A hidden gem, quite literally. This place is hidden in a lot with a lot of car shops. They sell a variety of Taiwanese foods, primarily street foods. Looks like a lot of people ordered ahead, but they have things available for walk-in as well. There are also pre-made bentos for take out. Since the place is located in a small lot, there are no seating available. This place is essentially togo only. I did, however, see people just get food and eat in their car. Foods: - Rice Burrito (Fan Tuan?) - I got the one with pork belly. It also came with mustard cabbage, Chinese donut, veggie floss, pickled radish and an egg. This thing was bomb! Super tasty and filled to the brim with goodies. There is also a spicy version of this that was really good as well. - Garlic Beef Shank bento - A bit on the salty side for me, but this really good! The day before, we pre-ordered a pork chop bento and pork belly rice burrito. For hot food, pre-ordering is essentially mandatory as there is almost nothing being sold on the fly. We were also able to pick up some frozen zongzi as well as sweet peanut soup from the fridge. There is a discount for paying in cash. There is no seating area or microwave, so we put the zongzi in our ice pack and ate the rest of the food in our car. The food is definitely not hot but it's still a bit warm. Really good and authentic fan tuan, with lots of meat options. The fried dough in the middle remained crispy and flavorful. They use vegetarian pork floss for their originals so that is the effective vegetarian option. On the downside, there is no sweet sugary fan tuan option. read more

I saw this place while looking for Taiwanese food and decided to give it a try. I couldn't find too much info on the store and current menu so I just went in to see for myself. It can be easy to miss since it's just a suite in a non-descript commercial building. Upon entering, it looked like they may have been sold out of a lot of items. That or they didn't have much ready-made foods. I did pick up a spicy fantuan (rice burrito) and a hujiaobing (black pepper bun). The only other item there was a pork belly bento box. The fantuan was stored in a warmer so you can eat it right away if you want. Mine had purple rice on the outside and youtiao (Chinese donut), dry-pressed tofu, egg, and some sort of vegetables in the inside. I couldn't tell what the spice was from, but there was a small kick of heat which complimented the dish well. I enjoyed the fantuan as a whole, though the youtiao was a bit overcooked and hard. I think the ratio of filling to rice was just right though; they didn't use an absurd amount of rice. The hujiaobing was larger than I expected. At a glance, it had a nice top and appeared to be baked well. It's definitely different from the street food version but still tasted good. The pork was juicy and flavorful and even had whole pieces of pork belly. The only thing I would say is a downside is the bottom was a bit soggy and collapsed after a few bites. The store is cash and Zelle preferred. I believe they do accept card but there's a fee. They also advertised other food items such as stinky tofu but they didn't have it in hand. Soul satisfying Taiwanese soul food. Will definitely put you in a food coma, but it's not heavy or overly seasoned. I would call it elevated home cooking, But I definitely wouldn't be able to make any of it from my kitchen. I see why this spot is such a gem. Next to the storage lot - don't go into that parking lot like we did. Very busy on a Sunday at noon. Glad I called ahead to place an order yesterday. The number listed on Yelp is good. First time trying stinky tofu and they make that fresh while you wait - smells stinkier than it tastes. Really enjoyed the red pork - comes with fish cake, preserved veggies and corn/ham. Clean, tiny place with tons of ready to eat food to go! I was pumped that I finally got to try out this place. I got the chicken feet, rice cake with shiitake mushroom and shredded pork, cabbage bun, raw fried cabbage bun, and purple rice roll. The winner was the rice cake, thank goodness I got 2! I haven't had that since I was in Taiwan years ago. The chicken feet were good, but just a little spicy for me. I love that the rice roll had stewed egg in it. The service was super amazing! A Taiwanese hidden gem in the bay area that is absolutely worth the visit! The way to pre-order is a bit confusing but it's worth figuring out since items can sell out fast if you don't come early. For best deals, stop by on Wednesdays when they offer a discount. Their fantuan and lunch boxes are fantastic - fresh, flavorful and made with care. Their mouth-watering chicken is another standout, with the right balance of spice and tenderness. They also roll-out seasonal specials like Buddha jumps over the wall, rice cake and radish cake during Chinese New Year and rice dumplings during Dragon Boat Festival, which really add to the authentic experience. read more

