By 12 noon the whole restaurant was packed and new comers needed to wait for their turns . The service was good and efficient. We ordered 1/2 Hainan chicken . Meats are tender and the chicken was marinated to perfect . Free dipping suave with minted ginger , green onion and hot boiling cooked oil to make a sauce . Very aromatic! The gave us good quantities of beef and a huge plate of Chinese broccoli. . Beef was stir fried in oyster sauce and it was silky smooth and very delicious A good place to stop by for. A solid Hong Kong cafe with affordable dishes! We've been here numerous times over the last decade or so, and they're pretty consistent with delivering good comfort food. My family is from HK and their black bean spare ribs over rice is pretty special and took my dad back to his childhood, though the most recent trip he said it tasted slightly different, but still good. The combination fried noodles have lots of seafood and the chow fun was huge! My only wish is that it had a little more seasoning--the wok hei was there but it was ever so slightly bland still. My kids stable who grew up eating at Cousin Now back in town with the family and nothing has changed. Food is still consistently delicious. The chicken baked rice is difficult to match from other places filled with different tangy red sauce and creamy white sauce. The beef chow fun is stirred dried with excellent aromatic wok. Pretty cheap brunch! Typical Cantonese place, don't expect to get good service. The restaurant itself is quite small, but I can imagine the wait to not be too long since the food comes out quick and therefore should have fast turnovers. We got the breakfast menu and tried a noodle dish along with the congee. Their beef brisket soup is actually quite good. They give a generous amount of beef and it's actually tender. The only complaint is the pan friend cheung fun that came with the congee was a bit too mushy. Their breakfast items (excluding congee) comes with coffee or milk tea. read more

Pro Tip: Bring cash for a discount, and don't underestimate the size of that barrel (rice)! - - - - - - As the advice goes, a 3.5 for a Chinese restaurant means it's authentic, good - and this holds true, too, for Cousin Cafe. On a Sunday afternoon, the wait was no more than a few minutes for a table for two, and of course, I was more than tempted to get the chicken and mushroom barrel rice. We also shared a fish filet porridge, and of course, it was too much food for two people! The lemon iced tea (light sweet) was the perfect level of sweetness - and I wouldn't recommend it any other way. The fish filet porridge was pure as porridge should be, and there was a light hint of fish taste as well. With a few specks of white pepper, this was yummy yummy. The chicken and mushroom barrel rice was nostalgic of my childhood days at dim sum, except the glass bowl was replaced with a barrel. Aside from aesthetics and the deception of size, this was a great dish. From top, it looks quite small, but the barrel holds quite a bit of rice, so don't underestimate how much there is! The rice itself was fairly bland, so soy sauce is recommended to add a little flavor. At the end, we only but made a dent on the fish filet porridge, and there is a small fee for takeout containers. However, they also offer a discount if paying in cash, so cash is recommended over card here. All in all, service is as you'd expect at an authentic Chinese restaurant: efficient, tasty - and at times absent. read more

Nice hole in the wall! Wife ordered the shrimp and egg over rice? 9/10 just needed a little spice and it was great! Salt and pepper wings 10/10 perfect flavor and crunch while still keeping the chicken juicy. Roti with curry 10/10 flaky and crispy and the curry was great as well. The tea blend was very rich and the milk was just perfect. Thousand year old egg in the porridge was just ok, but the rest of porridge was on point. Came here for lunch after running some errands nearby. We arrived around 3:30pm mid-day during a Saturday, and were able to get seated right away. Service here is pretty efficient, and we were able to get our food shortly after ordering. The wife opted for a Curry Beef Brisket with Rice, while I went with a more traditional Wonton Noodle Soup. They were both ok in taste, although nothing overtly amazing nor memorable about either dish. A great Hong Kong cafe. The servers are very friendly. We came in around 2 ish pm and it was pretty busy on a Friday. Food was tasty. We had beef chow fun, fried tofu , cheung fun (rice rolls) with dipping sauce including a bit of hoisin and lots of peanut butter sauce. The rice rolls were pan fried perfectly. Hong Kong style French toasts with syrup on the side. They were excellent. Also the fu kien fried rice. Yeah I really wanted to like this place because it was recommended to me by my uncle and also by my friend Erin. Unfortunately I think this place is just a below average HK Cafe. HK Cafe is one of my favorite cuisines. I love the fast and cheap options, and the fusion dishes have a lot of charm. After I started working in Newark, I decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, Cousin Cafe didn't live up to the hype. There was nothing offensive about the taste of the food. The only gripe I had was the menu seemed pretty small. I originally came in wanting the Big Brother, but they didn't have it! Instead, I got the baked pork chop over fried rice, and it was just OK. Normally the baked dishes at HK Cafes are GODLIKE, so I was kinda disappointed. The service here was also REALLY SLOW. That's probably the main reason I wouldn't come back. If I'm eating in this area ideally I want it to be a quick in and out experience. Not having to wait so long for my food and having trouble flagging down a waiter. The venue is pretty normal, just the right amount of jank you would expect from a HK Cafe. Looking back, if you're looking for a HK Cafe in the Newark area, I would recommend Local Cafe over by Pacific Commons in Fremont, it's way better. read more

I really like their menu since they have various combinations of rice items, but since they seem to be for at least two or more people, I decided to order one of their rice plates. I remember the last time I came here, I had pork cutlet with rice, and wanted to have it again. However, they kinda screwed up my order and that's fine as long as it's not completely different. There were plenty of lunch specials options which you can add a drink for an extra $2. I like both the coffee mix w milk tea and milk tea. Very Hong Kong style. We also tried the baked ham and mushroom spaghetti in cream sauce and the baked pork chop spaghetti in tomatoes sauce. The tomatoe sauce was a bit better. There weren't enough cream sauce in the other one. I also got a take out that D) chicken spaghetti in black spaghetti and E) baked rock cod with Lisbon sauce. Both were really good!
