The butter chicken was bland and could have used more flavor. The happy hour special was a great deal, though! Two tacos and a beer for $10 is hard to beat. The fish taco was delicious, while the chicken taco with avocado aioli sauce wasn't quite as good. One thing to be aware of if you're celebrating a special occasion: the restaurant charges $3 per person as a service fee for bringing in and eating your own birthday cake. Just left this place a couple of hours ago after celebrating our mom's birthday. Before I get into the lowlights, I do want to say that our server was great. She was very attentive and checked on us throughout our stay. Now for the lowlights: 1. Birthday cake fee: If you plan to bring a birthday cake, be aware that this establishment charges $3 per person based on the headcount, even if not everyone has a slice. We were provided with small plates and two butter knives to slice the cake. 2. Incorrect order: I asked for my breakfast sandwich to be made with whole wheat bread, but it arrived on white bread. Our server corrected this issue by bringing back whole wheat slices (Thank you!). (Have you ever ordered a breakfast sandwich from a donut shop? Those are tastier, have more eggs and meat portions for half the price. Yes, the order came with fries, but you be the judge if those fries justify the total cost.) 3. Croque Madame: My son ordered the Croque Madame, and most of the sandwich was drenched in sauce. It looked nothing like the photo posted by the business owner on Yelp. The presentation was unappealing, and unfortunately, the taste wasn't much better. 4. Food quality: Shortly after getting home, I experienced a very bad stomach upset and had to make an unexpected trip to the bathroom. Obviously, I can't say for certain what caused it, but it definitely didn't leave me feeling good about the meal. 5. Hostess: The hostess didn't seem particularly welcoming or like she wanted to be there. As the first point of contact for the establishment, I think a warmer and more welcoming attitude would make a big difference. 6. This place was out of salmon as of 11am. With so many choices of places to eat these days, this is unfortunately one place we're crossing off our list. Our first dinner visit here cemented the 4-star rating I originally gave for brunch. It's not perfect, but we love the vibe and the service is great (although slightly disjointed, IMO). We were a little disappointed by a fishy Hamachi appetizer, but I loved my Grilled Salmon with perfectly crisp-tender broccolini & a surprise plantain puree that provided a fantastic balance to the dish. Came here for brunch on a Sunday. It was pretty crowded. We were immediately seated. The restaurant inside was very nice compared to the rest of the strip mall. The vibe inside was cool. Kimchee Bloody Mary 1/5: this was not very good. Felt very watered down, not much kimchee flavor and not much Bloody Mary flavor either. Old Fashioned 4/5: this was good, which I stuck with for the remainder of my meal and after meal drink. Ja Ho Ya skillet (I believe) 2/5: this caught my eye with the KFC on top of country potatoes and an over easy egg. Even with the runny egg yolk, cheese and toppings, the fried chicken breast was bone dry. Nothing could have made that juicier. The country potatoes were good, but I only could eat so much of that. Coffee waffles with side of KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) 2/5: Again the fried chicken breast was bone dry akin to chewing sandpaper. The waffles didn't taste like coffee but noticed a slab of coffee butter was thrown on top that which was hard to spread. Overall, seems like the biggest disappointment was the KFC which we both had. The drinks were okay except for the Kimchee Bloody Mary. Seems like a good place for ok drinks but don't expect too much from the food. There are definitely better brunch spots out there. I was looking for a place to eat nearby to my sister's hair and pedicure appointment which opened early and items on the menu that we wanted to try and I found this place, which has only been opened for 5 months! The space is serene and comfy as I reserved a cozy booth for my sister, hubby and me. Service was friendly but at the time we arrived, Joy was helping 4-5 tables and couldn't meet all our requests in a timely manner so we asked James to help us get some creamer and sugar for my sister's coffee, and containers for our condiments. So it isn't entirely our server's fault because she was taking care of other tables at the same time. We ordered the hamburger with fries, very meaty, breakfast burrito and the Korean fried chicken and waffles! I enjoy my boneless crispy chicken and the yummy waffles. A new restaurant in Newark that has only been open for like 6 months or so. It's across the street from the Newpark Mall. We have only come here for dinner but we