UNEXPECTED DELICIOUS ITEMS About two months ago for Sunday dinner with the family my sister suggested this place because it was a Korean restaurant with chicken wings. Sold. The fried chicken wings served came with two different styles of glazes: soy & garlic and sweet & miki. The breading on the fried chicken wings remained crispy. As you can imagine one fried chicken wing was savory while the other was sweet. One item I found pleasant was the cream udon. The sauce is vintage carbonara with egg and bacon. The thick upon noodles matched well with the creamy sauce. After eating the fried chicken wings and cream udon I could have rated Matzip as a 4-star. There are two items that I didn't expect much that exceeded my expectation. I'm not a fan of beef bulgogi because most of the time the beef is dry. However the beef bulgogi at Matzip was moist as the dish had a broth, which made the beef moist and flavorful. This was the first time I enjoyed eating beef bulgogi and it occurred at Matzip. The other dish that surprised me was the bibimpap. I never this type of rice dish. What I admire about Asian cuisines is each cuisine provides their own version of rice dishes. The bibimpap at Matzip provided a lot of vegetables with meat. Sometimes rice dishes can be too heavy with fried meat but the vegetables balance the dish. The bibimpap was similar to eating salad bowl with the vegetables, but better. Because of the beef bulgogi and bibimpap I gave Matzip a 5-star rating. Due to my first experience at Matzip I will come back here again to try new, unexpected Korean dishes I never ate before.
I'm so glad they opened up a Korean restaurant in Union City that serves jjajang myeon because jjajang myeon is one of my favorite Korean dishes We also highly recommend their fries with cheese powder because it was so good I only gave it a 4 out of 5 stars because their service was a bit slow, but at the very least they were friendly
TIME: came here around 6 pm, was pretty busy and luckily there was only 1 open clean table left SERVICE: You just come in and get seated by the host. It took a little bit of time for our order to get taken which was understandable since it was pretty busy. but all was well EXTERIOR: inside a little plaza and there is a good amount of parking but could be bad if it is busy hours INTERIOR: small place for a busy restaurant but it is pretty good for business, wait times could vary since there is little seating FOOD: CORN CHEESE - super good, love corn cheese in general so might be biased JAJANG MYEON - nice flavors, could have used a little bit more seasoning but wasn't too sweet. SUPREAM KFC - super good flavor, not super sweet but sweet enough giving that salty taste a nice finish BIMBIMBAP WITH SPICY PORK AND HOT STONE - super good flavors but could have touched some more sauce or such OVERALL - super solid korean spot, love the street style food
[IN A NUTSHELL] great fried chicken [VERDICT] - NOT APPROVED [RUN-DOWN] Saw the hype on this place through a tiktok video and wanted to try it out. A little disappointed by what we got. It wasn't bad but it was not a wow factor in my opinion. The fried chicken was the best and with the combination with cream udon. Overall I think this place has potential but when your food comes out cold, it is not the best. [SCORE & ORDER] OVERALL: 3/5 Honey & Cheese Korean Fried Chicken $17.95 (4/5) -The fry on the chicken was super good and crunchy. The flavor tasted like honey and cheese which was good. The flavor was good on the chicken but they sort of packed it and it was too overpowering. It almost stuck to the chicken as well so it was a little overpowering if we did not dust it. It also was not hot when it came out which was a disappointment. Cream Udon $19.95 (3.5/5) -Pan tossed Udon in a cream sauce with egg, onion, and bacon -This was a very creamy udon which I loved but again, it came out cold which was a big disappointment. The cheesiness and the bacon gave it the flavor but it was also a bit watery. Bonchon $FREE (2/5) -Lacked flavor and was more sour than normal. The kimchi dishes were not flavored enough and was more wet. The bean sprouts had no sesame oil and tasted more just like boiled. [SERVICE & ATMOSPHERE] (not reflected upon review score): The wait for our food was super long and the service was ok. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food when there only a few people before us. Atmosphere was quiet when we went on a weekday. I was shocked by how long we had to wait as well as our food being cold.
The chicken wings here are fire; the best Korean chicken wings I've had in a while. Better than Vons and Bb.q Chicken IMO. The Rosé Tteokbokki was very creamy and yummy as well. There was only 1 server there who waited the tables, served the food, and bussed all the tables as well. He was quick, service was very fast even for a full house on a random Tuesday night and he was by himself. A big seating area and I enjoyed that there were many booths; it made our table a little more intimate. Will definitely be back to try other dishes and will recommend others to try as well!
