Excellent place for small gathering with friends and family . We came here for breakfast. It is very crowded by 9 am because today is a Federal Holiday. By the time we are done at 10 am , there is a line outside and a wait list ! Breakfast was good . Love their Hong Kong style British breakfast tea with milk and sugar . We ordered one ice lemon tea to go with pan fried pork chop and toast , side salad breakfast for $13.25 . We have two hot milk teas with two stewed beef brisket noodle soups. All breakfast menu . The brisket is tender and flavorful. The broth was so good to pair up with flat rice noodles ( white rice noodle ) , cooked with lettuce . Price was great $12.50 including the tea . Service is efficient even they are very busy this morning . Big screen TV on the wall for Thais who like to watch World Cup . Private restrooms inside the cafe . Public parking lot is right at the front door . This place is so popular and everyone knows why ! They close on Thursday and will be open on the weekends . Happy 4 th of July ,2026 ! read more

4.75 stars. If you are looking for great H.K./Chinese cuisine, comfort food, you should visit this place. My favorite is Mongolian Beef, spicy "ask" and it is fabulous. Staff are very nice, reasonable price for the large portions served. Reason why I did not rate 5-stars is not the food quality, it is some of the frequent customers that come in groups that are SOOOOOH loud, obnoxious, combative, not sure if they ate the meal because they were screaming conversations the entire time while I was trying to eat lunch. I had to take my plate outside table to get away from the noise pollution of 6-8 "Mad Mother-In-Laws" on a rampage. Restaurant staff did not intervene, avoid conflict, avoid losing customers, I guess this is normal everyday behavior for the infamous "dama" (大妈) in their restaurant or anywhere else for that matter. So, my suggestion is, avoid lunch hour/prime dinner hours, order food, go outside to eat or take out to enjoy at home, nearby park . Food is great! Some of the customer groups (i.e. like straight off a tour bus) are challenging to endure. Another option, bring high quality noise-cancelling headphones, eat/enjoy quietly if you encounter the "dama" experience... read more

Came here for a quick bite on a Friday as my sister had a salon appointment in the same strip mall. It was crowded at noon time when we arrived so we opted to sit outside to eat. Glad we did as it was more peaceful outside, even though it was 80 degree weather. We ordered hot tea, iced coffee, beef brisket with cabbage, spaghetti with rock cod and Hainanese chicken with rice all to share and we enjoyed every morsel! Hopefully, next time we'll be able to get a table inside. read more

Cousin Cafe has been here for a couple of decades. Not much decor. Soft music, flatscreen in front. Tables set closed together. Couple tables outside. Lotsa parking in big lot. Service slow on Father's Day. Place packed. Waiting list. Opted to sit outside when name called. Hong Kong style food isn't considered Chinese food as it was created when it was a British colony from 1842-1997. *U.K. Didn't like their forbidden opium dumped into the sea by the Qing Dynasty. A treaty after the Opium War allowed UK to possess H.K. Another war later allowed UK to take over Kowloon.. "free trade" Western style. Offerings (H.K.): usual categories + lunch, breakfast & chef's specials. Bites: Baked pork chop & rock cod fillets with sweet corn sauce (19.95) choose rice over spaghetti. Came in 15ish minutes -baked perfecto. Thin crunchy crust, juicy moist proteins within. Creamy corn sauce added fluidity. Rice added body. Sips: Hong Kong Milk Tea. Comped. Didn't see where it was listed ... -brewed with strong black tea with condensed milk on bottom. Forgot to stir so it tasted bitter initially. -H.K. Drinks are an acquired taste. Predates boba tea. Has an earthier taste profile. 4.5 stars worthy:YMMV. Quality-very good quantity-ok for me. Busier times have higher prices... read more

Typical Hong Kong cafe to fix your Hong Kong diner craving. Quick service if you are in a rush. Note that they close the register between shift so they would require you to pay before their shift end if you are paying with credit card. This doesn't affect those who pay with cash. Portion size is worth it for the price. read more

My kids stable who grew up eating at Cousin Now back in town with the family and nothing has changed. Food is still consistently delicious. The chicken baked rice is difficult to match from other places filled with different tangy red sauce and creamy white sauce. The beef chow fun is stirred dried with excellent aromatic wok. Great combination and will definitely return for more. read more

They always have an array of dishes for this style of cuisine. It's always abundant and generous in amount of food they put in your to go order as well! Love their hours of operations too! read more

A solid Hong Kong cafe with affordable dishes! We've been here numerous times over the last decade or so, and they're pretty consistent with delivering good comfort food. My family is from HK and their black bean spare ribs over rice is pretty special and took my dad back to his childhood, though the most recent trip he said it tasted slightly different, but still good. The combination fried noodles have lots of seafood and the chow fun was huge! My only wish is that it had a little more seasoning--the wok hei was there but it was ever so slightly bland still. All in all though, great value and a no frills kind of place--don't go for amazing service, go for the comfort food. read more