will definitely come back to try their brunch soon! For dinner we ordered the chicharrones, lemon pepper wings, quesabirria tacos and the coffee rubbed steak. Everything was so delicious. The restaurant is pretty large, clean, and has a great staff. Everyone was so kind and attentive. They have lots of TVs as well so when we came during the World Cup, we didn't feel like we were missing anything since they had the games on TV. Went in on a Saturday for an early dinner and the inside wasn't too busy. There's plenty of booth and tables. We were seated by the hostess and she said she'd bring us the happy hour menu but never did so we had to ask another person. Our server came shortly after. There's a lot of staff/employees when we went so service wasn't too bad. We got two orders of the OG Wings which comes with 6 pieces of wings and a side of coleslaw. It tastes like buffalo chicken and was pretty good for the happy hour price. Deff not worth it if you're paying regular price in my opinion. We also got the Cajun garlic fries which were alright. The flavor was alright and the sauce it came with was a bit bland in my opinion. We also got the classic flatbread which is like a pepperoni pizza and that was good but not worth the price at $15. It's in a "outdoor mall" so that means that there is plenty of parking. As soon as I walked in they sat me. The waitress said sure and sent the order in. food: I ordered the hummus plate, it comes with a salad. 10/10 it was great. I should have ordered a side of bacon or steak and called it a day since it's considered the vegetarian plate and I am not but it great. I also ordered the chilaquiles plate with green sauce and streak, it was delicious but a big plate especially after eating a full plate of hummus. I Did order another drink, it was a mocktail. I got an agua Fresca. We came during the world cup finals and it was PACKED inside but we had made reservations. If you're into cocktails they have plenty to choose from, as well as mocktails as well. We got matchas and coffee as well as the ube espresso martini. The martini was SOOO sweet. We were a group of 6 so we ordered a little bit of everything to share. We got the KFC & Waffles, Ube Pancakes, Birria Skillet, Jo-ah-yo Skillet, and the quinoa & Kale salad I get it it's trendy it's cute. but man we were shocked by the portion sizes for how much items cost. The most disappointing being the KFC & Waffle. For $21 it was barely a chicken. Also it was unsettling that upon sitting the communal sauces and syrup are just sititng open in a square dipping dish without any coverings . They def look like one time use but we noticed it was sitting on every table so we opted not to use it because... who knows what the table before you did to it. If you do come I would say spend your money on the skillets. The birria would be our top choice, the yo ah yo was good, more chicken than the waffle, but a lot of potatoes. The Ube pancake was the worse. We all barely took a bite. It's like they took the ratio of baking soda / powder wrong? The pancake was very dry and tasted... chemically like it wasn't fully baked off. It was HUGE and fluffy just not palatable. Will we be coming back? I think Toast & Tonique has so much potential. The aesthetics are there, the friendliness of the staff is there, but they have places where they can improve to make dining here even better. Service -- while friendly when we received it -- was lacking. We had to wait multiple times for our water to be refilled, and servers would walk around juggling 3-4 carafes for large parties (like ours). It seems a bit inefficient and burdensome for the servers; they could just leave a carafe on the table for large parties and fill up the carafe instead? Additionally, I'm not sure how their ordering system works, but our server had to press multiple buttons each time we ordered an item. It took a good minute or two for each of us to place our order while we waited for him to put it into the system. Our server also seemed forgetful, and we had to remind him a few times to bring a box for our food at the end of our meal. Again, super friendly when he interacted with us, but definitely have areas to grow. The food, on the other hand, came out quickly. We came on a Friday around noon expecting the lunch menu, but they were only offering their brunch menu at that time. We ordered a variety of things, and nothing particularly wowed us, although it was tasty. I think I was most disappointed with the tiramisu French toast. It came out looking like a literal hot mess. The coffee cream and mascarpone were melting off of the hot bread and became a sopping pool at the bottom of the plate even before we took a bite. I have to assume that this isn't the way it's meant to be presented because it didn't look enticing at all. It did taste better than it looked, but the looks