I have only ever left 5-star reviews because I love supporting small businesses, but after tonight, we will no longer be supporting this spot. We have been loyal regulars here for a long time, coming at least once a week. Honestly, the main reason I kept coming back and always tipped well, even when the staff was sometimes just whatever, is because the guy who owns it is always so nice, friendly, and works incredibly hard. Unfortunately, his wife handled things tonight, and the service was absolutely horrible. We ordered a steak burrito, and let me tell you, the meat was completely inedible. It was just pure gristle in every single bite, to the point where we couldn't even chew it and only ate about a fourth of it. They also forgot to give us salsa with our chips. When we called to let them know about the meat, his wife started chopping up meat on her end, arguing with me, and insisting the food was perfectly fine and fresh. My wife, who is visibly 8 months pregnant, actually walked the burrito back into the restaurant just to show her the gristle. Because the lady said to bring it back show her. Instead of making it right or offering a simple switch for a chicken burrito like my wife had asked, she completely lacked empathy and flat-out said, "I can't remake your burrito." I called back to ask what could be done to fix this, and she started telling me to stop yelling at her. I wasn't yelling at all, my other baby was screaming in the background because my wife left the house to try and get the food fixed. She then hung up the phone on me. Apparently, she told my wife she even consulted her husband before refusing to fix it. It is so unfortunate that a business we supported weekly would treat regulars this way, but they have officially lost customers for life. The owner also said she was going to reply to me on here. If you've been putting this place off, don't. I regret not coming here sooner because their mangonada's are hella bomb. But that's not the only thing they serve, they have a massive menu of 50 different desserts to choose from. Im definitely looking forward to coming back to try the others. Sweet Mex also serves entrees as well and is a full blown meal and dessert establishment. From my observation everyones grabbing the tacos so Ill definitely come back just to try them. As for parking there is plenty of it. The plaza rarely gets full and you just have to walk a bit if it is. I had no idea until this week that the spot had such amazing tacos! I thought it was just a Mexican dessert place and ice cream shop, but then a friend told me there was also a taqueria inside. This is the best al pastor I have had in years and there is a trompo in the back, so you know it's done right The carnitas and carne asada were also flavorful, crispy, and juicy, and I will be back to try out the other meats and guisados. There were also half a dozen agua fresca flavors (I always get pineapple and mix it with cucumber mint or guava/watermelon when I see this many flavors), and the staff was busy slicing fresh fruit and scooping ice cream for the desserts. Very good Mexican food. And they have unbelievable deserts El pastor tacos with the handmade tortillas is my favorite dish.

So happy this spot is on my way home. I've tried their ice cream, horchata float, arroz con leche, champuradro, and esquite. All are 5/5. I've seen plenty of people in here eating from their taqueria menu so I'm sure that's just as good. Reasonably priced too. Lots of menu options. And there's usually always a table or 2 free. The parking lot is shared with the other shops and small but I've always found parking. They always have typical Latino music playing and something on tv like news or sports. No wonder it's gotten good reviews! I've been to this plaza before to eat at other places and just wrote it off as another Mexican place. I was wrong. This place is amazing. First the ambience. It's been awhile since I've visited Mexico, but coming in, I was definitely transported there. I felt like I was in a typical restaurant that you'd see in certain barrios of Mexico City. I was craving a burrito and thought, fine chipotle, and then I found this place and have vowed to avoid chipotle at all costs if I am in Union City or anywhere near it. I got a regular burrito but mojado (wet meaning with read sauce) and it wa awesome. First the meat is piled on and it's flavorful and rich. The rice was delicious and the amount of cheese they put was just right. They also have an agua Fresca station and I ordered the pipino drink. So good, and so authentic. They also have a variety of chamoyadas and I think I saw a man eating a bag of chips where they added melted cheese. Service, self serve but everyone was really kind. Never Fails, always delicious and fresh. They always keep prices so reasonable. Service is always spot on. Place is no nonsense, what you see is what you get. Staff are always so nice a giving you suggestions when you're not familiar with the selection in the menu. Tacos and wet burrito are delicious. Their selections of drinks are spot on. Their La Mechalaguas with Tamarindo place around the rim of the large cups are sooo good! Lastly, their Ferrero-Rocher chocolate ice cream is soo good! So many different snack and dessert options and the food menu isn't too big but they have a good variety. I had tacos with homemade tortillas and I LOVED them tasted like home. I went here bc a friend mentioned they had hand made tortillas. As soon as you come in you see the Mexican snack menu and on the side a small food menu. The snacks look great so I ordered their chicharrón preparado con todo. I also ordered their huarache and hand made tortilla taco. Service was ok nothing special but I did notice the snacks are made separate from the food so I got my taco and huarache first but still had to wait for the other side to make my chicharrón preparado. There was nothing really special about any of it. The flavor was bland and nothing really popped to make me want to come back. Taco: the tortilla was flavorless and the meat dry Huarache: was big but nothing special no seasoning Chicharrón: missing salt or something to help bring the flavors. I don't see myself coming back to try any of it to be honest. If I ever want an over priced esquite I may come back but I really doubt it. read more

