    Tonkatsu ramen, no fish cake.
    Darin T.

Tried out Ji Bei Chuan after a buddy told me they had really good ramen. Kicked things off with the fried pork appetizer - it comes out looking kinda like calamari so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. But wowww, that 5 spice dipping powder it comes out with. Spicy, umami, super flavorful and gave me popcorn chicken vibes like from those Taiwanese boba spots. So good. Went with the tonkatsu ramen for the main. Broth was on the lighter side and not super creamy like some places, which I actually liked since it didn't leave me feeling heavy. Charsu was tasty but a touch overcooked. Still, whole bowl was really filling and hit the spot. Heads up, they can't make it spicy by default but they have chili oil on the table so you can DIY the heat. Service was great. Staff was really kind and checked in on us a bunch. There was a tiny bit of a language barrier but nothing that got in the way. Parking is street metered btw. Inside is super cute, gave off that clean, polished franchise feel (in a good way). Definitely wanna come back and try other stuff on the menu.

===TL;DR=== - H1. Fish maw chicken soup rice noodle + additional beef brisket as topping - D3. Tom yum kung beef sliced rice noodle soup ===TMI=== Oof. I don't even know where to start with this one so hold on tight. First off, moments after we sat down, the lady asked if we were ready to order. I told her not yet. She came back 2 other times and we were still not ready yet - thanks for the enthusiasm but that was the wrong timing. When we were ready, another guy came and took our order instead. In terms of the food.... It was cool. My noodle soup (fish maw) didn't felt as hot as I wanted it but it was ok. The chicken and briskets were tender, the soup was just a bit bland. Additionally, I spotted 1 morel mushroom (off the get-go) and like a piece of fish maw towards the end of my meal. My bf's tom yum noodle soup also seems alright. We ended up accompanying our meal with some chili oil that was already at our table since it helped boost some flavor. Now onto the aftermath. To preface, I haven't eaten anything before this meal and I have no food allergies. Now, the moment I left the restaurant, I immediately didn't feel well. Something felt like it was brewing inside me that just didn't sit right. Within minutes, I felt nauseous and weak on energy. I immediately went home because I knew I needed to puke. I threw up twice so I literally got either food poisoning or a stomach flu from this place and I felt horrible.

As sad as I am that the XiaoLongBao restaurant is gone, its successor, Ji Bei Chuan, is promising. I came here for lunch and got a beef shank ramen and a side order of scallion pancakes. Scallion pancakes are kind of thin and small, not the best I've had, not worth $6. The ramen was very good, with rich broth, springy QQ noodles, quite filling. I see myself returning, especially if I want ramen.

Been here twice. Both times ordered their clay pot rice combo. First time ordered Chinese sausage with pork ribs. A bit of a disappointment because the rice on the bottom was not crunch enough but instead, it was quite oily. Soup was a blast, it was Tea Tree Mushroom and Native chicken, very flavorful and rich in taste. Drink wasn't my cup of tea unfortunately. Second time ordered Chinese sausage clay pot rice, which was a lot better from before. There was still some crunch from the bottom of the pot and I considered good this time. Both time arrived with not much diners and had fast service. Tables to tables are really tight, not the best but is acceptable. Parking is pure luck since it is street parking, and if you are lucky you'd be able to find parking in front of the store. Overall with good experience and hopefully would keep coming back

Mala beef noodles Cucumber salad Fried pork

This is officially my go to place in San Leandro. I got the spicy beef mala noodles and man, they were actually very spicy! The portions were huge for the price as well and I'm so glad I tried this place. The noodles were nice and al dente, chewy yet not undercooked, the beef was super tender as well and very well coated with the mala broth spice and flavor. Normally, broth with mala spice in it is just that, spicy broth, but this one however actually had a lot of flavor in itself. I also got the fried pork and the seasoning that was given on the side was perfect. Crispy, yet light, the batter wasn't too heavy and wasn't too much. Overall, this place is beyond solid!

