This is my least favorite W XYZ bar and lounge, of the four I've been to (the ones in the south bay are better). The Newark location is smaller and simpler, and the atmosphere is not as inviting, especially with noisy kids running amok and banging on things repeatedly, parents incapable of controlling their unruly children (which is why they don't belong in bars), a strange vibe not ideal for couples just trying to have a chill night out. But at least the service was good, one guy workin hard manning the entire bar and lounge. They were out of limoncello on Saturday evening, so we ended up getting The Mahoney, Viva, and a gin martini. The specialty cocktails were pretty good, especially the Viva. The bartender also gave us free shots of martell cognac before we left. read more

Decent hotel bar in a decent hotel. While the beer tap list wasn't stunning, they did have one good, local IPA on tap and that's really all I needed. I sat down here after a long day of work and asked what they had on tap and the answer was: three IPAs, a lager, and two other beers I forget named by style rather than brewery and name. All the beers were things I'd had or wasn't interested in except for the Del Cielo IPA. I had to come back up and ask for the name of the IPA to figure out that it was What A Feelin'. The beer was actually really, really good and I haven't heard of or tried the brewery before. The actual ambiance of the bar is very hotel feel, but not in an entirely bad way. Unfortunately the last time I went back in July seemed to be it's peak. Not sure what happened but we haven't had a good experience here ever since. The vibes are decent but the cocktails are meh. For the price per cocktail, I'd go to another bar that has better drinks. They also seem to always be out of a number of cocktails and we've stopped by on a Friday and Saturday evening previously. The cocktails I did have were a bit too sweet for my tastes (maybe too much syrup). If you do go here, I'd recommend ordering some classic simple cocktails instead of ordering off the menu if you're not into super sweet drinks. read more

Sorry to say, this place had gone way downhill on my last visit. Since Marriott took over, the W XYZ branding is gone and it's just "Aloft." The soggy fries were more like any other restaurant, and the soda was noticeably watered down. The steak cut has been downgraded to ribeye. I'm glad I was able to enjoy it when Starwood was striving to bring a premium experience to budget-conscious consumers. Great place to have a drink, enjoy some light bites, good music and some great company. Julio is a fantastic bartender; friendly and attentive and really knows his stuff. He even helped me to find a new pinot noir to enjoy since they don't carry my favorite brand here. There is a firepit outside by the pool. They also have a hot tub, corn hole and lots of seating outside. Since the bar area was crowded, I decided to sit outside and enjoy my drink. Despite being swamped at the bar, little did I know that Julio was keeping an eye on me and was right on time with a fresh glass of wine just as I was taking my last sip. I stayed in Aloft Silicon Valley in May 2018 and came back again couple weeks ago and was still amazed by this cool and hospitable spot hiding in the hotel. Friendly staff, talented Chef, amazing service, and intimate atmosphere. Seared Ahi Tuna Salad and brown rice bowl are MUST HAVE. The tuna was cooked well but still beautifully raw in the center, extremely fresh and solid. I like the lemon vinaigrette too. The salmon brown rice bowl is also my favorite. The salmon was fresh and grilled perfect. The brown rice bowl was a little bit greasy but the flavor was soooooo good. They should change the name of this dish from brown rice bowl to something more attractive. The curry cauliflower was baked perfectly and the curry sauce was just so matched with cauliflower. The pasta was a little bit oily but it tasted so good so I still finished it. It's a good choice when you don't have mood for too much meat. The vanilla ice cream is also MUST TRY. Not too sweet, but very tasty. I even ask the Chef what brand it is. It turns out the Chef makes it himself with secret recipes. The BEST ice cream ever, no exaggeration! They also carry good alcohol. There is happy hours in the afternoon. And also live music on Tuesday evening!!! read more

Wife and I wanted to grab a quick drink, but to sit and talk since we had a baby sitter for an hour. This is the closest bar to our house so we thought we'd give it a shot. Usually, this hotel doesn't have full occupancy, but to our surprise, we probably came on the busiest night ever! They were hosting Newark Memorial's Class of 1994 20 year reunion, so the DJ, which I may add was playing some killer songs, was thumping at the pool but could be heard through the lobby and from the parking lot, and people were everywhere! Why was there only one bartender though? She was non-stop moving from one person to another and on to another. The problem with this is that she was not washing her hands between making drinks and handling money/credit cards. Ordered an Old Fashion with Makers Mark and wife ordered Saphire Tonic. Old fashion wasn't made correctly (she used an orange slice instead of the peel, bar syrup instead of sugar, and I didn't see her put bitters in it). In the end, we paid $13 for my drink and $15 for my wife's drink. Pretty expensive or technically "average" SF bar prices, but we're not in SF, we're in NEWARK! Not sure if I would come back to hang out at the bar. The floor plan in the lobby/bar look pretty similar when it was the W hotel, but everything looks a little more modern with the furniture and lighting. Revamping this bar is perfect for out-of-towners being courted by dotcoms, trying to impress and hire new brains for Silicon Valley. I've stayed at many alofts and the food here is much much better than any other aloft hotel I've been to. The service is very friendly and accommodating. What a mellow laid-back place. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere but it does get crowded around six with Silicon Valley tech people -nothing that's unmanageable. The bar food is good the drinks are great, but the bartender is the best! His name is Miguel and he is the nicest, most considerate bartender I've ever had. Perfect quiet place to have a drink. This bar is inside Aloft Silicon Valley Hotel and completely off the grid. They have very nice modern decor and just absolutely love their chimney. Their mixed drinks are that great, I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea and it wasn't all that great. On the next round I asked for a Jameson on the Rocks with an Orange twist and that was just what I was hoping for. I am not sure if it gets busy ever, since this is my second time visiting this bar and neither of those times did I see a crowd in here. Came by for Happy Hour; Monday - Friday 4-6pm. $5 lite bites, $5 fresh crafted cocktails and $5 beers! It's such a great deal and it's super chill. I live a few blocks away from here and never thought about coming by. Glad I did. The service was amazing. The drinks were ah-mazing. Simple but delicious. I love fresh fruit cocktails. Def gotta come here more often! It's funny because I actually had my wedding ceremony at this hotel and it was PERFECT. After the ceremony, everyone went to the bar and grabbed drinks before they headed to the reception at a restaurant near by. Arrived to the aloft hotel late me and my wife wanted to go out for a night drink we decided to just hang out at the bar.. met these really cool bartenders who helped us plan our trip for the next day we didn't drink any cocktails we just had a few beer can't go wrong I had the primavera pasta wich was Ok... my wife and I shared the bruchetta came with burrata cheese it was good and she had a turkey club with sweet potato fries wich was also good.. over all great experience great people we spent 99$ on 6 beers 1 app and 2 main dishes. read more
