    dry noodle/beef noodle soup

no tip restaurant great prices for the noodles. i got it for takeout so no notes on service or ambiance but I will say these hold very well overnight in the fridge. the soup is very gelatinous but flavorless so the toppings are important.

This place used to be the Old Taro Taiwanese bento place -- but they have since moved to Las Vegas. I'm glad they kept the "old" in their name -- despite creating much different cuisine than what the previous owners wanted. The best part about this place is that they DO NOT accept any tips -- or extra costs on sauces or inclusions. Everything is included (small tips of side dishes), and you put everything back yourself into the bins specifically located for the bowls. I love their sauce bar too -- you get to add whatever you want without any additional price. Best of all, they also have more than just soy milk -- they also have chrysanthemum tea in bottle as well? The ambiance is a little bit on the dark end, but I think it's much better now that it's more spaced out and what not. The service at this place is phenomenal -- they look out for their customers as much as they look out for each other. I got the classic Guilin rice noodles -- and the broth was just REALLY fresh, with a little bit of kick to the chili sauce that was already included in there. Adding the already free inclusions made everything so much better, and rich to the taste as well.

I've been itching to try this place after passing it by so many times from going to Tous les Jours next door. I think they also advertise outside that this place is "no tip" as well which is a breath of fresh air from every place starting with 15% tip for just handing you the food you ordered. [[ Service ]] This place was packed on Sunday night at 6pm when we went. It just reminds me of like an open food court vibe where you go up to the counter to order the food, they hand you the puck that vibrates when your order is ready, and you go sit anywhere you like. I literally got my puck and in less than 5 minutes, my food is ready. I thought they move quickly with how many people there were inside. [[ Food ]] At first I thought the food we ordered was "boring". It tastes good but it was very plain with not much going on in the actual meal. HOWEVER, we quickly learned that the magic is actually in their toppings bar where you can mix and match whatever you want to make the dish your own. After grabbing a ton of stuff and mixing it up inside our dish, it was SUPER DELICOUS. We ordered: 1.) A3 - Beef Brisket Rice Noodle Soup 2.) A15 - Large Bowl of Braised Pork Rice [[ Conclusion ]] I definitely will come back here again since it's a no bullshit and fast kind of place to get a delicious meal for relatively cheap.

Old Gui Lin is a fairly new Gui Lin style self service quick style restaurant. It's no frills and definitely worth trying out! It's refreshing to see this kind of restaurant model -- it's no tip and mostly self-service. Once you walk into the restaurant, you head to the cashier and they'll take your order and hand you a puck that'll vibrate once your order is done. I opted for the A4 - the pork dry tossed rice noodle. I originally was going to order the A8, and the cashier told me (with a ramen sample) that an instant ramen would be used. I made a quick change as I'd prefer other noodles, ordered a soy milk as well, and was given a plastic sauce cup to fill my sauces (it was takeout order). Within two minutes my puck was already vibrating and the server handed me my order. The sauce bar contained many different toppings, from peanuts to chili oils, vinegars, bamboo shoots, pickled veggies, and more. I love how you can customize your noodle bowl to exactly how you want it! This place is a great new addition to the area and the portions are large too. It's fast, cheap, and good. Definitely coming back next time!

4.5 stars rounded down coz it's got uncomfortable but stylish stools. Food is definitely delicious whether it's beef stew or Guilin classic... the roast pork I thought can be softer rather than tough crunch. Choice of white round noodles or yellow noodles or rice is a good touch for this type of cuisine. It's a self service place where you order & pay at the counter. Quite an easy process. Having a single register does present some waiting time if everyone arrives at the same time. A convenient buzzer gadget lets you know when your meal is ready. Then you can point & select condiments from the wait staff. Because it's self serve & they ask that you bus the trays & bowls, they refuse tips! Recommended no non-sense noodle place with tasty simple menu.

Very good Guilin noodles! I followed their instructions to eat the noodles and found that I enjoyed the dry version without the bone broth more. I didn't like the special pancake rolls that much - the meat was on the skimpier side, and the pancake could be a bit crispier, but there were crispy bits inside for added texture. One thing that stood out about this place is the self-serve, no tipping model. It's rare to see it these days. Casual, no fuss place. Will definitely come back to try other dishes!