already set a low bar to begin with. So I will say we went on a Thursday at like 3:30pm, so service was lacking but I don't completely blame them. We stood at the front for a while without being acknowledged and then just decided to sit at the bar. This ended up being the better choice as the bartended gave good service. We got a couple drinks, they were all pretty delicious so no complaints there. Food came out with decent speed. I really wanted to try the jalapeño poppers that I knew my husband wouldn't eat so I got a lighter entre of a Caesar salad. This was probably my biggest mistake. The salad was just okay. The chicken was a chicken thigh, which just isn't what you expect when you add chicken to a salad. It also had a spot or two that I was questioning if it was fully cooked. I know dark meat can look that way but I just opted not to eat those bites. The jalapeño poppers were also like a 3/5 for me. The presentation was nice, but I didn't love the sauce and the filling was also just okay for my taste buds. My husband said the burger and fries were pretty good. I later heard the bartender say the bowls are his favorite to another customer. I want to come back and give it another shot but as of right now, food was just medium. Avocado toast was okay and needed more flavor. KFC and waffle was a small portion. Pork belly banh mi was not in baguette and the pickled jalapeño and cauliflower tasted off. When asked if we wanted to save the leftover steak sandwich , we mentioned the meat was no taste and avocado was overpowered, the waiter we had was making excuses and saying that we should of told him to cook it a certain way. Our waiter barely checked on us on how the food was and never really refilled our water and coffee (we had to grab the waiter's attention just to refill) Our drinks took over 20 mins to arrive and our food took 30 minutes. Mind you we were seated around 1 pm, by the time 2:00 pm came we asked the waiter for the happy hour menu. Then we were ready to order around 2:05 pm but the waiter said the kitchen was not ready for happy hour. Suchhh a fun spot! I came with two friends and we tried a little bit of everything on their menu. Our collective favorite dish had to be the butter chicken wings (flavorful with slight sweetness & very meaty). I also really enjoyed the Ahi Tuna Tostada (light, refreshing, zesty & fresh) along with the oyster mushroom bao buns (earthy, herby, and juicy). For drinks, my favorite was the Beullubeli which featured vodka, blueberry syrup, fresh lemon and elderflower. My friends said the Ube Esperesso Martini was excellent. It was indeed very creamy when I tried it. To end the meal we had three desserts. The strawberry cake was airy with a layer of strawberry mouse, the chocolate lava cake was very sweet but paired well with the ice cream, and the chocolate mousse was a salty and sweet flavor. I kept on saying to myself that I want to go here and here I am right now. One of the nicest places to go to in Newark. It looks very modern and beautiful as soon as I step in. It's very loud here and the staff are really taking good care of this restaurant. About this restaurant, this seems to be more of a fusion or New American restaurant since I'm seeing dishes with words like "birria" and "Korean". They also serve coffee, cocktails, and other types of drinks. So it seems like they're wanting to be as diverse as possible, but I honestly got no problem with that. They basically serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner especially happy hour only at certain days and times. I noticed that they gave me a brunch menu only since it's around 1pm, which is of course brunch at the time. I asked one of the staff about when lunch starts and apparently they start at 2:30pm. My issue is that they should be more transparent about the start and end times of breakfast and lunch for instance. Perhaps, a sign about hours of breakfast and other meal types would help. Otherwise, that leaves customers having to look up online so that they can come at the right time. They only have happy hour sign but not the sign of regular meal times? Anyways, I've been wanting to order my food as soon as possible but the service was quite slow. One of the managers apparently has to tell one of the waiters to take my order. At the same time, they have to do what's in front of them right now. Otherwise, they're just off guard with what they're doing. I didn't get any drink since I had matcha this morning as well as a cupcake. So at the same time, I need to watch my sugar levels. I did get one of the skillet and it had something like Korean fried chicken and kimchi with fajitas and potatoes. Honestly? It's very good and flavorful. Really love how crispy the chicken skin is. We ordered the Garden Skillet, French Toast, and KFC & Waffles. The chicken breast was extremely