Food was great and service was fast! We are vegetarian and was able to get several dishes on the menu. Spring rolls, chow fun, cucumber, tofu dish, cilantro rice roll were all delicious. It's a large place, they say the largest in the world. I heard it used to be a pharmacy grocery store before. They also have a lot of private rooms for larger groups which is nice. Their bathrooms could be cleaner, and there's always a long line. So be prepared.

Be mindful that in the weekend it is a popular place for weddings. This review is purely for its availability on a normal Saturday night. I went in around 6:30pm, there was a price 75 tables wedding in the large main room. So every dining guest was diverted to the smaller cafe inside its restaurant. This was ok but maybe next time put a nice sign up the front. Wait for 45 mins or so already and you see people walking out. But they let another party in first. Cannot review the food since I did not get to go inside. I asked if/when we would be seated, the answer was soon. They then mentioned the kitchen might be slow too, food might come out slowly. Parking was so difficult to find. Maybe also because of the wedding party. Will try again but definitely not for dinner on the weekends.

First time trying out HL. We family and I met a good friend for lunch. They ordered rice(large portion), shrimp dumplings, noodles. All were good. We definitely planned to come back to try their other items. Food came out pretty quickly. The restaurant is pretty big. You can host events/parties. It's clean and has a huge screen on one of the walls. It reminded us of being in a casino. Plenty of parking as well.

Today I came here with a friend to try this newly opened Hong Kong-style dim sum restaurant. My friend is from Guangzhou and is very particular about food, so I was curious to hear his opinion. Personally, I thought the dim sum was pretty good. The dishes I usually order--shrimp dumplings (har gow), rice noodle rolls (cheung fun), and pan-fried turnip cake, all tasted quite decent. My friend mentioned that the shrimp dumplings didn't contain bamboo shoots, which made them feel a bit less authentic. As for me, I really liked the beef brisket and radish soup. The broth was rich and flavorful, but the radish wasn't cooked long enough and was still a little too firm. Overall, the service was excellent, and the restaurant was spacious, clean, and comfortable. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

If you haven't been to HL Restaurant, you need to try it at least once. It is a huge restaurant and packed. Even with the size and number of customers, the service was pretty good. We had to ask a couple of times for a couple things but given how busy they were it wasn't a point of contention. I thought it was acceptable because we did get what we wanted with just a little delay. A couple of good friends took us for Dim Sum and we ordered a variety of items. High Tower Fried Pancake Fried Red Wine Oysters Sui mai Har Gow Fried Shrimp Rangoon XLB Dumplings Baked BBQ Bao Baked Creamy Custard Bao Crispy Roasted Squab Chilled Vegetarian Bean Curd Skin Shrimp rice noodle roll Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce Mango piggy pudding Chocolate goat pudding The presentation of the Dim Sum is really nice, we liked the fried oysters, Chinese broccoli, char sui bao, rice noodles with shrimp and the baked creamy custard bao. Our least favorite was the squab (which is hard to cook because it dries out easily) and the XLB dumplings which ours didn't have broth in one and just a little broth in a couple others. HL is good for large gatherings and families whether there are just two of you or 30 of you. I would go once in awhile with friends. I really want to try the Express take-out. The prices looked reasonable and the food looked good.

Very nostalgic - this place reminds me of many dim sum places I went to as a child. Not mind-blowing quality (this is not like Dragon Beaux, and I still rank Koi Palace above this place too) but for the price you get really solid dim sum. The service also reminds me of what I experienced as a child - efficient! The premises are also very impressive - such a huge restaurant and really amazing collection of alcohol decorating the walls, and extremely solid chairs to sit in, and clean and spacious!! They also have some fun specials. My husband and I tried the special Tianjin black sesame twist and it was HUGE! It was a fun novelty though I likely wouldn't get it again; taste was just ok. Again, very solid dim sum place and grateful to have such a solid place close by!

