Toad was Monday . We went to Koi Palace in Dublin for lunch . It had a lot of tables cause we arrived early like 11:15 am . We were being seated right the way by the nice big window table. I enjoyed the service there . Without asking , they gave us the serving chop stick , a pot of tea ( we requested Iron Buddha tea leaves) and an extra pot of hot water to keep the tea pot filled . We ordered the soup dumplings with fish mew in high soup . It tasted great . Many restaurants don't have this item or they made it not as good . The high soup is tasty and the ingredients had a lot of seafood and shrimp . Fish mew was good size . I wan impressed when we asked for small ceramic bowl to share the food , they gave us two heated bowls . Just like you wanted beer in the club and they gave you an iced mug . To keep the high soup and soup dumplings in high temperatures, it tasted better . We have the following dim sum : Steamed chicken feet in black bean suave with pork ribs 蒸鳳爪排骨 Pan fried shrimp dumplings with chives牛煎韮菜餃 Stairs fried sticky rice with dried shrimp and Chinese sausage , large size . A dinner menu item 生炒糯米飯。大碟 X O sauce and pan fried daikon cake 煎蘿蔔糕伴XO 醬 Stewed beef belly 牛雜 Steamed bean curb skin roll with black mushroom 齋燒鵝 Red bean coconut cake ( dessert ) 5/5 for all dim sum Nicely made and all tasted excellent. I like this Koi Palace better than the one in Milpitas . It has much better customer services . Before the main dinning hall , it has many more rooms attached to the main dinning area. You can reserve rooms for private events or family gathering . You can also make reservations on line or by phone to reserve your table . So you dominates to wait , just walk up to the check in counter and bring seated . I usually make my reservations 3 days in advance to make sure I can get the large table. Each time father dinning , this Koi Palace give you a coupon ( % of your total price of the meal ) and you have 14 days to use it to pay for the next meal here . What a wonderful idea ! Came by on a weekday for lunch and the restaurant wasn't too crowded, which was surprising. The location here is a bit confusing - you have to take an escalator to the 2nd floor. IMO, the dim sum here is much better than the entrees. The beef chow fun was just okay and it was a bit overpriced at $24. Also note, the tea here is delicious, but they charge $2/person. I have been ordering togos from Koi Palace recently. While the food tasted great, it usually takes 20mins + for me to be able to pick up my food even after the Fantuan app shows that my food is ready to pick up. They should definitely look into it. It has been many years since I have been back here. Came here recently with my boyfriend and his relatives. It was a Sunday evening and they were not packed. We ordered 9 dishes. Food came out fast. This was a pre-set menu for Lunar New Year meant for larger parties. There were 10 courses total priced at $988 for everything. The courses ranged from some more common dishes such as the roasted Peking duck to more delicacy items such as the lobster over egg white which was topped with Bird Nest (a luxury item made from the saliva of Swiftlets). While it did take a bit for the service to begin, once it did it was like clockwork coming out regularly. Some dishes were quite good while others met expectations but that was about it. The price is certainly set for the sheer amount of food presented as opposed to the experience or caliber. Other than dishes being delivered, service was inconsistent and at times hard to get a hold of, we had to as for water and never got a refill on that (however the tea was refilled many times through out the dinner) Their desserts were definitely the stand out as they were quite delicious, I'd definitely recommend the golden egg custard bun. read more

