1. Food was decent, the cheese sauce was tasty and came in an aladdin style pour cup. the amount was alright, the spaghetti is delicious and hot. 2. the service was mostly by one waiter, nice guy. helped us modify an order that couldnt be done online. 3. we came on a wednesday so there was not alot of people. which is good. the tables and store is fairly small and cozy, i am sure everyone heard our converstions but that is okay. 4. lastly, the only Disappointing issues is that, they do a secret $1 surcharge for no reason. and the tip is automatically 15%, so in the end the total was 17% automatic tip. if you do not pay attention , you would have noticed this, because the reciept also asks for 'additional tip'. IN THIS economy, the prices are already expensive at $17.50+ a plate and there is mostly carbs noodles or rice and some meat. but then adding 17% auto tip plus asking for more is greedy. this was not an issue before, due to this type of new behavior I am not sure i wil return despite the food being decent and service by the waitor was good. restaurants, please stop trying to gouge crazy tip percentages, we know what you are up to. this is one of the only countries that abuse the tipping system. I also had an idiot friend that wanted to add extra tip, i had to throw cold water of awakening into her face.
One of my new fav sizzling rice plate spots! This place was hard to find for some reason...maybe I'm just blind. But, I was really glad I found it. Most of your experience is ordering through the QR code that you scan on the table, but my dad and I still had a welcoming experience with the staff. We never really had to flag anyone down to get their attention and I liked how they would just notice that our water needed to be refilled haha. Lots of seating for larger groups as well! I really wanted some sizzling rice with the beef. Theirs came with corn, garlic butter, and green onions. Very similar to Sizzling Lunch with the sauces and spices on the side. Garlic shoyu sauce is my favorite! I will say I noticed this place was cheaper and less salty than other places I've had. Their popcorn chicken was portioned really well and seasoned lightly. Tender and crunchy. Huge fan of their cheese corn too! Not too mayo-ey and the cheese incorporates really well with the corn. Lovedddd the portion size. Can't wait to come back!
More stars for Tao's. All offerings are favorites and caters to everyone. We always order delivery and it never fails to make our family smile on all the various meals we order for delivery. They are complete with veggies and creamy macaroni etc. Prices are reasonable. We will drop by one day and experience on site dining. Hidden gem of a place and please try them out ! Thank you Tao's
Busy area but didn't have a problem finding parking. Good menu options they have a lot to choose from. Inside is nice, and surprisingly a good amount of seating. I ordered the hawaiian bbq chicken plate to go. It was fresh and a good portion size. The chicken lacked a little flavor and sauce was runny. I wouldn't order again but definitely will come back to try other menu options.
We rarely eat hot/sizzling stone meals but now that the kids are older and more responsible this seemed like a good choice after we were done shopping at Sprouts. They have some diverse offerings on the menu and are an asian fusion with Hawaiian, Chinese, and Japanese on the menu. Seems odd but the reason we came here over other places was I saw they had Honey Walnut Shrimp on the menu and its been almost a year since I had it. Interior is on the newer side and the large windows create a lot of nice natural light inside. Golden Eel Rice: A bright yellow egg moat with rice and garnish in the middle. The egg is topped with Unagi. Loved how clean this one tasted but in hindsight I could make something like this at home and should have went for some of the more standard sizzling plates. Beef Rice: Beef surrounding a mound of rice with corn and green onion toppings. It comes with a paper ring around it to remind you it is HOT and you will burn yourself if you touch it. It stays hot for a long time and the kids loved cooking on it. The rice also gets that nice black crunchy char layer on it which my wife loves.
Satisfied that DIY teppanyaki craving! Got the salmon/ribeye yakiniku. You get to cook the meats to your liking. Garlic/teriyaki sauces and chili powder within reach to season to your preference. They also serve you a pitcher of water. There really is nothing you need to ask the server. They do have milk tea drinks but didn't get to try. We went around 2PM on a weekday and were the only customers there at one point. Would go back again!
I was a little unimpressed. The menu has a lot of variety, but the two dishes we got were mediocre at best. Pretty salty too... The Garlic Shrimp Plate is decently sized, but didn't have much complexity in flavor. Tasted like shrimp I could make at home with garlic butter unfortunately. Mac salad was pretty good though! The Pepper Beef Sizzling Plate was average. Not nearly as tasty as other competitiors, like Sizzling Lunch and Pepper Lunch. The portions were quite decent though!
Tao's fresh serves sizzling plated food usually with beef & rice. It's similar to the likes of Pepper Lunch, I felt like having one so I came by today with my wife. We got: Curry cheese rice (Sizzling plate) - 2 / 5 The cheese is on top of the rice while curry powder is being poured throughout your plate. The beef is on the bottom when it is being served hot on the plate for all of it to be blended and cooked. My biggest issue with this dish was that it was overly salty. There is no elaborative details to the dish. They set up the meat, place the rice correctly in the middle, all of the powder for curry/cheese/and salt should be portioned correctly then done. Everything was to be cooked on the sizzling plate, there's not much else they need to work on. How can they even get the salt proportion wrong as this was a dish being advertised as one of their signature on the billboard on the wall? I was a little puzzled. Salmon beef rice (Sizzling plate) - 4 / 5 My wife thought it was okay. The sauce and salt were portioned okay however she did complain about the fish being a little flavorless. There were sauces on the table to where you can add yourself, so 4 / 5. Service - 4 / 5 They were getting busy but they tried the best to accommodate our basic requests for napkins. It was a plus that they had a self check out option under the QR code ordering for their guests. This is a nice touch where I think more restaurants should implement. What do I think about this place? Well, meh. Seasoning on any dish should be standardized in a restaurant that has been around for some time. Having a dish too salty is really not acceptable. Customers really don't have a lot of alternative to make it "less salty" unless more food is given. One thing they may want to consider is putting the curry piece in a liquid format instead of just pure seasoning so customers can add as much or as little as they wish. Would I come back? It's a toss up, but I'm leaning toward a no unfortunately.
Good place for hot plate teppanyaki. You can order through QR code and you can add toppings like cheese and egg. Food came out pretty quickly and service was pretty good. Plenty of seating during opening. I would come back.
We have visited this spot a few times when we are around the area and looking for a filling lunch. Used to visit Sizzling Lunch and Pepper Lunch for this type of sizzling plates but we honestly prefer here now because it also happens to serve hawaiian food too which is a big plus. We have tried sizzling plates with salmon, beef, and pork and combined with with either rice or curry udon (my personal fave). The garlic butter is extra I believe which kinda sucks but the meat and curry seasonings have a good amount of flavor. Also have tried garlic shrimp here and was quite good even if it isn't as good as some other hawaiian restaurants we have tried in the Bay. A solid lunch spot for sure.
Came here randomly, I just ordered a few things? Despite waiting an unusually long time, the food finally came out. It wasn't bad, it just felt lacking a little? For the first time in a while, when I was paying I didn't want to tip much due to the wait times. One of the employees tried to "guilt trip" me into tipping more? What on earth? People still do this around here? You bet I'm not coming back
Absolutely delicious! The steak was tender and flavorful, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the garlic butter with corn brought everything together. Even the edamame was fresh and tasty. Definitely coming back!
Visited this place as I was recommended by a local and was working nearby and so glad I did! The food was food, flavorful, and a huge portion that filled me up. The service was good and fast and the food came out quickly and hot. The ambiance was nice and maybe a little more upscale than typical Hawaiian bbq place. So overall I would highly recommend this place as a great place for lunch !

