    Hot and Sour Soup
    Yeebing T.

I came here with a family member for lunch as we had passed by Pleasanton while on the way to another city and wanted to get some food before we got there. The place wasn't too crowded at the time I went (I think it was near opening time), but it had a nice calm ambiance and the servers were really friendly. We decided to get the Dragon City Chow Fun and Hoisan String Beans. Both of them had a nice flavor to them that managed to be savory without being too salty and bringing the thirsty feeling that I usually get from having Chinese food, and the food came with a complimentary hot and sour soup that tasted really nice. It's not a soup that we normally get to have often, so it was nice to get the chance to try again. Everything was also affordable, with the portion sizes being relatively big and worth the amount that we paid for. The two dishes we ordered might've been a little bit much for two people (a lot of Chinese restaurants tend to have bigger dish portions due to the fact that you're intended to share the food with others and Dragon City is no exception to this), so do keep that mind if you decide to go, Overall a very pleasant experience. I would be more than happy to return on the off-chance I end up in Pleasanton again.

    Mapo with brown rice

I had a craving for some good Chinese food and this place was a favorite when we lived here so decided to stop in while we were in town. The server was attentive and sweet. We had never had their lunch special before and were surprised to see such a robust lunch menu. There were so many items that looked great. We decided on: - Mapo tofu with brown rice - Elite eggplant with fried rice Their lunches come with soup and a choice of either a salad or egg roll. You can also choose from fried rice, brown rice or white rice. My mapo was good and spicy! Their hot and sour soup, salad and brown rice made it a very satisfying meal. My husband's elite eggplant was delicious. It had shrimp and chicken in a tasty sauce. His egg roll was crispy and hot and his fried rice was light and well made. Our server was attentive and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. We will not hesitate to come back when we're in town.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. We parked in the back where there was tons of parking so that was nice. It was pretty quiet there was one other table when we were there. We ordered soups for appetizers. They are huge and not just all broth mine was loaded with shrimp, chicken, and beef. Tons of wontons and veggies. The chow mein was super flavorful and also a large portion more than enough to share. We also got the eggplant which had such a good flavor and also loaded with shrimp and chicken. We might have found our new favorite spot by us. Prices are slightly less than other places but the portions and flavors are great! We really enjoyed it and will be coming back to try more items.

Tucked in a building with various businesses, we've driven past this many times. So happy Yelpers' review sent us here. The dining hall is simple but aesthetically pleasant. It makes for a relaxed dining experience. We chose popular Chinese dishes, comfort food : sweet & sour pork for me, prawns in lobster sauce. The lunch specials only came with rice options - steam white, brown & fried and egg roll or salad. Our plates were of good portions. The sweet & pork is as I expected - crunchy coat with well seasoned meat inside. It had pineapples which really makes the difference. It satisfied my craving for sure! Hubby's prawn & lobster sauce was delicious. He prefers the sauce to be more creamy though. He still enjoyed it. Both plates were $15.75 each which we thought was reasonable for the quality & portion. We may check out other lunch specials from that very long list!

Yum! We went in for a late night bite and had the best orange chicken! I highly recommend the orange chicken and chow mein it's soo good. The Green onion pancakes can be skipped and same with the string bean chicken. It wasn't my favorite. The service was wonderful they really made you feel at home. The resturant was clean and spacious!

Came here for lunch on a Friday and there was no wait. I found free parking on the street. It is in their cute downtown boulevard. The service was friendly and fast and patient (we took a while to order). They never rushed us out and I saw other people there also were there catching up for over an hour. The place was clean and comfortable. The menu is huge and we all loved our food. I ordered the duck chow mein and I left no crumbs! The food was fresh and it didn't feel greasy or heavy. They have a long list of lunch specials. We will definitely be back!

The food was amazing and service was exceptional here! Kind of pricey but it's to be expected for being in downtown Pleasanton. Our server was very sweet, patient, and attentive. Everything we ordered was just delicious. Very flavorful and fresh. I regret not getting a photo of every dish we ordered! The restaurant itself was nice and clean. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area. Thank you for the great lunch!

