As someone who absolutely loves Taiwanese breakfast, Cafe Mei is one of my favorite spots in the Bay Area. In fact, it's the only dedicated Taiwanese breakfast place I know of around here! My family and I got there a little before they opened at 8am and were the second group in line. Within 10 minutes of opening, the place was packed. There was a steady stream of takeout and pickup orders too, so it's clearly a popular spot. We ordered pretty much all the classics: sandwiches, soy milk, dan bing (Taiwanese egg pancake), and radish cake. My favorite was the radish cake--it was incredibly soft and had a great texture. My husband's favorite was the sandwiches, and my dad couldn't stop talking about the dan bing. Honestly, everyone loved the sandwiches. The only downside is the price. The sandwiches are around $7 each, which feels pretty expensive for their size. Maybe I'm spoiled because we've had these exact breakfast foods in Taiwan, where a sandwich cost around $1 USD. Seeing $7 plus tax and tip definitely made me laugh (and cry a little) . That said, I also understand we're in the Bay Area and there really aren't many places serving authentic Taiwanese breakfast. Even with the higher prices, we've already ordered from here multiple times and will definitely keep coming back. The food hits the spot whenever I'm craving a taste of Taiwan. P.S. I was so excited to eat that I completely forgot to take photos. That's probably the best compliment I can give!

I mean the sandwich place is alright. My mom and I aren't hungry anyways. We were just looking for lighter meals, not something that's going to fill me up the rest of the day. When we arrived, there were many people. We didn't know how to start but as usual, we were asked to go to kiosk and order there. Thankfully, we're able to find a seat. Also, they should work in the interior more because it kinda looks dark and empty. Food is alright honestly. They look like something you can simply make at home especially how expensive the food is. I'd say that drinks are slightly better than the food. Would be better if they add more meat or make the sandwich a bit larger, but of course that they'll have to increase prices there. Maybe there are other foods for me to try. I'll have to come here at least a few more times.

I have had this in my bookmarks for a long time never had a chance to go because the hours don't work for me. Finally I had a day off in the weekday so I got to go! This is in Auto mall, I always wonder what it is because it was always close when I was in the area. Plenty of parking. The inside is pretty big with plenty of seats. It is a sight to see all of the aunties making the sandwiches and other food in their little stations. It also seemed like there was an area for grab and go sandwiches but I am not completely sure. They had a little kiosk to order. I have a confession to make, I am not big on sandwiches. I know, sacrilegious. But these sandwiches are different. I got this combo sando, sausage, egg, ham, tomato lettuce. It sounds simple but I think the combo with the soft fluffy bread is what makes it irresistible. I also got soy milk because it seemed like the right thing to do. It tasted fresh, not super sweet, and a perfect pair to my breakfast sando. If I could, I would love to go again and try other things they have to offer and maybe a gallon of soymilk!

I had heard good things about Cafe Mei, especially as a typical Taiwanese sandwich spot, so I came in with pretty solid expectations. The sandwiches themselves were decent--nothing bad about the taste--but nothing that really stood out either. What really brought the experience down for me was the price. We paid around $30 for three sandwiches, and honestly, it just didn't feel worth it. It's the kind of food that feels like something you could easily make at home for a fraction of the cost. Overall, it's not terrible, but for the price and the hype, I don't see myself coming back. Just didn't feel like good value in my opinion.

located in pac rim , parking can be a bit hard even during lunch on weekdays order on kiosk to the left as you enter person will call out your order when it's ready - sandwiches aren't made to order tho cus they're just premade & sitting there anyways brings back the feeling of breakfast in Taiwan & it's nostalgic I always get the Taiwanese classic sandwich or whatever it's called

Ordered the toasted signature pork sandwich, taro pork sung sandwich and hot soy milk 25% sweet. Enjoyed everything we ordered. It's a small cafe nothing fancy service was quick staff was friendly. They have free WiFi. There's one kiosk to self order to the left as soon you walk in and one in front of the door where a staff will take your order.

Cute cafe with simple tasty sandwiches. I got the specialty sandwich, which was well executed, and got hot soy milk on the side. I ordered from a kiosk next to the entrance inside.

My main problem with cafe mei is that I can't justify spending money on food this small and simple. To add on, the seating area feels simple and cheap, not somewhere I would want to stay for long. Their food isn't bad. The area isn't bad. But that's all that I can say. I'd almost rather make these types of sandwiches at home.

Came here around 930am on a Saturday the line moved fast. Loved the food! You essentially order and seat yourself. I was surprised by how many people there were that moved in and out for such a small cafe. Here's what I got(: Toasted signature pork sandwich: 10/10 this was so tasty. I loved the thinly sliced onion Pork Sung Crepe: 9/10 good texture and came with a nice dipping sauce that was garlicky and sweet Soy milk black tea: 10/10 I got this at 25% sweet and they really mean it! lol I'd probably get it at 50% next time

super simple, casual taiwanese breakfast food like sandwiches + crepes. honestly only hits if i'm specifically craving it. otherwise feels kinda pricey for what you get, nothing too special but gets the job done when the craving kicks in.