The fan tuan (rice burrito) was so yummy! We got: * white rice burrito with pork belly * purple rice burrito - original Both fan tuans were flavorful and packed with fillings. I preferred the purple rice burrito (fillings include boiled egg, youtiao, tofu, pork floss and pickled vegetatables) while my partner liked the pork belly better (same as original but pork belly instead of egg). I thought the pork belly was too fatty, but it tasted good regardless. The total came out to be $14.50 (we paid by cash). My partner and I were overwhelmed with the traditional Mandarin menu but we were able to secure the goods. The lady speaks English and the prepackaged hot foods also have English labels. The location is very lowkey and there was no space to eat there. Fan tuan can be messy so be careful as you enjoy them! Make sure to go early for more options. Ok I've been missing Taiwanese food for sooooo long. And it only made sense it would be from a take out only place!! Flavors are perfection, so nostalgic. 2 bento, 3 fan tuan, 3 xian bing = $59 cash only (or Zelle). Bento: rice is perfect Japanese short grain, and the rou zao person was not stingy (!!!!!), even the fish cake was seasoned so nicely I may have skipped the pork if I wasn't paying attention. Broccoli is also surprisingly al dente and perfect. Fan tuan: I prefer the hard boiled egg one over the pork belly, even if the belly sounded really good in burrito form. The sweet and salty and texture differences were perfect. Falls apart a little but I think all fan Tuan places around the Bay Area get that review. Haven't tried the spicy versions yet. Xian bing : I think I got the last 2 and I was only #5 in line?? The rest was probably pre ordered and set aside. No stinky tofu today, still getting stinky apparently. Short Story: A good place for Taiwanese street food. Long Story: I've been coming here for several times now along with their "night market events." I've gotten their rice burritos, stinky tofu, black pepper buns, and more! The Hayward location is more of a small storefront. You can only order take out and there's no dining area. It's also better to call a day or two ahead and pre-order. I really like their rice burritos and the stinky tofu. Ever since China Bee in San Mateo closed there's no good place for tofu anymore. As a Taiwanese person myself, I am always on the hunt to find amazing Taiwanese food in the Bay Area. Nestled in an industrial park of the East Bay is this gem where (in my opinion), some of the best Taiwanese food is produced. This place is not a restaurant but more of small store with hot foods for sale. Stepping into the store brings back nostalgia of being in a small mom and pop shop in Taiwan. The classic Taiwanese snacks bring back memories. Parking is easy and right outside the store. I found this place while searching on Yelp (go figure haha) as I have been craving a fan tuan for the longest time - especially a purple rice fan tuan. They have ready made hot foods for sale: fried red pork belly bento (紅糟肉便當), pork feet bento (豬腳便當), braised pork chop (滷排骨), bawan (肉圓), spicy wontons, Hainan chicken, and many more classic Taiwan dishes. Their purple rice fan tuan is really popular so would suggest calling in to pre-order for pickup before heading to the store. Service was simple, there is someone upfront that'll bring out your order - helps if you know how to speak mandarin. I ordered two purple rice burritos and the fried red pork belly bento - and let me tell you, both dishes were AMAZING. The closest to Taiwan taste I have had in the Bay Area. The purple rice burrito has the BEST chewy purple rice and their vegetarian filling was seasoned so well. I was ready to go back for more the second I had my first bite. We picked up braised pork belly rice burrito, pork chop rice burrito, fried red pork belly bento, fried chicken leg bento, braised pork belly bento, and pork pancakes. Customer service was good. Hubby didn't know what to do when he walked inside the store but one of the employees, who spoke English, assisted him. As for taste, I thought everything tasted average. I found out about this Taiwanese takeout food place from my sister-in-law. It's in an area with a bunch of warehouses and we drove slowly to find their storefront/entrance. They have parking stalls right in front of their entrance. My sister-in-law did a pre-ordered and we got a few things to share. My favorites were the fan tuan and the sheng jian bao. The fan tuan was still warm and the filling in the center had ground pork, preserved vegetables, and Chinese donut crispies. The sheng jian bao was made fresh, it was hot, so we let it cool down before eating it. The bao was super juicy so be careful on the first bite. It was filled with pork and the outside of the bao was cooked perfectly. The inside the of store is also stocked with Taiwanese snacks, instant noodles, and toys. The lady in the shop was friendly and she explained what some of the items were to me in English since I don't speak Mandarin. We bought some chilled pudding and a few varieties of instant noodles to try since we don't get those products in Hawaii. I was craving a Taiwanese rice burrito and discovered this was nearby me. I forgot to check their opening hours and had assumed they opened early so I arrived disappointed that they were closed but the owner happened to see us outside while they were prepping and she opened the doors for us and let me order! The owner was super sweet and friendly, she talked to us about her food and I mentioned that I was planning to go to Taiwan soon so she gave me some suggestions. And luckily I was able to get my two rice burritos which were both pretty good, although I would say I liked the one at Xiaoman in South Bay more. I definitely want to come back to try their milk tea and their pepper bun, among other things! I told my friend about it the same day since she loved the pepper buns in Taiwan and they were sold out by 1! Definitely must go back to try it. This place is hidden in the middle of nowhere. It's next to some warehouses with parking available. Even though the location of the store doesn't seem like much, there was a line of people waiting outside. There is a way to reserve your order on their Facebook group online cuz their more popular items like the fan tuan (rice balls) get sold out later in the day. We pre-ordered some fan tuan, oyster misua noodles, and stinky tofu. There were also premade dishes in the store that you can choose from. We got the Hainan chicken rice and sticky rice from there. There was a fridge on the side of the store that has additional items. The inside of the store isn't big so most people wait outside for their turn. Their menus are also mostly in Chinese which isn't a deal breaker if you can speak Chinese or if you want something that is premade in the store. We took our items to go since there is nowhere to eat there. They were nice enough to leave the lid of the stinky tofu open so it doesn't get soggy. It was definitely very pungent but we all like the smell of it. We haven't found a lot of places with good crispy stinky tofu outside of Taiwan. Since the lid was left open, the tofu did get a bit cold by the time we arrived home, but definitely reminds us of Taiwan! The fan tuans all have a lot of filling and not too much rice. Very good ratio and tasty. The other items were very solid choices and great if you're craving those particular items. This is a great place for authentic Taiwanese street food! read more

