Great tasting signature wings! Nice crisp on the outside and the sauce is a flavorful without being too sweet. The owner is super friendly, they took over this spot about a year ago and added new items to the menu. I've been here a few times several years back, and they still have wings but added a few more special ones based on the mom's signature recipes. There's a clean and updated outdoor seating area now, which is a great addition to the space. Will be coming back to try their other items.

Quick Update to Volcano Island, now Mama Seoul! Mama Seoul is 2 years new at the Volcano Island location - signage still visible on the exterior (and Yelp page) but Mama Seoul logo in neon inside. Same takeout format with 2 patio tables to the side of the parking lot. SPOTLIGHT!!! :: MAMA'S SIGNATURE WINGS are seriously addictive with the sticky sweet, salty, slightly spicy coating double-fried wings. These wings hold up to the sauce and travels well To truly appreciate what I'm talking about be sure to sample 1 (or 2) as soon as you get in the car! Do it...but be sure to bring some wet naps! These wings are guaranteed sticky! The beef shortribs and japchae are also delicious along with their sesame dressing on their shredded cabbage slaw but I'm there for the wings! Service always friendly and food delivered on time! Truly a hidden gem and one of the best Asian-style wings in the East Bay. With gas prices ridiculously priced, increased toll and trying to find parking ...I'll get my wings at Mama Seoul @ Volcano Island...their soy- garlic sweet, spicy wings would make Sam Smith shed a tear and miss his show! Best to order online on their app (still Volcano Island) to minimize wait! Good way to get deals, rewards, specials!

How can wings be saucy, crispy, and juicy at the same time? I'm convince the chef went to Harvard of chicken wings. FOOD Hands down one of the best Korean fried chicken spot I've ever had and that includes many spots in actual Korea. We ordered sweet and spicy and regular soy garlic wings. The sauce was mixed in perfection. Each had their own unique flavor without being compromisingly sweet. The wings were crunch and juicy. Each bite I had the satisfaction bite while the meat is easy to eat. SERVICE While I didn't dine in, I can tell that Eli and the rest of team is running a Korean spot for the community. Right off the bat, Eli greeted me and asked about my experience in the east bay. He was friendly, down to earth, and most importantly, he was kind to all the patrons at the shop. ALL IN ALL, mama Seoul/volcano island is a small hole in the wall Korea food spot that does it right. The food is a banger and people that serves them are genuine. This will now be my go to wings spot!

FYI: This is mostly a quick pick up spot for to go food and all seating is outside. It can get a bit dark and super cold in the winter but the food is super delicious and should be eaten as hot as possible (or at least as hot as I can take). So even with this, it's worth it. They're developing their own app, but you can also order online. In store, there's an order kiosk. When your order is ready, you'll get a text message. Despite coming in am hour or so before closing on a Friday night, almost all the tables were occupied and there were several customers coming in and out and waiting to order from the kiosk. Popular spot and you can easily see why. The worker there and I believe his mom are super welcoming and friendly. Love that mom and pop small business community feel. After not too long, we got our dinner of: 1) Volcano Island Boneless Bites: -I'm a fan of boneless over bones to avoid the messy eating and maneuvering, and the boneless bites that they have here are super delicious. Nice doubly crispy exterior of the fried chicken bites and the chicken itself is nicely dense. It's not like the dry nuggets you get elsewhere. Great condensed bites of chicken and sauce. We got it with their soy garlic. Classic delicious flavor. -You can get this as 1 or 2 lbs, we got the 1lbs and we got the combo version which comes with a generous amount of white steamed rice, perfect with all the proteins that we got, side salad with a sesame base dressing, and pickled radish. Great combination of flavors and textures. 2) Island Crab: -Did NOT expect the pieces to be this huge. They're bigger than golf balls. Super filling and a delicious snack appetizer. They're imitation crab, battered and deep fried and then slathered in delicious volcano sauce (tastes like yum yum sauce and unagi sauce). -Huge burst of imitation crab on the inside and it comes with a generous amount of sauce to mix it in. I'm glad we got the combo with our boneless bites since we got to deliciously mix this in with the steamed rice. Good stuff. 3) Korean Donut: -This is a Korean dessert, it's hotteok! Definitely make sure you have napkins ready and be careful eating it since it's filled to the brim with warm and gooey sweet delicious brown sugar and cinnamon with nuts inside it too. Delicious slightly crispy exterior with the chewy gooeyness on the inside. Super delicious and more than enough for two hungry adults and we had leftovers for the next day. If I was local, I think I'd frequent this place super often considering how delicious everything was, but when I'm back in NorCal I don't mind stopping by again.

Randomly discovered this hidden gem while driving through Hayward. Eli was so warm and welcoming - definitely made our trip out there memorable! You can tell they put their heart into the store and everything tastes authentic. Excited about their monthly specials where they showcase different items. There are a few seats outside if you can't wait to dig in. Will definitely be back for more. Mama Seoul's Chicken - The Signature flavor was soo good, especially since we tried it fresh and piping hot. And for only $2.00 more you get a good amount of sides. Move over San Tung!

