tables fit small to medium sized groups but larger groups may need to consider reserving in advance. As we stepped in, the staff greeted us and sat us with waters and menus. There were two menus, one for the food and one for the drinks. Both are pretty simple to peruse through but the food menu doesn't have any pictures. The descriptions are pretty good at previewing what you'll get for each dish but I found asking the staff or referring to pictures online did more justice. If in doubt, their chef specials are solid options, but being a Thai eatery, curries and duck are likely your best bet. The drink menu on the other hand does have some pictures and has a few specialty drinks for the sweet toothed folks. Naturally, we ordered a few items to give this place a good try. Gui chai thod (chive cake) - hands down one of the best appetizers I've had of this variety and for me, a must get each time. Each piece is bite sized and can be skewered with the wooden pick they give you. The crispy exterior pairs exceptionally well with the chewiness of its center. The smell, taste, and texture of this dish with the dipping sauce as an added component makes this simple, yet complex chunk of veggie infused mochi a fantastic first impression. Tom kha - creamy soup heavy with lemongrass fragrance and flavor. You have the option to add protein (chicken, tofu, shrimp, seafood) to make this a filling bowl. It comes out hot and maintains its temperature quite well! Kow Soi Duck - succulent slices of duck served atop noodles and intended to be smothered or dipped in the delicious curry. This dish was hearty, presented beautifully deconstructed, and flavorful. A bit pricey for a bowl of noodles but quality is there. Crab fried rice - big portion of fried rice with big chunks of crab. Another hearty dish perfect for sharing and can easily feed 4-6 people with seconds to spare. As the menu indicates, this dish is big on umami. Thai tea - I opted for no ice as I'm not a fan and despite no ice to dilute the flavor, it wasn't too overly sweet and satisfied my craving. Pink Thai milk - unless you're a fan of peptobismol, I would stay away from this despite its beautiful, radiant color The staff were wonderful in communicating with us on what to expect with flavors, ingredients, portion size, sweetness (regarding drinks) and methods of consumption. They all had smiles and were quick to clear our tables. Overall, Kapow Thai Eatery has made a mark in this small city and I hope it's here to stay with its authentic Thai dishes and exceptional quality of food and service. The prices certainly reflect these qualities but as a novice of the Thai cuisine, this place was worth a visit and many more in the future, just perhaps once in a long while due to the prices of eating out nowadays. Came to Kapow for my birthday dinner to close out the month Ordered the Sirloin Nam Tok (part of the new menu), Larb Wrap, Thai green & pink tea, and mango sticky rice. The Sirloin Nam Tok came grilled with Thai herbs, toasted rice powder, dried chili, kaffir lime leaves, and a house-made tamarind sauce--but the meat was pretty tough to slice and chew. Wouldn't order again. The Larb Wrap (minced pork with roasted rice powder, chili flakes, citrus, herbs, and fried garlic) had good flavor but felt like it was missing something. Both the green and pink Thai teas were overly sweet--the pink one tasted like Pepto Bismo.. Mango sticky rice was decent, but nothing memorable. I've been to Kapow Thai Eatery several times this past month; it became my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. The staff was friendly and accommodating; they even started to remember us, which was nice. The restaurant is small and can feel cramped when they are busy. There can also be a line, especially in the evening, so be prepared to wait for a bit. My favorites are Tamarind tiger, Pad C U, Kow Soi duck, and the Por-Thod (deep-fried egg roll). All dishes were delicious and tasted fresh. The duck was tender, and the curry was so creamy and flavorful. The desserts were also great. The Banana in Pajamas and Mango with sticky rice were our favorites. They were sweet but not too overpowering. They were the perfect end to a heavy, filling meal. Came again and decided to stick with some old, Wings of Kapow and Scallop Zapp, and try some new things as well, Pad Thai and Chicken Satay. Wings of Kapow and Scallop Zapp tasted as great as last time. The Wings this time though felt a bit... smaller. The portion size looks the same, but the wings were less "meatier," so it wasn't as satisfying. Pad Thai was good. A little bit too sweet for my liking at first, but once I squeezed in some lemon the sourness balanced it out. Chicken Satay was unfortunately a miss for me. Flavors were great, cucumbers were yummy, and the peanut