No frills, no seating, just takeout. Good solid Taiwanese food. Bento boxes have a decent amount of food for the price you're paying.

I was eager to try 阿美厨房 (MITK Kitchen) when I was in Hayward for my friend's powerlifting competition, as I am a huge fan of Taiwanese food and love a good Taiwanese breakfast. However, this place fell short of expectations by a landslide. I walked over to MITK in between my friend's sets and ordered a 鸡蛋饭团 (egg and chive rice roll). I excitedly took the first bite, but it was bad, and it only got worse from there. Everything tasted off about the fantuan, which was not a good sign, and I've had MANY, the first of which were from the GOAT, Taipei itself. For starters, the rice had zero flavour and the texture was off, which indicated to me it was either cheap American grown Calrose sweet rice or very old rice from Asia. The egg was prepared American style and also had zero flavour. The 油条 (fried dough stick) tasted stale and way too crunchy. It had a sharp cracker consistency, with none of pillowy softness in fresh youtiao. The 肉松 (meat floss) was the only ingredient that offered a bit of flavour, but barely. All other fantuan I've gotten included 榨菜 (pickled mustard greens), but this fantuan was definitely missing its satisfying crunch and umami taste. Overall, whatever I got here was not an authentic fantuan. It had the right ingredients, but it somehow tasted nothing like the real deal. This is by far the worst fantuan I've ever had, the only one I actually completely disliked, and worst of all, the most expensive at $9. When I saw the rave reviews for MITK, I knew I had to try it, but I guess others haven't experienced authentic Taiwanese food, or they've settled for this knockoff.

We Yelpers LOVE a good hidden gem. MITK Kitchen quite literally brings you back to a small ma & pop shop in Taiwan with its small cramped interior, lengthy menu stacked with Taiwanese favorites, and fresh soymilk pre-made cups. This spot is hidden in a warehouse area where you wouldn't expect great Taiwanese food to be found. The cashier was very friendly and fluent in both Chinese and English. He explained the menu thoroughly and walked us through some popular items. Bento boxes, rice burritos, sweet potato balls, the list goes on and on. There's just so many options here. It's easy to get overwhelmed. Jianbing with roasted duck- they made this fresh on the spot in front of us. As soon as it was done it was piping hot. The onion crepe was thin and chewy. The sauce was quite salty but paired well with the roasted duck and lettuce. The wonton cracker was still a little crispy and added a nice crunchy texture to each bite. I asked for spicy and they did deliver in spice. Fan tuan with braised pork- These were premade and sitting in a cooler so i kept my expectations low. The chinese donut was soggy so it would definitely be better if served fresh. The pork belly was soft, fatty, and tender with a nice soy glaze. I feel like this fantuan was missing more texture and flavors.. so for that reason, I prefer the fan tuan at other spots like Taiwanese Eats in San Jose. If I'm ever in the area, I would come back and try other items. They have so many Taiwanese snacks that you can't really find in the Bay Area. Keep in mind this spot is takeout only and cash only. There is a private parking lot right outside.

A very interesting family-style Taiwanese snack shop, filled with reasonably priced Taiwanese bites. The main focus is offering ingredients for customers to take home and cook themselves, but there are also a few ready-to-eat items available on the spot. Friends who enjoy Taiwanese snacks are welcome to visit! 非常有意思的家庭風格台灣小吃,裡面充斥的價格合理的台灣小吃,主要是提供客人外帶回家自己做,也有少數一些小吃是直接可以買現場做好的。歡迎喜歡台灣小吃的朋友來光顧!

Wow, legit family-run Taiwanese takeout-only spot in a nondescript warehouse right off Whipple. I've driven by dozens of times and knew this place existed! A friend told me about it, whose friend also told her about it. Known for their various bentos, fantuan, and other Taiwanese snacks like stinky tofu. Unfortunately menu not available online so had to rely on Yelpers' photos (thanks!). I called the day before to place a group order. Guy said their Facebook page has the latest info on what's available and pricing. Too bad they didn't have Changhua crystal meatball, that's a specialty not often found here. I got a Jianbing with duck and stinky tofu, both which were made fresh on spot. It got close to noon so they got busy and it was 10 min wait. Jianbing was tasty and pretty filling, next time will try regular pork belly. Stinky tofu wasn't stinky at all, more like fried tofu (3/5). Pay cash for discount. Credit card has surcharge. Purchase over $50 also get free soup base thing, can be used for noodles or hot pot.

