Not to be hyperbolic, but this is the best Chinese spot in Dublin if not the East Bay (though the latter would be an especially absurdly bold claim) and anyone who says otherwise is a blithering idiot. That's not my opinion, that's an indisputable objective fact. Go argue with a newly painted wall. The two things I liked most in the three or so times I've eaten here are the Princess Chicken (which is sweet, slightly tangy, and crispy) and the fish fillets in black bean sauce. I appreciated the abundance of vegetables in the latter dish since I need to increase my fiber intake but it needed more fish fillet. There wasn't enough of it tonight. But it was delicious. I apologize to the owner for leaving my poor rating, but this may prove helpful to some of your customers. We had high hopes based on the overall rating - we ordered: Kung Pao Chicken, House Special Chow Mein and Sauteed Green Beans with Pork (these may not be the actual names of the dishes, but this describes what I remember). All three were very generous portions with simple ingredients, extremely greasy, with very little unique flavors. The green beans were simple and almost a 4 star, the chow mein had a lot of ingredients, but lacked distinct flavors, all smothered in oil which may have masked any inherent flavors, the same basically with the kung pao - it had lots of chicken and bell peppers, but lacked any spice although whole small red peppers were included, none of the taste of which became part of the total, I tried biting one, but they appeared very dry, no knives were provided, so I could not cut any open, very few peanuts, again the excess oil may have been smothering any flavor. I had the alleged Sichuan lunch special with the beef slices - ordered from the lunch menu. Beef slices were not abundant and they had a damp texture as if they've been doing hot yoga before I got there. I had to add spicy oil to the old looking fried rice. Despite my personal experience in Sichuan, there was no spice whatsoever, but there was a conference of an independent Bland Sauce across everything. I went inside today and this was my second time dealing with the same server. This is a new place for us and after our first visit we have usually ordered to go because the food is really good. The staff overall are very nice and welcoming. Unfortunately this server was the only negative experience I have had here. She was very rude and arrogant and honestly seemed disturbed in her demeanor. I refunded my food before receiving the item. I did speak with management about it because I did not want to leave without addressing the issue. I feel bad giving a low rating because the food and most of the staff are great, but this interaction was uncomfortable enough that it needs to be mentioned. First of all, this place is not authentic Chinese food. It is heavily Americanized Chinese food that definitely is heavy on the sodium. Setting that expectation off the bat, Mandarin Delight was indeed a delight to dine at. We arrived around 6pm on a Sat, and the place was pretty empty and still had quite a few available tables to sit at. The restaurant itself is not that big, especially with the kitchen located on the dining floor and taking up a 3rd of the floorplan. But as we started eating, we noticed this place filled up really quickly by the time we were done. The staff here is friendly enough, and do a great job of clearing out plates and getting you your check when ready. The food prices here are very reasonable, and the portion sizes quite large.