Love Tao's Fresh. Their menu is big from sizzling plates to Hawaiian BBQ style plates. It's not authentic per se but pretty good food with great options. They also have lots of appetizers like popcorn chicken and crab ragoons. I like to get the garlic shrimp rice plate which comes with mac salad. The garlic butter sauce is delicious and super flavorful. Love mixing the leftover sauce with the rice. The mac salad is light and super tasty. Tastes very close to traditional Hawaiian mac salad but not as heavy. My husband gets the BBQ beef plate which is also pretty good. Popcorn chicken is alright, think I'd pass next time as there isn't too much meat and doesn't taste like Taiwanese style which I usually prefer. There's plenty of tables inside and you order via your phone from a QR code. Service is usually fast and quick. Overall nice spot with good food and large menu. read more

Great for grabbing lunch with your friends or partner. They also offer takeout if you're in a rush. We came at the tail end of lunch rush so we were told to sit at any open table. Every corner of the table has a QR code posted on it which is thoughtful so everyone isn't fighting to scan it. Although it wasn't busy I noticed food was a little slower getting out at this location than another Tao's Fresh that I've been to before. I got the salmon beef rice and it was pretty good after adding the sauces and seasonings that were already on the table. My friend got the seafood pasta which looked pretty good and it was interesting to see pasta on the sizzling plate. They made sure have his sauce on the side for him to pour over his pasta. What I do like about this location is the size. The space is pretty large and the tables aren't cramped together so you won't need to worry about maneuvering around too much. They also keep the space pretty clean which is always a bonus. read more

