We really enjoyed our time here. The atmosphere was vibrant and fun. The service was on point and they were constantly, but not overly so, checking on us to see how we were doing. One of the worst dining experiences we've had in Livermore. We had family visiting from out of town and were excited to take them to Uncle Yu's, a restaurant we had enjoyed several times before. Unfortunately, from the moment we walked in, the hostess was extremely rude, cold, and dismissive. Every question was met with attitude, and the way we were treated made us feel very unwelcome. As a family of a different nationality, I couldn't help but wonder whether that played a role. When I asked to speak with the manager, hoping she would address the situation, she was immediately defensive and completely dismissed my concerns. Sadly, the poor treatment continued with the rest of the staff. I kept giving them chances, thinking the next interaction would be better, but it wasn't. To top it off, the food was nowhere near the quality we remembered--it was mediocre at best. We came in excited to share a restaurant we had previously enjoyed with our family and left feeling unwelcome, disrespected, and extremely disappointed. After being repeat customers, this experience has completely changed how we feel about Uncle Yu's. read more

This has become a go to spot for business dinners, with coworkers from the east coast excited to visit NorCal just so they can come to Uncle Yu's. Everything they do here is excellent- decor, ambiance, service, drinks, & food. Decor, ambiance, and service are elevated and fit in with the price tag. While expensive, the food is absolutely worth it. This is not "authentic" Chinese food, but it is "fancy" Chinese food and doesn't have a "greasy" aspect. One of our favorite dishes is the fried rice- I think about it often when I'm hungry. We have never had anything we didn't love, so follow your taste buds! We love coming to Uncle Yu's! My husband is gluten free so it's always hard for us to find restaurants that cater to that, but Uncle Yu's has a gluten free menu! So so awesome! Today, we ordered gluten free chicken chow fun, gluten free vegetable fried rice and gluten free Mongolian beef. All of the entrees were perfect and we even left with leftovers! A friend recommended Uncle Yu's for their Sea Bass and I'm so glad I took their recommendation. There were four of us and everything we ordered arrived temperature appropriate, full of flavor and generous portions were served. The service was on the slow side Im not sure if there was confusion on who was assigned to our table but it eventually worked out even though I had ask for our server several times. I asked for a specific cocktail, which I know was confusing, when it came it was a bit off so I took it to the bartender who adjusted it perfectly. We all went home with to go box's. After 6 years, I finally came back to Uncle Yu's. Service and ambiance is great as usual and we ordered the heavy hitters for lunch: honey walnut prawns, mongolian beef, and mu shu pork. Unfortunately, the food seemed off. The mu shu pork was so watery that it was extremely messy and dripped water as soon as you picked them up. The prawns were dry and the Mongolian beef lacked flavor and was mostly onions. However, my biggest issue is the price. $33 for a handful of prawns? While the food is (usually) above average, it doesn't translate to these menu prices. Especially after this disappointing visit, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

My work scheduled a dinner here for all my coworkers and we had a lovely experience! We were able to pick out entrees ahead of time and served family style. We were served 3 appetizers as well. The staff was friendly, quick, and attentive to serving our large party. We also had 4 birthdays amongst our group, and they served four different desserts to each person. As one of the birthday people I got served a mango raspberry sherbet with a white chocolate shell. It was the best of all the desserts! The portions were huge and we had leftovers to take home. Excellent Chinese food in Livermore. Went back after a long time with family after watching "Annie" at the Bankhead Theater nearby. The ladies ordered colorful fruity drinks, and we ordered honey glazed calamari ($27) and crispy eggplant with hoisin ginger glaze ($21) as starters. The latter was a recommendation by our server, and he was spot on, as the eggplant was served piping hot and was superb. It was almost as good as the calamari (my favorite!). For our entrées we ordered tea-smoked duck ($33) with pancakes, BBQ Pork baby back ribs ($24), General Tso's chicken ($28), and Wagyu Chow Fun ($24) - these were all very good, but IMO the baby back ribs were a notch above the rest! Total bill was a little over $200 before tax and tip. Bathrooms were adequate. Deducted one star because they rushed us and cleared our plates before we were ready, even though there were plenty of tables and staff available. read more