I've been wanting to try Ji Bei Chuan for a while since they offer ramen and other noodle soups. With the cold, rainy weather today, my partner and I decided it was the perfect time to stop by. We ordered the fried pork appetizer because so many Yelp reviews mentioned it and they were absolutely right. These were so good. They reminded me of Taiwanese popcorn chicken but with a lighter, crispier batter. Super addicting and for $7.99 the portion size is a steal. For my main, I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. It comes with three pieces of pork chashu, half an egg, fish cake, black fungus, bamboo shoots, corn, seaweed, and seaweed salad. I asked for no fish cake or black fungus. Honestly, I could have also done without the bamboo and seaweed salad. Seaweed salad just does not belong in ramen for me. The bamboo was also pretty tough instead of soft. The chashu was sliced quite thick, which made it taste a bit dry and chewy. Thinner slices would have made a big difference. Overall, the ramen was just okay. Not bad, but not something I would reorder. Next time I would probably try one of their other dishes like the tom yum noodle soup or a claypot. Service was great, friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Definitely still worth checking out, especially for that fried pork appetizer.

Called in an order for pick up, and was ready when I got there about 15 mins late. Pork Gyoza is very good better than most. Slice Beef Ramen with Tomato Broth with okay, the broth had a very light tomato taste, almost watered down. The ramen was good and the beef was tender. I would come back and try others on the menu.

A thousand times yes. O my word. I've had delicious ramen. But this took the cake. I was intoxicated after the 1st slurp. I got the tonkotsu ramen (spicy) & fried chicken wings. I haven't had the pleasure of having home cooked authentic ramen. So I don't know what a native would consider great. But to my personal taste, I don't think this place can be beat! At this point, I think I've found my favorite ramen spot. Im 100% content. This place is THAT good. The chicken wings were just as good. There is a longer turn around time for those. It came maybe 10min after I got my ramen. They were piping hot and very juicy. I will be back soon! This restaurant is a solid 10/10.

The clay pot rice was boomed. Right texture, delicious. The rice on bottom was crispy not hard or burnt. The cucumber salad was not very good, however there's no other veggie option on menu. Service was okay. A QR code for ordering but still offered table service. Overall table setting was tight. Not very comfortable. Street parking only.

Ji Bei Chuan opened where Xing Yuan Xiao Long Bao was. Totally renovated with a new wall mural, fresh paint. Seatings similar in 2 rooms. Steady flow of small groups. All Chinese. East street parking nearby. Service was slightly disjointed by late rush... Ji Bei Chuan reads season, north, river. No English translation available. English & Mandarin spoken, Cantonese understood, not spoken. All male servers. Offerings (Northern China): rice noodle dishes, ramen, double boil soups, clay pot. -speciality is fish maw rice noodle soup. Fish maw is a delicacy in Shanghai & South China. --fish maw is an gas filled organ inside large fish's, looks like an elongated balloon. Extracted, clean, dried, reconstituted in soups, entrees. Slurps: Sauerkraut Beef Tripe Rice Noodles (15.50) -came out in 10ish minutes. Got cold water, flavored tea. Latter diners got only water. Near closing? -all ingredients appear to be sourced from China re: quality control. -lotsa tender beef tripe pieces, bean curd, fried bean curd, black fungus, lettuce, small round Al dente round noods, chicken broth, preserved mustard green (suan chai). The latter flavors the broth. All contributed to a rich Unami broth without an hint of added sugar, sugar or oils. Tasted natural. Reminded me of home cooking. Ji Bei Chuan originates from Suzhou, China.

Good service brought good food and made for a good meal. We were after simple flavors for lunch. We were a bit concerned because other reviewers said that the staff didn't really speak English. I can speak some Cantonese, but Mandarin speakers will not understand me. Fortunately, the server we got spoke good English and we had no issues communicating. She got a Passionfruit Tea Blend to drink. I need to stay away from sugared drinks so didn't order anything besides the water that was served. We ordered: Chicken Wings - 5 - Crisp, hot, juicy, tender, delicious! Deep Fried Fish - 5 - A different crust from the Chicken Wings but just as crisp, hot, juicy, tender and delicious! Roast Duck Rice Noodle Soup - 5 - Essentially a nice bowl of noodle soup with Roast Duck. Can't go wrong with that. Chinese Sausage and Pork Sparerib Clay Pot Rice - 5 - Many restaurants offer Clay Pots but very few offer Clay Pot Rice. The difference is that the rice is cooked under the ingredients that you order. This way, the juices from all of the ingredients flavor the rice. Additionally, when done correctly, you also get the crunchy bits of rice similar to what the Spanish call Socarrat at the bottom of the Paella Pan. The flavors were very good, however the special soy sauce on the table was not as good as some that we've had served at other restaurants. That soy sauce is usually delivered to the table at the same time as the Clay Pot and is usually warm. All in all, this was a very good experience, and we will definitely be back to try additional dishes and flavors.