Our usual lunch spot... but that day, we came for breakfast or brunch at 10 ish am. Probably the only decent hk style breakfast sets in the sf South Bay. Ordered the porridge & rice noodles set and also the waffle bacon and 2 fry eyes with complimentary hk milk tea. Excellent prices. The servers are friendly and know our names. No non-sense decor with wood tables & somewhat comfortable chairs. I read more

Fair prices, good food! My parents, who are extremely picking when it comes to Chinese breakfast foods, really enjoys this restaurant. Every time they come visit, Cousins Cafe is the only Chinese restaurant they will eat at. We come here mainly for breakfast and their porridges are my favorite! Most breakfast sets come with a free drink (lemon tea, milk tea, or coffee) which is a plus! Overall great place if you're craving porridge or noodle. read more

every item we ordered was delicious and good value ($25pp)! we ordered family style and got - hainan chicken porridge - youtiao (chinese donut) - salt and pepper chicken wings - black pepper beef crispy rice - baked seafood fried rice - hot and iced hk milk teas, lemon iced tea our server spoke english mandarin and cantonese and sat us at the outdoor table that got more draft wind on a warm day would return esp since not that many hk cafes in the south bay (that i know of??) read more

Pretty cheap brunch! Typical Cantonese place, don't expect to get good service. The restaurant itself is quite small, but I can imagine the wait to not be too long since the food comes out quick and therefore should have fast turnovers. We got the breakfast menu and tried a noodle dish along with the congee. Their beef brisket soup is actually quite good. They give a generous amount of beef and it's actually tender. The only complaint is the pan friend cheung fun that came with the congee was a bit too mushy. Their breakfast items (excluding congee) comes with coffee or milk tea. read more

I always go there all the time. 1) Decor is simple, regular small chinese eatery place 2) Hong Kong style cafe 3) Food is very good 4) people are very nice 5) inside is clean 6) HK style lemon ice tea is very good. 7) Cripsy noodle is very good Highly recommended. read more

Pro Tip: Bring cash for a discount, and don't underestimate the size of that barrel (rice)! - - - - - - As the advice goes, a 3.5 for a Chinese restaurant means it's authentic, good - and this holds true, too, for Cousin Cafe. On a Sunday afternoon, the wait was no more than a few minutes for a table for two, and of course, I was more than tempted to get the chicken and mushroom barrel rice. We also shared a fish filet porridge, and of course, it was too much food for two people! The lemon iced tea (light sweet) was the perfect level of sweetness - and I wouldn't recommend it any other way. The fish filet porridge was pure as porridge should be, and there was a light hint of fish taste as well. With a few specks of white pepper, this was yummy yummy. The chicken and mushroom barrel rice was nostalgic of my childhood days at dim sum, except the glass bowl was replaced with a barrel. Aside from aesthetics and the deception of size, this was a great dish. From top, it looks quite small, but the barrel holds quite a bit of rice, so don't underestimate how much there is! The rice itself was fairly bland, so soy sauce is recommended to add a little flavor. At the end, we only but made a dent on the fish filet porridge, and there is a small fee for takeout containers. However, they also offer a discount if paying in cash, so cash is recommended over card here. All in all, service is as you'd expect at an authentic Chinese restaurant: efficient, tasty - and at times absent. read more

Busy and quick service. I came at 10:30 and the place was 2/3 packed. Pretty casual restaurant. Food came out quick. They do offer hot tea and do not charge but it doesn't taste that good. 4 stars so my preserved eggs and fish porridge. Plenty of protein. Liked the green onions and shredded ginger pieces. The rolled rice sheet was good too. It came with a peanut buttery sauce and hoisin. Interesting combo. read more

Love their family style entrees. I usually get to-go for dinner. Very convenient. I like their Hong Kong style milk tea too.

Very authentic Hong Kong style Chinese food. The environment is welcoming and the staff tries their best to be attentive and they are very friendly. There could be times when they are busy and less attentive which is completely acceptable. The food quality is probably the BEST amongst other Hong Kong style cafes nearby in terms of value/quality ratio. We come here on a weekly basis. There is a strong sense of local community restaurant and very delicious and authentic food! read more

Came here for lunch after running some errands nearby. We arrived around 3:30pm mid-day during a Saturday, and were able to get seated right away. Service here is pretty efficient, and we were able to get our food shortly after ordering. The wife opted for a Curry Beef Brisket with Rice, while I went with a more traditional Wonton Noodle Soup. They were both ok in taste, although nothing overtly amazing nor memorable about either dish. There is plenty of indoor seating, and they seem to get a consistent stream of foot traffic during our meal. A discount is offered if you're willing to pay your entire tab with cash. read more

Authentic hong kong flavors, decent prices for breakfast meals. Been coming here on and off for over a decade, and will continue to do so. The hong kong milk tea was legit. The tea blend was very rich and the milk was just perfect. Thousand year old egg in the porridge was just ok, but the rest of porridge was on point. The fish porridge had very generous amounts of fish. The fried doughnut was lightly salted, with a light crispy outside and an airy soft middle. Fish cutlet w tartar sauce was yum! Light crispy batter. Not too oily Service was still pretty good despite them being understaffed for the holiday. read more