sauce was amazing, but the chicken didn't impress me. It wasn't dry, but it wasn't particularly juicy or tender either. The Thai Pink Milk was also a miss. Looks interesting, but the taste is exactly the same as the strawberry milk you would get during lunch in Elementary school. What made up for this visit however is the Mango Sticky Rice - it exceeded all my expectations. Loved the sweetness and texture. I was expecting some sourness from the mangos but they were also very sweet; I was pleasantly surprised. Would return solely for this dessert. Service like last time was great. After trying different entrees on their menu, the only ones that I would recommend would be the Crab Fried Rice and Pad C U. When ordered to go, very disappointing experience as the veggies are not fresh, they are very old. You can see it in the color but also the taste. My favorite was the yellow curry with beef which I asked them to make extra spicy. It was disappointingly not spicy but the flavor was rich and coconut-forward. I like that the beef wasn't an extra charge, but the curry was basically close to $20 anyways. The calamari was perfectly crispy but flavorless on its own, and the thai fried rice was good but not worth spending $18 on. Drinks were nice and tasty but on the sweeter side. The place was crowded on a Saturday around 1PM and we waited around 30 minutes. The place is cramped but cozy. Workers were really efficient. Tried this new Thai spot on a Monday evening and was seriously impressed! The service was quick and incredibly friendly from the moment we walked in. The restaurant itself has a very modern, clean aesthetic that feels fresh and welcoming. There isn't a ton of seating, so I imagine it probably gets pretty busy on weekends. We started with the crispy pork belly appetizer and it was incredible. Perfectly crispy and flavorful, and the two dipping sauces that came with it were both delicious and really complemented the dish. For entrées we ordered the Pad C U and the Kow Soi duck. The Pad C U was amazing--light, clean, and full of flavor. They're also very generous with the meat, which was a nice surprise. The Kow Soi duck was the star of the show. There's no waiting area so the line to wait is outside. At least they give you menus to look at while you're waiting. We were considering ordering it to go but decided to wait. Can't say it was worth the wait since service wasn't to par as the first time we went. But that didn't stop us from enjoying our food. Food is on the pricier side but so worth. We've ordered different items to try each time we came. My partner absolutely loves the creamy salted egg squid. The texture of the squid was perfect. We've had their green Thai as well. I would love to come back and try other items. The restaurant is pretty small so it can be cramped and tables are super close to one another. The food was tasty (Khao Soi duck, duck was tender and curry was perfectly spiced) but I'm going to focus on the dish I ordered. Tasty but underwhelming amount. I'd wish they used a smaller plate to make it look fuller or add some more seafood. Service was very attentive. For a Wednesday evening, this place was surprisingly busy and filled which always a good sign! It's a nice, quaint Thai spot that just opened about four months ago, and it already seems to have a loyal following. One thing that stood out right away was their menu; they offer a few items you don't typically see at most Thai restaurants, which made it fun to try something a little different. We ordered the ka pow, pineapple fried rice, chicken satay, a couple of drinks, and dessert. The ka pow was on the spicier side but very flavorful. The pineapple fried rice had a generous portion size with that distinct wok-hei flavor, which I loved, and a good amount of shrimp. The chicken satay came in thick, juicy pieces of chicken breast and paired really well with the peanut sauce and cucumber salad. The service was great! The young lady who helped us was attentive and polite throughout. I also really appreciate when restaurants offer proper plates and utensils for toddlers instead of paper plates. It made the experience feel thoughtful and very family-friendly. Overall, the decor and ambiance were lovely, the service was warm and attentive, and the food delivered. New Thai place opened up in Union City and I was THAI'd up on the fact that the dishes look SO authentic !! Duck Khao Soi: I wish there was more of the soup honestly but the flavors and presentation was on point. The duck was so tender and lovely Pad Thai: very flavorful and nicely cooked since noodles did not clump up Chicken Skewers: the chicken was a wee bit too dry Thai tea: very well made and strong Thai tea Green Thai tea: more floral if you prefer that and less sweet .:: Ambiance / Parking/ Service::.