Tom Yum Soup with Beef Slices

Overall: 4.6/5 Came here for their $19.99 special (1 noodle soup, 1 appetizer, 1 drink) and it was such a great deal! My partner and I shared everything and left full and happy. Cold Cut Chicken - 9.5/10 Wow. This was the highlight of the meal! The chicken was super tender and that sauce was out of this world. We actually started dipping our beef slices from the soup into it just to get more of that flavor (no shame ). Honestly, I'll be dreaming about this dish tonight. Tom Yum Soup with Beef - 8.5/10 The soup packed so much flavor and the beef slices were tender, soaking up all that spicy, tangy goodness. Generous portion size too! Lychee Boba Oolong Tea - 7.5/10 Refreshing and tasty, but a bit too sweet for my preference. I wish I had the option to choose a sweetness level (wasn't asked at ordering). Still enjoyable though! Service - 9/10 Staff were friendly and attentive, refilled our water without us asking, and the food came out quickly. Couldn't ask for more. Overall, for under $20 this was an amazing value. Great flavors, great service, and I'll 100% be coming back, especially for that cold cut chicken!

Fish Maw and chicken soup rice noodles
    Yuran Z.

This restaurant took over an older Chinese restaurant and it brings a completely different modern vibe even though both were Chinese food restaurants. Parking is the same you either have to park in the street or nearby plaza and walk over. We got the fish maw chicken soup rice noodles and beef brisket dried noodles and both were delicious. The fish maw noodles is one of its kind around this area in the nearby cities and has a unique taste. The soup is flavorful with the fish maw as a base. You can definitely tell they didn't cheap out on the fish maw but it's not too overwhelming either. It can be a new experience for some people because you honestly don't see that much fish maw dishes in the area. The dried noodles dish tastes typical of those dried noodle at other restaurant but still really good. The spice is of those mala flavor which some people like and some people might find it too overwhelming. Staff is very friendly and the service is quick. Will definitely come back if we're craving it again!

I originally came to Fusion Delight because of the purple interior…read more Seriously. The giant lotus chandeliers, the deep violet lighting, the old-school banquet hall atmosphere - it immediately reminded me of the large Cantonese restaurants that used to define family dining in the Bay Area years ago. But after eating here during a packed weekend dinner service, I realized the real attraction is not the decor. It is the operational consistency. The dining room was completely full, with a long line of people still waiting outside. Under that kind of pressure, many large Chinese restaurants start losing control somewhere: fried dishes soften, stir-fries lose wok hei, food arrives unevenly, service becomes rushed. Fusion Delight somehow keeps the system together. And what impressed me even more was that the staff never became impatient. Even with the restaurant running at full capacity, the servers stayed friendly, patient, and organized. No chaos, no attitude - just steady service under pressure. That is not easy in a restaurant this size. The Mongolian beef was the first thing that stood out. Instead of thin slices hidden under sauce, the beef here is cut unusually thick and long - some pieces nearly two inches. Thick-cut beef is risky because once overcooked it immediately turns tough, but here the meat stayed tender while still carrying proper wok sear and caramelization. That tells me the kitchen understands heat control and timing. The crispy pork intestines were even more impressive. These were clearly braised first, then fried before the final stir-fry. The outside kept its gelatin-rich texture while the inside still carried fat and aroma, but without the unpleasant odor that ruins this dish at weaker restaurants. Even people who normally avoid intestine dishes could probably eat this version comfortably. That level of cleaning and pre-processing matters. The braised lamb with skin was another old-school banquet dish done correctly. The lamb was soft without collapsing, while the skin still retained structure. More importantly, the prep work was meticulous -- no gamey smell, no rough trimming, no shortcuts. The sea cucumber and pork tendon dish also showed strong banquet-kitchen fundamentals. The pork tendon had clearly been oil-expanded beforehand, giving it that proper soft and elastic texture instead of rubbery chewiness. The sea cucumber still retained bite and structure. The Singapore-style rice noodles and scallop egg white fried rice were textbook Cantonese banquet staples. The rice noodles stayed dry and separated while still carrying wok aroma and oil fragrance. The scallop egg white fried rice looked simple, but every grain remained distinct and lightly coated without clumping together. That level of consistency under volume is difficult. Even the red bean dessert soup at the end was handled carefully. The red beans still held their shape instead of dissolving into paste, while the sago remained fully intact and translucent. Most restaurants stop caring once dessert leaves the kitchen. Fusion Delight clearly does not. And honestly, that may be the best way to describe this restaurant overall. Fusion Delight is not trying to be trendy. It is not trying to become minimalist fine dining. It is not trying to be social-media bait. This is a high-volume Chinese banquet restaurant operating with old-school Cantonese production discipline. Hot food arrives hot. Fried dishes stay crisp. Wok hei survives peak hours. Plating still looks intentional during a packed dinner service. That kind of consistency is harder than people think. And somehow, inside a giant purple dining room filled wall-to-wall with families, they make it work. - Dr. C Purple room approved. Wok heat calibrated. Banquet discipline detected. Consistency at scale = correct.