I had lunch here on a Monday of summer '25. Since it wasn't busy I parked in the teeny tiny rear. It was 2:55 pm and I asked if I made the luncheon special cutoff and he said yes. First of all the location is super great , but the scarce parking there is street parking also. It probably gets an issue on weekends and busy meal times. You can actually drive by and not notice this place and the sign is small and doesn't really standout . It's next to a small nail salon and a tiny watch repair shop. Inside is fairly large plenty of tables. As for the food the superb ratings are legit. I ordered the 3 Kung Pao combo. The hot sour soup and egg roll were also good. It was unique the fact the dish had a smoky and charred like taste which I found really tasty and to my liking. It was fresh and was large enough portion for under $20. Service is great they refill water and ask if you need anything . Hot oil chili sauce is on the table along with soy sauce . I would definitely recommend this place. Glad I found this family run gem and will definitely be on my go to for Chinese take out or a family dinner. Five stars all the way

I have been curious about this place for long while. As my first visit, it was late lunch around 2they have an extensive menu. It has a decent sized dining room and the was singly focused on the Szechuan chicken and garlic noodles. So I had something specific in mind. Of course, expectations and reality can be quite different. On the menu for the chicken dish has an option for fried or stir fried method. The chicken was minced with plenty of gravy/sauce and sprinkled with chopped red pepper. The spiciness sneak up after a few bites, it was fairly mild. Although I had something else in mind, this dish was nonetheless very tasty. The garlic noodle was a mountain of noodles with soft taste of garlic. It was nicely cooked with appropriate thickness. Although it was quite acceptable, i felt it needed little something to give a flavor boost. The service was pleasant. Overall a nice experience.

TLDR: Good Chinese American Food. Great Onion Pancake My wife and I really struggled with this review. On one hand, we really do want to support small family-owned restaurants. My parents had owned 2 restaurants (not at the same time), so I know the struggle. However, on the other hand, I also want to give my honest review. Mostly for myself, so I can remember if I been to a restaurant before, and what I thought of it. Let's address the big elephant in the room. This isn't a Chinese restaurant catering to Chinese people. You can tell right away, if they have forks as a setting. I'm not saying Chinese don't use forks... it depends on the dish being served. If it's on a plate, then yes by all means, use a fork. For EVERYTHING else, it's chopsticks. At least there wasn't sugar dispensers, soy sauce, and chili on the tables as well! The waitress was very friendly and nice. She spoke to us in English, although we could hear her talking in Mandarin to the back. The restaurant was very clean and a bit artsy. The onion pancake was DELICIOUS. It's kinda home-made, which is great. I've had many supermarket-reheated pancakes before. This was handmade, with LOTS of onions. The outside was flaky, and it wasn't too doughy at all. We both loved it! I liked the chicken wings myself. We ordered the sauce on the side, because my wife can't handle spicy anymore. The sauce wasn't that spicy... it had a bit of a kick to it. The sauce was a bit more runnier than a normal sticky chicken sauce. I think it would probably taste even better if the sauce was cooked with the chicken. But I thought the chicken was cooked well, the meat tender. The wonton soup was... just... mediocre. Very "americanized". The wonton skin is very thick, and the soup didn't have any depth of flavor. It was just chicken broth. Lastly, we had the Eastern Style Boneless Ribs. In chinese, it was called "Wuxi Spareribs". Oh! My grandparents are from there! I love that dish, let's get it! What we got was actually... BBQ pork (Char siu) with rice. That was a complete let-down. We were both a bit flummoxed by THAT decision. And the bbq pork wasn't that great, to be honest. All the meat was chopped up, almost minced. If you are Chinese person, looking for REAL Chinese... this place isn't for you. You'd be better off going to the Chinese center near the outlets. However, if you are looking for a bit of Asian in the classy part of town, then give this a shot.

Had been here on Christmas day. Eating Chinese food has become almost our annual family ritual When most of the businesses are closed, you get to discover these hidden gems! And we are glad we did. It is your usual neighborhood kind of eatery without much of frills. Staff were friendly. Service was good. Prices were decent. Menu was not out of the ordinary but food was. They took care of our special requests and prepared the food with care. It was presented well and also tasted such.My personal favorite was garlic noodle. It was well cooked and very flavorful. Appetizers were well made too. We ordered vegetarian food. Spice level was exactly as we requested. I liked the way they asked about our preferred spice level on a scale of 1 to 5! Entres were a bit on the greasier side and a bit more sweeter than I would have wanted. I will ensure to ask them to tone it down for me next time. And that means, we will be visiting this place again ! Thanks to the staff at Dragon City. You guys ensured we didn't go hungry on a special day and how !

No I called and asked last week

Do they serve authentic Chinese food or Americanized style? From the menu I'd probably guess "both" but it is sometimes hard to tell.

I would venture that it could be a little on the Americanized side, not being a bad thing necessarily, but... I would bet that they would be very accomodating in preparing something you are familiar with and wanted to request.

I just wish there were more chunks of beef that were included - the dish is very carb heavy. We also shared a plate of the pig ear appetizer which is soaked in a rich chili oil. If you like more of the chewy/cartilaginous type of texture, which I do, this dish is absolutely amazing. Overall, would recommend this spot if you're looking for a comfort meal.