First time here for the pork belly burrito, which is pretty tasty btw. Soy milk was just ok. -1 for confusing location. -2 for overcharging me $18 instead of only $12 for both my items. Luckily I noticed the price on the wall right before leaving and asked the lady. She claimed it was an accident and reluctantly gave me my change...

This is a great little place to pickup various Taiwanese bento boxes! It's located in a very industrial area and they just have a small store front in the plaza. Most bento boxes are premade and you can pickup and take it to go, although there are dishes they can make fresh for you in the back as well. Most bento's are in the $12-15 range and then the fan tuan/rice burrito is $7 for white rice and $7.50 for purple rice. This place is cash only so bring enough for the amount of dishes you're looking for! All the food is good and tastes really honey. My favorites were the braised pork belly and red pork chop. Jiang bin/crepe is made right in front of your eyes! I just ate it cold but some of the fried ones would definitely taste even better if you air fried some of the proteins to make it a little bit crispy. They also have some steamed and pan fried bao's in the front for purchase. Definitely worth stopping by if you're craving Taiwanese bento's!

Taiwanese bentos and quick bites pre-ordered to guarantee availability and freshness from this small operation, serving patrons all across the Bay Area! We first became aware of MITK via Yelp as we were searching for places that serve sticky rice burritos (fan tuan) and lo and behold, they have one of the most unique and tastiest ones we have had in the bay. In addition, they also offer delicious stinky tofu, Hainan chicken, pork belly and other rice bentos - all of which are flavorful and loaded but the standout for me after trying this place several times is still their purple sticky rice burritos. Their fan tuan are stuffed with crispy fried dough, pork floss, tofu pieces, and pickled veggies. Each one is filling enough on its own but for those with an appetite, this is surely an appetizer to open that stomach. The Hainan chicken and pork belly meats are super succulent and will keep you chomping down for more. The chicken comes with their signature ginger garlic oil dipping sauce which I couldn't get enough of. Each bento is served with rice, veggies and a half of tea egg. It's definitely shareable, especially if you've already had a full fan tuan of your own. Otherwise, a bento on its own is a hearty dish and will fill you up with a balanced diet. The stinky tofu is crispy and pair well with the pickled veggies and dipping sauce. I've had stinkier ones elsewhere but if you're craving it and are already grabbing a meal here, get it! You won't regret it! This little shop is managed by a small team, truly a mom and pop shop. Most times, we have ordered ahead to ensure a quick and complete pickup. The takeout packaging has always been solid and comes with all the utensils you need for you and your party. Overall, MITK Kitchen is the kitchen you never have to step foot and labor in to get your favorite, delicious Taiwanese dishes made with care in small fresh batches and ready to be taken wherever you please to enjoy. This a gem of the east bay and should definitely be in your bookmarks for your next visit to the area. And if you're a fan of sticky rice burrito/fan tuan, this is certainly a place you'll want to try! Just make sure you order ahead!

MITK Kitchen is a great spot when you are craving Taiwanese street food. The Beijing crepe is really good, and the rice burrito (fan tuan) is awesome and very filling. Everything tastes fresh and well made. Just a heads up that they only take cash or Zelle, so come prepared. Also, the menu is a bit limited on weekdays, but what they do offer is worth it. Definitely a solid spot if you are in the area.

I saw this place while looking for Taiwanese food and decided to give it a try. I couldn't find too much info on the store and current menu so I just went in to see for myself. It can be easy to miss since it's just a suite in a non-descript commercial building. Upon entering, it looked like they may have been sold out of a lot of items. That or they didn't have much ready-made foods. I did pick up a spicy fantuan (rice burrito) and a hujiaobing (black pepper bun). The only other item there was a pork belly bento box. The fantuan was stored in a warmer so you can eat it right away if you want. Mine had purple rice on the outside and youtiao (Chinese donut), dry-pressed tofu, egg, and some sort of vegetables in the inside. I couldn't tell what the spice was from, but there was a small kick of heat which complimented the dish well. I enjoyed the fantuan as a whole, though the youtiao was a bit overcooked and hard. I think the ratio of filling to rice was just right though; they didn't use an absurd amount of rice. The hujiaobing was larger than I expected. At a glance, it had a nice top and appeared to be baked well. It's definitely different from the street food version but still tasted good. The pork was juicy and flavorful and even had whole pieces of pork belly. The only thing I would say is a downside is the bottom was a bit soggy and collapsed after a few bites. The store is cash and Zelle preferred. I believe they do accept card but there's a fee. They also advertised other food items such as stinky tofu but they didn't have it in hand. It may be better to call ahead to see what they have! It's really handy to be able to grab and go though.

