I heard this spot had Korean fried chicken that could rival San Tung, and after one visit, I have to agree. We ordered both the Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken and the Soy Garlic Fried Chicken. The chicken was everything you want it to be--juicy, crispy, flavorful, and incredibly meaty. The crust stayed crunchy under the sauce, and every bite was packed with flavor. Between the two, I slightly preferred the hot & spicy for its sweet heat, but honestly, you can't go wrong with either. The Assorted Pancake was another standout. It came with a house special dipping sauce that elevated every bite. Crispy around the edges, soft in the center, and loaded with flavor, it was one of those dishes that disappeared much faster than expected. For the Kimchi Fried Rice, I appreciated that it was actually fried rice with kimchi rather than the other way around. So many places overload the kimchi and skimp on the rice, but this version had the perfect balance. The rice was well-fried, flavorful, and topped with a runny egg, seaweed, and green onions that brought everything together. We also ordered the Original Tteokbokki, which came loaded with rice cakes, ramen noodles, fish cake, onions, and a boiled egg. I'm usually not a huge tteokbokki fan because some versions lean too heavily into a sweet, tomato-like flavor, but this one was exceptionally well-balanced. The sauce had just the right amount of spice and sweetness without overpowering the dish, making it one of the better versions I've had. The banchan was fresh and a nice complement to the meal. The restaurant itself is tucked into a small plaza in Union City and has a clean, modern aesthetic that feels inviting and comfortable. It's a great spot for a casual lunch, dinner with friends, or satisfying a Korean fried chicken craving. Service was excellent throughout our visit--friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. If you're debating whether the fried chicken here lives up to the hype, it absolutely does. Between the outstanding Korean fried chicken, delicious assorted pancakes, flavorful kimchi fried rice, and surprisingly excellent tteokbokki, this place has easily earned a spot on my list of go-to Korean restaurants in the area. I'll definitely be back. Must-orders: Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken, Soy Garlic Fried Chicken, Assorted Pancake, Original Tteokbokki

Cream Udon ($19.95): too sweet. did not like it.

Decent place for Korean street foods. Staff was attentive and helpful when we needed it. For 5+ people, they will add 20% service charge to the bill. Cream Udon ($19.95): Saw this on ig and came here to try this dish. I would not order it again because it's way too sweet for my taste. Likely due to all the onions. Budae Jjigae ($50.95): Always want to get the army stew because it looks good but then always regret it because it's so easy to make for a fraction of the cost. Mini Crispy Pancakes (complimentary): My favorite item to be honest... K-Retro Pork Cutlet ($19.95): A bit dry because they ran out of the sauce. Our fault for ordering it anyways. Kimchi Fried Rice ($14.95): Pretty good, your standard kimchi fried rice. Soy & Garlic KFC ($32.95 for Large): Not bad. Not enough meat on the bones I think.

Went yesterday to have dinner because I've been seeing a lot of local folks talking about this spot on social media. Finally had a chance to go last night and will definitely be back! Our group ordered the fried pork cutlet, KFC, creamy udon, rose tteokbokki, beef kimbap, shrimp tempura. Everything was amazing. The stand outs for sure were the pork cutlet, KFC and tteokbokki but everything was so delicious! I personally wanted to go just to try their rose tteokbokki and it was the perfect balance of creamy, savory, and spice. I love that it comes with bacon but also sausage and ramen. And everything was cooked to perfection. Our waitress was very engaging and friendly. She helped some of us decide because everything on the menu sounded so good. We also loved that the booths were very roomy so all 6 of us could fit with plenty of space. Will definitely be back soon.