The hole in a wall place has superb authentic Taiwanese food! Yes, they don't have indoor or outdoor seating, but the food is so good that it's worth the effort to takeout and eat at home or at the park when the weather is great. A tip now that I've been there once, GO EARLY or order ahead. They sell out quickly, especially the extra good stuff. We got: 1) Hainan chicken rice - the chicken is so juicy and tender, and goes well with the flavored chicken rice with condiments. This is GOOD chicken rice. 2) Red pork chop rice - if you know, you know. This is delicious and reminds me of the red pork chop in Taiwan! 3) Rice burrito (rice on the outside with assorted vegetables, braised egg, and Chinese doughnut) - oh so so good and it hits the spot as I was reminded of how much I miss this when I first had it in Taiwan. Haven't found anywhere else that makes these and especially when it is made so delicious! We will be back and yes, will be there early to get the other items that we sadly couldn't get our hands on. read more

I know Taiwanese people are overly polite and all but... I've tried most of their items several times and I'm still not sure why no one has mentioned how high their prices are (inflation or not) for how inconsistent their rice ball quality is. Their rice balls (~$8) do have good filling but is very inconsistent now that they've increased production and the boss lady isn't always there. Three times now I've thrown away partially finished ones due to stale ingredients or the fried dough stick being way too over fried or under fried. Or the rice being too dry. Many other items they sell don't taste good after it's been packed in a box (ie fried pork chop and mee suah). The vermicelli noodles tasted like boiled dried bonito flakes and was so soggy I threw away the whole container. Items aside from rice balls cost roughly $12-15 while the imported instant noodles are like $5 a pack. The Hainan chicken is not bad but they don't even put scallions in the ginger sauce like they once did. The frozen stuff is okay too, overpriced, but more reliable than other stuff. Satisfies a bit of nostalgia but aside from the stinky tofu(!!!!!) not much else is worthwhile anymore IMO Their stinky tofu, however, is like no other, the boss lady ferments it the old fashioned way. Not with chemicals additives like most shops. Stinky tofu is 5 stars. read more