dry, and even the syrup couldn't save it. It also didn't taste freshly fried and seemed like it may have been sitting for a while. The waffle was definitely the better part of that dish. The Garden Skillet was bland and mostly filled with potatoes, with two eggs served on top. The French toast was drenched in syrup, which made it overly sweet and very soggy. The menu described it as coming with eggs Benedict, but it seemed more like over-easy eggs than a traditional eggs Benedict. I also ordered the fresh orange juice, but it didn't taste freshly squeezed--it seemed like it may have been diluted with regular orange juice. Had heard many wonderful things about TOAST & TONIQUE; it's the weekend and didn't have breakfast yet, finally made it to brunch, was pleasantly surprised. Where to begin? Lovely ambience, very chic! Seating is available while you check in and wait for a table. As we were a party of two and we didn't have a reservation, the hostess at the front desk informed me that the wait time is about 20 mins or I can be seated very soon if I choose bar seating. So, we chose bar seating and we were seated immediately. We were greeted immediately while seated at the bar and we ordered drinks and entrees. As it's brunch, menu for brunch was available. For the drinks, we had chose the cappuccino and chai tea and for the entrees, we chose the chocolate pancakes and steak & eggs. Our drinks were ready within five minutes and our entrees were brought to us about fifteen minutes later. Was a little disappointed in the drinks; the chai was very watered down and bland, tasted very watered down. Didn't finish the drink. Portions for our entrees, however, were decent sized and it was good. The staff is very kind and did check in on us, very patient and friendly. I would definitely return in the future; very open to trying something new on the menu. Very clean restaurant. Lovely presentation and quality; the food is good; reasonably priced. I heard about T&T through Instagram but had no idea they took over Pocha K's spot. Fun memories singing karaoke in the large room they had there. I wonder if most people expect to be asked temperature preference. The gravy was not what I expected. It was more Korean with the same sweet charred flavor as the oyster mushrooms. I wanted the traditional brown gravy. It wasn't bad, just not my preference. The rice was saturated with sauce and a tad undercooked. Maybe fluff up the rice a bit and use a bowl to shape it before crowning it with the patty, eggs, and gravy. Eggs were nice and runny! No complaints about them. Chocolate lava cake ended the meal on the sweetness note. Soft and moist chocolate cake with a hot melted center oozing out with each spoonful. Cool vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries rounded it out. Sophisticated, modern interior with wooden accents and cool light decor. I ordered a grilled chicken bowl and every single item was burnt except the rice and avocado. What we ordered: * Loco Moco ($20.99) - The portion was not so generous, and there was a bit too much moco sauce for my liking, and the beef patty was on the dry side. * Bombay Sliders ($19.99) - This wasn't really my favorite. My friends chicken and waffles had what looked like a kitchen towel string attached to it on the side- they replaced it but did not discount her meal at all. Went for Saturday Brunch and Overall it was a solid experience. The vibe was lively and the ambiance was good, restaurant is clean and simple. Cool logo.. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! I loved the Korean fried chicken skillet. It was very tasty, quite a combination of flavors that could work for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It included a large piece of chicken & 2 fried eggs on a bed of potatoes and kimchi, with some hollandaise sauce. It was a large enough portion that I took half home and had it for dinner. My wife got the Tiramisu French toast. If you're in the mood for dessert at breakfast, this definitely hits the spot. It was quite sweet, but decadent and delicious. The cocktails were on point. The Ube Martini my wife got was the highlight of her meal. I got the spicy strawberry margarita and it was fantastic. Not enough to take off a full star, but there were a combination of small things that weren't perfect for the price. A. The service. It was all friendly from the greeting to the seating and the server, but the service was just slow. The restaurant was full for brunch, but it's not a very big restaurant and there were multiple staff. We had to flag down someone first to order a second cocktail, then to get a to-go box, and a 3rd time at the end to get our check. B. Maybe I missed something in the communication but when I asked for water, I didn't expect to end up paying $7.50 for a bottle of Evian. This place is on the pricier side, but