Great Service! Very clean inside and modern! Love the creamy udon and rose topoki! Also the chicken is amazing and they were so nice to split the flavors up! Usually packed so come at good time to avoid lines

3.5 Yelp Stars ** Came here to try the "carbonara udon" that someone posted on their IG reel with a 10/10 rating (knew it was too good to be true!). Since this was one of my toddler's favorite food, we decided to come try this place out. When we arrived, there was plenty of parking in the lot. The host that seated us only brought us to the table and took our order. After that, she was nowhere to be seen. We came for a late afternoon meal around 4:30pm on a Saturday. Only one customer besides us was seated, but the service was so slow. We felt bad since they only had one waiter refilling the banchans and serving the food. After waiting a while for our food, we asked for more radish since my youngest toddler loved it and both toddlers were hungry! We ordered the so-called carbonara udon, which was actually cream udon, rose tteokbokki, and fried chicken (soy garlic and original). Honestly, the food was alright! It did not stick out in my opinion. One of my favorite Korean fried chicken spot was bb.q chicken which had flavorful, juicy meat with a crispy but not oily crust. The chicken here was juicy but not memorable. The original was bland so we ended up wasting the order. The soy garlic was their popular item but it was lacking the garlic and soy taste. Very sweet too! The creamed udon was creamy but was missing the savory kick. My husband and I both agreed that the best rose tteokbokki we had was in Oakland, but theirs was ok too. Prices were similar to everywhere else in the Bay Area ranging close to $20 each. I was quite surprised since it was located in Union City next to Hayward. Thought food prices would be cheaper here than in cities near San Francisco. The place was quiet with some Korean music playing in the background. Overall, this was a decent Korean restaurant in the area, but it could not compare to our favorite Korean restaurants in SF/Oakland or even LA.

We've come here twice now and they have pretty good food. Service is pretty slow, basically one person running the front of the house and then you have a few people cooking but they said they're working on hiring. Not a problem then cuz despite the slowness, the one person running the show was still pretty attentive. They've become pretty popular now so there is always a wait for the restaurant so come early if you can. Soy garlic KFC - delicious lol well fried and very crispy without the chicken losing any of the juiciness. The flavor was great too. You can't go wrong with a classic Jajangmyeon - not my favorite dish. I prob will not order this again. There wasn't much toppings in here except for onion. Literally 3 small chunks of meat ...the rest is onion and noodle. We left most of the onion behind bc they were kinda raw-ish. Rose tteokbokki - yum. Rice cakes perfectly cooked and a good amount of ramen noodles. It's very creamy and good. Overall I would come back again. Food is good if you are down to wait.

It took us a little while to get seated, but we are so glad we waited to eat to here! It looks like there was only one worker waiting on tables and that was the delay. They came and gave us a menu outside to make sure we could order soon as we got in. Our food arrived promptly after we ordered along with sides! Winston was the server and waiter from our experience and was working all the tables. he did a good job with what he was given. Wish he had someone out there helping him! Very nice place inside. Here is what we ordered and our review: Blueberry lemonade: 4/5 a tad bit sweeter than I expected! Mango iced tea: 5/5 Hot &Spicy popcorn chicken: 5/5 large portion and just spicy enough but not too spicy! If you want spicier or less, there were many options. Pancakes: 4.5/5 love that you get an assortments, I wish there was an option to pick and choose which and ones!

This is our favorite jja jjang myun place in the East Bay. We also love their fried chicken. They have basic side dishes. The inside is also super cute with lots of large booths.

Wowow I've ordered from doordash once but finally dined in so everything was super fresh. My friends and I shared 5 items and there was not a single miss. We got two large portions of the fried chicken; one Supream flavor (sweet and creamy) and one soy garlic (savory & a little sweet). The portions were absolutely huge. The chicken was super crispy, really saucy, steaming hot and juicy. I liked the soy garlic flavor because it was more savory but the Supream was good too. We also had the budae jjigae which came with 2 bowls of rice & assorted jjeon. This pot was massive and full of yummy and comforting ingredients. On the lighter side but still hit the spot, and the jjeon were nice and crispy with soft interiors. Lastly, the rose tteokbokki was super creamy and rich. I only wish it had slightly more rose flavor, because it was more so just cream sauce. Our waiter was really nice and attentive! It looks like a family owned spot. They serve up some delicious Korean food with big portions and I'm definitely going to be back. Place itself is clean and spacious.

