Good place for hot plate teppanyaki. You can order through QR code and you can add toppings like cheese and egg. Food came out pretty quickly and service was pretty good. Plenty of seating during opening. I would come back.

Visited this place as I was recommended by a local and was working nearby and so glad I did! The food was food, flavorful, and a huge portion that filled me up. The service was good and fast and the food came out quickly and hot. The ambiance was nice and maybe a little more upscale than typical Hawaiian bbq place. So overall I would highly recommend this place as a great place for lunch !

I was a little unimpressed. The menu has a lot of variety, but the two dishes we got were mediocre at best. Pretty salty too... The Garlic Shrimp Plate is decently sized, but didn't have much complexity in flavor. Tasted like shrimp I could make at home with garlic butter unfortunately. Mac salad was pretty good though! The Pepper Beef Sizzling Plate was average. Not nearly as tasty as other competitiors, like Sizzling Lunch and Pepper Lunch. The portions were quite decent though!

Tao's fresh serves sizzling plated food usually with beef & rice. It's similar to the likes of Pepper Lunch, I felt like having one so I came by today with my wife. We got: Curry cheese rice (Sizzling plate) - 2 / 5 The cheese is on top of the rice while curry powder is being poured throughout your plate. The beef is on the bottom when it is being served hot on the plate for all of it to be blended and cooked. My biggest issue with this dish was that it was overly salty. There is no elaborative details to the dish. They set up the meat, place the rice correctly in the middle, all of the powder for curry/cheese/and salt should be portioned correctly then done. Everything was to be cooked on the sizzling plate, there's not much else they need to work on. How can they even get the salt proportion wrong as this was a dish being advertised as one of their signature on the billboard on the wall? I was a little puzzled. Salmon beef rice (Sizzling plate) - 4 / 5 My wife thought it was okay. The sauce and salt were portioned okay however she did complain about the fish being a little flavorless. There were sauces on the table to where you can add yourself, so 4 / 5. Service - 4 / 5 They were getting busy but they tried the best to accommodate our basic requests for napkins. It was a plus that they had a self check out option under the QR code ordering for their guests. This is a nice touch where I think more restaurants should implement. What do I think about this place? Well, meh. Seasoning on any dish should be standardized in a restaurant that has been around for some time. Having a dish too salty is really not acceptable. Customers really don't have a lot of alternative to make it "less salty" unless more food is given. One thing they may want to consider is putting the curry piece in a liquid format instead of just pure seasoning so customers can add as much or as little as they wish. Would I come back? It's a toss up, but I'm leaning toward a no unfortunately.

We have visited this spot a few times when we are around the area and looking for a filling lunch. Used to visit Sizzling Lunch and Pepper Lunch for this type of sizzling plates but we honestly prefer here now because it also happens to serve hawaiian food too which is a big plus. We have tried sizzling plates with salmon, beef, and pork and combined with with either rice or curry udon (my personal fave). The garlic butter is extra I believe which kinda sucks but the meat and curry seasonings have a good amount of flavor. Also have tried garlic shrimp here and was quite good even if it isn't as good as some other hawaiian restaurants we have tried in the Bay. A solid lunch spot for sure.

Fair prices and straightforward spot. The sizzling beef rice was cool but I wish it had more flavor -- you have to add the sauce yourself, but without it there isn't much flavor of its own.

Came here randomly, I just ordered a few things? Despite waiting an unusually long time, the food finally came out. It wasn't bad, it just felt lacking a little? For the first time in a while, when I was paying I didn't want to tip much due to the wait times. One of the employees tried to "guilt trip" me into tipping more? What on earth? People still do this around here? You bet I'm not coming back

Great for grabbing lunch with your friends or partner. They also offer takeout if you're in a rush. We came at the tail end of lunch rush so we were told to sit at any open table. Every corner of the table has a QR code posted on it which is thoughtful so everyone isn't fighting to scan it. Although it wasn't busy I noticed food was a little slower getting out at this location than another Tao's Fresh that I've been to before. I got the salmon beef rice and it was pretty good after adding the sauces and seasonings that were already on the table. My friend got the seafood pasta which looked pretty good and it was interesting to see pasta on the sizzling plate. They made sure have his sauce on the side for him to pour over his pasta. What I do like about this location is the size. The space is pretty large and the tables aren't cramped together so you won't need to worry about maneuvering around too much. They also keep the space pretty clean which is always a bonus.

The ordering system is quick and efficient. I have been a few times and they always get our order correct. You can choose a sizzle plate with rice or udon noodles along with a robust selection of Hawaiian dishes to choose from. I enjoy having the option of ordering a milk tea drink with various topping choices with my meal.

I'm pleasantly surprise by Tao's Fresh and would be down to come back again. There are nights when my husband and I have different cravings and it's hard to find a place that can satisfy both parties, but Tao's offered sizzling plates and Hawaiian food which I knew would tempt my husband. Located in a plaza, there's abundant parking available at no cost. The restaurant itself is a good size. We came around 6pm on a Friday night and was able to get seated right away. I already knew I wanted to try their sizzling beef plate with udon and their cheese corn and both items didn't disappoint. My husband opted for their unagi sizzling rice plate with an extra egg and he was a happy camper. Overall, come to Tao's for fresh food.