Came here for father's day dim sum and arrived around 11:45. Parking was tough so our son dropped us off while we went in to grab a number. They have a cool system where once you get the number you can see how many people r waiting for tables for various party sizes. It's a huge place so she said the wait would be about half an hour but it was really faster than that. It looked intimating though cuz there were soooo many people waiting. The food was okay and the service was bad. We waited quite a while to be asked what kind of tea we wanted and had to flag someone down for anything we needed. Maybe service is bad because there is an automatic 16% tip added to your bill. All the dim sum prices were considered mainly "large". Bill came to over $100 for the 3 of us. The noodle dish was large for the price though but the dim sum was meh. Got the high tower fried pancake cuz it looked like the ghost from pac man but it was really just fried and a bit greasy with no real taste. Maybe if you closed your eyes you can convince yourself it tasted a little like a churro. The place was noisy and tons of screens allowed you to watch the fifa soccer games. If you don't want to talk to your party come here where it's noisy and you can watch tv instead of talk!

Had dim sum with my family at HL Peninsula, and it had been such a long time since I last had dim sum that this meal reminded me how good dim sum can be! My aunt and uncle handled all the ordering, and everything that came out was tasty. There was a great variety of dishes, and I enjoyed pretty much everything we tried. The restaurant is huge, with lots of seating and large screens throughout the dining room, making it a fun spot for a family gathering. Overall, it was a solid dim sum experience and a nice reminder of how much I enjoy this type of food. I'd come back again with family.

Tried this enormous dim sum restaurant that everyone seems to be talking about. The place is huge, with giant TV screens and countless tables, yet it still felt crowded initially. Customer service was okay. We ordered the prawns with wasabi-lime mayonnaise 10/10, pan-seared Australian Wagyu beef with teriyaki sauce, 10/10, flavored fried Chilean sea bass 6/10, Peninsula fried rice 5/10. They were bit dry. The portions were huge, and the meat quality was impressive, although the bill adds up quickly. One thing to note: their lunch and dinner menus are completely different, so make sure you're visiting at the right time if there's something specific you want to try. The only disappointment was dessert. When we asked for the dessert menu, we were told they were closing and would no longer be serving desserts. It would have been nice to get a heads-up earlier. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'm glad we finally checked it out to see what all the hype was about.

Ambiance - this place is huge. It looks clean and classy Service - we were seated immediately. We were given an order form which was quite hard to decipher. The list was long but somehow, we managed to order the right stuff Food - everything we ordered were fresh and delicious. The hargow and shumai here were probably one of the best I've had. The hargow was packed with shrimp and the shumai was moist and large. My favorite though were the bbq pork buns. These were warm and pillowy. I was already craving them even before we finished lunch. We ordered crab fried rice, gai lan, shrimp noodle, sticky rice and many more dishes. We loved them all.

Durian pastry - it was served hot. Very delicious

The place is huge! and I want to let you know that there are so many rooms you can rent for special occasions. There are plenty of parking places. We went at around 11am and we were seated right away. Out of our order, what stood out was the durian pastry, which was served warm on the inside with plenty of fruits, and deliciously crunchy on the outside. The beef with noodles dish on sizzling hot pot style warmer, also had the flavor that will keep you wanting more and more. The dimsum small dishes are just ok in my opinion, but the beautiful decorations throughout the place made up for this wonderful dining experience.

Classic dimsum spot I always go to with family on the weekends. Loud and bustling atmosphere always busy here. Huge interior with big screens in the background. Fresh dishes that come out fast and servers are quick. Go to dishes are always shrimp rice rolls, siu mai, abaked baos.

I'm looking for a birthday menu for 20, anyone tried their dinner menu in terms of food choices & quality, service etc?

It is commendable that they offer a variety of dinner sets at different price points to cater to diverse preferences. It is not necessary that the most expensive option is the one that suits you best. I recommend reviewing the entire dinner set menu…

Do they have a banquet menu?

Yes they do. All sorts of packages from regular dinner, red ginger, birthday to Weddings.

Do they do dim sum every day or only the weekends?

    Everyday

Do they take reservation on the weekend?

No , they don't take anymore reservation on the weekend, I go shopping the grocery next door pass though the HL restaurant the waitress cleaning the door told me no more now ! Hope this answer helps you.

    Do they take reservations?

    Yes

Are they doing rolling cart dim sum?

No rolling cart. It is by order.