I had seen on Instagram that Matzip was a new restaurant in the East Bay that was up there as one of the best Korean fried chicken spots and I wanted to find out for myself. During the afternoon when we got there, there was no customers yet, which was a bit concerning, but then again Matzip is located in a little strip mall with all of its blinds closed on a really sunny, hot day, so it might be a less-than-ideal day for people to be out and about. The interior of the restaurant was clean and spacious, and ultimately a few customers came while we were eating so we didn't end up just eating in an empty restaurant. What's good about this place is that you can pick and choose half orders or full orders of fried chicken if you don't want to commit to just one flavor or want to have other things such as tteokboki and soondoobu as well without having a ton of chicken. It was a good price point for a half orders (around $17) and it allowed us to also try their Korean pancakes (which also have a sampler trio where you can try all the flavors). The pancake sampler was actually pretty unique, as we had never seen Korean pancakes served as a mini size - it came with kimchi pancake, potato pancake, and scallion pancake. Because they were small they also had a better crunch than other pancakes we had, but with the trade-off that there wasn't as much filling and was more dough than anything. All the pancakes had a good flavor and I could see how these would be a great appetizer choice for bigger parties to share. The banchan was standard, but solid nonetheless, with the pickled radishes being the best for me. We got the soy garlic chicken to try and they came out incredibly hot and crispy. They actually are among the crispier Korean fried chicken we have had, almost on par with the last time I had BonChon. While the piping hot crispiness was incredible, the flavor did leave a little bit to be desired. The soy garlic was good but I could definitely see it needing a bit more "umph' and if were to come back, I probably would try the Yangnyum chicken to see if their spicy glaze could bring some more flavor to the experience. Overall it is a great KFC to come a try and deserving of being the conversation for one of the better Korean fried chicken joints around.

I was influenced! We came to try the creamy Udon that we saw on Tik Tok. I love the one at Joey Valley Fair, so I was excited to try Matzip's version. It tasted good, albeit the sauce to noodles ratio was off. Too much sauce and not enough noodles. We actually took the remaining sauce home so I could add more udon noodles to it. It also reminded me too much of Alfredo. Their KFC was good. It was comparable to other Korean restaurants. A small order was a generous 7 pieces of chicken. It was pretty busy for a Thursday night but I was impressed that the one server managed the entire restaurant and door dash on his own. If they added another server they could probaby turn over tables faster. All in all good experience. Solid korean restaurant in the Une.

Soy & garlic chicken wings, jajang myeon & banchans
    Sandy Q.

After binge watching this Korean drama, I suddenly had a craving for Korean fried chicken. Since we haven't tried this place yet, I decided to send hubby here to pick up lunch. We ordered large soy & garlic fried chicken wings and jajang myeon. In terms of flavor, the chicken wings had a crispy exterior but it lacked soy sauce and garlic flavor. It tasted more like honey coated fried chicken wings. As for the jajang myeon, the noodles were chewy but a little too sweet for our liking. I did enjoy the banchans which helped balance the sweetness from the noodles.

Egg fried rice with black bean sauce

Went on a random weekday for dinner. Only one server at that time but it was okay, it was not that busy. We told him it was our first time and he happily answered our questions about the menu. Ambiance is simple and cozy. We ordered creamy udon, shrimp toast, egg fried rice, and 2 different types of KFC (sweet & spicy and soy garlic). Their food here runs on the sweeter side such as the creamy udon with meat. Their food egg fried rice was good and it surprisingly came with black bean sauce on the side. Fresh and flavorful! The shrimp toast was the perfect appetizer...a combination of crispy and savory with a side of sweet chili sauce to dip in. The chicken is huge. I got full off of 2 chickens so beware lol! It's pretty heavy on the batter but the flavor and crunch is there. The chicken on the inside was flavorful as well. Not bland at all.