Visited here with my friends on a Wednesday morning…read more The restaurant opens at 10:30 AM, and we arrived a bit early--there were already a few customers waiting outside. However, within about an hour, the restaurant was almost full. Even though it wasn't the weekend, it was still very busy. This is one of my favorite dim sum spots because the food is consistently delicious, especially the siu mai--it's a must-try! The service is fast and friendly, which makes the experience even better. There is also plenty of parking, which is a big plus. The restaurant is spacious, with beautiful purple lighting that really catches the eye. The high ceiling also makes the space feel very open and comfortable. Although this place doesn't have the highest ratings on Yelp, it's definitely still very popular and worth visiting.

We quickly realized that a lot of people who entered were placing their names on a clipboard to the left. We did the same and the wait time was about 10min. The waiters call your name based on tables available. So 2-3 people usually get called up first. Bigger parties get called once tables are available. So if you have a bigger party on the weekend, be prepared to wait. You can also place an order at the register if you choose takeout, no need to wait. We got seated pretty fast and were handed menus right away. The waitress also brought us cups and water. The menu looked amazing. We ended up ordering the following: 1. Beef stew with crispy noodles - 7/10 we went with the pictured selection instead of rice and I think rice would have been q better option. The dish itself was huge and really good. 2. Tomyum spaghetti - 9/10 this portion was HUGE. The tomyum mixed with spaghetti was really good. 3. Hot coffee - 10/10 my husbands favorite. They sweeten this ahead of time. 4. There's usually a pretty good line right by the register, so this place is pretty well known by the Asian locals. Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup ($16/2*) First outing here I sat for lunch and tried this. Surprisingly disappointing seeing how busy and popular this place is. The wontons were okay, decent flavor with a strong sesame oil presence. But they weren't that plump and luxurious, just seemed like homemade/amateur versions. Which is fine, except given the nicer restaurant feel, I just expected something more elevated. The noodles were fine, super thin egg noodles that had a nice QQ. BUT their broth was so bland and unremarkable that it kinda ruined the whole experience. I couldn't even taste/detect the protein that made up the stock, just tasted like murky liquid to me. And zero condiments on the table, so I just ate the wontons and the plain tasting noodles cuz the broth couldn't offer anything to the noodles. Womp womp. And their bowl of choice is very weird to eat from. Super tall bowl that if you leave a spoon in there it will sink and be submerged for you to fish out...in piping hot liquid. If I would have reviewed this place just on this one visit, then it surely would have been a sub 3* rating. But I knew I couldn't leave my impression with that one lone visit. Roast Duck - Half ($20/4*) Came back for some take-out deli items and I was handsomely rewarded. Total 180 experience from the soup outing. Their ducks here are slightly more expensive than most others for the area. But it is still worth it imo. They cut it with good skill and even for a take-out box they present it nicely, with the shape of duck still somewhat intact. The skin is not crisp at all but it is very well rendered. Some pieces were not that salty at all but some other pieces are well seasoned, which I thought was strange. But overall a very solid roast duck is to be found here. There's also a big scoop of these tiny beans that are slightly sweet almost like baked beans just not as gloopy. But the bean texture is very al dente, almost crunchy, which I found very strange. Macao Roast Pork w/ Rice ($19/4.5*) This is crazy good...I'll even say special. Super seasoned pork belly is roasted til the skin gets crisp...like chicharon status, except it is just a very thin layer of crispness. So the balance between the sturdy crunch and juicy flavorful meat was practically perfect. It is definitely on the salty side, almost the same intenseness as eating Spam with white rice, but white rice offsets those salty components beautifully. And they garnish this massive plate with perfectly blanched gai lan (Chinese Broccoli) and some other pickled greens that add a nice sweet and tangy component. So between the decadent pork, white rice and diverse greens offerings just made this a complete one stop shop that could make a regular out of me. There's also a Share Tea next door so I've got a harmonious tandem going on here. Lucky Ducky Me yassss!

