The Flo is one of those rare Fremont spots that's been around forever. It's one of the last true adult hangouts in the area. Totally unique in location, ambiance and patronage (people from all walks of life come here - from bikers, blue collar workers, tech bros and long-time locals). You can see and feel the history the moment you walk in. It's part dive, part community hub, and part time capsule in the best way. Because the Flo holds a special place in my heart, I wanted to share a few supportive thoughts. I think the Flo has so much potential, and a few small tweaks could make a big difference. I know it would for me and other regulars who find ourselves stopping in less and less. Bartenders: Read the Room Afternoons often draw an older crowd that loves to chat and socialize. Keeping the music at a comfortable volume during those hours helps people enjoy the vibe without shouting over the jukebox. A little attention to the atmosphere goes a long way. Along those lines, consistent heat in the winter and AC in the summer would make the space more comfortable. It's amazing how much it influences whether people stay for one drink or settle in for the afternoon. Management: The Flo has a very loyal customer base. The folks who come here already know it, love it, and want to support it. Leaning into that core audience and maybe doing something simple like a basic SWOT analysis could spark some great ideas for keeping business strong. Keeping the door propped open might seem inviting, but the foot traffic in this area isn't really the bar's crowd. The magic of the Flo comes from the people who intentionally choose to be here. All of this comes from a place of appreciation. There are many of us who don't just want the Flo to stick around, we want it to thrive. With a few thoughtful updates, it can continue to be a beloved Fremont spot for years to come. read more

Met up with some friends for dinner in Fremont, but we really needed drinks cause the restaurant did not have a liquor license. Searching on Yelp, Florence came up....why not? The drive over I kept thinking, "Where the heck am I going?" But once you turn down Niles Blvd. you are transported to a different era. It looks like a quaint little suburb of Fremont. Great set-up in the front. Large bar and tables with chairs. Pool table in the back. It's a bar. It's a bar you look forward to coming to because it's laid back. Had we not had dinner, the tacos looked good! Great pour on my Jameson! The bartender was very friendly! I'm not sure if it was Gracie or Jen the mermaid...LOL! Allow me to say, that with the exception of enlisted clubs at military bases in my younger days... I am NOT a "bar guy". That said, the ole Florence is an icon and the ONE bar I will gladly go to. The bartenders are fantastic, it's always a great day when you can sit down and talk with Gracie. Excellent service and the food / music nights are just the best. I hope the doors stay open on this joint another 100 years. Even late night on the weekends, the place is enjoyable. No shenanigans. No ratchet hijinks. Good staff, good food, great drinks. I rated this establishment 3 stars but .....when Jen the mermaid is working its is a minimum of 10 stars! She's the type of employee when she walks in the customers are so happy to see. She's so positive happy engaging. She is the type of employee /person that one would want to have working for them if they were a manager or owner of a business. When she walked into her job, she seems like she literally likes being there and she's a happy person and do I need to mention she makes the bomb bloody Mary's.. it's gotten to the point where I walk by and if I don't see her. Aggressive bar tenders. Never again. Under new management. Loved going there a few years ago. We peeked in on a hot day and got screamed at, I mean vulgar screaming from bartender and her boyfriend. My husband approached him with his hands up trying to tell them to stop yelling and calling me a b for leaving door open to ask about a tee shirt. I was behind my husband and saw her boyfriend get up and used both hands to push my husband. Knocked him down, which knocked me down. Broke my hip and had to be carried out. Surgery next day. I've gone to this biker bar on Niles in Fremont for karaoke a few times. Tonight was awful. The kj BILL put this skinny blonde that can't sing on twice. Then when I asked when I was up, he upt me in next. Then he put her in yet again! I asked if maybe she tipped better than my $5 tip, and he said no. She never tipped him. So, I left. A friend of mine bf's band played here last night so we came to support the band and check out the bar. Its definitely a dive bar but who doesn't love dive bars. It's a typical small dive bar with memorabilia all over. The bartenders were awesome and they were fast with getting our drinks. The drinks are strong. They have pool tables and a juke box. Our bartender Ramona was awesome and super sweet. She has a contagious smile. The other bartender working with her (didn't catch her name) was very funny and has a take no sh*t attitude. Love it! If I'm in Fremont at any point I will probably come here again as everyone was really friendly and we even danced. It wasn't super crowded but it was cool. read more

This bar looked intriguing to me so I have gone twice trying to grab a drink with a friend and they have ignored us twice. No one tries to help or talk to us, just ignores us. And after that first time we were very offended but decided to move on and try again. But it happened again to us. And what's even worse is as we patiently waited, they helped another customer first who they knew who stood next to us after we were already there for minutes. So we just left. The Florence is a great little bar amidst a bunch of antique stores in the Niles district of Fremont. It would be considered a biker bar by anyone who's ever been in one but the staff and regulars are all good friendly people and anyone & everyone's welcome. This is definately the place to be on any given Sunday, especially if you're looking for good food, good drink, and great music. The BBQs on Sunday's and the dining is casual. The foods good, you get a lot of it and the price is really reasonable. If you go through the bar, and beyond the dining room (which is decorated as a Clamper clubhouse) you can walk right up to the grill man (who was also the cashier) and tell him what you want. For $9 this past Sunday it was your choice of chicken or steak, grilled to order, with all the sides in a buffet line. I had the steak which was grilled perfectly and more than I could eat. Those who ordered the chicken got what looked to be a 1/2 chicken and I didn't see anyone finish it, and I'm talking about some pretty big guys who can really pack it away. The sides included a huge baked potato (butter & sour cream), chili, french bread & salad. With a cold brew it was the perfect meal. Your bartenders, Dottie and Terri, are friendly and move fast. I really liked that even when they're serving someone else you're still greeted when you approach the bar. This is one place you know you'll never be ignored !! The live music is what keeps the place packed til closing. It's a little rock with a lot of rhythm and blues.