My order came with bean sprouts, broccoli, fish cakes, potatoes, kimchi, eggplant, and tofu. My favorites were the stir fried fish cakes and the lightly sweetened potatoes. *Kimchi Jjigae: the broth carried a pleasantly fermented kimchi flavor. There was also a generous amount of soft tofu incorporated throughout the stew. This leaned more heavily into deeper, aged kimchi notes. *Mul Naengmyun: the chilled broth had a naturally tangy and slightly sweet profile, so the side of mustard felt necessary to sharpen the flavors further. The buckwheat noodles were pleasantly bouncy, though they had clumped together a bit at the bottom. Unfortunately, the toppings were the weakest part, as both the meat and egg were noticeably overcooked. *Corn Cheese: surprisingly mozzarella forward. The cheese was melted well and paired nicely with the bursts of sweetness from the corn. This complemented the hotter savory dishes especially well. Overall, this is a solid takeout option with efficient service and dependable packaging. I would still like to see more depth and refinement in some of the broths, but the foundation is definitely there.

There was only one server inside who was very kind and answered all our questions about the menu. The food itself was so delicious, all the flavors were balanced well and honestly even kind of comforting it was so good. We tried several dishes and honestly it even felt like we had ordered too much because the portion sizes are so big! We tried the Korean fried chicken, the spicy pork belly plate, the bulgogi pancake, the hot stone seafood bibimbaps, and the Soo Ja fries. This place seems perfect for a late night meal and drinks with friends or even larger family get togethers. We can't wait to come back in the future and bring more people to try more of the menu

It was a lot of food even though we were starving at first, we ended up have to eat it 2 times, each time was 3-4 hours apart but still cannot finish everything. My favorite dish was the kimchi fried rice and then the fried chicken, but the rest were also tasty and delicious. My girls love the corn cheese and teokbokki. The soup was much needed after we were drinking for a while and decided to take a quick food break to gain our energy back. Everything was packed nicely, nothing got spilled, but they forgot to give us utensils and napkins. My friend said she ordered 3 orders of half and half fried chicken and ended up receiving 4, lucky us lolol! We will definitely comeback to the restaurant for dine-in next time, I bet the food taste even better when they fresh out of the kitchen but our to-go experience was great and food still tasted amazing.

We had been craving some bbq while in the area that wasn't the standard kbbq. Ever since we tried…read moreChinese style bbq skewers last year, we definitely wanted to try more, Dynasty bbq came up on Yelp and seemed quite reasonable in price and serving size. When you enter and get seated, you will be prompted to go on the url code at the table to pick your items. While I understand that this is the new way for restaurants to serve guests post-covid, the vast menu items you have to scroll through makes me long for physical menus of the past - but that's just my boomer take for the day. There were a bunch of other items like rice and noodle dishes that looked interesting to pair with the meats, but we were only craving bbq so we skipped out on the carbs. We ordered a BUNCH of skewers, from the standard beef, lamb, pork belly to chicken skin and a fried quail. All of the skewers had the same type of dried chili powder spice seasoning mix so unfortunately there wasn't too much of a diversity in flavor profile but on the flip side, it allowed us to focus more on enjoying the meat quality itself (this is where rice or noodles would definitely help cut through the richness). All of the meats were incredibly well-cooked and charred. It is on the drier side, so be aware if you are looking for a juicier, plumper cut of meat that some other restaurants have. Paired with the Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil, they were super delectable. My personal favorites were the pork belly, chicken skin, and beef. We had some leftovers to go and the staff provided us some extra sauce to go so that's a big plus. Great food here and definitely will be back to try more of the other menu items for the full experience.