The ordering system is quick and efficient. I have been a few times and they always get our order correct. You can choose a sizzle plate with rice or udon noodles along with a robust selection of Hawaiian dishes to choose from. I enjoy having the option of ordering a milk tea drink with various topping choices with my meal. read more
I'm pleasantly surprise by Tao's Fresh and would be down to come back again. There are nights when my husband and I have different cravings and it's hard to find a place that can satisfy both parties, but Tao's offered sizzling plates and Hawaiian food which I knew would tempt my husband. Located in a plaza, there's abundant parking available at no cost. The restaurant itself is a good size. We came around 6pm on a Friday night and was able to get seated right away. I already knew I wanted to try their sizzling beef plate with udon and their cheese corn and both items didn't disappoint. My husband opted for their unagi sizzling rice plate with an extra egg and he was a happy camper. Overall, come to Tao's for fresh food. read more

We had been here once long long long time ago. Our plan was to go to the San Leandro one, however it was closed on Sunday. The sizzling dish was fresh and delicious, even the eel and egg one. The eel musubi was not special, may not order again. The drink was refreshing. Parking was ample. Ambiance casual yet seats were nice. Service was quick and accurate. Will come again. read more

Don't come here hangry.. you might burn your tongue :p You'll have to be patient and wait for your food to cool down first, even if it already is in front of you. My go to order here is the Sizzling plate with beef + hamburger steak + egg + curry on the side for $16.80. I think it's well worth the price tag. Their crab puffs are also a must order! I like that they give each table their own water jug so you won't have to keep asking. I also like that they use reusable dipping sauce containers instead of the single use ones. The restaurant always seems clean and well kept. Lots of parking in front. read more
Holy guacamole!!! Actually, there is no guacamole here. But, what they do have is fresh, hot, delicious food!!! Brought my four friends here for dinner after a busy day and each friend loved their dishes. I personally got the curry cheese beef udon and my goodness I was in flavor heaven! I added garlic sauce as if was sizzling and it was perfection. Cheese corn, addictive. Strawberry milkshake, the creamiet and tasty. I loved my friends green tea lychee too, I got to steal a sip. Ambiance is a nice café style and service is fast, you order with a qr code so that is nice! Can't wait to come back. read more

A step up from the popular sizzling lunch chain! And a very good option for anyone craving teppanyaki. I've been here three times already and have thoroughly enjoyed each new item I try. From the classic beef rice, to the rich and savory curry beef cheese rice, and the umami eel rice, every sizzling plate has been really good! They have hot sauce, garlic sauce, teriyaki sauce, salt, pepper, and spicy seasoning all on the table so you can dress your plates to your liking, but they are pretty good by themselves already. I've also tried a few appetizers (calamari, gyoza, cheese corn) which were good but the star is still the sizzling plates. Overall, the food is great and I want to come back and try their Hawaiian rice plates. You won't be blown away by amazing service here just because the ordering process is via QR code on the table. Workers do the minimum of seating you, bringing you water and your food. You also pay through the same website you order on, and if you want to do a custom tip, you have to call a worker over. read more

This place is similar to sizzling lunch, but with a lot more options in food and drinks. It's a small location located in a shared plaza, so there's plenty of parking. It can get pretty busy, especially on a Friday evening when we went but we were seated pretty quickly. The food came fast as well. The place itself has a few tables, and is able to serve large parties too! My friend and I both for a sizzling plate and it was a good amount of food especially for the price. I visited Tao's Fresh for lunch with my coworker after hearing so many great things about it. Upon entering, we were directed to sit at an open table, and the server promptly brought us water. To place our order, we had to scan a QR code on the table. While convenient in theory, the process was a bit confusing at first because the menu didn't open right away--you have to take an extra step and click "View Menu" at the bottom left corner. I ordered the Curry Beef Cheese Rice based on positive reviews. The dish arrived piping hot, and the flavor was decent--not extraordinary, but enjoyable. The portion sizes were generous, and neither of us managed to finish our meals. The one downside I found tricky about this place was their tipping system. When you proceed to pay, you're required to select a minimum tip of 15% before completing the transaction. While I fully support tipping, I found it frustrating since this restaurant operates mostly as a self-serve establishment. It felt a bit off to have no choice but to tip a minimum amount in order to pay. read more
I loved Tao's fresh - this casual, sizzling lunch/hawaiian spot was just what I needed for a chill Friday night. Came at rush hour at dinner but was able to get a table for 2 ight away. You order via a QR code and our food came out in 15-20 min. - Chicken Katsu (5/5) - chicken was cooked perfectly, breading was crispy, and the katsu sauce was just slightly sweet. This dish came with 3 sides, so I got 2 mac salad and 1 rice. -Beef plate with egg (5/5) - also a great pick, we added teriyaki and garlic sauce and it was delicious. I can't wait to come back and try their other offerings, specifically their garlic shrimp. The best part is this place is also really affordable (~20/dish), which is very fair and great quality and value. Will definitely be back. read more