It's basically a shop/warehouse where you go pick up Taiwanese food. It's in a warehouse district. There see no shop around. When I was there everyone have their masks on, staff, customers, everyone. The "store" area is very small maybe 150 sq feet most of the food is kept in the warehouse anyway so you are only there to place and pay for your order. They can serve 2 costumers at a time so there is a line outside the door. Staff is efficient and friendly for how busy they are. It's dragon boat festival season right now so they're very busy. everybody wants the Chinese tamale 粽子. They still have them so get them while you can. Authentic Taiwanese food in The east bay what's not to love. Oh, I tried calling them but they didn't pick up. After seeing how busy they are I understand why. Heard about this place from a friend and had to try. I tried calling in my order for immediate pick up on Thursday at 12pm but everything was already sold out. I think they mostly do preorders. I preordered 2 original fantuan, 2 purple rice fantuan, 2 pork chop bento and their daily special, for Friday, was the boneless Hainanese chicken rice. The location is in an industrial park. Pickup the next day was simple and they take cash and some epayments. Food was really delicious but don't expect it to be piping hot. May need to reheat or just eat warm/room temp since it's freshly made earlier each day. We'll be back. Kids loved all the options we ordered. read more

More 3.5 stars Glad to see a taiwanese place close by. Ordered a few different rice plates to try. Staff were nice and helpful. Was our first time. 3 out of 4 plates had bad broccoli so that takes out a star. When we opened it I smelled something weird and after sniffing them all it was the broccoli. 1 plate had good broccoli. I don't care much about broccoli so that ended up in compost. My husband had the good broccoli. Will come back for the pork chop and braised pork belly. Both had a nice flavor to it. For the braised pork belly I wish it had more meat and thicker slice. The red yeast pork was just ok, needed more flavor. The other thing for the fried food is that the rice is swimming in oil. Will come back and try some of their other items. read more

One of the best Taiwanese "fan tuan" I've ever tasted and I'm Taiwanese originally from Taipei! The pork belly was so flavorful and the vegetable preserves is cooked with bean curd. Lots of stuffing and fresh made! I got lucky and went to pick up on the day of when Maxine had extra leftovers (call in the morning to ask because she sells out easily). You must go to the Facebook website (request to get an approval) so that you can place an order directly by Wednesday for pick up on the weekend. She offers a variety of dishes and treats, but everything is in Chinese. (I can't read Chinese so Maxine offered to translate for me if I sent her a PM.) While at the store which is located in an industrial business/office center of Hayward, you will find imported snacks made in Taiwan. Follow the preorder instructions per the 12/22 review. I drove by the location since there wasn't a tent (I didn't get there until after 1pm). There are two driveways to the U-shaped complex. The little shop is #18 and along the east side. Since I don't read Chinese, I used the Facebook translation. Some of it didn't make sense so I used Google Translate (which is what the son uses to create the online menus, I found out). I still wasn't quite clear on how it worked for specials, and put in a preorder later than intended (afternoon before). It was acknowledged but with the busy morning, she forgot (I didn't follow up on not getting a pickup number, so partly on me). They made it fresh for me since I was willing to wait. That's ok, now I know. I ordered Os (original fan tuan/rice roll/rice ball, spicy), an Op (with pork, which was listed in the other locations special menu for that day), and since there was some spicy numb chicken left so I got one of those too. Everything was good. The Os was just spicy enough for me; I had saved that one for an on-the-road trip the next day so the rice was a little hard by then and I didn't have a way to heat it up, but it was still good. The chicken was tastier than it looks. I learned from her that she doesn't put a lot of the numbing spice in (she doesn't like that she can't taste anything else if there's too much), and I actually couldn't detect it. It wasn't that spicy (the spice happened to be in the last part of the half I'd saved for the next day's dinner), but it was really tasty all the same, and the chicken was very tender.
