This dish is wild; you don't smell it much, but the sizzling and crackling sounds hit you first! Both the meat and veggies have a great smoky flavor and aren't too salty. The meat is so tender and juicy. This was definitely my favorite and most satisfying dish today! * Sizzling Crispy Grass Carp: I thought this was pork, but it's fish! This dish smokes like a busy temple with lots of incense. I almost thought a god had appeared and was ready to make an offering! The fish has a fantastic crispy and bouncy texture and a unique, fresh, almost grassy taste, all while still smoking! * Hand-Shredded Chicken: The lettuce and chicken are shredded really finely～～no bones! Picked up a few dishes from here for dinner a few days ago. Called in the order and it was ready when I got there. The food here is blend, no flavor or the authentic Hong Kong Style cooking. Beef Stew Wonton Ho Fun, the wontons were pretty big, the beef stew was a little chewy and broth had no flavor. I really try to support Asian businesses in the San Leandro area and am so happy to say there is a lot more variety these days. We were in a time crunch and downtown San Leandro was slammed on a Sunday afternoon! Full House Cafe was able to accommodate our semi large group quickly. The menu has plenty of comforting hk cafe classics including desserts and yumi purple rice drinks. We ordered a variety of noodles and some steamed rice room since it is only available on weekends. I had high hopes but unfortunately, everything was very greasy and lacked flavor. The stir fried beef noodles was generous on... bean sprouts and not as much so with the beef. Sadly, everything dish that came out was the same, super bland and super greasy. I had to use a lot of chili sauce to give the food some life. A couple people got their rice drink and said the flavor was very subtle. They also didn't get purple rice in their drinks so be specific when you order. We hadn't been in this space since Daimo first opened here so many years ago. Parking is always a bit of a challenge. Never park in the Bank of America parking lot next door. We parked in the small parking lot behind the restaurant. I hope that's still okay. One hour limit. The restaurant is bright inside. Plenty of seating We were directed to a two-top that was adjacent to a four-top. Most of the tables were rectangles and could easily be pushed together although it wouldn't be convenient for typical Chinese round table dining. Menus were presented and we were left alone for a few minutes to look at them. They had pretty pictures of some food items but certainly not all of them. Most everything sounded good and it would be fun to bring a crew in and tear up the menu. That's the one bad thing about not having round tables, you can't set up a lazy susan and just spin at will. Everything has to be passed back and forth which, of course, slows down the eating process! We decided to keep it simple for the second day in a row. She ordered: Curry Fish with Steamed Rice - 3 - The fish was very fresh and gently cooked as opposed to cooked to death. There were lots of Green Bell Peppers and Yellow Onions as well as some Carrots balanced with a reasonable quantity of fish. There was enough curry sauce to go with the steamed rice which was good. On the down-side, the curry was somewhat bland and the fish was as well. Had the fish been flash fried to give it some carmelization, that would have added texture as well. I ordered: Assorted Seafood Chow Ho Fun (dry) - 4 - There were 3 small shrimp, 3 pieces of calamari and 4 pieces of fish served with my fun. There was an abundance of bean sprouts, some yellow onions and a reasonable quantity of green onions. The fun was pretty fresh, not super greasy and not broken up. It also had a noticeable degree of wok hay which was nice to find. The fish was very good but while the calamari was still crunchy, it and the shrimp were completely bland. I'm guessing that they were cooked separately and then added in. A small amount of dark soy and white pepper could have fixed that and elevated the dish to a 5-star. we both drank Ice Water and were happy to actually see ice in the disposable cups. There appeared to be one server taking care of the dining room although another woman occasionally came out to serve diners. We would not return just to reorder the same two dishes that we had but we may come back to try other menu items such as Sliced Pork Pan Fried Udon, Chinese Sausage & Preserved Pork Clay Pot Rice, Three kinds of Balls Noodle Soup, and Lotus Leaf Steamed Rice with Ribs. read more