Nice hole in the wall! Wife ordered the shrimp and egg over rice? 9/10 just needed a little spice and it was great! Salt and pepper wings 10/10 perfect flavor and crunch while still keeping the chicken juicy. Roti with curry 10/10 flaky and crispy and the curry was great as well. Wonton noodle soup 6/10 huge wontons that tasted great but broth and noodles weren't as amazing as the rest of the meal. Would definitely come back and try other items from the menu everything looked amazing. read more

I haven't been in this place for a while even before COVID hits. I wanted to come by again since my family and I came here before. I really like their menu since they have various combinations of rice items, but since they seem to be for at least two or more people, I decided to order one of their rice plates. I remember the last time I came here, I had pork cutlet with rice, and wanted to have it again. However, they kinda screwed up my order and that's fine as long as it's not completely different. It tastes fine as well as the rice and vegetables. Taking a look at the atmosphere of this restaurant, it's seemingly very calm here since people are just having conversations. Also, this place only accepts cash since I normally use it to pay my meals anyways. Maybe the next time I come here, I bring my family or friends so we can try other menu items. read more

A great Hong Kong cafe. The servers are very friendly. We came in around 2 ish pm and it was pretty busy on a Friday. Food was tasty. We had beef chow fun, fried tofu , cheung fun (rice rolls) with dipping sauce including a bit of hoisin and lots of peanut butter sauce. The rice rolls were pan fried perfectly. Hong Kong style French toasts with syrup on the side. They were excellent. Also the fu kien fried rice. The fried rice was delicious with lots of toppings, one suggestion for the rice, could have had more sauce or gravy. Fried tofu was crispy on the outside and soft tofu inside. Overall experience was pleasant. B+ to A-!!! Definitely a solid hong Kong style cafe! read more

Yeah I really wanted to like this place because it was recommended to me by my uncle and also by my friend Erin. Unfortunately I think this place is just a below average HK Cafe. HK Cafe is one of my favorite cuisines. I love the fast and cheap options, and the fusion dishes have a lot of charm. After I started working in Newark, I decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, Cousin Cafe didn't live up to the hype. There was nothing offensive about the taste of the food. The only gripe I had was the menu seemed pretty small. I originally came in wanting the Big Brother, but they didn't have it! Instead, I got the baked pork chop over fried rice, and it was just OK. Normally the baked dishes at HK Cafes are GODLIKE, so I was kinda disappointed. The service here was also REALLY SLOW. That's probably the main reason I wouldn't come back. If I'm eating in this area ideally I want it to be a quick in and out experience. Not having to wait so long for my food and having trouble flagging down a waiter. The venue is pretty normal, just the right amount of jank you would expect from a HK Cafe. Looking back, if you're looking for a HK Cafe in the Newark area, I would recommend Local Cafe over by Pacific Commons in Fremont, it's way better. read more

DO NOT ORDER FRENCH TOAST!!! $6 for one piece of toast cut in half, no peanut butter inside, oily grease. Wonton noodles was nice. Finally found a shop that sells wontons with shrimp inside. Cousin Cafe has been around for many years although I heard from a client that the ownership has recently changed but this is unverified. I feel Cousin Cafe is one of the better HK style cafes in the tri-city area. It is popular for breakfast, especially on the weekends. I come for their lunch specials but occasionally I come for the afternoon picker-upper about 3 when I need that boost. The stir fry beef in oyster sauce in Chinese broccoli is a stable - tender Beef & vegetables not overly done. I love the taste of the oyster sauce. Service is great and fast . They close on Thursday. read more

HK breakfast - come hungry cuz the combos give you huge portions Eggs and toast - done over easy and the toast was margarine or buttered well Macaroni soup - standard macaroni, thicker ham rather than spam, and they threw some fresh spinach in there surprisingly too Fish porridge - generous amount of soft white fish and not too salty , very comforting Chow mein - standard generous pile of the thin noodle type Service was friendly and considerate of my baby Ambience was super clean for an HK Cafe, even the bathrooms were relatively clean as well. Of course no napkins ever though, lol Overall this is a great place of your seeking the comfort of HK food read more

This restaurant is very dirty. The beef has gone bad. It smells awful. The service is terrible. We were yelled at for requesting to replace the spoiled beef. Some of the 5-star reviews are fake. Don't order their spaghetti Bolognese, it's so dry that you'd feel like eating paint spaghetti without sauce or seasonings. I sincerely recommend their chef to try their food once in a while. Came here on a weekday lunch. I was craving for the fish broth noodles and it didn't disappoint me. Served in a hot stone bowl kept it warm longer. There were plenty of lunch specials options which you can add a drink for an extra $2. I like both the coffee mix w milk tea and milk tea. Very Hong Kong style. We also tried the baked ham and mushroom spaghetti in cream sauce and the baked pork chop spaghetti in tomatoes sauce. The tomatoe sauce was a bit better. There weren't enough cream sauce in the other one. I also got a take out that D) chicken spaghetti in black spaghetti and E) baked rock cod with Lisbon sauce. Both were really good!
