Chicken drips been one of my go tos when it comes to Halal chicken. The inside of the building is stunning and well lit, they also have really nice outside seating with nice lights at night time. Not to mention the staff is nothing but kind, friendly, helpful and amazing. Three staff members that were very notable were G, Blanca, and Jackson. Blanca always has a smile on her face and always makes the visits enjoyable. She always makes sure my friends and I have everything before we leave and one thing that's very notable is the fact that she doesn't treat anyone differently. She gives that same courtesy to every customer and that's rare in food service. Jackson is really chill and helpful, he's very professional but also has a side to him that makes him feel like a homeboy. He's always been kind and respectful to everyone, and always has patience with everyone. Lastly, I remember meeting G since the establishment opened, from day one he's been nothing but nice and kind and honestly had so much patience with me when I didn't know what I wanted. I was there.....Chikin Drip in Union City, CA! Chikin Drip is a SF Bay Area original, with locations in San Jose and Union City. It's menu is pretty simple. They offer combos with Nashville hot sandwiches, tenders, fries, loaded fries, loaded mac, salad bowls, drinks and dessert. I was at Chikin Drip at around 2pm on a Monday. It was near 80*F. I wanted to get there after any lunch rush. You walk in and order at the counter. The friendly young lady took my order, and answered my questions. I ordered the Drip #3 Combo, Mild, $14.99+ Drink $2.99, +tax= $19.91 The food is cooked to order, so I had to wait 5-10 mins. They call your number, and you go up and grab your tray. So no table service. That means you have to bus your tray when you're done. You get pretty good portion size. The Drip #3 Combo had two large tenders on toast, crinkle fries, slaw, secret sauce and pickles. The tenders were juicy and moist. Chikin Drip says they only serve top quality chicken. I could easily cut the tenders with a plastic knife. They were tasty with the dipping sauce. The crinkle fries were hot and fresh. Crispy on the outside, hot and soft on the inside. However, the slaw was not made properly. It was just a scoop of shredded veggies with no dressing at all. Overall, the food was okay. It would of been nice to have an actual salad. The dining room has a very unique and creative look. I'm guessing that's where the word "drip" comes into play. Cool and stylish in form and fashion. Hip hop music plays. A REPLACEMENT FOR KFC AND DAVE'S HOT CHICKEN? This location used to be KFC. Several months ago I was intrigued when I saw a sign that a new chicken place will be opening at this location. I've eaten at Chikin Drip three times. The first time I came here I ordered the Combo #3, which is two tenders. I'm not into spicy food except for two kinds of food - Thai and fried chicken. For the spicy level I like to ease my way, so I ordered one tender mild and one tender medium. My impression is the chicken isn't moist but isn't it dry either. The fries were a disappointment as despite the crinkly appearance they were soggy. The second time I came here I ordered Combo #2, which is one tender and one slider. For the spice level I ordered the tender medium and the slider hot. The hot slider had some kick as I was sweating a little. The third time I came here was Monday night after USA lost to Belgium in the Round of 16. I came from San Pedro Market Square in San Jose for the World Cup watch party. At the last minute I came to Chikin Drip. I ordered Combo #3, but this time I ordered both tenders extra hot. The cashier also recommended a ranch sauce with a new recipe. He decided to give the ranch sauce on the house. Ranch sauce can sometimes taste tarty, but the ranch sauce at Chikin Drip was smooth. One thing I noticed was the fries this time were crispy. The extra hot was flavorful but not too hot that it wasn't edible. After eating here three times what is my verdict? The meat isn't as moist as I like it. The cashier named Jackson was super friendly and knowledgeable about the food he is selling. Every time we come in, he's always smiling and has the best energy! The first visit we had here, Jackson recommended the loaded Mac & cheese so My husband got the loaded mac n cheese & I got a slider, fries and Cole slaw. My husband said the Mac n cheese was perfectly cheesy, the chicken still crispy and the fries at the bottom was a perfect bed to lay the Mac n cheese on. I got the slider meal, coke with one chicken slider, slaw, fries and the special sauce. The one major critique I have would be that the chicken "patty" is more of an oversized chicken tender and doesn't really fit in the bun, 20% of the sandwich was mostly bread I had to bread off so I would have a mouthful of only bread. I would recommend they switch to a full patty or change the bread they have it. But other than that, the flavor was delicious. The chicken is super crispy, juicy and flavorful! Not as spicy as I thought but very very yummy! The fries come with a special sauce and it compliments the seasonings so well on the fries! Another critique I do have though, is everyone we go in there, it's extremely hot. So if it's an extremely hot day, I would recommend using their outdoor seating. The restaurant itself is a great hangout spot but they need AC for people to really enjoy the inside. Overall, 4/5 stars. If they change the bun or chicken patty & put on the AC, I'd give 5/5 as my experience would be perfect at that point. Not sure how it will handle during lunch hour or busy time. 3.3/5 - Chicken sandwich medium combo 1 - Sadly this was disappointing. Bread was a bit too soft and doughy. The chicken itself was also dry and not breaded enough to be crispy compared to other joints like hotboys or Dave's. Fries were good though crispy and seasoned nicely. The sauce tastes like raising cane sauce in a good way peppery and tangy. 