Arguably one of the best Korean Fried Chicken I've had in the Bay Area. My party of 5 ordered 2 large wings in the Soy Garlic Flavor and Hot & Spicy Flavor, Fries, and Tteokbokki in their Rose Flavor and honestly it was plenty of food. Everything honestly tasted very delicious and flavorful, we weren't expecting the Hot & Spicy flavor to taste how it did but my party agreed that it was the best flavor and that it was tastier than a lot of other restaurants. I personally think the service was OKAY, after we got seated it did take a little longer than expected for a server to ask for our order as the restaurant didn't seem too busy. Overall the food here was delicious with service being a tad bit slow. Will definitely be back
I was quite excited to check this place out as the reviews were very positive and the IG posts made it even more exciting. I really wanted check this place out, especially for their fried chicken. I must have gone on an "off day" their chicken was unremarkable to me---I have been to other places in the EB and thought the chicken was much better. One particular menu item to note was the jajangmyeon--I thought was extremely disappointing...there was no flavor. I cannot recommend this dish it at all--needless to say, I've had better. While place was clean, the service was slow, despite only a few tables being occupied. For a place with the name of "Matzip" (맛집 in Korean), as delicious house, it was far from it on my visit and would have to give serious reconsideration to return.
I recently discovered Matzip and knew I'd have to check it out. Korean pub eats in little ole Union City? Count me in! They accept online reservations now on Yelp. I didn't find out until the day I'd planned to eat there, on a Friday no less. Wait for 2 on a Friday wasn't so bad. Maybe 20 minutes? The place is on the smaller side but can easily accommodate maybe 50+ customers. They have booths and tables available. Spacious. Order your soju and get those shot glasses clinking or just water like us haha. They'll refill the bottle as needed. The plastic water cups are ~16oz. They also serve complimentary banchan side dishes. Eats: *Corn Cheese *Beef Kimbap *Soy Garlic Wings small size *Seafood Stonepot Bibimbap Their corn cheese is sweet and topped with real bacon bits. Cheesy! I loved the beef kimbap! Haven't had it in a while and this hit the spot. Soy garlic wings were sweeter and larger than I expected, like it had lots of honey. Crispy-licious and flavorful. I want to try more wing flavors from here. Extra $2 for the Stonepot but it's worth it! We got the seafood bibimbap which had chopped shrimp and squid pieces. Meaty sliced shiitake mushrooms were so good plus all the veggies. Crispy rice bottom was excellent. It was on the drier side rather than watery from the veggies so add some gochujang sauce. I'm shocked the Stonepot was still hot even after thirty minutes. I guess that's stoneware for ya =) Parking is actually plentiful since the other businesses are closed by dinner time except Domino's next door. Wait staff is chill and they'll come by asking if you need anything at all. Great to have this hang out spot good for family meals, friend meet ups, or even dates. A couple that dined in was celebrating their 21st anniversary so that was cool. Check it out!
Tried it because of the Instagram posts! I fall for those all the time... but hey the workers were nice and helpful with accommodations and food was good so nothing to complain. I don't live in the area so I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back. Food: - soy garlic fried chicken: 5/5 they tell you it's hot and it's actually really hot LOL it stays hot too - jjam ppong: 4/5 a little too much onions for me - rose tteobokki: 4/5 heavy but yummy we had to ask for the bacon to not b included for my friend
IG brought us here! We came to celebrate our friend's birthday who wanted Korean food and this did not disappoint. There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is spacious and clean. Here is what we ordered for our party of 5: Kimbap classic $10.95 (5/5) This was a solid choice for an appetizer and had a great filling of meat and veggies K-Retro Pork Cutlet $19.95 (4/5) This was huge and the pork cutlets were thick and juicy, comes with white rice, corn, salad and a dipping sauce Cream Udon $19.95 (5/5) This was unbelievably creamy and slurpable. The noodles were mixed with beef which is slightly sweet (add $5) onion, bacon sliced, and egg. This was my fav there Tteok Bok EE $17.95 (4/5) We got the original and it was spicy like really spicy. On the menu you see the 2-spice icon next to it. But it was a good. I could only eat a little bit at a time. It comes with ramen, fish cakes, and rice cakes Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) $29.95 (5/5) And duh we had to try KFC at a Korean spot. We got a 1/2 Soy Garlic and 1/2 Honey & Cheese. I really enjoyed the Honey and Cheese. The inside is slightly sweet, and the outside had a crispy crust of powdery cheese. We also got some small plates of complimentary banchan. This all went well with some soju and beer! They also gave us a free cheesecake slice for the birthday girl! We might have ordered too much because the servings are HUGE so we had a lot to go. But because we wanted to try everything this was necessary! Service was great and we will definitely come back for try the other dishes!