You will love this authentic Chinese place. The food presentation is on par with how it tastes. The…read moredishes are just wonderful and reminded me how they should taste, unlike the other Chinese café nearby. The service is what you'd expect--typical Chinese efficiency, which is no-nonsense, LOL. No chitchat, just serve. Don't expect your food to come faster than the to-go line, FYI. They don't treat in-house customers as a priority. I'll go back to this place whenever I have a chance. Order ahead if you're in a rush--this is not a fast place. But you can always count on their quality.

Open on Christmas Day. One of the few places open that takes reservations for large parties. We had…read morea party of 17 and wasn't sure where we were going to eat. It was so nice to eat locally and have a good meal with great parking. They are in the Safeway shopping center and share a lot with them. The place is clean and bright, very inviting. Most of the party arrived before us so we were able to easily find our table. We were set next to the fish take, by the kitchen. It was a good arrangement. We had 2 tables with identical entrees. We ordered: Green Beans, Salt and pepper chicken wings, shrimp fried rice (Everyone's least favorite dish), Chow Fun, duck, and probably some other dishes. The green beans were the best dish. The chicken wings were good, but not as flavorful as people hoped, they probably won't be ordered again. The fired rice was a big disappointed, it had shrimp in it, but it lacked flavor. We didn't get a soup. We also had a steamed fish which was really good, coming from a not big fish fan. It was seasoned with soy sauce and was a big hit with the table. Even my picky nephew ate some. We also had calamari, it wasn't a big hit, we didn't even take it home with the leftovers. We all got tea and we asked for ice water for everyone which was drank along with the tea. If you request it they will bring out forks, my brother in law made the request. I was impressed even the kids used chopsticks. I definitely reccomend this restaurant. Especially for large groups. It's set up for banquets. I can't comment on the bathroom, because we didn't use it.

I came here on the weekend around noon with some friends and this place was packed. Surprisingly,…read morethere was no one in line and we were seated right away. I guess this was when it started to get less busy. Within an hour, half the diners were already gone. Service was a little slow. They did not have enough servers working all the tables. Our server barely came back to check in on us. The only thing we needed were extra tea refills. The food on the other hand came out in a timely manner and were steaming hot when they got to our table. We ordered about a dozen dishes and they were all delicious. My favorite dish was the Golden Tofu Cube with Salted Egg. It was a little salty and the inside was soft while the outside was crispy. I also liked the Stir Fried XO Sauce Rice Rolls. It was flavorful, tender and I thought they used the right amount of sauce for my liking. The dining area was quite big. It looked like they had just hosted a party the night before since their speakers equipment were still out. This place did have a parking lot which might look big but it could easily fill up during their busy hours. I was lucky to find an open spot when I got here.

I used to go there years ago and it was really good. Not sure what's happened in the years since…read morebut it is really, really bad. The baked pork buns are good - slightly different in that there's no glaze on them but the outside was crispy and the inside tender and the filling was tasty - they are why I'm giving 2 stars. The honey walnut prawns were inedible - the sauce was hard lumpy globs sitting randomly on top of fried shrimps, truly disgusting. The scallion pancakes were not crispy or flaky - Trader Joe's are better. The tofu rolls were cold on one side, like refrigerator cold, while the other side was lukewarm. The jellyfish salad had no flavor whatsoever, just the very slightest hint of sesame. No salt, nothing. The seaweed salad was decent. The deep fried mochi puffs with meat filling were bad. The outer shell was too thick so the inside was uncooked and doughy. Inedible. And, the cold chicken feet were so tough they were in edible. I didn't know you could make chicken feet like that, so tough. Again not really any flavor, they were just tossed with a little bit of chili sauce and hardly any of that. And no vinegar chili sauce for dipping. I would not recommend.