We had been here once long long long time ago. Our plan was to go to the San Leandro one, however it was closed on Sunday. The sizzling dish was fresh and delicious, even the eel and egg one. The eel musubi was not special, may not order again. The drink was refreshing. Parking was ample. Ambiance casual yet seats were nice. Service was quick and accurate. Will come again.

Don't come here hangry.. you might burn your tongue :p You'll have to be patient and wait for your food to cool down first, even if it already is in front of you. My go to order here is the Sizzling plate with beef + hamburger steak + egg + curry on the side for $16.80. I think it's well worth the price tag. Their crab puffs are also a must order! I like that they give each table their own water jug so you won't have to keep asking. I also like that they use reusable dipping sauce containers instead of the single use ones. The restaurant always seems clean and well kept. Lots of parking in front.

Holy guacamole!!! Actually, there is no guacamole here. But, what they do have is fresh, hot, delicious food!!! Brought my four friends here for dinner after a busy day and each friend loved their dishes. I personally got the curry cheese beef udon and my goodness I was in flavor heaven! I added garlic sauce as if was sizzling and it was perfection. Cheese corn, addictive. Strawberry milkshake, the creamiet and tasty. I loved my friends green tea lychee too, I got to steal a sip. Ambiance is a nice café style and service is fast, you order with a qr code so that is nice! Can't wait to come back.

The cheese corn, how is it eaten? Is it like a dip? What's it dipped with? Do you spoon it onto other dishes? Do you eat it straight? It looks soo rich in cheese and one comment said there was a mayo flavor so I imagine needing something with it.

It's like a side dish/could be appetizer. We eat it with our meal. It's delicious. Get it all the time.

They have these lunch or dinner combo plates all come with soups which is very convenient and inexpensive. All under $20. We even get soups with our noodles plate too. Nice hot tea and ice cold water are plus. The combination crispy noodles we both voted for A+, the sauce is excellent, the noodles are crispy to the last bites and the portion is big. My Singapore noodles was not spicy enough per my sister, not enough curry flavor and not salty enough. For me it's flavorful and needs just a dap of salt. Anyhow, we finished the crispy noodles in a heartbeat and had some Singapore noodles to take home too. The prices are extremely reasonable, I forgot what my family ordered last time but everyone liked theirs.

After some filtering and choosing, we decided on Korean food. Truly always my go-to choice. The food here really did not disappoint and hit the spot after a long day. Overall, will be a 5 star from me. Food: Spicy Braised Beef Short Rib + Cheese and Rice Cakes: 4.5/5 This was their beef short rib with onion and potato. We always get it with the rice cake and cheese on top because those are truly a must for this dish. The braised beef short ribs are super tender and you could cut though it with a spoon. Their meats are nicely marinated into the sauce and super tender. The sauce is really the star of this dish and they seasoned it really well. There's some kick to it, sweet, salty, and umami. I would eat this sauce alone with rice or noodles if I had the choice. The rice cakes are a little too soft for me and I would have preferred for it to have more of a bite. Again, not really complaining because the sauce made up for it. For the cheese, it's mostly just piled on top of the dish. They're not like other places where they torch the cheese to melt it for us. We just mixed it into the sauce and it melted all the way through for that cheese pull. There's no smokiness, but not a big concern for me. It melted well into the sauce and made it taste amazing though. Fried Chicken (8 Pieces) - Soy Garlic + Hot and Sweet Sauce: 4.3/5 This was more of our side dish/appetizer dish. The sauce is a little too salty for my taste, but honestly, I wasn't really complaining. Something I do like is the consistency of it. It's like this sticky sauce that coats the crispy coating of the chicken well. This dipped into the spicy braised short rib sauce was such an amazing combination too. My preference was the soy garlic. The flavor is just so classic. Hot and sweet is good too. There is a good kick to it and a nice balance of flavors overall. When the chicken came out, it was piping hot. Very juicy and I could feel that when I tried to take a bite out of it. Crispy on the outside and nicely cooked all the way through. Banchan: Good variety They provide kelp noodle salad, kimchi, edamame, mashed tofu, Korean yellow pickled radish, and fish cakes. I actually liked all of these expect for the kimchi. I have a specific preference for kimchi, so definitely just a preference in taste kind of a thing. Lovely textures for all of them. The tofu confused us initially, but it's very good protein for me and I'm not complaining about my foods being mechanically altered. --------- Quality: Made to order Their meats seem to be of optimal quality. That or the cut is just really good and they've been braising it for hours now. Super tender and will just come off the bones. The meats are cut into pretty large pieces, so I would cut it into about four pieces. This was doable with a spoon, which says a lot. Of note, we could hear the fryer sound in the back. Crossing fingers that was to freshy fry our chicken. Items also came out piping hot, which is just how I like it. The short ribs was inside of a stone pot and it was just boiling and bubbling away. Always a plus to see. Price: Typical Bay Area Prices The price ranges will depend on what you get. For the two items that we got today, it was around $60. Seems fair for the portion sizes provided. We also had leftovers to bring home. Again, the prices will range from about $15 to $25. Typical Bay Area prices. Service: Fairly Fast My friend and I were actually the only two people there. Honestly, I'm not complaining for us. I'm actually not sure why they're not more popular because their food was made really well for us. Side note, but if I had it my way, I would probably inhale the remainder that we took home with us. Their food was made to order because we did hear the food being cooked. They did come out with the food fairly quickly. Service was alright and they were quite nice about everything. Ambiance: Late Night Eats Vibes This place really gives me the late night eat vibes. They do sell the items that I see in the Korean dramas where they would go out for a drink and some food. They do have nice options for dinner though. Of note, they do stay open quite late, which I am totally here for. Interior is spacious and their music choice is straight from my playlist, which I really like. Location/Parking: Long Plaza This place is a little farther for me, but I still like exploring around as some food places are worth driving a little farther for. This place is on Cedar Blvd and its quite a long plaza. There's like multiple connections in this plaza along with their entrances. They do have some other shops and restaurants here too. Parking didn't seem to be an issue for me at all. They seem to have enough spaces around for this scale of an area.