I was pleasantly surprised with this place!! Literally every bite was SO flavorful and yummy. The chicken was hot and crispy. I truly recommend the Honey & Cheese (SOOO GOOD) and the classic Soy Garlic as well. The Japchae was one of the best cooked Japchaes I've had with well-chopped veggies. also cannot forget the corn cheese which was fire. went here on a Monday and it was busy but no wait to sit down, though I think we waited 30-45 mins for our food. The waiter was super apologetic though saying that theyve been really busy bc theyre going viral -- rightfully so!!! Would definitely come back.
Wanted to try some Korean food in the area and found this place in a small strip mall next to Domino's Pizza. Inside the restaurant was welcoming and server was attentive, asking how the food was. They have comfortable booths all around as well as tables. We ordered to share, japchae appetizer which was tasty and a humongous portion, bibimbap with chicken, and KFC with soy and garlic. Portions were perfect for sharing and very tasty! We of course also had banchan. Ice water came in a container to share and I asked my sister if she wanted hot tea but she said it didn't matter but our server was very attentive and brought us hot tea anyway. Will come back to try other items on the menu!
I've been wanting to try this place out since my Korean chicken spot in Hayward closed down. I took my goddaughter here for dinner, and I'm glad we arrived right when it opened, because they got busy quickly after 45 minutes. They have a decent amount of seating, but it fills up pretty quickly. We ordered the Rose Tteokbokki, with half original chicken and half soy-garlic. Honestly amazing food. Great place to have some Korean chicken.

I've been here when it was Fish Day but been seeing instagram reels about their Fried Chicken and how it's better than San Tung (IYKYK). I stopped by on a weekday at around 2:00 PM put in a to go order online for the honey cheese wings and the soy wings, and it was ready when I arrived. The worker was super friendly and handed me my food. I can see why people compare the soy wings to san tung, it has that crunchy sticky sweet batter/sauce on it. But that's where it ends, san tung is still a chicken flavored wing and Matzip is a korean fried chicken wing, the flavors are still different but the textures I get. The honey cheese is... different. It's not for me but my hubby didn't mind it. It had more of a dried seasoning on top. The wings were pretty tasty but inflation rates are steep. 7 wings for $18 is quite the price. At almost $3 a wing, it's a decent size but I don't think it's worth $3. I'll be back to try the noodles they are known for the wings will be more of a special occasion circumstances. read more
My friend and I came here on New Years Eve. There's hella parking and the inside was very clean with kpop playing. Feels pretty modern and fresh. We were greeted instantly and sat pretty quick. The server was hella attentive and for being the only one did a good job. We ended up getting Japchae, wings, and seafood soup. Every thing was hella good. Honestly, I don't have any complaints it was good. I think the only con, is the pricing. It's a little high, but definitely worth the pricing. read more

The wings were so plump and juicy!! The sauce was really like a glaze for the soy garlic, I've never had a soy garlic that tasted like this before. It had a hint of cinnamon or something, ít wasn't bad just not familiar to me. The glaze like sauce stuck really well onto the chicken wing. The original spicy was similar in flavor but more gochujang forward. The mini pancakes were also good, the chive was my favorite of the 3, the plain one I could have done without. I will be returning for the honey cheese flavor wings and the rose tteokboki!! read more
I had seen on Instagram that Matzip was a new restaurant in the East Bay that was up there as one of the best Korean fried chicken spots and I wanted to find out for myself. During the afternoon when we got there, there was no customers yet, which was a bit concerning, but then again Matzip is located in a little strip mall with all of its blinds closed on a really sunny, hot day, so it might be a less-than-ideal day for people to be out and about. The interior of the restaurant was clean and spacious, and ultimately a few customers came while we were eating so we didn't end up just eating in an empty restaurant. What's good about this place is that you can pick and choose half orders or full orders of fried chicken if you don't want to commit to just one flavor or want to have other things such as tteokboki and soondoobu as well without having a ton of chicken. It was a good price point for a half orders (around $17) and it allowed us to also try their Korean pancakes (which also have a sampler trio where you can try all the flavors). The pancake