A15 - Large Bowl of Braised Pork Rice (comes with the soup, Top Left), A3 - Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Soup

I've been itching to try this place after passing it by so many times from going to Tous les Jours next door. I think they also advertise outside that this place is "no tip" as well which is a breath of fresh air from every place starting with 15% tip for just handing you the food you ordered. [[ Service ]] This place was packed on Sunday night at 6pm when we went. It just reminds me of like an open food court vibe where you go up to the counter to order the food, they hand you the puck that vibrates when your order is ready, and you go sit anywhere you like. I literally got my puck and in less than 5 minutes, my food is ready. I thought they move quickly with how many people there were inside. [[ Food ]] At first I thought the food we ordered was "boring". It tastes good but it was very plain with not much going on in the actual meal. HOWEVER, we quickly learned that the magic is actually in their toppings bar where you can mix and match whatever you want to make the dish your own. After grabbing a ton of stuff and mixing it up inside our dish, it was SUPER DELICOUS. We ordered: 1.) A3 - Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Soup 2.) A15 - Large Bowl of Braised Pork Rice [[ Conclusion ]] I definitely will come back here again since it's a no bullshit and fast kind of place to get a delicious meal for relatively cheap.

Old Gui Lin is a fairly new Gui Lin style self service quick style restaurant. It's no frills and definitely worth trying out! It's refreshing to see this kind of restaurant model -- it's no tip and mostly self-service. Once you walk into the restaurant, you head to the cashier and they'll take your order and hand you a puck that'll vibrate once your order is done. I opted for the A4 - the pork dry tossed rice noodle. I originally was going to order the A8, and the cashier told me (with a ramen sample) that an instant ramen would be used. I made a quick change as I'd prefer other noodles, ordered a soy milk as well, and was given a plastic sauce cup to fill my sauces (it was takeout order). Within two minutes my puck was already vibrating and the server handed me my order. The sauce bar contained many different toppings, from peanuts to chili oils, vinegars, bamboo shoots, pickled veggies, and more. I love how you can customize your noodle bowl to exactly how you want it! This place is a great new addition to the area and the portions are large too. It's fast, cheap, and good. Definitely coming back next time!

4.5 stars rounded down coz it's got uncomfortable but stylish stools. Food is definitely delicious whether it's beef stew or Guilin classic... the roast pork I thought can be softer rather than tough crunch. Choice of white round noodles or yellow noodles or rice is a good touch for this type of cuisine. It's a self service place where you order & pay at the counter. Quite an easy process. Having a single register does present some waiting time if everyone arrives at the same time. A convenient buzzer gadget lets you know when your meal is ready. Then you can point & select condiments from the wait staff. Because it's self serve & they ask that you bus the trays & bowls, they refuse tips! Recommended no non-sense noodle place with tasty simple menu.

Very good Guilin noodles! I followed their instructions to eat the noodles and found that I enjoyed the dry version without the bone broth more. I didn't like the special pancake rolls that much - the meat was on the skimpier side, and the pancake could be a bit crispier, but there were crispy bits inside for added texture. One thing that stood out about this place is the self-serve, no tipping model. It's rare to see it these days. Casual, no fuss place. Will definitely come back to try other dishes!

I was hoping one would open in the bay ever since I tried the one in Sac. I loveee the concept of getting to pick your noodle/rice dish and then adding a bunch of toppings :) You go in, order at the counter, pay (no tip), you get a buzzer and get a seat and wait for your order. Good amount of seating available even though it gets busy. Once it buzzes, you go to the counter and let them know what toppings you want. The sac one has a bar where you do it yourself, but this location doesn't. At least they don't skimp though! I recommend getting vinegar while you're there. Water is all filled and ready to grab as well. When you're done, you put your own dishes/tray away. Items: I got the A2 beef brisket dry tossed rice noodles and my bf got the A1 guilin rice noodles. I also got the beef rolled pancake. Everything was great in taste and portion! Would love to go back and try their other items like the old guilin special pancake :)

The service was fast and the food was yummy. You order at the counter and get a tag that vibrates when your food is ready. Self seat, self service, self bus. Water was up on the counter by where you get your food, and bussing bins are set up in the corner. I went during lunch as it was not busy. My sister came during dinner and said it was also not busy, but the restaurant was very hot. Maybe they don't have A/C? I liked that you could choose which toppings you wanted on your dish, they ask when you pick up your food. The toppings added alot of flavor, the dish was pretty light otherwise. The pig ears were kind of hard still, but were good after I packed it home and reheated them. I got rice noodles with braised pork. The rice noodles were thick, but overcooked for my preference. The braised pork was light in flavor. The toppings added texture and the pickles did alot for flavor. There is chili oil on the table.

This was a tasty restaurant. I like that you order before sitting and there is no tipping! They are very fast and lots of seating room. The food is good, although I was extremely sleepy and thirsty after so there probably was MSG in the soup base.

LOVED THIS PLACE. No frills, no tipping, no service. Just order food, grab it yourself and sit down to eat. The fried pork belly is an absolute must!! But their brisket is really good too, especially if you enjoy large cartilage chunks. The portions for their bowls were also very generous. And when you pick up your food, you can choose more toppings to top your bowl. I got everything on it - absolutely flavorful and delicious. I also got their special pancake, which has porkbelly in it and, while oily, was very tasty.

Decently priced noodle and rice bowls with unlimited toppings (pickled greens, cilantro, peanuts, bamboo shoots, etc). Lots of seating. You do have to get your own food and clean up after yourself. My only complaint is that the rice is mushy.

