Still a great value for lunch, comes to $15 out the door for the lunch special. I was wanting fish and didn't want fried fish. Ordered the fish in spicy garlic sauce thinking that it would be in more of a garlic soy sauce. Instead it was fried pieces of fish in a sweet & spicy sauce similar to the chili dipping sauce. Not a fan of sweet, especially with fish but I really enjoyed this dish. It also had lots of onions, snow peas, water chestnuts, and carrots. They pack the lunch box with fried rice & chow main. Very casual hole in the wall spot over on Vasco. Good for a quick bite to eat, probably not the best for hot days, I don't think they have AC. The Braised Tofu and the Spicy Garlic Eggplant were great. Both the chow mein and the fried rice are good, the portions are big. I was driving home from the Central Valley on Friday evening, and decided to stop by and try Ming's Garden on Vasco Rd for the first time. I got there around 830pm, and people were eating in the dining room and there was a steady flow of takeout orders. These are all good signs of a popular restaurant. I ordered 2 favorite dishes: Chicken Chow Mein-Hong Kong Style and Salt 'n Pepper Prawns. The ladies running the front counter were very nice. With the phone ringing, and takeout orders going out, they still took the time to answer all my questions. How was the food? Salt 'n Pepper Prawns, Grade (4/5): These are battered fried prawns. I got 14 avg size prawns in my order. Lightly crisp, but could use more seasoning. Chicken Chow Mein-Hong Kong Style, Grade (4/5): This is crispy thin noodles, with chicken, veggies, and thick gravy poured on top. This is a good dish if you like both crispy noodles and soft noodles with gravy. Interesting thing they do for takeout, they keep the crispy noodles and gravy separate. You mix them when you get home. Once again, a good dish. But doesn't seem to have enough flavor. The chicken was very tender. But in general, good food prepared with care. Also, great location....right off the I-580 freeway on South Vasco Rd. It's in the strip mall that has the Jack in the Box and the Taco Bell. We went to Ming's Garden today for lunch. It was awesome I had them Mongolian Beef plate with chow mein and fried rice. My Husband also had the Monglian Beef and chow mein. They also gave us a small salad and a soup with our special. Food was super yummy. Service was awesome. I definitely would recommend going here. The food prices were more than reasonable. We stayed at a hotel near this restaurant while we were visiting relatives for the holidays. We came a day early and had to grab dinner for ourselves this evening. We found ins's Garden on Yelp and it was right across the street! Well, we would have driven miles to enjoy their food if we had to! We ordered tomato beef chow mein (my husband's favorite) and a fried fish with hunan sauce entree. Both were delicious, flavorful and more than adequate portions. The service was great. Both women working the front and kitchen were friendly and very service oriented. If I lived here this would definitely be a 'go to' for us. Since I ordered something that wasn't on their menu last time, I thought I'd try again with some standards. Kung Pao chicken ($13.95+$.25 for extra peanuts) & potstickers ($9.95), but was lazy and wanted delivery, and needed to hit the minimum order, so added steamed white rice ($2) and egg drop soup (called golden egg flower soup on their menu $9.25 - most expensive egg drop soup I've ever had!). (Delivery charge $5, $5 tip +tax came to $44.25) Unfortunately, disappointed again. The pot stickers were cooked properly (not a deep fryer like you find so often these days) and the pork meatball tasted pretty good, but way too much dough, and therefore the dough didn't cook all the way through. The dipping sauce was unfamiliar - looked like straight chili oil with some red peppers added. Didn't seem like any vinegar, just straight heat and oil. The Kung Pao chicken, on the other hand, wasn't very spicy at all (I'd requested extra spicy) or else the potsticker dipping sauce killed my taste buds for the Kung Pao. I'd requested (and paid for) extra peanuts, and if this is extra, they must not put many peanuts at all on a regular order. The meat was sliced instead of cubed, and again not silkened at all, and ended up chewy and unappetizing. The green & red bell pepper, red onions and zucchini were ok, but not much sauce to give the rice any bonus (and it was extremely oily). At least this time the rice didn't taste weird. The egg flower soup was unusual - in addition to the standard ingredients of chicken stock, eggs, chives/green onions & thickener, they added mushrooms and baby corn cobs, green peas and a small bit of carrot. The chicken broth is extremely faint and I can't stand peas, but it didn't taste all that bad, but absolutely nothing I'll ever order again. I'm definitely not ordering from this place on future trips. I get better in Minnesota. read more
