I loved this restaurant. It was the closest thing left to El Burro in the Bay Area. I have ordered at least 10 times in the last 6 months. My previous order was supposed to contain all shredded beef, that was substituted without warning by shredded chicken. I'm allergic to chicken. But as I said, I loved this place, so I tried it again. Bad idea. Food arrived lukewarm despite being quickly and directly delivered. That's a big problem because the shredded beef is stewed. It should be at least 140f when the food was prepped. It was not. How do I know? Because when contaminated stewed meat is held below 140f dangerous bacteria (clostridium perfringens) develop and make people sick. All three people who had the stewed beef also had food poisoning and were tested to have this bacteria and it could have only come from Casa Azteca. I'm heartbroken. I loved this place. But when trust is lost, it's almost impossible to regain. read more

After reading so many positive reviews, we came here to try the food. First, the decor and ambiance. The restaurant is classically Mexican, with framed paintings of Aztecs, faux adobe walls, and some lovely chandeliers. The seats could use some fresh stuffing, but overall the interior was a delight. The chips and salsa were a delight. The chips had something extra, maybe a touch of lime. I ordered a Cadillac margarita and the husband ordered a bourbon smash. He enjoyed his a great deal. Mine was, sadly, mediocre. I think they used an off the shelf mix and adding good tequila to a poor mix will mix make a good drink. I requested since fresh lime and that helped. I think I will order off the specialty cocktail menu next time. I explained I needed Gluten Free and Dairy Free and Dairy Free and our waitress confirmed my choice (steak ala Mexicana) me that criteria. The husband had shrimp al mojo de ajo. We both enjoyed our choices a great deal. The portions were generous and there is plenty to take home. The service was solid and so was the service ambiance. We were in Milpitas neighborhood and found this highly rated Mexican restaurant. We walked in without reservation on a Friday night and it was busy but not so busy to get a table right away. The paintings and lighting in the restaurant were very warm and welcoming! We ordered drinks and entrees in 5-7 minutes of seating and service was quick. We had chips and salsa served. We were served salad with thousand island dressing which was complimentary with the main entrees. Salad was not very fresh and dressing was very sweet and not tasty. I would skip it. Fajitas were good, my son enjoyed it a lot. It had lots of flavor and would reorder. Chicken Mole was good but the chicken was little chewy Chicken enchilada was my husbands favorite Lastly we had a slice of Tres Leches for the table which kids gobbled but for me it was very sweet and less moist. It's been awhile since our last visit here. It was nice to see the manager, Harry. Our server was Gustavo, who is our favorite. It was nice catching up with both of them. We were served cold water and chips and salsa right away. Gustavo took our order. We ordered their casa special margarita grande. It was huge and perfect for sharing and very tasty. They don't skimp on the alcohol either. I ordered the Chapala combo which is a taco and enchilada plate with beans and rice. I chose beef for the taco and chicken for the enchilada. Both were seasoned very well and were delicious. My husband got the shrimp and chicken fajitas with all the fixings. He loved it. Both our meals came with a side salad. We both chose the pepper corn ranch dressing. Our food came out quickly and ever this was made perfectly. You could hear the fajitas sizzling. The potions of our food were hefty. My boyfriend took me here for dinner on a Friday night. It was my first time here but he's familiar with it. I guess this place has been around for a long time because he used to frequent it in high school. When we walked in, it was crowded at all. We were greeted and sat right away. Finally was able to dine at this place that I kept passing by. Heard it from a couple people to try this place and they have year after year winning award for best restaurant. Quaint restaurant near the crossroads of Calaveras and Abel Street. It has been there for years and preserved their culture with paintings and other decorations. Our favorite Mexican restaurant closed several years ago and we've been on a hunt to find something similar ever since. Yelp suggested Casa Azteca so we thought we'd give them a try. It's a little out of our way coming from Campbell but we all agreed it was worth it. Located is a strip mall in Milpitas, Casa Azteca has made this its home for over 40 years! It's as old school as it gets and exactly what we're were looking for. The decor is classic old school Mexican with dark chunky heavy wood furniture, heavy rod iron chandlers with amber glass and murals on the walls. I loved it!!! Customer service was EXCEPTIONAL! From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we were taken care of. Just outstanding. Now let's talk about the food! Here's what we had: Complementary chips and salsa . Many reviews said they didn't care for the salsa. It's got a little kick to it and isn't your typical salsa but it was still tasty and the chips were warm. CASA AZTECA MARGARITA - we got a pitcher of this and it was probably one of the best margaritas I've had. No acidic after taste just super refreshing and just enough tequila to make the cost completely worth it. GUACAMOLE - this was just okay in my opinion. I added some salsa to it and that kinda helped. Don't get me wrong, there wasn't anything wrong with it, just wasn't memorable. CHILI COLORADO - my Dad loved this. The meat was so tender and flavorful and served with beans, rice and warm tortillas. COMBO PLATE - my brother got the chicken enchilada and beef taco. This also comes with beans and rice. He cleaned his plate! CHICKEN ENCHILADA PLATE - the chicken was so tender and juicy!! Just yum!! The rice and beans were also delicious. Prices aren't cheep but the quality of the food is worth it. This restaurant has been around for decades in Milpitas (at least 40 years?) and has a legacy for whipping up Mexican cuisine classics. I ordered the Tradicionales Enchiladas ($20.00) which is described on the menu as "two corn tortillas filled with your choice of Beef, Chicken, Cheese, or Grilled Veggies covered with a mild red chili sauce and cheese. Served with Spanish rice and refried beans. My girl ordered their Street Tacos (Set Of 3) ($12.00) which is described on the menu as "Choice of Grilled Chicken, Carne Asada, Carnitas, or Fish. Served with cilantro, onion, lime wedges, and salsa verde." Along with the Pico De Gallo and complimentary chips and salsa -- our server also shared his secret house hot sauce made out of habanero peppers.