    Ariel C.

This place was SO GOOD! Cafeteria style restaurant with a good amount of options- mostly rice noodles but had other choices too. There was a station to choose your own sauces and toppings so you can customize your noodles however you like. Flavor and noodle texture was perfect, price was super reasonable (and no service charge!), and service was quick. The atmosphere was very casual but comfortable and clean. Will definitely be coming back!

So delicious, I love the spicy sour taste of gui Lin noodles. This place is super fast, I love all the toppings of pickled beans and crunchy soybeans and they're unlimited.

I noticed this place ever since it opened but this was my first time there. It's across the Pineapple King. The place is pretty clean and spacious. It's more like cafeteria style. People there were very friendly and attentive. I had their Guilin Noodles (A1) and Beef pancake (B5) as suggested by the cashier. Both were pretty good. I really liked the self-served toppings counter in particularly their chili oil and sauce (even it's not that hot). Definitely will go back to tried other noodles and dishes...

A1 Guilin rice noodle + A20 braised pork
    Robert C.

Tried out this new place for weekend dinner, it is like cafeteria style - order and pay (no tipping) then help yourself to toppings and seating. I got their A1 guilin rice noodle with A20 braised pork, overall 4.5/5 rounded up. Everything was pretty good and tasty along with nice portion sizing. Loved that they gave a lot of meat and their rice noodles were perfect texture. Lot of seating in a spacious place, plenty of parking, quick turnaround on food.

Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed with what we got. I ordered an iced Black Forest mocha and my sister got an iced island latte. Both drinks were underwhelming. Mine mostly tasted like sweetened milk, and I couldn't taste any espresso or raspberry flavor at all. I'm honestly not sure if my order was made incorrectly or if something was just off. My sister's drink tasted like watered-down coconut milk with very little flavor. We were disappointed enough that we ended up tossing both drinks on our way home. Not what we were hoping for.

Their dinner is now only prix fixe. My first impression was how elegant and modern the decor was. I made a reservation and was seated right away. Their brunch menu ranged from Japanese interpretations of American classics like chicken & waffle and eggs Benedict, to sushi dishes, to rice dishes, to sandos (sandwiches). We ordered a lot so that we could try a bit of everything. Our food came out quickly, and each plate was beautifully presented. While every dish was very tasty, none of the dishes really blew me away. Our server was efficient but didn't smile once. It's not that big a deal, but a little smile is very welcoming and makes a difference. However, Jose, who was preparing the food, brought a few of our dishes out and each time he gave us a huge smile. What we ordered: + Short rib rice teishoku set - Elegantly presented, this was our favorite. The short rib literally melts in your mouth. The soup had a deep fried tofu pocket floating on top. The salad was above average, and even the rice seemed special. + Chicken croffle toast - this was very good and much bigger than I expected. There was probably about 4-5 tender chicken thighs in a crunchy coating. It had the same flavor as karage. The croffle (croisant waffle) was ok, but not as good as waffle imo. + Chutoro (medium fat) tuna nigiri - a perfect bite. When I looked under the tuna, I only saw about a 1/2 a pinky size of rice, but that turned out to be the perfect ratio. + Mochi waffle - you get your choice of matcha or ube flavor. I chose matcha. This was very good, but didn't get a whole lot of matcha flavor. + Macaroni salad - the weakest dish. It just tasted like your typical macaroni salad. Overall, it's about 4.5 stars. The food, while very good, didn't blow me away as I would expect from an upscale place. However, the entire experience, atmosphere, and quick service bumped it up to 5 stars.

We truly appreciated being checked on, although the only thing I'd advise is that once your customers get their food and you have asked if everything is OK 1-2 times, to please allow your customers to enjoy the food.. We were approached almost every 2 minutes by different hosts, the owner and another maybe co-owner Fidel - constantly being asked if everything was OK or if we needed more coffee which was asked in total about 8 times (not exaggerating as we were asked by different people lol). We felt as if we were being monitored the entire time and couldn't enjoy our time to eat and talk. as someone who has the diet of a moderately carnivorous unemployed divorced man this place is…read morepretty good! i wasn't sure at first whether their stuff would taste good but it was not bad, especially considering the quality and mission of the business. also the owner is super cool location - in the plaza near ohlone. has a staircase going down (don't trip! a vegan GF chocolate cake won't cure a broken ankle). the place is very earthy, foresty, garden of eden esque. my question is why be so earthy in your decor and NOT PLAY AN ERYKAH BADU SONG??? badu the queen of earthiness herself. not even a shoutout. ugh. yall should be BLASTING her songs on repeat until people get sick of her voice service - great! got to know the owner sway who is super nice. noticed affirmations for coworkers on the wall, so cute! food - yes yes everyone is saying it's overpriced. lowkey it is. i'm not gonna complain because the quality is better. it is funny though that they're near ohlone which is chock full of broke teens so maybe not the best for business HAHA iced matcha latte (like $10 i think): not bad! creamy, nice color. a little too light on the matcha so don't expect an entire field of japanese grass in your drink. better if unsweetened trust me. 7/10 chocolate cake with vanilla frosting ($7 ish?): somehow achieved a deliciously light frosting and moist semisweet cake! considering their limitations that is impressive. 9/10 overall 4/5. fnf slays. if i come back and they play badu i will move it to 5/5. great for people with diet stuff idk (i don't play with diets sorry guys)

Looks like I just missed my ability to try this place. I've almost gone multiple times and then…read morefinally went today only to find out they've just closed. Looks like you can catch them at farmers markets and personal phone orders. Too bad, so sad!