sampler was actually pretty unique, as we had never seen Korean pancakes served as a mini size - it came with kimchi pancake, potato pancake, and scallion pancake. Because they were small they also had a better crunch than other pancakes we had, but with the trade-off that there wasn't as much filling and was more dough than anything. All the pancakes had a good flavor and I could see how these would be a great appetizer choice for bigger parties to share. The banchan was standard, but solid nonetheless, with the pickled radishes being the best for me. We got the soy garlic chicken to try and they came out incredibly hot and crispy. They actually are among the crispier Korean fried chicken we have had, almost on par with the last time I had BonChon. While the piping hot crispiness was incredible, the flavor did leave a little bit to be desired. The soy garlic was good but I could definitely see it needing a bit more "umph' and if were to come back, I probably would try the Yangnyum chicken to see if their spicy glaze could bring some more flavor to the experience. Overall it is a great KFC to come a try and deserving of being the conversation for one of the better Korean fried chicken joints around. read more
I was influenced! We came to try the creamy Udon that we saw on Tik Tok. I love the one at Joey Valley Fair, so I was excited to try Matzip's version. It tasted good, albeit the sauce to noodles ratio was off. Too much sauce and not enough noodles. We actually took the remaining sauce home so I could add more udon noodles to it. It also reminded me too much of Alfredo. Their KFC was good. It was comparable to other Korean restaurants. A small order was a generous 7 pieces of chicken. It was pretty busy for a Thursday night but I was impressed that the one server managed the entire restaurant and door dash on his own. This place has been on my list for a minute since I'm usually curious about Korean fried chicken places. 7 piece was about $18, pretty big pieces super juicy inside and really good flavor! It has a very sticky candy-like coating to the wings rather than saucy but definitely not dry. The rose tteok-bokki was our favorite. Not spicy at all, tasty creamy flavor served with sausages onions and ramen! Perfect for my friend who can't do spicy! Mandy was also fresh and crispy as well. Great service, always checked in on, and complimentary banchan! Inside with a good amount of guests, K-pop music videos playing super casual but comforting for a fun catch up and a good meal with friends. Only thing is be careful of ordering your wings to go. I would ask without the parchment paper since it stuck to the wings and ended up making it difficult to peel it off. read more
My new go to spot for Korean food! It's a cozy place with booths and tables. Lots of parking as well. I specifically came for the rose tteokbokki and it was absolutely creamy! It's a mix of rice cakes, ramen, bacon pieces, and hardboiled egg. It reminded me of the one I had while in Korea. The cheese kimbap was also really yummy. Everything was made fresh and the service was quick. The chicken wings were cooked to crispy goodness. I left so full and still had leftovers too. I'll definitely be back! read more
Went on a Friday night right when they opened. The restaurant filled up within the first 30-45 minutes of opening. Ordered the jampong (seafood spicy noodle soup) and original chicken wings with sauce on the side. It took a long time for the food to come out and they didn't come out together. Jampong came out first (after about 30 minutes) and then we waited an additional period of time for the chicken to come out. Jampong had a smokey broth flavor to it and the noodles were chewy. Good jampong considering there are no other places nearby that serve them. Chicken was odd... the batter tasted like it was overcooked or sat in oil for a long time. The batter didn't stick to the chicken so when you took a bite, you only got a bite of batter. It was like the batter was puffed so far away from the chicken. Hard to explain, but it wasn't like what other reviews said about the chicken. The wait time is probably long because of how delayed the food comes out. They have potential since it's hard to find a good Korean place in the Union City/Fremont/Newark area. I would come back for the jampong. read more
Used to come here when it was Fish day. Under new ownership its been converted to a more stylish Korean restaurant. Jjam pong 4/5 pretty decent. My other half ordered it but I don't like spicy food. Plenty of seafood at least. Soy garlic Korean fried chicken 5/5 I really liked this version of fried chicken. Their soy garlic has like a molasses coating which is so delectably sticky and crunchy. I would go back just to get this over and over. Everything was very hot and fresh and the decor is nice. Service is good. Bathrooms clean. Parking is fine. Great local small business! read more