My brother was feeling Chinese food for dinner and so I put in an online order for several dishes and clay pot rice from this place. 2 dishes that stood out to me: Spare ribs clay pot rice- I definitely think that it's very hard to find a solid clay pot spot around the SL/SLZ Eden area but this place though, does a relatively decent job on it. The toppings were pretty much loaded and the rice itself had all the flavor from the black bean spare ribs. However, my favorite part was the scorched crispy rice on the bottom. Although we got take out, they still managed to get all the crispy rice from the pot into the take out tray. The rice itself I can't stop thinking about because it still had Al the umami from the cooking process. General Tso Chicken- this dish was surprisingly good and is was my brother's favorite dish of the night. The flavor was all there and the sweet glaze on top of the chicken was glistening as if it was a beacon of attention just waiting to be eaten. Things started out a bit rocky when Full House first opened, but they seem to have smoothed out now. I haven't actually sampled any of the staple HK café (aka cha chaan teng) baked offerings, but have had a decent variety of the family style dishes. I must say they are not bad at all! Even though the main competitor, Leisure Café, directly across the street always seems much busier, if I personally had to choose one or the other, I just might pick Full House! Unfortunately, to the dismay of the owners (and to the benefit of patrons), Full House never usually lives up to its namesake, at least the times I have passed by. It is rarely ever crowded, and perhaps location has a lot to do with it. I remember the old Daimo never being particularly packed either. Whereas Leisure is directly connected to the autopark and large plaza, one must cross the street to reach Full House. Even though this is obviously not that great of a distance to traverse, if does create a psychological barrier. Whether this will affect the future welfare of the business is yet to be determined. The interior is quite refreshing, and covers the five C's - casual, cute, charming, cozy, and comfortable - which is quite a rare combination indeed. The aged wooden tables are wide and spread out, and the matching seating is spacious. Service is on the higher end of the spectrum for Chinese restaurants, which isn't saying a whole lot, but it likely won't irritate you. Items come out of the kitchen rapidly, but unfortunately, servers don't seem to check up on things or refill tea very often. As for the food, during my last visit, our group of three adults ordered Salty Fish and Chicken with Eggplant Clay Pot, Shrimp with Scrambled Egg, Bittermelon with Beef, and Mushroom Chicken with Rice Clay Pot. All of this was ravenously devoured with no complaints whatsoever. The total damage amounted to around $50 out the door. While this is certainly more expensive than somewhere like Good Neighbour, it is still quite reasonable for the quality. Portions are decent, but not huge, and they do not skimp on the meat. Overall, I'm glad Full House has been able to right the wrongs from the rather lackluster opening, and has quickly ascended the ranks to become a viable option for cha chaan teng fans in the central East Bay. Of course as patrons, we love that the name of the establishment is currently a misnomer, but in order to ensure that subsequent visits will be possible, hopefully word will get out soon. read more

Super cheap and filling lunch specials! This is probably my new go to spot when I want to save money, but don't feel like cooking. I believe the lunch special runs through 6pm every day, even weekends! Linner special I guess? It comes with a free drink and a dish. I got the HK milk tea and the black pepper beef with rice. The portion isn't huge, but that's probably a good thing so I don't overeat. It was very flavorful though. You can't beat $8 for this meal. Service was decent. The food came out in like 5 minutes from when we ordered. They have a pretty extensive full menu, as most HK cafes do. The food came out pretty quickly. I was very surprised at how tender and tasty the beef was! It was delicious only down side was small portion and I wanted more! There was definitely more rice to beef ratio. I also ordered to chow fun for take out, one was the regular beef chow fun and it definitely had the "wok hay" that is Chinese people like. For example, you can get the classic pot stickers, bittermelon with chicken, chicken curry, singapore noodles. Or you can flip the coin and try fusion items such as Korean kimchee fried rice with egg, pork chop with tomato sauce over rice (sweet and delicious). On this visit, I tried the pork chop on the sizzling plate over rice. Your cast iron place stays hot and notebook and phone received a bit of grease splatter, but well worth the delicious pork chop with onions and bell peppers. Hong Kong style cafe? Yes, please! The food here is pretty good and reasonably priced. Orders come out quickly, but service is otherwise a bit slow. On my most recent visit, we ordered 3 dishes for $30 from the set meal menu: salt and pepper capelin fish, salted fish and chicken with eggplant clay pot, and beef tripe hot pot. The salted fish and chicken clay pot was super tasty! I loved the sauce and it wasn't too salty. The beef tripe hot pot was yummy as well. It's a dry pot over fire and comes with tons of veggies including lotus root. My only complaint is that I don't think it had enough pieces of tripe. Capelin fish was unfortunately disappointing. It was slightly over coated with batter, and the salt and pepper flavor was seriously lacking. We had to add salt and pepper to that one. (I think this may be a friend with their salt and pepper dishes as I remember the salt and pepper tofu was also very light on the seasoning.) They also have combo meal sets for larger parties, and offer plenty of options for the dishes you can choose! Haven't tried the desserts or drinks here yet, with exception of the HK milk tea. The tea was great because you could customize exactly how