Really disappointed with a recent visit. Koi Palace used to be a go-to, but the food quality has noticeably dropped. Ordered some of our usual dim sum staples and they just felt rushed and lacking in flavor. A bunch of them taste like they were premade and now heated up. This place used to have lines out the door shortly after the opening time but now it still has plenty of seating on a Saturday around lunch time. Luckily, it's not that busy around 11:30 a.m. We were a party of 2, and when we arrived, the staff advised us to go to Suite 219 to check in. Once we reached the door, we were seated quickly. We ordered serveral dishes, including BBQ pork rice rolls, crispy fried tofu skin wraps with shrimp, deep-fried sesame balls, and the Rainbow Sampler Shanghai Dumplings (turmeric skin with crab roe, squid ink skin with black truffle, spinach skin with kale, paprika skin with chicken, beet skin with minced beef, and juicy pork). UGH. So disappointed in my experience here. I been here numerous times before and I used to love it but it really fell off. The quality was so bad and the service was even worse. I pointed out an item that was wrong and the server literally told me to "eat it anyways" when I brought it up. I was so confused to the point where I didn't even know what to say. The dim sum at Koi Palace is simply outstanding. Fresh, high-quality ingredients, and delicious. Prices are slightly higher compared to other dim sum restaurants but worth the cost and worth the long wait time if you happen to come at a busy time. We've visited on weekdays and weekends. Food is outstanding no matter the day. They are organized and get you seated efficiently. The ambiance is warm and comfortable. I've only had good service and great overall experiences. Since they're located in a strip mall, there are plenty of parking spaces despite the numerous stores and other restaurants. Almost two decades since my last review, dim sum continues to impress at Koi Palace. KP still holds its own in a competitive shootout with Mayflower and new comer Pearl Bay Manor. The food is still great, and the advantage is the service. The seasoned staff at Koi Palace are quick to bus dishes and provided 4 plate changes, refilled hot water in tea kettles twice in a single lunch. This is the advantage of being the vetran pros of the dim sum game. The dining room of KP has a classy cozy vibe and for over 20 years Koi Palace has anchored the Ulferts Center with great food. In my family, if you don't eat fast then you don't eat at all. So I had to take pics of our dim sum fast! Our favorite place was Willow Tree in Dublin, which closed years ago when the owners retired. Koi Palace then became our go-to. We even recognize some of the wait staff from Willow Tree there. Overall the dim sum is really good! Standouts were the har gow where the shrimp was very plump and the fried taro that had a lot of umami flavor. It's a large space that's split in two sections. It can get noisy, which is expected. There's two spaces, and it seems the back space has tables for larger groups. This place can get very popular during peak hours. We were there around an hour and a half before closing and were seated right away. But we've waited at least 40mins in the past. One thing I'd like to note is their service charge. I know that's a controversial topic. I'm of the opinion that restaurants should have service charge, like many countries do already, in order for employees to have living wage. I don't think it's right that someone should have to rely on tips in order to survive. But here they have an 18% service charge that doesn't include the tip. There are signs about it up front, but we didn't read them since we were seated right away. So just a heads up when you get your check. read more

We ordered the beef chow fun and it was one of the best I've had. It is a little pricey but worth the price. The noodles were softer and lighter than I've had at other restaurants. The beef was very tender and there was a lot of bean sprouts which I liked. We also ordered the Deep fried salt and pepper capelin. My husband liked it but I didn't but that's personal preference. As always, Koi Palace never disappoints. Everything here is delicious, especially my favorite - the supreme soy sauce noodles! Taste is authentically Chinese, service is great, and the interior is just really nice. So many good options to choose from. Another great dish is the salt and pepper tofu - it's this super soft tofu coated in this golden shell with amazing flavor. Usually, I go to the Koi Palace in Daly city but I happen to be in East Bay and went with a group of seven for weekend dim sum. Was surprised that it wasn't busy with a line out of the door as I have seen for Koi Palace in general so we were actually seated right away, even with our larger size group. Presented with the menu where you use a pencil to write down how many orders of every item you would like. We of course, went with a lot of the classics that you would expect from typical dim sum. My favorites were the lo mai gai, which featured sticky rice with meat and veggies wrapped within a lotus leaf, as well as the cheung fu rice noodle rolls. Had the barbecue pork and the shrimp, but I prefer the shrimp. Their steamed dumpling items were very solid and I don't think there was one that I disliked. I think the only dish I was a bit underwhelmed by was the baked barbecue pork bun with a sugar crust. It seemed a little smaller than other places I've had it, and I wish that the crust was a bit more textural and crunchy. Service was efficient and the food rolled out quickly upon arrival. Koi Palace continues to be one of my go to dim sum spots across multiple locations. read more

Dinner for 4 on a Friday night, overall good flavors (light on seasoning), superb service, comfortable dining experience. +Our favorite- fried egg tofu medallions on pea sprouts. The wok hey was amazing. Not too oily and covered in a light gravy +Runner up- wagyu beef cubes in lime sauce. Beautiful presentation, tender beef with slightly crispy exterior. The sauce was slightly sweet and very appetizing +Honorable mention: concubine chicken (kwai fei chicken). Refreshing and flavorful. +Meets all expectations- seafood crispy noodles, lotus root stir fry with pig neck meat -Needs help- goose feet, fish maw, sea cucumber braised in abalone sauce. The sauce is amazing, but the ingredients did not soak in the sauce long enough to carry the flavor in. The sea cucumber was pretty flavorless and still pale white on the inside. The goose feet also a bit light on the flavor and pale looking. Portions were reasonably sized and we had a lot to take home. The wait staff were extra tentative. read more

