Calimari - very crunchy!
Kristi H.

tl;dr Great lunch combo price, clean and simple Hainan chicken options My entire family ordered the B00 Special Hainan Chicken Noodle Soup, which is at a great combo price. This reminded me of a home-cooked meal, tasty, straight-forward, and fresh. Food came out quickly enough, steaming hot. The restaurant is not very large, so if you have a large party or come when it's busy, you may be waiting outside for a while. Parking is easy enough, as it is a large lot shared by many other businesses in the center, but this side of the lot is usually less busy for the occasions I've been there.

If you love Hainan chicken, this spot is a must. It's definitely a no-frills place, but that's part of the charm. The servers take your order quickly, the food comes out fast, and you're eating in no time--which honestly is the best part when you're craving comfort food. The Hainan chicken with rice is delicious--simple, flavorful, and done right. The Hainan chicken noodle soup is just as good and super comforting. On top of that, the prices are very affordable, which makes it even better. Simple, quick, and satisfying--I definitely recommend!

We were a little disappointed when we came in as our pieces of hainan chicken were a lot smaller than usual. Everything else was the usual when it came to the noodles, soup and rice.

This place was such a surprise! Came here after a Costco run and was craving a quick rice plate and the Special Hainan Chicken, DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The chicken plate not only was a deal, it was succulent and the rice portion was perfect with a pickled cucumber/fungus side and hot soup. Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for something well-balanced and quick. Service was speedy and efficient. Their appetizers were pretty tasty too. Thank you for the yummy meal!

Food is delicious- great service

Special promotion $9.99 rice plate

Found this spot in San Leandro and tried the special promotion $9.99 chicken rice plate. The chicken was tender and paired perfectly with the ginger scallion sauce. I loved that it came with so many sides--peanuts, wood ear mushrooms, and a spring roll. Will definitely come again!

Busy place on a Saturday afternoon. I was the only white dude in the place. (my husband is from Hong Kong. He pointed that out.). Women at the counter were fast and friendly. The Hainan Chicken was great. Hainan Chicken has bones of you didn't already know. They give you a LOT of pickled ginger with your order. The food seem authentically Chinese, but I don't know enough about the cuisine to verify that. Recommend. But we got Takeaway. If you want to dine in expect a wait.

One of my go to places when I want a hearty, warm, delicious meal. They have great combos for a decent price and you can always count of getting some great hainan chicken. Their noodles are also great and my next favorite option when I want to switch it up. They're pretty fast and efficient and the place itself isn't too big but usually is never too full to not be able to find a seat.

This restaurant has been in a stable rotation for whenever I am eating out. They serve super fast each and every time I visited, ranging from 5 minutes to 15 minutes. Chicken is tendered and juicy, the garlic scallion sauce pairs with it perfectly. Just simple and comforting.

This is a small Chinese restaurant inside the Washington Manor plaza. Ordered the special Hainan chicken soup comb and Beef stew noodles. Chicken was a little overcooked it was not tender. Beef stew broth was very tasty. Definitely will come back to try other dishes.

Had high hopes was overall a disappointment. Located inside Greenhouse Market place, it's a small restaurant close to the Jack in the Box/McDonald's size. Place has a simple menu which is more than enough for a small size restaurant. Staff here are friendly and have one restroom stall that's always busy. Unfortunately it's a huge disappointment. Not sure if it was because the Chef was having a bad day or if the sale was on sale but everything was too salty to the point where the salt covered up the natural taste of the food. The fried fish (size of smelt roe) should've been lightly season and fried but it was too salty to even taste the fish. The soup that came with the Hainan chicken was too salty but the Hainan Chicken itself was done right. The fried fish cake.. all we could taste was the salt. I hope this is not their norm.

Hainanese chicken rice, 1/4 chiu chow brined duck & braised pork knuckle
Sandy Q.

Lately, I've been craving Hainan chicken rice and the last place I tried, left me disappointed. When I saw the picture of the Hainan chicken rice from this place, I thought I'll give it a try. We ordered 1/4 Chiu chow brined duck, braised pork knuckle and Hainanese chicken rice. As part of the rice dish, I received a bowl of soup. To my surprise, I actually really enjoyed the food. Majority of the food was seasoned well, except the cucumber side dish that came with the rice. It literally has no flavor. This restaurant is quite small but it seems like a lot of their orders are for take out.

Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 3.5/5 Small cozy restaurant at the Greenhouse Marketplace, near McDonald's. We ordered C01 Signature Hainan Chicken over Rice & B05 Mixed Meatball Noodle Soup. I liked how the Hainan Chicken went well with the sides, esp the salted green onions, cucumber & mushrooms. I added chili oil yumm. The chicken broth was flavorful. It was a generous portion. We were so full from the chicken that we just packed the meatball soup to go. Would come back to try the small plates.

The frustration in driving in a circle. The ambiance of the restaurant is basically a Hong Kong Cafe style. There are two areas catering small parties to big parties. The lighting is terrible though, the florescent lighting is just not for me. The food here is pretty good. They have a huge selection. Hayward doesn't have a lot of Asian catering restaurants that are cheap eats. Yeah, they opened a new banquet, but not a lot of fast, cheap foods. 1. Pork Congee with Thousand Year Old Egg - Typically very flavorful. I like to come grab a bowl when I'm not feeling well to cook. 2. Honey Walnut Shrimp - How can you go wrong? Such a western staple. 3. Pork Chow Fun - Large portion, reasonably priced, tasty enough. 4. Salt & Pepper Fish Fillet - Surprisingly one of my favorite things on the menu. Sharable portions, enough for maybe 2-4 people. 5. Salt & Pepper Prawns - Typically I would say standard, but I don't believe I enjoyed the prawns as much. 6. Mongolian Beef - Standard, soft, best with rice. 7. Salt & Pepper Pork Chops - I could live without this. 8. Combo Pan Fried Noodles - I love me a crispy noodle with gravy I can pour over because it leaves a good texture. 9. Chicken Fried Rice - Standard, sharable 10. Beef Brisket Noodle Soup - Tasty, boyfriend's favorite. Hate that adding wonton is literally $1 per piece and it's so tiny. 11. HK Milk Tea - Reasonable, but not very flavorful.. 12. Lemon Tea - Decent, probably our go to drink 13. Assam Milk Tea with Cheese Foam - Not worth it. The service is pretty standard, limited due to language barrier at times.

It has been a VERY long time since we ate here. Actually, the previous time was with the previous owners/business. Today we got the following: Fish Ball Noodle Soup with Pho Noodles - Of course my daughter's choice and with NO veggies?!?! This looked so plain... I know I could have made this better at home! My wife shared some of her wontons with my daughter to add to the flavor. See pictures. I am sure this is NOT what my daughter had in mind when she craved Pho. This was much more of a "Chinese" dish rather than Vietnamese. Update - My daughter mentioned that she could not find regular thinly sliced beef pho as an option. And she thought fish balls were beef balls... Wonton Noodle Soup - Also as plain as my daughter's dish. Again, more of a Chinese dish rather than Vietnamese. #24 Fried Pork Chop, Chicken, Egg with Steamed Rice - Fried fresh and perfectly done! My pork chop and chicken were 5 stars! Everything else was just okay. Ambiance - Very small local business. Decent size parking lot, but not enough spaces for this busy mall. We got lucky and got a space fairly close to the restaurant. Not stressed as we planned to shop at Foodnet after lunch. Service - Had to ask for everything. Hard to get their attention as they just hung around the first booth talking and talking and talking. The hardest worker was the runner, probably the only employee that was not family...? Price - $66 + more generous tip than deserved or earned. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location since 2024. And your previous location in Oakland, etc. The previous location was known for their chicken, chicken noodle soup, etc.

I'm a regular here, and I've frequented other Hong Kong style cafes all over East and South Bay…read more This is still my personal favorite. On this visit, I ordered the Black Pepper Beef Pen (Pan) Fried Spaghetti, Baked Minced Meat Spaghetti, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, Egg Puff, and a whole Hainan chicken for takeout. The Black Pepper Beef Pan Fried Spaghetti is one of my staple orders. They are very consistent with the noodle texture and flavor, and it usually comes out very quickly. The Baked Minced Meat Spaghetti is my go to HK comfort food, and the version here is my favorite. It is on the "drier" side compared to other spots, with more focus on the ground beef and onions instead of sauce. As a carnivore, I also appreciate that there are no vegetables mixed in. The cheese layer on top is always solid. The Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings are very good about 90 percent of the time. Crispy on the outside and juicy and tender inside. The other 10% of the time, they do overcook a bit every now and then, but I'll give them a pass. The Egg Puff is not always perfect in terms of texture or appearance, but the flavor is consistent and I like to end my meal with it as a nice dessert. Service is attentive when they are not too busy. On this visit, they kept my water topped up and brought extra napkins without me asking after noticing I had used mine up. Overall, Baby Cafe continues to be my go to for Hong Kong comfort food. Not perfect every time, but consistent enough that I keep coming back.