sweet you want it. I also recommend the congee (about $6 for a pretty large bowl) and the salted fish fried rice. We were in the area on a weekday afternoon and there were not a lot of choices of restaurants. The positive is that Full House is open the whole day and serves Hong Kong style east and western fusion food. There was only one other patron in dinning during our late lunch. We ordered the following Hong Kong Milk tea with condensed milk 4 stars Salt and Pepper Squid 2 stars the squid was fishy Zha Tsai Pork rice noodle soup 3 stars Spicy Chau Ma noodle soup 2 stars added extra fish balls $3 for two tiny fish balls (ripoff) Only two tables server no where to be found. It is located along a nicer stretch of of E 14th St, directly right across the street from Leisure Cafe, one of their competitors. My family and I came here for dinner last Sunday evening. We walked in at around 7:15 pm and were immediately greeted by a couple servers. The interior was clean and brightly lit. Seating was made up with 15 or so tables. Two huge TVs provided entertainment for the diners. We chose to sit at a larger table in the middle of the cafe. Hot tea and menus were brought to us promptly. After a few minutes of perusing, we ordered the following: - Salt and Pepper Capelin ($3.99) - *Curry Beef Stew with Rice ($9.99) - *Black Bean Spare Rib Clay Pot Rice ($8.95) - Baked Pork Chop Rice ($8.49) *Came with complementary drink My curry beef stew was served in a square bowl with rice on the side. The portion was decent. There were half a dozen pieces of beef along with some fillers (pieces of green bell pepper, fried potato, and onion). Overall, it was pretty good. The meat was tender and the sauce was quite authentic. It took quite some time before the other two entrees arrive. Our server was apologetic and explained it was due to the prep time. For the baked pork chop rice, fried rice and two thin pork chops were placed in an oval shape metal bowl with the sauce on top. It was baked prior to service. The pork chop tasted okay but had some small bones in them (be careful). The sauce was quite good. Carrots were added to provide some sweetness. As for the black bean spare rib clay pot rice, I was pleasantly surprised since it was made with charcoal fire. Unfortunately, the crispy rice on the bottom was badly burnt, which made it inedible. Had that not happened, it would have been a 4-star dish at the very least since everything else in that dish was fine. The salt and pepper capelin, our appetizer, was last to arrive. It was excellent. Hot and crispy and loaded with roe. Service we received was pretty good. The staff members we encountered were polite, friendly, and attentive. With T/T, the meal only set me back about $40. Aside from the burnt rice, I thought the food at this place was decent and authentic. I certainly don't mind eating here again. 3.5 stars rounding up to 4. BONUS MATERIAL: - Don't park in the BofA lot. They will ticket you. I've been wanting to come here for awhile just to try them out, but I haven't until recently because the first time I came, they said cash only but now they accept card. I've always seen it across the street when I got to Leisure or T4. You could either park on the street or park across the street in the parking lots near Leisure/T4 or farther down by Wing Fiesta, Safeway, etc. and walk over because there's plenty of parking there. The parking lot next to Full House belongs to Bank of America so don't park there. My first time here and I ordered the mapo tofu since it's one of my favorite foods. I was so surprised that they had this dish because not a lot of Chinese cafes have it, especially in this area. I thought the portions were decent for under $10. I learned that it just opened recently, so I decided to try it out. It was a little past 2pm on a Saturday, and the place was half full. The staff were friendly and attentive as I was seated and handed a menu. There was a full menu and a Lunch Special menu. I chose the Shek Tong Tsui Fried Rice from the Lunch Special menu (which comes with a drink) and Pepper Salt Chicken Wings from the full menu. The drinks (Hot Tea and Iced Milk Tea) came out first. Next came the Fried Rice. It was tasty with a bit of spice. Then came the Chicken Wings which were piping hot and delicious. I'll be back to try out more of their menu. After the Taiwanese in me stopped crying, i asked if I could get the black pepper beef with spaghetti. The waitress said yes, so I ordered that to go, with the coffee/milk tea drink. Ten minutes later, my food was ready and I headed out. LESSON: Check your takeout before you leave! They had given me rice instead of spaghetti. I ordered for delivery and i was pretty surprised how fast it was, i arrived earlier than the estimated time. I ordered Six items for late dinner around 8:30 and it got there around 9. I ordered Young chow Fried Rice, Tom Yam Gong With shrimp Fried rice noodle, Singapore style Chow Mien, Sweet and sour pork, Walnut prawns, and dry fried ribs. Every thing was good, there was nothing extraordinary about it. I do have a complaint about the Dry fried ribs there were pieces that were just bones covered in flour which was a disappointment. The Price was okay pretty typical but i would order again. Other than that it was overall a good experience. read more