Normally I would have gone to Sizzling Lunch but I wanted to try a different place with sizzling plates. I came here with my husband. We did enjoy the food but after we received the bill. We saw a 15% service charge which is pretty ridiculous.... Make sure u check the receipt. read more

Finally tried this spot, it is somewhat close to me. It is one of those sizzle plate spots similar to Pepper Lunch and/or Sizzle Spot. But this place also has a section for Hawaiian Plate Lunches like Katsu/Short Rib/Chicken with Rice and Mac Salad. They've got an interesting enough of a menu that I could somewhat be a reg here. QR code ordering but you pay up front. I've had the kitchen miss an add-on like a fried egg, so you may have to bring it to someones attention. Service is pretty minimal, but some employees are more observation oriented, like they'll ask if you want a box if they see some food remaining. But not guaranteed as some have a no contact policy. I've been in twice and it's 50/50. Spam Musubi ($5.50/3*) Huge musubis, but mostly rice. I like more of a balance and I like ones that have furikake, so these are super meh to me. But at least their rice is tender and fresh. Wings ($12/3.5*) Nice sized wings and nicely fried. They may have a 2 sauce option and I ended up with a Korean style Soy Garlic flavor, even the menu just says 'Garlic'. I'm not big on sweet wings so I didn't love this, but still took some home and ate it just fine. Kimchi Beef Rice ($15ish/4*) Solid sizzling plate, that iron plate comes out blazing and will stay hot for the duration of the meal. I like hot food but this is just too hot for me, as you have to eat super slow til the very end. And because the food is so hot and the pan is thermally hot, it just makes for a sweaty out. Do I really want that for a relaxing meal? But the beef quality is pretty good and caramelizes so easily on that hot pan. I do have to season the beef at the table, but there are so many things to amp that flavor up. And to take a bite of crisp beef with a bite of crisp buttered rice is quite an epic bite I have to admit. And the kimchi adds just enough acidity to brighten things up. This may be my future anchor dish here. Rib Eye ($23ish/4*) This is more of premium beef dish here. The beef here also sizzles to an awesome deep crusty brown, but instead of thin slices of beef, this is a whole albeit thin steak of ribeye. They do slice it before putting it on the iron so you won't have to do any significant cutting at the table. This was also more seasoned than the sliced beef from the other dish, not sure why. The beef flavor was okay, more water-y tho than beef-y. And outside of the first 2 bites, you'll pretty much be eating well done beef. Still juicy but I just rarely eat steak this hot, like putting it in your mouth while it is still cooking. Also the rice comes on the side on this dish so you won't get that crisp crust unless you make room on that tight space and throw rice on the iron yourself. I think I prefer the thin sliced beef for this style of cooking. Grapefruit Tea with Lychee Jelly ($6.50/4*) Good tea tannins that grip, taste like jasmine to me. Not sure how the grapefruit gets in, I'm assuming a syrup of some type. I chose 30% sweet and it was good for me. The lychee jelly sweetens it a lot so under 50% sweet was a good move. It's a big cup and I always have to drink those in 2 servings, which make the price tag more reasonable. Cool spot and close to home. Still gotta try the Hawaiian plates and that sizzling beef plate on occasion, maybe on a cold day where a thawing out would prove comfortable. read more

This restaurant is one of my faves in Newark. Whenever an old friend comes back to visit, I tend to recommend this place to try. I mostly get one of the sizzling plates. I either get the salmon or the curry rice. I also love ordering the cheese corn to mix in, which I haven't seen on menus at other locations. read more