The staff told her we wouldn't be seated unless our entire party was present. About 4 people were late, but they still seated us. The restaurant kind of felt old and somewhat dirty. But hey, it was my dad's birthday. I wasn't paying for lunch. We occupied three tables and ordered from both the lunch and dim sum menus. I enjoyed dishes like shiu mai, pork buns, walnut shrimp, fried rice, fish, and fried noodles. The sesame balls were tasty, but the service was slow, and I had to follow up on our order. I didn't care for the bun with the hot dog or the other noodle dish. Later that day, my daughter mentioned she had found hair in a pork bun and that her cousin had eaten it. She also said every item he picked up had hair on it, which was disappointing. I didn't confirm this with my cousin, but it would have been helpful to have someone inform the staff. Fortunately, no one at our table found hair in their food, which was a relief. Overall, the food that I ate was fine, but I wouldn't make a special trip from San Jose to visit again...unless it's a fambam family treat.

They have a couple benches, just for people waiting for their order, and a couple small tables people were eating their soup on. Otherwise, don't plan on eating in. They seem to have a pretty decent sized dim sum menu, as well as drink menu but I unfortunately can speak for 2 items only. I tried the super steamed bun and mochi with sesame, which took about 15ish minutes to make. They did give me the heads up about the wait, so I appreciate that. The total for both was a little over $10. They're pretty busy with people coming in and out constantly to pick up/place their orders. They keep the prepared orders inside thermal bags so they're kept warm, which is a nice touch. The super steamed bun was huge, the size of my face damn near. But unfortunately the ratio of filling to bun was waaaaay off. I have to say the bun itself was good and the filling was delicious, but the ratio threw me off. I had to peel off all the excess breading. But if you like those type of steamed buns, this is def a good $5 snack. The mochi was fresh, rolled in peanuts and sugar with a black sesame type filling. It was a bit too sweet for me. I feel like if it was just rolled in peanuts alone, the sweetness from the filling would have been enough for the mochi. I loved the texture of the mochi, soft with a light chew. They take card which is handy. Prices seem about average compared to all other dim sum places. Not low, but not too high. The food is fresh, and you can see them hustling in the back to get the orders out. They're in a plaza which gets pretty busy between the supermarket and restaurants but you should be able to find some parking in the lot. Went there today and was again blown away by how good this place is. This place really takes pride in serving top quality Cantonese cuisine with reasonable prices. We got there at 10:15 on a Sunday and was seated right away. Ordered the usual dim sum fairs from the cart -- hargao (shrimp dumplings), siumai, bbq pork buns, braised tofu skin rolls (my fav!), braised chicken feet, rice roll with bbq pork, beef balls, lotus chicken wraps, and turnip cake. Each dish tasted better than the other!! My husband has gout but he's able to find plenty to eat without seafood. We ended the meal with mango pudding and it was the perfect finish to our glorious meal, sweet and slightly salty, with a fun note. My only complaint is when the bill came it showed an 18% service charge, so we thought that that's gratuity and didn't give much more. Later my husband saw a posted notice on the door that the service charge is for workers benefit and not tip, so we should have given more tip on top of that, but it was too late by the time I found out (husband didn't tell me until after we got home). After trying all the other dim sum places in the area, I still think this is my favorite. We will be back.

I don't understand why customers should be responsible for covering the restaurant's internal expenses on top of already expensive menu prices. It feels inconsiderate and misleading. Overall, the experience was disappointing and not worth the money.