Update time but this time to shine a light on their taqueria side which they opened up much later than their Mexican ice cream/fruit shop. Their written board menu is a tad hard to read, I think it needs to go on a larger board. Everything is written on small 2' X 3' board, all jammed in a wall of text. Definitely not geared for English only Americans. Guava Agua Fresca ($4/4*) Pretty refreshing with a decent amount of guava flavor. It is sweet like a lemonade but the tropical twist always draws me. Not pulpy, but little diced bits of guava on the bottom of the cup, which will clog a straw, but makes for a nice fruit dessert after your tacos. Tacos with handmade tortillas ($5ish) They have regular street tacos as well, but when the cashier asked me which tortillas, I gravitated towards elevation, even though they are probably $2 more per. The tortillas are indeed worth an upgrade, a tad larger with a more delicate texture. You actually have to eat these tortillas much quicker, as even a 5 minute wait will get them to get soggy and disintegrate. Good masa flavor with a soft corn cake like texture. Carne Asada (3.5*) Super browned and well done. Most carne asadas are like that, but this was super chopped fine. I prefer bigger chunks as I want to feel the meat in the chew. It is simply seasoned and quite good with their 'orange-ish' salsa though. Barbacoa (4*) Solid in texture and flavor. Basically Mexican pot roast thats been shredded. Super juicy and quite beefy. I'd get this again, even in a burrito or torta. Huarache with added Lengua ($15 + $2/4.5*) Basically a double sized open faced taco. Same hand made tortilla, except this time is shaped in more of an oval versus round. Griddled til brown, then shmeared with a thin black bean puree. It is then topped with meat of choice/or without, then a good dose of nopales/cactus, choice of cheese and onion and cilantro. I chose a soft fresh cheese which was pretty but didn't really offer much flavor, pretty mild. The lengua was perfectly tender and diced and was browned really well in probably lard (I could taste it). I think I prefer it this way over just the boiled version which most places do. And I think this was the biggest portion of lengua I've ever been served in a taqueria. And since this was really good to me, this was quite the bonus. Zero spice in the actual dish, so that same orangish salsa is quite in need here. The good is that salsa is top notch, better than most. A legit taqueria is tucked away in this corner with a facade of an ice cream shop. Definitely gonna frequent this shop more now, as I can get my tacos on for lunch, then take home a scoop or two of tropical ice cream. Awesome neighborhood gem. read more

This has your traditional fare like carne asada, al pastor, pollo asado, chorizo, etc. BUT in addition there's traditional Oaxacan items like huitalcoche, mole, flor de calabaza (squash blossoms) to name a few. I liked their corn tortillas and I'm pretty picky about tortillas. They did not have the meat for the quesabirra or pastor so we had asada on everything - this is where they lost stars because the meat wasn't flavorful; it was actually pretty bland. The portions of food were big, but the flavor was missing. Everything was freshly cooked -made to order. They have a habanero salsa that's pretty good, but their mild salsa (pico de Gallo) tastes like tomato paste. Desserts: We ordered a mangolado, strawberries & cream, mango & coconut respado, and guava respadao. They were all good. The restaurant has a nice vibe, great service, and a great menu but the food was disappointing. I got a vegetarian huarache which had squash and mushrooms and I was quite excited about the options, however the base of the huarache was so salty. We also got a corn in a cup with Cheetos and that was literally cream cheese and corn with no other flavors. I was really hoping for exciting flavors because the place looks great and there is a lot of variety, but was disappointed. This is the real deal!! Easily one of the best Mexican places I've had in Fremont. We got a huge spread, and my biggest tip is don't sleep on the handmade corn tortillas!! Solid spot for tacos and desserts. Their food menu has grown over time which is great, but their tacos are still our fave. Al pastor, asada and carnitas are usually our go-tos.