Found out about this from TikTok because of the creamy udon. However we decided to order DoorDash. They didn't have the creamy udon on the menu which is fine. Order arrived warm. The food was delicious. We got the honey cheese chicken. That was delicious. We ordered the kimbap and assorted jeon. All delicious. We will come in for dine in next time. read more

Matzip is known for their black bean noodles, tteokbokki, and Korean fried chicken. There is an online portal to order ahead of time and in our experience, they don't really pick up the phone. As soon as we walk in, we notice that the restaurant is about 20% full but with no waiter/front of house staff in sight. We waited at the cashier for about 10 minutes and didn't see a single soul. As other yelpers mentioned, the service here is really slow so I wouldn't come here in a rush. We opted for takeout since we had our pup with us. It was a late lunch 1pm-ish on a Saturday and our food took 30 minutes to come out. So probably the worst downside here is the service. *The jajamyeon was okay in terms of flavor. I found the sauce to be really bland in taste and quite average. The noodles were firm and chewy but difficult to overlook such an underwhelming sauce missing that essential strong black bean profile. *Rose tteokbokki was average as well. I was expecting more depth in flavor but it was mostly just rich and creamy. It was missing a kick of spice or anything special in flavor. The only protein was sausages which this dish usually comes with fish cake slices at least. The ramen noodles were also on the soggy side which was disappointing. I would not go out of my way for Matzip, if only I was in the area and not on a time crunch. The food was pretty average and nothing stood out to me in terms of quality or authenticity. read more

Nice restaurant with plenty of parking in a small plaza. I came on a Saturday around noon and there was plenty of tables occupied and a few empty tables where patrons left. Very busy surprisingly despite them opening at 11:00am. They had plenty of to-go orders as well. My friends and I ordered the original fried chicken (small 7 piece), jajangmyeon, and jjampong. There was basic banchans which was nice and they refilled it as well. The kimchi and cucumber kimchi were deff delicious. The chicken was amazing and came out piping hot. I loved the batter and the crisp on the chicken was 5/5. The jajangmyeon was delicious, not too sweet and had a good amount of pork in it as well. The jjampong had plenty of seafood but my friend thought the broth was a little bland. Overall, the foods delicious. Price is a little bit on the higher side but thought it was worth it given the convenience of location. Typically I'd have to go to South Bay to get good KFC and jjampong. I will say service was a bit slow because there's only one server and one person in kitchen. I thought they were still nice and attentive despite it being busy. We were in and out in an hour, so still a great experience! read more

we were craving korean food so we decided to try this place. it say's on the sign that they are under new management. we ordered beef bulgogi which tasted authentic and legit. the serving was generous as well. the beef bibimbap was also a winner. veggies were fresh and the rice quality was top notch. the servers we're young and friendly. nice to see young people working hard. the ban chan was good but we've been to other korean restaurant that served more varieties of ban chan. for me personally, i've had better kimchi. the place looks bright and welcoming. will definitely be back to try other stuff. read more
I give this a 3. Service was really slow when we arrived on a Thursday night. There was 1 worker working the front. She was swamped n had no help for like an hour. I noticed there was a lot of frustrating customers. Dine in n dine out customers. Customers were waiting long times for their food. Parking here was easy to find. It's a small little spy and good for smaller parties. The booths can hold 4-6 ppl. Their chicken was perfectly fried and they were ginormous. Flavoring was on point s d really crispy. Their fried rice was really good with the black bean sauce. The ttekbokki was really good but really spicy. Their soup was also good. I was go back if I was in the area but would not drive out of my way to go here. read more