The rice cake (well not really a cake but inverted sticky rice cup) was cold and where is the pork floss? The chicken rolls were decent, the best dish. I didn't try the fried intestines but was told there were okay. The stinky tofu not really stinky. I think it is because we are in the US and many restaurants stopped selling this due to complaints. I can take that but the dipping sauce was lacking with no garlic flavor. The other items were nothing to write home about. We were waiting for our stir fried seafood noodles and finally waved down someone only to find out it is out, but no one told us. So we ordered pork chop bento as we saw the next table had one and the portion was amazing. Well, someone must have eaten our order in the kitchen as ours was half of the size as what we saw from the other table. The decor was very simple and as with most Asian restaurant it was noisy. But I was there for the food so no problem. But the food didn't deliver.

I saw the reviews and at first I was skeptical because of the great reviews. Anything above 3.5 for dimsum places has me questioning whether it's legit or not, but this place was surprisingly great! Local people know where it's at! It seems like a small size family owned restaurant, not as big as the usual dimsum places like Koi Palace. There's a good number of tables inside, but not quite made for parties bigger than 6 because it could get squishy. Also, because it's a small shared plaza (mostly restaurants at the corner where Joyful is located at), there's a lot of shared seating area outside as well for people who just want takeout. And this was kindly advised for people who didn't want to wait for indoor seating. We came around 11AM for an early lunch right after hiking around Coyote Hills and there was a small wait already. For my party of 5, I'm guessing we waited for 15 mins or so. Not too long, just enough time to look through the menu and decide what to eat. We ended up getting: - Shiu Mai - Chicken Feet - Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf - Steamed Bean Curd Skin - Fun Gao Dumplings - Black Sesame Dumpling - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce - Cucumber - Pan Fried Turnip Cakes - Fried Taro Puffs - Baked BBQ Pork Rolls - Pan Fried Pork Vegetable Buns - Pan Fried Turnip Cakes ...So quite a bit, but for a table of 5 this is a pretty reasonable amount. Of all the things I've tried I have to say my favorite few items were: 1) Fried Taro Puffs because filling to crust ratio is perfect. It had plenty of yummy filling. Because it's made fresh, it wasn't too oily either. It had a really nice, satisfying crunch when you bite into it. My mom, whose quite a picky eater had high praises for this one! 2) Baked BBQ Pork Rolls. The skin was flakey and it almost reminded me of a pineapple cake if it was made fresh. The skin is a little buttery and there's just enough BBQ Pork to give it a hint of sweetness. 3) Chicken Feet. It was saucy, but not too sweet. I can't pinpoint what I liked about it exactly, but sometimes chicken feet can have a weird smell or too much black bean in it. I think because this was made fresh, it was just enjoyable as is. 4) Chinese Broccoli because they're pretty generous with the amount and there isn't an overwhelming amount of oyster sauce mixed in. 5) Black Sesame Dumplings! This was a nice slightly sweet dessert to end to our meal. There was plenty of grounded peanuts and coconut shreds. The glutinous layer wasn't too sticky that it sticks to your teeth. Although I think they could have put in more black sesame filling, I think they made this pretty well and it was really reminiscent of some of the desserts I had in Taiwan. Service was really great. Although I think there's a little more foot traffic than they could handle, they handled the crowd fairly well and very politely. They sat people in tables in the same order that people came in (this doesn't always happen with bigger dim sum places). All the dim sum was freshly made and although I didn't describe all the dishes, I think they were all generally great. There's just some I'm more biased to and some I enjoyed more. I'm so glad that this was a great turnout for my family! We all really enjoyed Joyful Dimsum!