Omg can there be another Cafe Mei closer to me! Insert sad emoji here. Ever since I tried a Taro + Pork Floss sandwich at a boba place that is no closer, I have been on a hunt. Thank you Yelp for letting me find this spot, because I keep coming back for more! This Taiwanese cafe is located in a plaza full of other shops and restaurants so there are definitely a lot of choices, but if you're looking for something light and convenient, definitely check out Cafe Mei. They have plenty of seating inside and parking isn't too bad. However, do they get really busy so I suggest you place an online order in case you don't have the time to wait. Their Taro Pork Sung sandwich is everything you expect for the name. The texture and flavors really balance each other out; especially being in between soft bread. I love the light sweet, starchy taste from the Taro and the crunchy, flavorful pork floss together. It's a flavor combination that definitely gets my taste buds dancing! I also tried their Corn Chowder soup and that was delicious. It's comforting and a perfect soup for those upcoming cold days. They also offer drinks and other sandwiches and savory crepes, but if there is one thing I highly recommend, it is their Taro Pork Sung Sandwich!!!

Stopped by here for food after being in Fremont for some tasks. I was craving Taiwanese breakfast and loved how conveniently located this place is! I got the toasted signature pork sandwich, corn & tuna & bacon crepe, and an iced soy milk. I loved all the layers and the sauce of the signature sandwich. Every mouthful was a delight! I think the flavors are a perfect combination and are sandwiched wonderfully between the soft white bread! I sometimes struggle with eating a full sandwich, but I ate every bite of this one because it was so good I couldn't stop until I was all out. I ate the crepe the next day so it wasn't as fresh, and I didn't like it as much (I think tuna is not my favorite in general). I had the soy milk along with the sandwich, and wowwwww. Not too sweet, just the right amount of cold, and rich soy milk goodness. Trying to make additional plans in the Fremont area so I can come back here for breakfast There's a good amount of seating inside, but you can order to dine in or take out. There's both a kiosk to order at as well as a cashier to take your order.

Classic Taiwanese breakfast! There aren't many places that serve these in the states, so I'm thankful this place is open. The Egg Crepe with Corn, Tuna, and Bacon is snack sized. It's already cut into slices, so it's easier to eat. Every bite had all the fillings + green onions. Never had this combination of fillings before and it was a fun experience. It was lightly salted that paired well with the stronger flavors in the dipping sauce, which was garlicky, sweet, and tangy. Toasted Signature Pork Sandwich - 3 layers of fillings between 4 slices of bread. It had pork, ham, egg, cucumber, tomato, onion, and mayo. The meats are savory and juicy, especially the pork patty. The veggies are so fresh and the mayo brings everything together. The bread is well toasted, not soggy at all, and held all the fillings firmly. All crusts are cut off and the entire sandwich is cut in half for easier eating too - much appreciated. The breakfast items were not too heavy, but still filling. The Black Pepper Noodle with Egg is teppan style, which reminds me of the night markets with hot sizzling metal plates. It has minced pork, mushrooms, caramelized onions, garlic, and black pepper sauce. The mouth-watering sauce is so savory and fragrant. Lots of black pepper, can really taste and see it. I love how saucy this dish is and the noodles really soaked up the flavor well. Definitely get the extra fried egg on top, it's part of the classic experience. HUGE portion size, ended up splitting it into 3 meals (no complaints here!). Iced Milk Tea. I got the larger size 20oz/700cc (smaller size is 16oz/500cc). You can also make additional customizations for the sugar and ice levels. Mines was 50% sugar, no ice. Perfect amount of sweetness to me where you can still taste the tea more. It had good strength, not watered down. Super refreshing after a hot meal. You also get a $0.50 discount on the drink with a meal order. Great menu selections, website was easy to navigate. Convenient to place an order online and pickup. Fast service, everything was ready when we arrived. Takeout containers have cute stickers. They have cozy and trendy vibes with authentic flavors. Really makes me miss the tastes of Taiwan!

If you want to eat at a place that has good quality and a big enough portion to either share or take home for leftovers then this is the place to go. There were some notable things that we stumbled across in our dining experience. I had noticed that one of the utensils wasn't washed properly so there was a dried up piece of vegetable or something stuck on it. Also I requested my burger to be cooked medium but when I received my order, it was more so well done with no pink in the middle. One of the two pork chop was cooked great, while the other was a little dry and chewy. Regardless, these were things that didn't warrant calling over a server. The thing that mainly put a stain for our restaurant outing at Skillet'z was the service. Upon walking in we were not greeted with a friendly welcoming and when seated they quickly walked away. The lady who took our order did not even look like she wanted to be there, granted I understand that nobody really enjoys having to go to work but if you need to interact with customers, maybe this isn't the occupation for you. While we were eating there was not a single time that anyone came up to us to ask us how we were doing, if we needed anything, or how the food was. There was a moment where it was someone's birthday at another table and I don't think I've ever heard a more unenthusiastic and monotone announcement for a birthday and a lame excuse for a birthday song. They're not going to bother with dropping off a check/bill for the meal so you need to go up to the counter to pay for the food. Once you step up to the counter keep in mind that more than likely you will encounter a rude interaction and a feeling that you were inconveniencing them. Overall I'll more than likely eat from here again, primarily for the food. But maybe next time we'll consider just taking out to go.