3.5/5 - Loaded Mac and cheese - surprised about fries being in the Mac and cheese. Chikin Drip took over the longtime former tenant, KFC, and spiced up the place with some flare in their flooring and lighting. They simplified the counter/register to optimize online order pick ups and kept their menu simple - chicken sandwich or tenders; just decide how many and if they go with fries. We've passed by this place many times and have frequented the strip mall plenty for the other eateries and shops around here, but it took a special deal to get us through the door. Parking was easy and we were almost thwarted to enter seeing a food truck outside with a different name (Fire Bunz). Given that we made an online order, we figured the pickup would be inside the building. As we stepped foot through the double doors, we were met with neon lights glowing against a flamboyantly painted floor and a nearly barren register/counter with a relatively small monitor against the empty wall listing their menu items. There were about two staff members seen working and they were friendly and quick to help. We decided on getting their double slider with fries combo in addition to a couple of tenders. Each chicken item can be smothered in your choice of heat: No spice, Mild, Medium, Hot, X-tra Hot, and Holy Chick. For kids and the spice sensitive, get no spice. I also tried the medium and it was pretty hot so I can only imagine the level of hurt for anything higher. The chicken sliders are decent in size and come with a soft bun, some coleslaw, and sauce. To mitigate the bread from getting soggy, we opted for the sides to be left off separately, The fries were good although nothing too special about them aside from being consistently crispy. The tenders were served on a slice of white bread and like the sliders, were hefty to consume. The double slider combo was definitely big enough for two to share unless you're starving. The price seemed a bit high but given the size and quantity of the sliders, I'd say in today's economy, it was only just a tad more expensive than what I'd consider fair. Overall, Chikin Drip is a solid choice for chicken sandwiches and tenders but with similar shops opening all around, it's going to be tough to stay relevant and competitive. The food truck is a nice option for businesses or late night snackers while the storefront could use some incentives to drive more foot traffic despite online orders seemingly doing well. Catering could be an option, however, this food is best served fresh and crispy. It's no wonder why their online sales are likely a success as for our online order, our items were packaged well and maintained their crisp through the ride home. We ordered combo #2 - $14.99 for the kids. And combo #4 -$17.99 for husband and I. We also added a loaded Mac for $14.99. Each order comes with fries. We upgraded one of the fry order. It was plentiful for a family of 4. There was no wait time for us. You order in the counter and you pick up your order in the counter as well. The establishment is clean and I like the decor as well. They also have a drive-tru if you don't want to eat inside. It only got 4 stars because we had to send 1 of our fries back due to it not being upgraded to what we ordered. They fixed it right away. I'd say very very similar to Dave's in terms of ambiance, menu, presentation, interior design, etc. Service was really fast and professional. 100% halal menu, which is great for those with dietary restrictions. I ordered the Combl #3, which was the two tenders with fries. Drink is not a part of the combo, which I find odd. I got medium and hot for the tenders. The hot was HOT. I can eat really spicy, and it was tough to enjoy so I would definitely recommend medium or below. This location has opened in Union City, which is the closest so far from my home. I went to the one in San Jose close to the airport and haven't been there for a while. When I arrived, they have its drive thru, but it's closed until next week. Honestly, I support this because it brings less traffic inside the lobby, but even without it, there wasn't gonna be many people until I arrived during peak hours. This is also my first time seeing a drive thru in this kinda restaurant. Perhaps, I should order through that next time I come by. Just like other Nashville-style chicken restaurant I believe, they have like really aesthetic and colorful designs inside the restaurant. All I can say is completely underwhelmed by the food. Liked the size of the tenders but there was way too much dry rub on them to the point At times I was getting bites of seasoning instead of chicken. I ended up taking the breading and too much seasoning off the chicken and eating it that way. Moving onto the fries they were seasoned with the same dry rub that was on the chicken. No salt no nothing just paprika dry rub. The bread that comes with has absurdly no flavor. Only thing I absolutely loved was the sauce. It's finally open! After much anticipation, the food is 3 stars. We ordered the sliders, tenders, and a mac and cheese. The french fries were nice and crispy but with a good mushiness still in the middle. The chicken which was in the sliders and the tenders were okay. They were crisp but a little dry unless you bit in the middle of the tender where it was juicy. But the main thing was that the chicken, without their sauce, slaw and pickles didn't have much flavor to it. As a stand alone, it lacks any flavor despite being battered and seasonings on top. Interestingly the fries had more flavor. The best thing we had was the mac n cheese. When the chicken, fries and mac n cheese were incorporated, it really worked. Combos vary from $15-$19.