Matzip opened a month ago where Fish Day once was. Interior retrofitted to resemble Korean eateries many times bigger than Matzip. It's next to Domino's. Black sign hard to see when sun is bright. Female K-pop videos on flatscreen in front. Very entertaining. Offerings: Korean fried wings, Tteok-Bok-ki (rice cakes),special menu: bibimbap, fried rice, jjampong, Jajangmyeon, K-hot pot, K-retro pork cutlets. More entrees will be added at end of month. Bites: Jjampong (16.95) medium spicy, ready in 14 min. Glass bottle had cute frogs on bottle: pink for female. Blue for male. -banchan: kimchee, daikon, fish cakes, spicy cucumber. So Fresh! A rarity. -Jjampong wasn't too spicy. Squids. Mussels, shrimps were good sized, fresh, very tasty. Onions, cabbage, carrots, black mushroom slices, sliced mushrooms also very fresh. Added to deep flava of broth. Fresh housemade noodles in da house! 5 stars: absolutely worthy. Quantity: good portions for price. Quality: top grade, fresh ingredients. -got some soup stains on jacket. Worth it. Need to wear different cover shirt in future. Definite repeat read more
Korean restaurant that recently switched owners! We stumbled along this place by chance since we were craving fried chicken. It's a smaller restaurant with booths and tables and there were plenty of people when we came by. Banchan was deliciously flavored, kimchi rich but still with a bite! Not too fermented (for my liking). We tried their jjampong and jjajangmyeon but thought both were just ok! The noodles were a little overcooked. Would probably skip these next time. The tteokboki had a nice level of spice, came with ramen and fish cakes and an egg. Not bad! Our favorite was the soy garlic fried chicken, it's a more sticky glaze but our only issue was some pieces were way more bettered than others... but overall flavor was sweet and salty. Does stick to your teeth a little! Not a bad restaurant at all, will have to try other foods next time around. read more
Went yesterday to have dinner because I've been seeing a lot of local folks talking about this spot on social media. Finally had a chance to go last night and will definitely be back! Our group ordered the fried pork cutlet, KFC, creamy udon, rose tteokbokki, beef kimbap, shrimp tempura. Everything was amazing. The stand outs for sure were the pork cutlet, KFC and tteokbokki but everything was so delicious! I personally wanted to go just to try their rose tteokbokki and it was the perfect balance of creamy, savory, and spice. I love that it comes with bacon but also sausage and ramen. And everything was cooked to perfection. Our waitress was very engaging and friendly. She helped some of us decide because everything on the menu sounded so good. We also loved that the booths were very roomy so all 6 of us could fit with plenty of space. Will definitely be back soon. read more

Amazing food and service! The rose tteokbokki was one of the best I've had! So flavorful and creamy, with the perfect texture. I wish they had fish cakes in it too but with the portion size and taste, I can't really complain! The fried chicken was SO good. If you come here and don't get an order of chicken, you are doing yourself a disservice!! The pictures don't do it justice, the chicken pieces are HUGE. Planning my next visit already read more

I was craving some good Korean food so I went here with my daughter. Saw this place on IG, usually the places I visit when I see on OG are not the best but Iist say this was not too bad. The restaurant looks old from the outside but is it a cute establishment with clean and had modern furnishings inside. The only unfortunate thing was they only had two people running the place that day. Usually they are fully staffed but they handled everything the best they can. For that I think they did a pretty good job. We decided to try a bunch of stuff so I will list it all out: Assorted Jeon: Korean savory mini pancakes with 3 kimchi, 3 potato, 3 seafood pieces - instead of the potato pancakes they had a new one that had a large perilla leaf stuffed with noodles and crispy fried with light batter. This was a nice appetizer and good sizes to share Corn Cheese Sweet corn baked with melted cheese - This was good...at first it tasted different, I think because the cheese was different, but it was so addicting we couldn't stop eating. Fried Seaweed Rolls Crispy fried seaweed rolls filled with glass noodle - this was very interesting, definitely something you can snack on while having a drink. It tasted very good especially with the sauce they provided. Cheese Balls Deep fried crispy outside, cheese inside - this we delish...the balls themselves were a mochi like dough filled with yummy cheese. Eat it while it is hot so you get the amazing gooeyness Menbosha Deep-fried shrimp toast crispy outside & juicy inside - this was so good, the fried toast made it perfect. Definitely a good appetizer to have while drinking. Rose Tteok-Bok-Ki Creamy, mildly spicy pink sauce made with gochujang and cream - this would have been perfect if it had a little more kick. The tteok itself was so good and it had BACON...something different but matched perfectly. Original and soy garlic Korean fried chicken - the original had a little too much batter but still tasted good. The soy garlic was yum. The chicken inside was