Came here for lunch during the work week. I was surprised that it wasn't busy at all. I remember this place being packed all the time. This time I ordered the beef sizzling plate. It's a solid dish and tastes similar to the other sizzle plate establishments. You can add some add-one for extra charge. Other than that there are some good sauces on the table that you can add onto your plate. You order through the QR code on the table. The server really only came to bring out the food and water other than that they didn't come around. Which is fine since we had a quick lunch. read more
Great options here! They have Hawaiian food and sizzling plates here. Today we couldn't decide what we wanted to we just ordered a bunch of apps and shared. Everything was really good! The staff here are super nice and sweet. You scan the menu at the table and order through your phone. Quick service. We ordered the popcorn chicken, cheese corn, fries, edamame, and spam masubi. With a side of curry sauce! So so good. We love this place bc it's a place that we can all agree on especially with our picky kids. Plenty of parking- shared within the plaza. LENT 2025: FIRST FRIDAY It's this time of year again when on Fridays during Lent I do not eat beef, pork, , lamb, or poultry. The first time I came here was last year in April. I ordered the grilled eel rice. I enjoyed the sauce on the grilled eel rice. The dish was very hearty yet filling. I came here to Tao's Fresh at the last minute for lunch. I enjoyed the grilled eel rice plate from first visit, yet I ordered a different variation - golden eel rice plate. I know there is fried egg however egg is acceptable to eat on Fridays during Lent. (FYI I don't make the rules when it comes what you can eat or can't eat during Lent). I also ordered seasoned calamari to keep with eating fish or seafood during Lent. The seasoned calamari was OK, nothing special. What is unique about the golden eel rice is the dish is served in a sizzling bowl. You can hear the eggs frying on the sizzling bowl. Eating the hot egg yolk with the rice and grilled eel provided a different texture than the grilled eel rice. I preferred the golden eel rice over the grilled eel rice. If I can eat eggs as a loophole during Fridays on Lent then the golden eel rice is a guilty dish to have without feeling guilty. read more

True story. There my legs dangled out of my car as it sat idle inside my garage. Should I make a meal or grab one. I couldn't move. Friday night, overworked, physically tired, emotionally drained with nothing left to give. So much nothing, I couldn't decide where my dinner was going to come from. My friend texted me telling me not to cook but to go grab my meal. Problem was that I had no more thoughts. I had to dig deep through all the cuisines I could think of and barely pulled out a desire for Hawaiian. Even then, the decision of what to do or eat was iffy! So, I texted my friend asking her to tell me what to eat. Who does that? "Tell me what to eat!". Yeah, I did that. So she sent me the Yelp review for Tao's Fresh. Never heard of it. In comparison to my own searches for Hawaiian, the number of stars on this exhausted night gave me enough fuel to swing my legs back in the car and drive the 16 minutes it took to get there. 16 min in this area is considered "close by". Haha! In my state, I was starting to shake from hunger and tiredness. Upon entry, the serve staff put on my table a Korean labeled jug of water. I love drinking water and with my meals I'm known to drink my fair share. Self-service water at my table, I like you Tao's Fresh already! Being that my brain was focused on Hawaiian BBQ and my brain barely functioning, I ordered the meat combo with all Mac. I'm not into rice at all. I barely had time to admire other parts of the menu and what others were eating when I quickly picked my order. But I had enough concentration left to decided that I wanted to come back and try other things on the menu. Licketty split, my very hot meal was placed in front of me. Hmmm.. looks ok but does it taste ok? The beef had a sweet marinade. I'm not a fan of overly sweet. This was borderline. Hunger and tiredness makes everything taste good. Yom! The ribs were tender. Delicious! Dip it in a little of their hot sauce and yum-o! Even the chicken was tender and delicious. As for the Mac, I can get picky about Mac. I ate the whole thing. I ate the whole thing! I ate the entire plate! Every part of the plate! And at the end, I still had the desire to return again in the future! Next time I just might have to try one of their sizzling platters. It looks like a fun meal. And for some reason, this restaurant made me feel like I was in Irvine. Weird! Was it the awesomeness of the food or the simple, no fuss, "quick eats" but "hang for awhile easygoing style of this joint? I'm not sure. But, I do know my 16 min drive was worth every bite! I like Taos Fresh Concept so I was ecstatic to find out they have a Location in Newark also!!! The Plus they are open later and on Sundays !!! I Rolled in and was Greeted and Seated!! I Perused the Menu and ordered a Curry Beef Udon Sizzling Plate !!! It reached my Table 5 minutes later and it was a good. Show and Meal!! Parking is Free and Plentiful!!! Service Quick and Easy!!! I also Ordered Cheese Corn in a Sizzling platter !!!! This is A Must Order if you like Cheese and Corn!!!!! Delicious!!!! My 3rd and last Order was the Unagi Musubi!!!! Yummy Morsels from God!!!! For Dessert I Ordered 2 Strawberry Smoothies to go. !!!!! This is a Baller On A Budget Approved Establishment!!!! I ll be Back!!! read more

The cheese corn, how is it eaten? Is it like a dip? What's it dipped with? Do you spoon it onto other dishes? Do you eat it straight? It looks soo rich in cheese and one comment said there was a mayo flavor so I imagine needing something with it.
It's like a side dish/could be appetizer. We eat it with our meal. It's delicious. Get it all the time.