Seeing CA Noodle show up on our yelp search and it was nearby, we decided to check it out. The location is pretty convenient, located in a plaza that shares parking spaces with several other restaurants and a McDonald's. The inside only seats about 10-14 parties of 2-4, so a pretty small restaurant. They had 2 waiters staffing the entire restaurant, but the menu and ordering system is all done through a POS via QR code. The menu was quite large, offering no many choices like pot stickers, noodle soups, chow mein, and little appetizers like pig ears. We ended up ordering the pig ears, pot stickers, pork pan fried bun, and 2 noodle soups. The good: pig ears. The pig ears were cut in various sizes and the flavor was spicy. Definitely to our liking! The neutral: the pork hamburger item and pot stickers. While the bun was tasty and crispy, the mean in between was a bit dry and the taste was a bit mild and less salty. We made it better by adding pig ears with every bite lol. The pot stickers were fine but it didn't really give a crispy bottom taste and more of dry pan sear. It definitely needed sauce as the filling was a bit mild too (very consistent mild tastings after the pig ears. The bad: the soup dishes that we ordered were definitely needing a flavor bomb. While the noodles we ordered were great and had a ton of chew and the protein in the dish was plenty; the soup lacked in taste. My girlfriend had to ask for additional salt to add to taste and it made it so much better. I ate mine as intended and I wasn't as satisfied as compared to if I were to eat at ox9 or muragame. Overall, I thought our meal was about a 3.5. While we enjoyed watching the World Cup while eating our food, the taste of our food was much more desired and it didn't scratch our itch for a rich soup. Unfortunately, many of the other patrons seemed to catch on and order the chow mein instead. If we come back, it's probably what we would order next. Until next time!

I picked it for a family lunch after going to the Livermore outlets. The decor and ambience is typical but relatively nice. We ordered a bunch of Shanghainese classics: Soy milk 4/5 - if you order multiple servings it comes in a large bowl meant for sharing. Can order cold or hot with sugar on the side. Xiao long bao 4.5/5 - I'm pretty picky about xlb and I am partial to the Shanghainese style (vs Taiwanese style you get at DTF and other places) and this was surprisingly good. Before this, my fav in the bay area was I-Shanghai Delight and honestly I think this might rival it. Filling and soup were both savory and light and incredibly umami. Maybe the wrapper at I-Shanghai is a bit thinner but honestly not a huge difference to me. Would def recommend if you like this style. Braised minced eel 5/5 - OMG this was the highlight of the meal for me, and I think only ppl who like this eel dish would understand. I honestly have not found good Shanghainese stir fried eel anywhere else in the Bay area. Chef Zhao's version was good once upon a time but then the most recent time we went, it tasted weird and not fresh. I-Shanghai Delight's was also no good (not fresh). This is the one dish that I will keep coming back here for. Razor clams with ginger and scallion 5/5 - This was also a crowd fav. I don't love clams usually but these were big and meaty and tender, and the sauce is what you would expect. Highly recommend Stewed yellow croaker soup with pickles 3/5 - This was ok and could've been better. Flavor of the soup was good but I think the fish tasted a bit overcooked/dry and could've been more tender. Shredded pork with wild rice shoot 4/5 - This was fine and a very traditional Chinese dish. Nicely done but nothing amazing. Red bean pancake 4/5 - This was a good dish, just not what I expected. I like the red bean pancakes where the pancake part is more doughy while this was like VERY crispy. But the flavor was good Lastly, the lady who took care of our table was SO nice and so chatty and so patient, despite the usual chaos and indecision of large family gatherings. She also packed up all the food for us and even gave suggestions for surrounding Chinese supermarkets. All in all, it was a really pleasant experience with good food and I will def be going back for more

For anyone coming, the parking can be really bad as it shares probably 20 or so spots with several other restaurants. It's near impossible to park nearby with the alternative of parking near the Panera's or even the target. There's plenty of tables and seats inside, and it was pretty slow when we dined in. Convenient televisions on two different sides where all the workers were casually watching, and quite the chatter in the kitchen where they're all watching the World Cup. That doesn't really affect service however as they're quite attentive when called for. We ordered the salted fish and chicken fried rice, and the medium bbq platter with char sound soy sauce chicken. All very delicious! The only thing is that they can bit on the pricier side with $20 for the fried rice and $30 for the bbq plate. Overall, I thought grand cafe definitely scratched our itch for Cantonese style dining experience. It typically comes with great food, good service, and a bit of nostalgia from being from the Bay Area.