nice and juicy for both. Jajang Myeon Savory black bean sauce with pork and vegetables - this was absolutely yummy. I would say apart from one other place which is my favorite this is a perfect second best. Overall I think this place is really good. As I said, although they were short staffed, the two that were there were very nice, hard working, and even with the crowd stayed calm and composed. This place surprised me. It's in a little plaza with a parking lot and doesn't look like there's much going on. The restaurant itself is pretty small with an average table size for 4, maybe 6 if they put some tables together. It didn't look too busy but they did come out to tell us that they were a bit short staffed so please be patient, which was totally fine. We ordered a bunch of stuff, and let me tell you, it was all worth the wait which actually wasn't even that long. My only qualm is that the main entree came out before any of the appetizers. For chicken wings, we got soy garlic and honey cheese flavor and we all agree that the honey cheese was the best Korean fried chicken we've had. My cousin doesn't usually do sweet and savory but he actually loved the chicken wings here. It was flavorful and crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The chicken wings and drums were huge pieces. It's not like wingstop tiny pieces with no meat on the bone. The fries were crispy and crunchy but no salt on it. It comes with ketchup and they don't have ranch in the house. It reminds me a lot of McDonald's fries, without the saltiness. Their japchae glass noodles was probably one of the best I've had. It was super flavorful and the noodles were "smooth". We also got their menbosha which is their shrimp toast that is deep fried. It comes with a side of sweet and sour sauce to dip and it was nice and soft on the inside with the shrimp filling but crunchy on the outside with their deep fried toast. I like crunchy bread so this was such a good appetizer to have. Their corn cheese was what I came here for and I was slightly disappointed. The cheese was sweet and the bacon on top added an extra elevated smokiness that I enjoyed and never had before on corn cheese, BUT the corn itself was dry, making it my least favorite dish, unfortunately. I am coming back and while I love to try new things and new flavors when I go back to a restaurant, I will be ordering their honey cheese chicken every time. New legit Korean restaurant in UC! Although I was sad that my beloved Fish Day no longer lives here, I'm happy that they were replaced by Matzip. Jajangmyeon 5/5 - So glossy and so yummy! I would usually have to get my Jajang fix at *popular korean chain known for their Jajang* in Santa Clara. I'm so glad I no longer have to drive far when I crave delicious sweet and savory black bean noodles. Soy & garlic chicken 5/5 - Plump and juicy in the inside, yet crunchy on the outside. One order is good for 2 people only. Pancakes 4/5 - They come in a variety of 3 different flavors - seafood, kimchi and potato. It was nice that you get to try all the flavors. Went here for a late lunch and there was a little bit of a wait, but we were seated within 15-20 minutes. We ordered two iced teas (mango and blueberry lemonade), the assorted pancakes and popcorn chicken (hot & spicy). They also served us some sides. All the food items were delicious! Food came out reasonably fast and service was really good - although I could tell they were a little short staffed. Overall the food was great, service was great and the atmosphere was great. Arrived at the restaurant and got seated within 5 mins. The wait area is small and I recommend waiting more inside the restaurant so they can see you. The Japchae was tasty but I don't think there was enough meat when you add beef for $5. Kimbap also tasted good but it's almost the same price of the Japchae. I visited closer to closing time so they were out of chicken wings. I'll have to go back and try the chicken wings. Overall the food was delicious, portion size was okay and it was sad they ran out of chicken wings but I understand since it was the end of the night. read more

My cousin and I had been seeing this place a lot on our social media feeds. So after our gym session we headed over to Matzip. This business space prior was occupied by Fish Day. When we arrived it was a little busy inside but was able to be seated quickly by our host. The menu was composed of delicious Korean dishes. We didn't want to indulge after a gym session so we decided to share a couple of items to try. We went with the following: - Soy garlic wings - Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) While our was being prepared, we received some banchans. The noodles came out. The noodles were al dente and black bean sauce was very flavorful. The soy garlic chicken came out fresh from the fryer. Juicy and tender meat paired with the soy garlic glaze. The service by the staff was good. The meal we ordered was solid. I can't wait to be back to try other menu offerings. read more