I honestly don't know how this place only has 3.5 stars--because for us, it's a go-to spot for delicious, classic dim sum, and the fact that it gives Rakuten points on top? That's just icing on the dumpling. It's located upstairs with a pretty spacious layout, and while it's not super flashy, it does the job with room to spare. My wife usually handles all the ordering (in Cantonese, shoutout to her!), so I can't name every item we devoured--but trust me, we got down. My one gripe is more of a nostalgic one: I miss the old-school dim sum carts rolling around the dining floor, letting you pick what looks good right on the spot. Now, like most places post-COVID, it's a menu-and-order system. It's efficient, but just doesn't hit the same vibe-wise. That said, dim sum is dim sum, and here--it's legit. All the favorites are here, everything comes out hot and fast, and the staff is always on top of service: clearing plates, topping off water, and making sure the table stays clean. Haven't been back to this Koi Palace for years and it was surprisingly good. The atmosphere is nice and peaceful, with tables spaced out at a comfortable distance. Service was very attentive and friendly. There were five of us and we ordered a wide variety of dim sum: shrimp dumplings, pan fried daikon cake with XO sauce, crispy fried tofu skin wrap with shrimp, steamed pork and veggie in tofu skin wrap and oyster sauce, chicken claws in black bean sauce, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, ginkgo nuts and pea vines with tofu skin in premium broth, sticky rice in lotus leaves, crispy fried taro puffs, freshly roasted BBQ pork royale, stewed beef gizzards, etc. Everything tasted good and authentic. The standout was the BBQ pork, really tender, juicy, and tasty. Prices are on the high side, but at least quality was good. Excellent service compared to most Chinese restaurants. Ambiance in the main dining room is also very nice. The food quality and taste are five stars, and on par with Hong Kong standards! I feel grateful for this establishment in the bay area. I love their soup dumplings variety, sticky rice lotus leaf wrap, tofu fa (tofu dessert), fried donut wrapped with rice noodle, and fried tofu. I can't find another place that sells tofu fa in the bay area, especially after covid, and am grateful they continue to offer this menu item. They seem to have put a lot of thoughts into the dishes, and have a separate special menu for lunchtime as well. This is by far the best dim sum restaurant in the bay area. The newer Peninsula in Castro Valley and Pearl Bay in Dublin are so much worse in comparison, both in terms of taste and service. read more

I more so order from the budget friendly Koi Palace Express; which is also why this is a 3-star rating. Koi Palace is on the pricier side for what it is (ie: good quality, average taste, mixed feelings on portion size). They always package well tho and have cool containers that can vent the food that needs to stay crispy, and they're really good about remembering all the sauces and dips. Food quality and portion sizes have clearly declined. The pea wine w/ tofu skin were completely bland, and the steamed pork ribs came with only six small pieces. The biggest issue was the pricing. Our food total was about $70, but the final bill came to $92, nearly a 30% increase. This included a mandatory 18% service charge that was never verbally disclosed. Only after questioning the bill were we shown a small note hidden in the bottom corner of the menu (see photo). The notice states that this service charge is not a gratuity, but is used by management to cover operational costs, including employee wages and benefits. This is extremely easy to miss and feels misleading and non-transparent. Between the declining food quality and the hidden mandatory charges, this experience was unacceptable. Fried mango milk- THIS WAS THE BIGGEST SURPRISE OF THE MEAL! By the time the dessert came out, we were already full and we had never heard or tried of this but despite that, this was surprisingly delicious! I love anything fried, so the fried shell was perfectly crunchy, similar to fish and chips kinda fried with a lighter color. Inside is really hot pudding like milk, with lots of flavor. The inside reminds me of shuang pei nai (another chinese dessert). Really delicious. Be careful of spilling ha ha Lo mai gai- a classic, delicious Shrimp churn fun- as good as I remember. Oddly enough they have the sauce on the side. I'd just pour it all over them before eating for the best experience tho Pork chive dumpling- same as I remember, personally not a fan Potaticker- was surprisingly high quality, super browned but not burnt, super crispy bottom, beautiful bottom that they are proud to show it. Hot fresh juice inside, as usual be careful its hot Congee- is a classic, wished the chicken didnt have bones in it. The deep-fried Sampan hargao were mostly skin, some of the rainbow xlb flavors were hard to swallow, and the xo sauce topped spinach dumplings were falling apart upon arrival. Specifically, Pork Ribs in Black Bean Sauce and Chicken Claw in Black Bean Sauce. I don't think I've ever been to this location, but I've been to the one in Daly City a bunch of times. It's honestly been a long time since I went, but the two dishes from Dublin were tasty. The sauce was super flavorful. The pai gwat (pork ribs) meaty and the feng zhao (chicken feet) chewy. Also, since the parents grabbed it for takeout, they weren't charged sales tax. I'd say good place to grab dim sum takeaway. Wouldn't mind actually sitting down to yum cha in the future.