Not bad for everything under $50. I paid cash and tipped $8. Lady server worked alone, but she's a boss lady who paid attention to details. Kitchen staffs are on fire early in the morning. I can hear them talking loudly in Cantonese. I haven't had HK breakfast in a while, so I do appreciate the foods and service here. Good simple breakfast menu with photos. Exterior of building is old. Parking spaces in the lot are plentiful. It's not an area that feels safe to walk around alone as there are homeless folks/disabled folks/people living in RVs parked nearby. McDonald's is next to the public lot. Overall, I am still satisfied eating here inside this old diner which had lots of seats and tables. Foods are worth it. We can't go back in time to make HK breakfast meals $7.50-$10 each. Appreciate the presence. This place is legit for Hk foods. Yes, if you love sauces, you will get lots of sauces here.

It's the only place that's open late…read more My mom and I ate here last Monday. It was just us, which is a shock. The food is as good as what I get in Hong Kong. Great Chicken Chow Mein. Was full of noodle. However my mom and I were disappointed with Beef Stew Noodle. It lacked in flavor and didn't taste like what I recently experience in Hong Kong. This place is way too expensive. Won't return as they are two other Chinese restaurant nearby.

The coconut mango matcha is super tasty and not overly sweet (well it depends on your sweetness level). Ordering is through the kiosk. Inside is pretty spacious quite a bit of tables for dining in. The only only downside is they took what felt like foreverrrrr. The guy at the end who called my number did tell me thank you for your patience so idk if it was just that day but i only ordered 2 drinks &fries and i was there about 25 minutes waiting and would see other people get their orders so i was starting to get irritated. nonetheless i will definitely be back. they have a good selection of foods &drinks

LENT 2026: FIFTH FRIDAY - CURRY SHRIMP BOWL…read more I hated eating seafood or fish on Fridays during Lent. However the last three years I've eating at restaurants on Lent Fridays to try seafood or fish dishes that I would enjoy tasting. When I order a shrimp rice plate or rice bowl either it's sweet and sour or garlic. On the menu of A Sack of Potatoes one of the rice dishes listed was curry shrimp rice bowl. I'm not a fan of Indian curry, but I prefer Japanese and Thai curries. When I found out this shrimp rice bowl was Thai curry I had to come here to eat for lunch on a Friday during Lent. As I selected the curry shrimp rice bowl I noticed the item stated this was a spicy dish. I'm not a fan of spicy food with the exception of two types of food - Thai and chicken wings. The spicy curry shrimp bowl was fine for me. To quell the spiciness I ordered a mango pomelo sago drink. I was excited to taste a shrimp dish that was not sweet and sour or garlic. I wanted to experience what a curry flavor would be on shrimp. The curry shrimp bowl wasn't spicy at all. In addition the curry didn't taste earthy, but savory. The shrimp was plump and juicy. For the price I paid for the curry shrimp bowl I expected more. Having more shrimp can make the dish more expensive, but that wasn't the issue. There wasn't a lot of curry sauce on this shrimp rice bowl. As rice is a filler I expected more curry sauce. After eating one-third of this dish, which included the shrimp and curry, the remaining two-thirds was rice. Having more curry sauce enhances the rice. I've never drank a mango pomelo sago before. Having this drink on a hot Friday lunch was refreshing. The mango pomelo sago wasn't overly sweet as mango drinks tend to be. My rating for my lunch at A Sack of Potatoes is based on two things. First as there is a lot of rice on the curry shrimp bowl I tasted more of the rice than I did with the shrimp and curry. Second I enjoyed the mango pomelo sago more than the curry shrimp bowl. I always have a rating if a drink or appetizer is better than the main dish I can't a give a place a 4-star.