This place deserves all the hype. Because of this, you'll have to wait. When I came in on 5/29 evening, i waited for almost 40 minutes. BUT IT WAS SO WORTH IT. The spot is packed and for a good reason. I came to try the rose tteokbokki and it was soooooo good. Flavor, the creaminess, and the abundance was great. There's a server who legit runs the whole floor. He was taking care of EVERYONE. He acknowledged that it was super busy and a bit of a wait but he made sure he got to everyone. Once he was able to seat everyone, he quickly took all of our food and drink orders and made sure to check in to see how the food was. He gave excellent service. I will say though, he could definitely use more help. I will definitely be returning for the tteokbokki. Service was great and food was delicious. Highly recommend! read more
Generous serving sizes. Tried the Jajang Myeon, Soy Garlic Fried Chicken, Rose Teokbokki and K-Retro Pork Cutlet. JajangMyeon had lots of gravy with onions, pork and zucchini mixed in. Noodles were perfectly chewy, al dente. Gravy was milder than most JajangMyeon I've had; less fermented flavor. Not sweet at all either. Rose Teokbokki was good. It tasted like thin bacon mac cheese sauce flavored with gochujang. It had both rice cakes and ramen noodles. Came with one whole egg. No fish cakes though. The Soy Garlic fried chicken had big chicken drumettes and wings. Coated and fried. Coating was a bit thick for me. Covered with sweet sauce with soy sauce and gochujang flavor. Had sweet and slightly sour flavor. The Pork Cutlet came on a big portion. The cutlet was perfectly fried to golden brown. Coated with what looked like fresh panko. The meat was tender. The katsu sauce had soy sauce as the noticeable flavor with slight sweetness. Came with steamed rice, cabbage coleslaw which was ok, and corn with onions. This dish had a variety of tastes. They had complentary banchan with pickled radish, sweet pickled jicama, kimchee and zucchini. Overall, good quality ingredients. Staff were nice and patient. Came here with my family on a Friday night and service was good. We got served fairly quickly. The food was just ok. We ordered honey&cheese wings, soy garlic wings, budae jigae, jjampong, rose tteokbokki, Jajangmyeon and assorted pancakes. The Jajangmyeon was good, but everything else was on the sweet side which I don't like. There was also a hair on our wings. read more

Anddd we're back! This time, again, I got the 14 pcs soy&garlic fried chicken, japchae, ja jang myeon, and cream tteokbokki. If I remember correctly, the only new thing I tried on the menu was the ja jang myeon. Based on my past review, I commented that the batter for the fried chicken is very thick. Bummed to say that things have not changed, the batter is still really thick. Yes, the thick, flavorful batter is really enjoyable but not the healthiest. Is it just me or the noodles for the japchae is pretty undercooked? I might be wrong on this take; maybe traditionally its supposed to be pretty dense and chewy. The japchae noodles haven't changed at all from my last visit. My personal favorite was the ja jang myeon. First time trying it, and I love it. I love the generous amount of sauce in the dish, and the flavor of the sauce itself is really rich. It didn't feel heavy and I didn't feel too bloated afterwards. The cream tteokbokki this time AND last time did not let me down. The generous amount of tteokbokki, and the yummy sliced sausages; love love love! If I order it next time (I probably will!), I'll remember to ask for extra noodles. ALSO!!! If you're sharing this plate of cream tteokbokki, one serving of noodles is simply not enough. I was sharing a plate with the fam, and the noodles where out as quick as a blink. I think they only put in one packet-size of noodles, if you get my drift. This time, there are more servers, so everything was a lot more speedier. The food came out pretty quickly, ten minutes max. Matzip is a great place to go if you want someplace consistent, quick, and filling. Will be back for more of that tteokbokki!! read more

Service was pretty quick and place is clean. For appetizers, we ordered the beef fried dumpling which was pretty good. Came out hot and crispy with some sauce on the side. Also ordered Egg fried rice, which we did not expect it to have some black bean (?) sauce on top of it. It added some flavor to the rice but I would've preferred it without the sauce.. it felt too overwhelming with the flavor and texture. Lastly we decided to get the hot & spicy fried chicken. It did not taste spicy at all but the flavor was not too bad. I honestly didn't care too much about the fried chicken... not the best I've had. read more
