I wanted to love this restaurant, I truly did. First things first, the vibe is very cute. I like the urban hella Bay meets small historic town theme of it. Unfortunately, I was seated towards the back, on the side with the restrooms and all I could smell was the plumbing; it was nasty. I know it's an old building, I've been into places where they get that kind of musty smell, this permeated the whole meal. Occasionally, a cheap candle burning to the left of me (probably to mask the smell) would waft over, and that was almost as gross as the plumbing scent. The server was very friendly once she greeted me, and I really liked her, with one suggestion: she needs to learn not to lean her bottom on the tables while taking orders from other patrons. I was seated at the table. My breakfast arrived. I looked to my right and she's got her cheeks on my table. I questioned whether it was just the spacing, or maybe her hoodie, but she straightened up and then sat them back again. Enough about the ambience. The food: I ordered the skilletz special with French toast, eggs over medium, bacon, and country potatoes - I asked for Extra crispy. The food arrived quickly, maybe too quickly. It looked beautiful, but went south quickly from there. The moment I popped into the yolk it was completely overrun by wet egg white, which makes me nauseous. I hate slimy whites, hence the request for over-medium. I ate maybe 3 bites around the edge and tried to get to some yolk but I was gonna be sick with the river of whites. The bacon was good and crispy. My country potatoes tasted like they'd been scooped out of a bin that had been sitting and steaming for a long while. There was zero crisp to a single bite of it. They had not even warmed them up again. Unfortunately, same goes for the French toast. I can live with the sandwich bread French toast if it has some moisture and flavor. I know some restaurants use plain white bread, but it was cold and dry - not like cooled down because it sat there for a minute; remember, the food came out quickly. If it had been freshly made, it should've been piping hot, but it wasn't even lukewarm - the whipped butter didn't even melt a little (see the pic). In fact, parts of it tasted cold like they make the French toast and potatoes in bulk in the morning and then keep them in a bin and throw some onto a grill to warm up but they didn't warm mine up. The hottest thing out of all of my food was the syrup. I had to douse the toast in syrup to try to warm it up a little bit. Again, maybe 3 bites and done. All in all, I'm sad. It was a real disappointment. The tab was $27+6 for tip.... I expect freshly prepared food at that price. It does look to do good business. read more

It doesn't hurt to smile! Firstly, I'm happy to say that the food and portions are amazing over here. If you want to eat at a place that has good quality and a big enough portion to either share or take home for leftovers then this is the place to go. There were some notable things that we stumbled across in our dining experience. I had noticed that one of the utensils wasn't washed properly so there was a dried up piece of vegetable or something stuck on it. Also I requested my burger to be cooked medium but when I received my order, it was more so well done with no pink in the middle. One of the two pork chop was cooked great, while the other was a little dry and chewy. Regardless, these were things that didn't warrant calling over a server. The thing that mainly put a stain for our restaurant outing at Skillet'z was the service. Upon walking in we were not greeted with a friendly welcoming and when seated they quickly walked away. The lady who took our order did not even look like she wanted to be there, granted I understand that nobody really enjoys having to go to work but if you need to interact with customers, maybe this isn't the occupation for you. While we were eating there was not a single time that anyone came up to us to ask us how we were doing, if we needed anything, or how the food was. There was a moment where it was someone's birthday at another table and I don't think I've ever heard a more unenthusiastic and monotone announcement for a birthday and a lame excuse for a birthday song. They're not going to bother with dropping off a check/bill for the meal so you need to go up to the counter to pay for the food. Once you step up to the counter keep in mind that more than likely you will encounter a rude interaction and a feeling that you were inconveniencing them. Overall I'll more than likely eat from here again, primarily for the food. But maybe next time we'll consider just taking out to go. read more

Came here because my baby said he seen this place online and said we must try it! So on a Saturday morning we made our way here, our lil morning date! Haven't been to Skillet'z in a few years. Went with a friend after a funeral service and I will say their portions are huge. So much I had to take more then half of it home. Can't eat like I use to. The food was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. They had this giant tv in the front where we were sitting. The vibe feels like a tourist spot where if you were on a roadtrip swinging through and want to leave something there to be remembered by. Love the small trinkets and paper trail they have in the table that we sat at. I kept looking at it because it basically took up the entire wall. I really hate to leave a less then positive review for a small business, but I was genuinely not too happy with our experience. I had brunch with my girlfriends here a few months ago. Being a busy Sunday, we did have to wait about 20 minutes (for our party of 5) which was fine. They did allow one of us to put down our name, but we all had to arrive to be seated. Parking was easy and plentiful in the nearby lot. We are seated at a 4 top which is completely workable however, a bigger table opens up and we asked to move to that table and our request was denied. Then, to add insult to injury, a party of 3 are seated at the larger table! Even though, the food was delicious, and the portions were super generous, we were crowded and uncomfortable. Our server was missing most of the time and our requests for coffee refills were ignored. My girlfriends and I did have an enjoyable meal because we hadn't seen each other in a while and had fun catching up. Aside from the good company, our experience was far from ideal. Came here with three other friends on the weekend around 11 AM and it was very busy, but the system they have is so efficient that it didn't even feel like a long wait. As soon as I walked in, I loved the vibe. The tables are see-through and filled with little momentos, which was really fun to look through while sitting there. There's also a lot of art on the walls, making the whole place feel very lively. One small touch that stood out to me was a wall dedicated to loved ones and pets -- it was really touching and added such a positive feel to the space. The restaurant is a good medium size, with a few small tables outside if you want to sit out there. There's also a parking lot off to the side with plenty of spaces for the strip, so parking wasn't an issue. The food was very good -- tasty and flavorful. The cafe is located in Niles Town, this area have its own old historical vibe, lowkey felt like I was time traveled to old Hollywood. They have us fill in our names and times we come here and then seated us based on the party. Luckily for me since I'm the only one dining here, I was the first one to be called in. They make us order before we get seated depending on the party size. I heard that they have a patio section, but unsure where it is because I've never seen it. I heard that we have to walk around the restaurant and it's all the way at the back. The restaurant is small and makes me wonder how can they fit a lot of people inside. The corned beef is different compared to other breakfast restaurants. It's mushier and they served us salsa, but that's probably for the potatoes. For the hot coffee, they gave me a large cup. Usually, restaurants serve us small ones. I made my promise to come back here but it's been almost two years now. I'll try to come here a little more often. read more

Since we had already placed our orders while waiting outside, we didn't have to wait too long until our food arrived once we were seated. I ordered the Decoto Loaded Hash Browns with a side of wheat toast. The portions were huge but I was surprisingly able to finish the majority of it. The loaded hash browns came with sauteed veggies, sliced avocado, a spicy pepper and two eggs cooked to your preference. The side of salsa paired well with the dish and I liked how the toast was already buttered. My bf ordered Charlie's burrito with chorizo. It looked like a hefty and filling burrito. I took a bite of it and wished there was more chorizo than potato in the burrito. It also came with a side of sliced jalapenos and salsa. We also shared their drink of the day which was an oreo matcha. It was basically a shake and really good! Once you're done, take your receipt to the counter and pay for your meal. The hostess was incredibly friendly and patient with our group, even though I was running a little late, she didn't seem bothered at all.