the food and drinks were quality and creative. And most importantly delicious. It's nice to have an upscale option like this in the Fremont/Newark area. Had no idea this place existed. Had a late night on 9/4 after refereeing a football game in San Ramon. Most places were closed in San Ramon and most back home in Newark were closed. This spot was one of the few open at 11pm. Located next to the Lion Market, there's plenty of parking. Since it was an hour before closing, it wasn't packed. There were some folks at the bar while I chose to be the only one in the table/booth sections. Service was fast, thankfully I was the only one ordering food. Ordered the pork belly bao buns, those were good. The pork belly was nice. The crispy chili they serve on the side has a real spicy kick to it. Once I finished the bao buns, the Seoul burger came out. On the recommendation of the server, I had the kimchi on the side. Interesting combo to have kimchi on a burger but it was good. The fried egg was a good touch too. For dessert, I had to order the ube cheesecake. It wasn't sweet. Nice dish to end the night. As for drinks, I ordered the velvet mule and the sincere granada cider. Not too many places have cider so that was new. All in all, great spot. I'll have to try it out for breakfast/lunch when there's more people. Don't let this fail Newark, it's a great, new spot with an array of food. Happy hour is 3-6pm Tues-Sun. read more

Me and some of friends decided to try this place out after it sadly took over Pocha K. We miss Pocha K so much. I was hesitant on trying this place bc it has all kinds of cuisines not just one. I feel the authentic tastes won't be there and I was right. We ordered two appetizers Pork belly baos and street corn. The baos were decent the sauce was Americanized to me but the bao bun was good n soft. The corn was okay nothing special. All 4 of us shared several entrees. The citrus sauce quail w/ quinoa & broccolini (tasty tender liked the sauce) confit pork shank (it was okay), butter chicken tacos (dry dry chicken I kept CHOKING on how dry the meat was) the creamy poblano pesto shrimp pasta (one of the best dishes there) Ordered 3 desserts to share. Ube cheesecake (it was terrible no flavor/ no taste of Ube) strawberry cake (tasted frozen and the middle strawberry filling tasted so artificial) we didn't finish or take any more bites of those two desserts. The lava cake was OK nothing special. Tasted frozen too. We told the Waiter we didn't like or eat anymore of the two desserts and luckily they took the two desserts off the bill. I came here after seeing all the ads and TikTok videos but it was a bit of a let down. This place is a Mexican Asian fusion restaurant and the interior made me really excited to start eating. The decor and choice of table setting finishes are really polished and makes you feel you are fine dining. The dishes themselves were pretty disappointing. I got the Korean fried chicken plate and my chicken was really overcooked and dry under the nice coat of breading. The rice didn't really have much flavor. We also got the sizzling plate that came out not sizzling at all and the salsa didn't kick at all. The service was cool, the staff is pretty attentive and will recommend some options that we unfortunately didn't take. He recommended the meatballs which I wasn't really feeling. The exterior is non descipt. In a strip mall! But the interiors of this space look amazing. I had high hopes.... A busboy said, let me get someone....it took a few minutes for someone to finally greet us. It was not very busy. We were seated. Given water. We asked about specials...none, we asked what was popular and the waiter mentioned a dish that had mixed reviews. I wanted a safe bet and I love Eggs Benedict. Great to see it on the menu, with spinach double yum...! The food came, it looked amazing. 2 of us had Eggs Benedict. Another friend had the CroqueMadame w/a lovely side salad and with a perfect soft cooked Sunnyside up egg. Then....saddness....the taste was bland. Not tasteless but not tasty. Maybe they are light handed on the salt...but no SP on the table!? And sadly our poached eggs for the benedicts were hard boiled.... For me, Egg Benedict eggs should be poached soft and runny....see the photo..those are "hard" boiled eggs... Should I have complained? Probably. But I was hungry and the waiter never came back to check on us until we were all finished(!). This place popped up through a notification about new restaurants in my area so I decided to give it a try. The staff was extremely attentive upon entering and quickly seated us. Our waitress brought us meus and then began going through a list of items on the menu that were not available. I noticed a strong unpleasant smell coming from the menu itself, I think it was the material they used. At a first glance of the menu it was