Bag of 50 Pork Dumplings $20 - Will update if it is not as good as the pork and shrimp dumplings. Very simple menu done well. Everything is frozen. Atmosphere - Small neighborhood business, in the middle of a residential area, see my Volcano Island review. Take away only. Plenty of parking, just like our last visit. Open 6 days a week from 9am to 6pm and until 4pm on Saturday; closed Sundays. Service - Good. Saw me outside taking my Yelp pictures and unlocked the door to let me in. Patiently waited as I tried to call my daughter to see what she wanted or not?!?! No answer, so I just picked. A suggestion would be to also have cooking instructions on your packages. Stopped by to see if I could grab a bag of dumplings. I remember my family talking about this store and how good it was. The store may seem closed but it's actually open (the door was locked when I tried it but staff immediately unlocked the door)! I ended up getting a 50-piece bag of pork & chive dumplings, as it's the flavor I'm most used to. Staff was super nice, telling me I needed to put the dumplings back in the freezer immediately, since it was freshly made. They also stated the dumplings would stay fresh (tastewise) for up to a month in the freezer. I definitely appreciated the tips and help! It was $21 for the bag, which can be pricey but definitely wanted to support a family favorite and local business. Will be back to try other dumplings! read more

Delicious artisan dumplings! Lai Young is a tiny frozen dumpling shop located in a strip mall near Mt. Eden Park. It was buried in my bookmark list until I came across a recent review by another Yelper. Since I was running errands in the Hayward area on 01/30/2021, I decided to stop by to pick up a couple bags of frozen dumplings for dinner. I walked up at around 11:40 am and was greeted by the owner James. He was super polite and friendly. I ordered two 50-piece bags - one made with chicken ($17) and the other with pork, shrimp, and chive ($19.50). The total was $36.50. I had to wait a few minutes for them to assemble my order. James suggested I either call and text in the order next time to avoid the wait. I cooked the pork, shrimp, and chive ones for dinner that evening. They were ready to eat after 10-12 minutes of boiling. The dumpling skin was smooth and delicate and had the right thickness. The filling was outstanding. I could taste the freshness of the chives and shrimp. I had the chicken ones a few nights later. They were very good as well. My coworkers and I work in Hayward and this place came up in conversation a couple weeks ago and I was totally bought in when they described it to me (I get easily excited about stuff like this) It's basically a little hidden gem - a family who sells homemade dumplings and sells them by the bag (disclaimer - this place is NOT a sit-down restaurant, everything is packaged to be frozen so you can take it home and cook it). I love that it's a local business and am all about supporting places like these! I think this place could potentially have way more reviews on Yelp - but it's because the target demographic for places like these (Asian people seeking real Asian food) aren't online on sites like Yelp. Pros: - really good dumplings! Although not the cheapest at $13 or $15 per bag, saving the time of making the dumplings myself and the mess of having to cleanup, it really isn't so bad since you get about 3-4 servings from the bag of 50. We enjoy their hand made dumplings. Try different flavors to find the one you like the most. You need to call or text in your order first and they will let you know which day you can pick up. Cook the dumplings in boiling water, steam them, or pan fry to make pot stickers. They have been in business for more than 20 something years or even longer. In love with this shop. My friend first introduced me to Lai Young back in 2017, and we drive all the way from downtown SF to restock on these dumplings. They remind me family-made dumplings except that they're far better than any dumplings I could ever make. You can call or text the owners, and they respond quickly. It's best if you let them know days (or at least a day) ahead how many bags you would like, to find out their availability, and your expected pickup day/time. I walked in but wasn't sure if they were open as they had a fan in the doorway as i saw 2 women sitting and folding vegetable dumplings....nice gentleman came out and moved the fan and said they only had pork today....sounds good to me! They're frozen which works great for me as you make whenever you get a crave....got home, boiled some water, and put in 4 frozen dumplings...cooked about 8-9 minutes which came out perfect....added some black vinegar, soy sauce and sesame oil in a dish and dipped...Yum! The dumplings were delicious plain and didn't need it...skin is on the thicker side but still delicious. i'll have to come back when they other offerings available but this is definitely the place to get your 'make-it-at-home' dumplings....will definitely return. Really like the pork dumplings with chives, and love the chive pocket. The XLB is interesting-- it's more like dumpling in the shape of XLB. Prices are very reasonable. Cook the frozen dumpling in boiling water for 8 minutes and it's ready! I text ahead (same number as posted on yelp) before picking up the order. The owner is very quick to respond, usually within a few minutes. They do seem to always have what I want that day. The place has one way tinted windows and door but someone does get to the door very quickly once you stand by the door (no need to knock, they can see through the security camera).