I was hoping one would open in the bay ever since I tried the one in Sac. I loveee the concept of getting to pick your noodle/rice dish and then adding a bunch of toppings :) You go in, order at the counter, pay (no tip), you get a buzzer and get a seat and wait for your order. Good amount of seating available even though it gets busy. Once it buzzes, you go to the counter and let them know what toppings you want. The sac one has a bar where you do it yourself, but this location doesn't. At least they don't skimp though! I recommend getting vinegar while you're there. Water is all filled and ready to grab as well. When you're done, you put your own dishes/tray away. Items: I got the A2 beef brisket dry tossed rice noodles and my bf got the A1 guilin rice noodles. I also got the beef rolled pancake. Everything was great in taste and portion! Would love to go back and try their other items like the old guilin special pancake :)

The service was fast and the food was yummy. You order at the counter and get a tag that vibrates when your food is ready. Self seat, self service, self bus. Water was up on the counter by where you get your food, and bussing bins are set up in the corner. I went during lunch as it was not busy. My sister came during dinner and said it was also not busy, but the restaurant was very hot. Maybe they don't have A/C? I liked that you could choose which toppings you wanted on your dish, they ask when you pick up your food. The toppings added alot of flavor, the dish was pretty light otherwise. The pig ears were kind of hard still, but were good after I packed it home and reheated them. I got rice noodles with braised pork. The rice noodles were thick, but overcooked for my preference. The braised pork was light in flavor. The toppings added texture and the pickles did alot for flavor. There is chili oil on the table.

This was a tasty restaurant. I like that you order before sitting and there is no tipping! They are very fast and lots of seating room. The food is good, although I was extremely sleepy and thirsty after so there probably was MSG in the soup base.

LOVED THIS PLACE. No frills, no tipping, no service. Just order food, grab it yourself and sit down to eat. The fried pork belly is an absolute must!! But their brisket is really good too, especially if you enjoy large cartilage chunks. The portions for their bowls were also very generous. And when you pick up your food, you can choose more toppings to top your bowl. I got everything on it - absolutely flavorful and delicious. I also got their special pancake, which has porkbelly in it and, while oily, was very tasty.

Decently priced noodle and rice bowls with unlimited toppings (pickled greens, cilantro, peanuts, bamboo shoots, etc). Lots of seating. You do have to get your own food and clean up after yourself. My only complaint is that the rice is mushy.

    Ariel C.

This place was SO GOOD! Cafeteria style restaurant with a good amount of options- mostly rice noodles but had other choices too. There was a station to choose your own sauces and toppings so you can customize your noodles however you like. Flavor and noodle texture was perfect, price was super reasonable (and no service charge!), and service was quick. The atmosphere was very casual but comfortable and clean. Will definitely be coming back!

So delicious, I love the spicy sour taste of gui Lin noodles. This place is super fast, I love all the toppings of pickled beans and crunchy soybeans and they're unlimited.

The chicken croffle toast is the perfect blend of sweet and savory that you can't stop eating. Although the short rib poutine is from their small plates, it was loaded with a generous amount of short rib on tots so can be a meal on its own if you're not sharing. If you want to eat at a place that has good quality and a big enough portion to either share or take home for leftovers then this is the place to go. There were some notable things that we stumbled across in our dining experience. I had noticed that one of the utensils wasn't washed properly so there was a dried up piece of vegetable or something stuck on it. Also I requested my burger to be cooked medium but when I received my order, it was more so well done with no pink in the middle. One of the two pork chop was cooked great, while the other was a little dry and chewy. Regardless, these were things that didn't warrant calling over a server. The thing that mainly put a stain for our restaurant outing at Skillet'z was the service. Upon walking in we were not greeted with a friendly welcoming and when seated they quickly walked away. The lady who took our order did not even look like she wanted to be there, granted I understand that nobody really enjoys having to go to work but if you need to interact with customers, maybe this isn't the occupation for you. While we were eating there was not a single time that anyone came up to us to ask us how we were doing, if we needed anything, or how the food was. There was a moment where it was someone's birthday at another table and I don't think I've ever heard a more unenthusiastic and monotone announcement for a birthday and a lame excuse for a birthday song. They're not going to bother with dropping off a check/bill for the meal so you need to go up to the counter to pay for the food. Once you step up to the counter keep in mind that more than likely you will encounter a rude interaction and a feeling that you were inconveniencing them. Overall I'll more than likely eat from here again, primarily for the food. But maybe next time we'll consider just taking out to go.

I've probably ordered that exact combination over a thousand times, and Country Way in Fremont makes it better than anyone.