Bomb Chinese food is all I can say! I personally am not a huge fan of Chinese food it's probably my least favorite. However, this recipe pace is amazing, full of flavor and I don't find myself bloated after the end of my family style meal! It taste awful it was all raw cabbage no other veggies inside of it . it was disgusting , I had to immediately spit it out too keep from choking on stringy unseasoned raw cabbage . your cook is getting lazy half cooking the food and boxing it up . This place is very special- for work dinners, date night, or a solo night on the town. The Chinese chicken salad is top notch, the dim sum & dumplings are super good. Our group had a reservation for 5 and were seated quickly. The inside is dark and moody, totally enjoyed the vibe. Our waiter was attentive and got our drinks and appetizers out quickly. He timed everything perfectly, and had our entrees come out after we enjoyed our apps. Our table ordered a dirty martini, spicy margarita and a lychee martini. The dirty martini was perfection, just the right amount of olive juice. The spicy margarita was well balanced and had just a hint of spice. The lychee martini was refreshing. For appetizers we ordered the potstickers, the crab meat cheese puffs and the specialty dumpling sampler. The potstickers were big and nicely filled, the crab and meat cheese puffs were their take on a crab Rangoon and the dumplings were sooo yummy. The only thing I wish is that there were some meat/veggie options as part of the dumpling sampler. Each dumpling contained some type of seafood and sadly one member of our party is allergic. For the mains we ordered the fried rice, chow mein, Mongolian beef, broccoli beef and a chicken dish. The meat dishes were flavorful and seasoned well. The wagyu steak was tender and soft just melts in your mouth. The chow mein was the star. The texture and flavor of the dish was spot on. I could have eaten the whole bowl myself. The miss of the night was the chicken fried rice. It was pretty bland and the prices of chicken had no seasoning. Overall we had a great dinner. Had a wonderful lunch with a dear friend. I ordered the prawns with the special chef's sauce. They were delicious and a good amount of prawns. The lunch specials are excellent and priced well. We each had a glass of the house chardonnay which was very nice. We had a very nice server. It was only his second day and he was very thoughtful and efficient. Take-Out Experience - Ordered to pick-up on my way home. After getting a $72 total for one entree, steamed rice and appetizer, I asked to have it repeated back to me. Arrived to pick-up and found that the beef I ordered on the chow mein was now 2 orders of chow mein. Manager was close enough to ask me "if I still wanted both entrees". I replied that I don't think I really have a choice, since the dishes were already made. I don't want to know this error resulted in throwing-away perfectly good food. The right thing to do was to refund your customer for the mistaken order, allowing me to find a "home" for the extra food and not let me leave with a less-than acceptable experience. read more

Maybe I came on an off day, but the food didn't live up to the hype. Service and ambience were a 10/10. Staff was super friendly! And I mean genuinely friendly. From the hostesss to the servers, to the bar tenders, just outstanding service. And te place was spotless and beautiful with food came out quickly! However, that's just the trouble. The food. For me, it was quite bland, and just slightly below average. I asked for chili oil with my dish ( which I don't even remember as it was so bland) and even that couldn't breathe life into it. Some friends and I came to celebrate a friend's recent achievement and it did not disappoint! Our food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the crispy eggplant and potstickers as an appetizer. Both were really good but that crispy eggplant is probably the best dish I've ever had, hands down! Sweet & sour sauce, crispy on the outside and soft & tender on the inside. It's the only way to eat eggplant! We also ordered Kung Po Chicken, dry sautéed green beans, pork fried rice with no egg because one of us had an egg allergy, and orange peel beef. Is it the best Chinese in Livermore? Probably. Worth the hefty bill? Debatable. I can't deny that the food, service, and ambience is pretty darn nice, but it does come with a premium price tag. Great for special occasions, but you can arguably get food that's almost as good at plenty of other restaurants around town, even if they aren't quite as nice. I have been to other locations, this was the first time in Livermore. It is a very nice location, nice ambiance. Went with friends for an early dinner before an event we had to attend. We shared a few things, the honey walnut prawn salad, peking ribs, vegan fried rice and shrimp pad thai...all very delicious! My friends had never experienced Uncle Yu's and they were very happy with the food and experience. Our waitress was amazing, appreciate her very much. I came here for a special occasion on recommendation from a coworker. I think the story behind the food and the source make a lot of sense. But in the end I don't quite think it justified the price. Service was great and we got everything in a timely fashion. To me this was more of a place with a fantastic wine selection as the main draw. The food to me was upscaled PF Chang's. First off the food was absolutely amazing! We stop by here whenever we can on our travels because there is nothing by else like it with such an epic wine list and incredible flavorful dishes. Also the staff is very kind and attentive. Second, I forgot my sunglasses in the bathroom and I thought I left them in the restaurant and the staff went above and beyond to help me find them. They were not found, as I concluded I think a guest took them from the bathroom in the 13 minutes I left them in there. Went here for a wedding rehearsal dinner and was not expecting the interior to have the aesthetic that it does. It had private room where it could accommodate 40 people and still had plenty of space.