We always order the cucumber salad here and dip our skewer meat into the sauce. Absolutely delicious! Their decor is fun, too. There are large, ornate wooden tables with candle heated (sterno style) warming plates throughout the whole restaurant. The ceiling is completely covered with hanging pink flowers. And not sure if they still have entertainment on weekend nights, but a few times in the past they had a musician playing a Chinese zither. If you like skewers, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Final Thoughts: 4.50/5…read more It's not often that I'm in the Fremont area, but I was today, so I decided to take advantage of that and go out for a dinner with my friend after work. After some filtering and choosing, we decided on Korean food. Truly always my go-to choice. The food here really did not disappoint and hit the spot after a long day. Overall, will be a 5 star from me. Food: Spicy Braised Beef Short Rib + Cheese and Rice Cakes: 4.5/5 This was their beef short rib with onion and potato. We always get it with the rice cake and cheese on top because those are truly a must for this dish. The braised beef short ribs are super tender and you could cut though it with a spoon. Their meats are nicely marinated into the sauce and super tender. The sauce is really the star of this dish and they seasoned it really well. There's some kick to it, sweet, salty, and umami. I would eat this sauce alone with rice or noodles if I had the choice. The rice cakes are a little too soft for me and I would have preferred for it to have more of a bite. Again, not really complaining because the sauce made up for it. For the cheese, it's mostly just piled on top of the dish. They're not like other places where they torch the cheese to melt it for us. We just mixed it into the sauce and it melted all the way through for that cheese pull. There's no smokiness, but not a big concern for me. It melted well into the sauce and made it taste amazing though. Fried Chicken (8 Pieces) - Soy Garlic + Hot and Sweet Sauce: 4.3/5 This was more of our side dish/appetizer dish. The sauce is a little too salty for my taste, but honestly, I wasn't really complaining. Something I do like is the consistency of it. It's like this sticky sauce that coats the crispy coating of the chicken well. This dipped into the spicy braised short rib sauce was such an amazing combination too. My preference was the soy garlic. The flavor is just so classic. Hot and sweet is good too. There is a good kick to it and a nice balance of flavors overall. When the chicken came out, it was piping hot. Very juicy and I could feel that when I tried to take a bite out of it. Crispy on the outside and nicely cooked all the way through. Banchan: Good variety They provide kelp noodle salad, kimchi, edamame, mashed tofu, Korean yellow pickled radish, and fish cakes. I actually liked all of these expect for the kimchi. I have a specific preference for kimchi, so definitely just a preference in taste kind of a thing. Lovely textures for all of them. The tofu confused us initially, but it's very good protein for me and I'm not complaining about my foods being mechanically altered. --------- Quality: Made to order Their meats seem to be of optimal quality. That or the cut is just really good and they've been braising it for hours now. Super tender and will just come off the bones. The meats are cut into pretty large pieces, so I would cut it into about four pieces. This was doable with a spoon, which says a lot. Of note, we could hear the fryer sound in the back. Crossing fingers that was to freshy fry our chicken. Items also came out piping hot, which is just how I like it. The short ribs was inside of a stone pot and it was just boiling and bubbling away. Always a plus to see. Price: Typical Bay Area Prices The price ranges will depend on what you get. For the two items that we got today, it was around $60. Seems fair for the portion sizes provided. We also had leftovers to bring home. Again, the prices will range from about $15 to $25. Typical Bay Area prices. Service: Fairly Fast My friend and I were actually the only two people there. Honestly, I'm not complaining for us. I'm actually not sure why they're not more popular because their food was made really well for us. Side note, but if I had it my way, I would probably inhale the remainder that we took home with us. Their food was made to order because we did hear the food being cooked. They did come out with the food fairly quickly. Service was alright and they were quite nice about everything. Ambiance: Late Night Eats Vibes This place really gives me the late night eat vibes. They do sell the items that I see in the Korean dramas where they would go out for a drink and some food. They do have nice options for dinner though. Of note, they do stay open quite late, which I am totally here for. Interior is spacious and their music choice is straight from my playlist, which I really like. Location/Parking: Long Plaza This place is a little farther for me, but I still like exploring around as some food places are worth driving a little farther for. This place is on Cedar Blvd and its quite a long plaza. There's like multiple connections in this plaza along with their entrances. They do have some other shops and restaurants here too. Parking didn't seem to be an issue for me at all. They seem to have enough spaces around for this scale of an area.