a little overwhelming, not necessarily from the options itself but more so all the different flavor profiles. I think there are too many different types of food and should stick with things that bring more consistency. Some of the food was unfortunately under cooked and two of the drinks were great but the third one was not good. The pineapple upside down cake was good the churros not so much. Our waitress said we ordered more of the popular items from the menu and shared the Happy Hour times as well as the brunch menu with us. This is a nice big establishment that has great potential it just needs to review what works and what does not. I found this place on TikTok, and of course, my first thought was that the interior looked beautiful and the food looked good. Unfortunately, my actual experience was disappointing. First, the music was extremely loud. I understand wanting a lively atmosphere, but this is a restaurant, not a club. My friends and I had to speak loudly just to hear each other, which made the dining experience uncomfortable. The service was also disappointing from the beginning. My two friends and I were seated at the bar because the wait for a table was already too long, and we figured sitting at the bar would be quicker. The hostess told us she would double-check the bar and then brought us over. However, when we arrived, there were still cups with alcohol left on the table from the previous customers. If the table had been checked before seating us, I would have expected it to be cleared and ready. The bartender who served us also took quite a while to bring us water and utensils. Her demeanor came across as unfriendly and as though she didn't want to be there. I completely understand that everyone has bad days, but that shouldn't translate into making customers feel unwelcome, especially when it's their first visit. When we were ready to order, I asked for the strawberry French toast. The bartender immediately responded in an irritated tone, "We're out of that, sorry." I had no problem with the item being unavailable, but the tone made the interaction feel unnecessarily rude. There was also no warm welcome, no explanation of the menu, and very little effort to make us feel like valued customers. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was how differently my friends and I were treated. One of my friends ordered a chocolate martini, and the bartender suggested a matcha martini to my other friend. My friend initially declined, saying it was okay, but the bartender went ahead and made the drink anyway, then told her, "Thank you for waiting, it's on the house." She ultimately comped both drinks, which was a nice gesture toward my friends. However, I couldn't help but notice that I wasn't offered the same courtesy, despite also having an unpleasant interaction and having my original order unavailable. It created an awkward dynamic and honestly made me feel as though I was somehow the problem, even though I was polite throughout the entire interaction and made sure to say "please" and "thank you." I've never experienced something like this at a restaurant before. Unfortunately, the service left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, and that overshadowed the fact that the restaurant itself is aesthetically beautiful. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. A fascinating place. Hidden inside an otherwise humble strip mall is this very stylish, luxurious, and upscale restaurant. I was actually quite shocked walking in - it was like being teleported to the type of establishment you'd expect to see in San Francisco or the Peninsula, not in Newark. The menu was unique as well. It had dishes from all over the place. Korean Fried Chicken was listed next to Fish & Chips and next to Samosa Burgers. I came in expecting an American restaurant sort of theme, but it kind of defies categorization. Think of the Cheesecake Factory's diversity, but with a much smaller and manageable menu. Keep in mind that brunch, which seems to have a lot of delectable options, is limited to certain hours. My wife and I ordered the Samosa Burger, Fish & Chips, and chocolate lava cake. All of them exceeded our expectations, especially the lava cake! I guess I thought that a newer restaurant with such a diverse menu might have mediocre food quality. I was wrong. Expertly done, right out of the gate. Everything was flavorful and the textures were fantastic. Can I go back to talking about the atmosphere? The black walls, the warmly lit bar, the trendy music, and the ketchup served to us in a tiny holder on a large plate? I loved it. Anyway, I'd suggest giving this place a try. It's perfect for dates or any other special occasion where you want to go somewhere a little bit more impressive. The servers were also nice, attentive, and well-dressed. In Newark, CA of all places.
