It didn't take long for us to make our second visit. I see why this place is busy and has great reviews! We ordered two haystack burgers, one Billy Roy burger, one kids menu chicken strips, one kids menu sliders, full size fries, and fill size fried zucchini. All the food was great and kids loved there's as well. I love that they have sauces out in ramekins already ready to grab and go. This is now my go to spot for a burger in Fremont! After dinner, we went to dessert side and ordered two kookie dough biscoff milkshakes, matcha and Oreo milkshake, caramel apple and walnut cheesecake, and scoop of strawberry ice cream. I found the place a little pricey (you'll notice I complain about that a lot ), but overall a great experience. The food tasted really good with the exception of the shake which was disappointing. I didn't have any adult beverages but I do like that they have a full bar. I was most impressed by the linguica baked beans. Those were delicious! The burger was good too. It's counter order and then they bring it to your table. It wasn't too busy so that went smoothly. Service was VERY FRIENDLY as a whole even laughing with us as they took our empty trays. AMAZING RESTAURANT. Gotta be one of my Fremont favs and I'm surprised that I've never visited until now despite visiting this town for several years. Restaurant has lots of personality and the staff are super friendly, welcoming, and you can tell that this is a community staple because there was a large retirement party for teacher there, regulars at the bar had their usual go-to's and were chatting each other up and the staff were asking how client's friends and family were, so you know that it's a well loved place and the workers enjoy the environment too. There's indoor seating, a sort of semi outside window covered patio seating, bar seating, and there's a dessert bar to the side too where you can get various candies, shakes, and ice cream. They have board games and GIANT GUESS WHO which I've never seen before. Then I saw that they have an award on Yelp for being #28 top family restaurants in the US. Awesome! It's easy to see why as well. Neat decor everywhere and fun theming. The walk up "drive thru" window for orders is pretty cool too. They have Lunch and Happy Hour menus with seasonal and limited specials too. For our later lunch, we got the: 1) Grilled Cheese Smashburger with bacon and thousand island sauce: -Came with a side of their fries which tasted like they were fried with canola oil ala the same style as In-N-Out. Flavorful with a slight crisp. Addictingly good. -Burger was sizeable and easily shareable. Delicious and the grilled buttery bun with the umami taste of the meat, the tangy thousand island sauce, super good. 2) Deep Fried Cheese Ravioli: -Comes with a hearty helping of marinara sauce. -Nice mix of crispiness of the ravioli exterior that's a bit salty with the creamy mozzarella cheese in the middle, great for a shorter cheese pull that went great with the marinara sauce with the Italian spices mixed in. I came here with a large party to celebrate a graduation. The spacious restaurant was packed with families and kids' sports teams. There was a long line to place an order with the cashier but after that, service was quick. Portions are massive, especially the salads. We ended up bringing a lot of food home. My full order of fries were on the not as crispy side. My friend's half order fries were crispy. A little inconsistent there. Finally got around to trying this spot and overall had a really nice experience. The setup is super clean and modern, and the service was great from start to finish. I also ended up ordering a michelada which I really enjoyed! Food-wise, the burger was good (honestly hard to go wrong there), but it didn't totally wow me. The chipotle chicken sandwich, though, was really enjoyable and had great flavor. Only small suggestion would be for the garlic fries- using fresh garlic instead of garlic seasoning would take them to the next level. The bar has its own food menu with completely different items while the dessert area also has its own menu with milkshakes and desserts. We ordered the Diablo burger, half order of Zucchini Fries, full order of Onion Rings, and the Chipotle Pesto sandwich. The portions were actually pretty big for the price so I think it was well worth the money as we had leftovers. Hands down the best burger in Fremont. 5 for the Haystack and 4 1/2 for the Mac n' Cheese, only because it needed just a tiny bit more salt. The prices are a bit much - $16 for the burger and $5 for the mac - but it's not overpriced considering the amount of food you get. He told her that I already bought one, and he asked if he should remove it from our check, but she said "No, just keep it." I am bit annoyed at that if she was going to give Meatball a puppy patty for free then she could have deleted it off my check. It's not cheap. Their puppy patty is $8. Made a pit stop at Billy Roy's this week and ordered the CattleSmash -- smash-style burger with grilled onions, American cheese, and chipotle mayo -- and honestly? It delivered. That thing is salty, juicy, crispy at the edges, just messy enough to feel indulgent, and completely worth the $15. The chipotle mayo gives it just the right amount of flavor for sure. I got a half size of garlic fries. Decent. Not life changing (coulda used some chipotle mayo to dip them in), but still tasty. I went with the drink special Flight of Slushies: it was everything I needed--boozy, tasty, absolutely genius & perfect for the summer. My favorites were the Jamaican Watermelon and the Swirl -- the latter tastes like sunshine in cocktail form and is allegedly a combo of the watermelon and the mango, but without the dreaded tamarindo. LOCATION: not far the 880 and 84, Billy Roy is easy to find and also has a large parking lot space so you won't really have a problem finding it not sure about weekends. SERVICE: Friendly when we first arrived in and they were helpful with choosing the popular dishes as it was our first time. Food came in less than 15 mins and were accommodating! Classic burger place feel with sports and a vintage dessert shop with candy and pastries. Nice and bright with plenty of seating inside and outside! Outside have fans and they have baby seats. FOOD: probably one of the biggest burgers I've ever had for the price. The food doesn't come with a side so it's additional cost, 4 burgers with sides and 2 milkshakes will be around $100. Burger is MASSIVE!! Sides are HUGE! Milkshakes come in the classic glass cup and was very very good, fried zucchini was amazing. The haystack lunch special was nice 3 patties and generous toppings. The lunch special is nice because it comes with the side. Highly recommend Billy Roy's as it's one of the best burger and American food places in the Fremont Newark area! Came to Billy Roy's after an eye doctor appointment in Fremont and upon walking in was a little confused as we didn't realize the covered outdoor dining area is also theirs and whether to order at the counter or had tableside service. Counter service it was but with dilated eyes, was a little challenging to read the menu. I went for their namesake, the Billy Roy burger while hubby went for the Haystack and we shared the zucchini fries. The Billy Roy at $14 does seem steep for a cheeseburger with Thousand Island especially since I can get that from Firestone for less than half the cost. However, if you're into Angus beef, it may be worth it for you. The Haystack for $1 more is tall and may be hard to get your mouth around it, but I don't believe it's due to a larger patty, but the additional bacon and onion ring. I love that they offer zucchini fries as I couldn't get enough of those. It's not overly battered, flavorful on its own but also fun to dip in the different sauces you can get from their condiments bar. They have a huge variety of sauces to choose from prepacked in solo cups including something like a marshmallow fluff. We discovered a dessert area in the back and ended up getting a creme brulee to try. The service is great vs. other counter service spots as they come around to check on you vs. just dropping off your food but for the price, is a nice treat, not a frequent meal. read more