Susie lives in the Bay Area and chose this restaurant. I was skeptical about keeping the cost low as we were having dim sum. I was afraid it would be outrageously expensive and not filling enough. She proved me wrong. Excluding the tea and other drinks it came to $30 per person and that included tax and tip. This was cheaper then the last banquet we had and I actually enjoyed most of the dishes here. The only dish I didn't have was the scallop and shrimp dumplings as the order came out with only 3 and there was 11 us at the table. I'm not sure how that was supposed to feed the table. We arrived at 11:10am and to ensure we weren't late. The parking lot was packed when we arrived. Saying that we only had to go up and down two isles to find a parking space. I have to add that the parking spaces were tight. We had the Honda Pilot and it barely fit in a space and that isn't the biggest car out there. We were told that our table was on the 2nd floor and to go to the side door. We walked around the side and found a door. There was not signage indicating it was part of the restaurant. The right side was locked, but the left side was unlocked. When we entered we were warmed with a sigh that said the floor was wet and to beware of slipping. They had a staircase to the left and a elevator to the right. That was a blessing, I know some of our party wouldn't have made it to the banquet with out the elevator. When we exited the elevator we were met by a staff member with their cart waiting to do downstairs. So the elevator serves guests and staff alike. When we got out of the elevator the staff member pointed us down the hall. We stopped at the bathroom on the way down the hall. Once we found the restaurant we were pointed to the back where we joined our party. We had 3 tables in the back which was nice. It beats being out in the open and disturbing everyone as we stood around chit chatted prior to being served. I felt bad for the table of 2 that were posted right next to the wall near our party. They just had a bad table. All the other tables upstairs were farther away and didn't feel like they were in our space. I have to add that the service was great. They kept coming to refill the waters and tea pot with tea, not just hot water. And we never felt rushed. We had a nice table on the edge of our tables agains the wall that we were able to hang our family tree. We are all 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins and some of us have never met the others before so we really needed a family tree that color coded what generation you were. My favorite dish was the steamed sticky rice in Lotus root, next was the BBQ Pork Buns, third was the shrimp and pork dumplings. Though I don't recall seeing any shrimp in those dumplings.Thought they were big and meaty. My least favorite was the green onion pancake. It just wasn't fluffy and flakey. It was too dense and lacked flavor. And a little greasy. We had 12 dishes and were filled with some chow fun left over. The chow fun wasn't that great. It was filled with beef which was good, but it lacked sauce and the noodles weren't all that.

I came here for a family birthday dinner. It's located in greenhouse so there's plenty of parking…read morearound, even if it means just a tiny bit further away. The restaurant is really big and we sat at a table for 14 pretty comfortably. We were also here on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. The service is your typical Chinese restaurant vibe where you leave a little bit emotionally abused after paying for overly priced menu items. We did the à la cart and easily spent up to $1500. Better off with the family plan meal but nothing was of interest to us except one or two dishes. It took forever to come out and I mean FOREVER to a point where we almost cancelled a few dishes and called it a night, but they kept saying it's being made. With as many people and as massive as the restaurant was, and the price tags, I was expecting a more efficient service. A couple of times we saw our dish being brought to the wrong table and the people going "oh we didn't order this." With all of that out of the way, I am giving them an average score of 3 starts because the food did bring them back up. It was actually really good. My favorite of all things we ordered was their sea bass with string beans. The sea bass was fried crispy, garnished salty and still soft inside. It paired really well with the string beans. We ordered a bunch of other things that I couldn't tell you what the name was in English and they were above average taste wise. Their complimentary dessert however, was mass produced and tasted like they added too much water to it. This was the only one I was disappointed in. I still say this place is extremely overpriced but for a family meal experience and if you ever want to impress a date, why not.

This is the restaurant of choice for my wife's family gatherings, and she has a pretty big family,…read moreso we're here quite a bit. To be honest, Fusion used to be terrible, and I used to absolutely hate coming here. Food was slow in coming, what came out was often cold, the dining room was loud, and service was impersonal, at best. On one visit, half the menu was unavailable, requested silverware was crooked, and numerous glasses, bowls, and plates were chipped or damaged. On another visit, I saw multiple families sneak out of the restaurant, walk to McDonald's across the plaza, and smuggle food back in to tide them over until their orders came. After a while, I wasn't alone in meeting the decree of, "come to Fusion on Saturday," with a groan. However, when HL Peninsula opened in Castro Valley and established itself as a threat to Fusion's business, it served as a wake-up call. Food immediately got better (from "below-average" to "know what to order and you'll be fine"), the speed of service improved, and food temperature became consistent and proper. It's not QUITE a "different restaurant" feel, and there are still some negatives. It's still loud and service could still be better (there have been times where chicken wings have taken over an hour to come out, which is a "should not occur"). However, at least I don't dread coming here anymore.