Who is Mama Seoul and why is her chicken so dang good?! I loved hearing that crisp with every bite! The sauce held up really well too. I'm usually a soy garlic guy, but their signature flavor was definitely a step up. Overall, really solid fried chicken here at affordable prices. The galbi was also good. Nice balance of flavors and yeah I cleaned the meat right off the bones. We didn't realized they were also doing a limited offering of raw marinated crab. There's special offering every other month or so (check their site). Highly recommend trying this place!

If you love san tung but don't want to travel to the city, this place is for you! Their signature wings were perfectly cooked. We tried the sweet and spicy, perfect balance of both. The son of the owner was so pleasant and let us try the salt and pepper wings and I'm so glad he did because those were my favorite. We also got the jap chae which could feed a whole family! Perfectly cooked and rich. You can tell this place is family owned and the food is made with pure love. It was so good. We will be back! There's limited outdoor seating but they're working on building an area for more outdoor seating. Come give this place a try!!

One of the best KFC I've had in the area!!! I tried the soy garlic and the batter and sauce were great. Chicken was perfectly crispy even after coating in the sauce. Tteokbokki was yummy as well. Both dishes came out piping hot and fresh. Wish they had more seating area for dining but we were able to sit outside and enjoyed our lunch. We were greeted with warm welcome and great service.

    Viki N.

Wow I didn't expect to find my new favorite KFC tucked all the way in this lowkey area! It's mostly a takeout spot with some outdoor seating, but would be great for anyone living nearby. It's run by a super friendly guy named Eli and his mom who each make their own implementations of KFC and they're both crazy good in their own way. I highly recommend trying both the Volcano Island chicken and Mama Seoul's signature wings. Texture is super important to me, and the crunch was just perfect. Even though I live almost an hour away, the food didn't get soggy at all the one time I got takeout. I swear I'd come all the time if only they were closer!

so very yummy ! definitely will be coming back to this hidden gem, staff was very friendly and helpful which also makes the place very welcoming !!

I was craving Korean chicken and this place was near my hotel. I didn't sample any other dishes but the wings were just what I was looking for. I went with Mama's Signature and Sweet Heat and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The owners were very hospitable and I enjoyed their music selection too. If I lived near here I would be a regular.

UPDATE STILL a 5 star, just had to rave about the Korean doughnut. So good. Also I had a Saturday's limited special see the short video below. That dish was WONDERFUL.

Door dashed it last week and was disappointed by the smaller portion. Still tasty but it doesn't feed more than 2 people. I ordered a pound of chicken and it came in small pieces. I don't think it was a pound.

We stumbled upon this small shop in a seemingly sketchy, empty parking lot and honestly wondered if we made a mistake at first. But once we walked in, the place was almost full at 5 PM--mostly with Korean-speaking customers, which is always the ultimate green flag. We were so blown away! This was easily one of the best Korean meals we've had in the Bay Area. It's authentic, salt-of-the-earth home cooking. The Soups: The Seolleongtang and Galbi Gomtang were totally legit. The broths had amazing depth and were incredibly flavorful. Seafood Pancake: One of the absolute best I've ever eaten. Super crispy and crunchy on the outside, and soft and tender with tons of flavorful seafood on the inside. The Banchan: They serve 10 different tasty dishes for banchan! Total score. Portions are large and the pricing is very decent. It's a bit out of the way if you're coming straight from SJ, but we are absolutely keeping this place in mind whenever we're heading up north toward the East Bay! Highly recommend.

The restaurant is casual but busy during peak times, and the ban chan before the meal is a lovely and diverse selection of delicious Korea appetizers. I'd recommend coming with a big group so you're able to try a lot of things! Corn cheese (5/5) - one of the best corn cheeses I've ever had - idk what they put in it but it's crack.  Ttetobokki (3/5) - wasn't too big of a fan of this one, a lot of fish cakes and the sauce was more like a soup Seafood pancake (5/5) - this one is a must try for me and a non-negotiable whenever I come. There is a LOT of seafood in this pancake and it's delicious with the sauce. Galbi (5/5) - pricey, but the dinner portion is a good size and sharable for 2. The meat is tender and tasty and cooked with the perfect char.  Bibimbap (4/5) - I do like this one, it comes with a lot of beef and veggies. I like getting mine with a side of seasame oil to enhance the flavors. It stays hot for awhile tho lol Dumpling tofu soup (4/5) - also one of my go-to orders. I get it mild, and always eat it at the end of my meal because it stays hotttt. Kong Sarang did an excellent job handling my large takeout order…read more Not only was the entire order completed within 10 minutes, but everything was packaged carefully and securely, including the banchan, sauces, and utensils. *Banchan: generously included two full containers containing seven different side dishes. My order came with bean sprouts, broccoli, fish cakes, potatoes, kimchi, eggplant, and tofu. My favorites were the stir fried fish cakes and the lightly sweetened potatoes. *Kimchi Jjigae: the broth carried a pleasantly fermented kimchi flavor. There was also a generous amount of soft tofu incorporated throughout the stew. This leaned more heavily into deeper, aged kimchi notes. *Mul Naengmyun: the chilled broth had a naturally tangy and slightly sweet profile, so the side of mustard felt necessary to sharpen the flavors further. The buckwheat noodles were pleasantly bouncy, though they had clumped together a bit at the bottom. Unfortunately, the toppings were the weakest part, as both the meat and egg were noticeably overcooked. *Corn Cheese: surprisingly mozzarella forward. The cheese was melted well and paired nicely with the bursts of sweetness from the corn. This complemented the hotter savory dishes especially well. Overall, this is a solid takeout option with efficient service and dependable packaging. I would still like to see more depth and refinement in some of the broths, but the foundation is definitely there.

In a humble strip mall with minimal decorations and a simplistic menu lies Tang's Haus, one of my…read morefavorites that I will return to time and time again and will recommend to anyone in the area. I have noticed that through the years more items have been added to the menu (now includes a back side!), but that does not compromise on the quality. The seolleongtang ($20) always comes out light, rich, and packed with umami flavor. For a dish with three components (broth, meat, noodles), there is nothing to hide behind, and each one is executed to perfection. Flaky salt is added to your own taste, which is always satisfying to scoop and stir in. Tang's Haus also features tableside service, from the cutting of their housemade kimchi to them packing up your leftovers. One of my favorite aspects of Tang's Haus, and I'm glad they continue to dedicate themselves to quality service after all these years. Check always comes with chocolates (Hershey, so good quality). I always leave satisfied and never feeling too heavy. This is your local Union City hidden gem.

When ordering, you have to order 2 plates minimum, but if you order pork, that's not included in the 2 plates. You'd have to order an additional 2 plates to mix & match. The server told us it's because you need a special cooking top for the pork so it doesn't cause a fire. Understandable, but still a bit disappointing. We opted just for the beef & seafood pancake. Beef was marinated well. Seafood pancake was alright. It came out last since it took the longest to come out. I felt there wasn't an equal ratio of seafood to green onion and just more green onion. It was a bit on the pricier side.

Since I hadn't been here for a few years and my driver got to incorrect place to celebrate his bday, I might as well revisit to see what this place was up to. Three stars will go for food only: spicy octopus, seafood pancake, and seafood soup. I also enjoyed the spicy kimchi, bean sprouts, regular seaweed and spicy seaweed. The service was agreeable with the other reviewers. The price is toward high side. The food pics are the final judge for your thoughts. Please always support the local. Not westernized sweet sugary side dishes nor full of MSG. Today, I found new Korean dish: doenjang Bibimbab: if you like a Bibimbap with a lot of vegetables, egg ribbons along with doenjang jjigae that you mixed with rice, not spicy but w kimchi and kkacktuggie, it is good . It's remind me of Gangdoenjang that I used to eat in Korea. Great portion, veggies are fresh and crunch, heart healthy, low calories.. You have to chew a lot but it's all worth it!

To be honest, I might need to give this another try fresh and in-person rather than takeout. I…read moretried the SooJa Seolleongtang which came with noodles, rice, some banchan and green onions, and salt & pepper packets. To start off, the portion of noodles was extremely small... Almost wish I asked to swap the rice with extra noodles. The broth itself just seemed to be lacking depth of flavor; no amount of salt and pepper was helping. However, it was a lot tastier when I paired each bite with some of their kimchi. The meat was thinly sliced and quite tender also. For $22, the meal was just okay to me. Can't speak much about the service and ambience because I did takeout. I'd like to come again to try everything fresh on the spot.

I just feel like they make it especially flavorful here. We recently went for lunch and it was still as good as I remembered. They also had lunch specials where you could get combo with LA galbi and a mini tofu soup, which was rlly nice cause variety! I've been coming here for a while, and the food quality and service consistency keep it at the top of my local rotation. Their All You Can Eat (AYCE) option is a fantastic deal, especially if you stick to classics like the beautifully marbled bulgogi and brisket. But even if you don't go the AYCE route, their menu hits the mark. The LA Galbi is perfectly marinated with that ideal sweet-savory balance, and the Dol Sot Bibimbap arrives in a roaring hot stone pot, giving you that perfect, crunchy rice layer at the bottom. The banchan (side dishes) spread here is incredibly generous, fresh, and refilled promptly without you having to track down a server. Speaking of service, the staff is attentive, fast, and handles the busy weekend rushes remarkably well. Whether you are catching up with friends over KBBQ or grabbing a comforting bowl of spicy tofu soup on a chilly evening, this place is a neighborhood gem. Highly recommend!
