Food: Ordered the beignets, a corned beef hash breakfast meal (husband's dish), and a 3 egg pancake combo for myself. Yum! The beignets are more doughy than I expected, but tasted fresh. This is not your princess and the frog beignet, more of a doughnut puff type? I don't know how to describe it exactly, haha. The staff was accommodating in putting their vanilla and chocolate sauces on the side for dipping which I appreciated. Pancake was good, eggs cooked well (I love a place that knows how to cook a soft scramble), while their home fries are not what I expected (I think I typically prefer a more crispy potato), this showed me that I can possibly save myself time in the future when making at home. While not crispy, the home fries were delightful, entirely cooked through with a thin crisp edge. Staff: very kind! You know it is a family run business. The only thing I found mildly off putting was that one of the young servers wore his pajama bottoms. It did not feel like something a server should wear. People say that it's a hidden gem, which is quite true because it's hard to find the location of the spot and not many people seem to know this place unless they tell their friends about it. The place looks really small, crowded, and decorative inside but if you walk more towards the back, there's probably more seatings. I honestly expect this place to be packed where I have to wait for more than 20 minutes, but again, it doesn't really seem to receive a lot of attention. Honestly, the food is good and portion size is neither too small nor big. Usually, some restaurants serve bigger portions. At least I didn't get full though and save my stomach for lunch. I was quite surprised when the pancake combo is $11 ($9 before 9am) while three-stack is $12.50. Price is quite reasonable due to portion size. The issue is when I needed my change after paying for the meal. I guess that either the staff forgot about it or some miscommunication. This used to be my goto breakfast place back when I lived in the Bay. The staff is always very nice and accommodating. Giving out recommendations and small talk. My favorite goto items is the chicken and waffles and their Beef Korean Bowl. The korean bowl comes with veggies, rice and rhe meat. They also give you their own type of bibimbap sauce. It shines as a family run eatery, nothing fancy and I'm not there for the ambience. However, today, I went back there and was saddened to see that it was struggling. The high costs of food, the weak local jobs market is clearly pressuring the restaurant, as the cost of eating out has skyrocketed. I still remember when the same dishes cost about 30-40% less about 5 years ago! I was glad that I chose to eat there today. Today my partner, our dog, and I had breakfast at Break Your Fast, and I really want to give a shout-out to our waitress, Avery. She was amazing from start to finish. Our dog can be a little protective, especially when someone approaches us before acknowledging him, and he barked at her a few times. Avery stayed completely calm and collected the whole time. She didn't let it faze her at all. She still took our order smoothly -- and even took our dog's order, which made us laugh. She tried to say hi to him without touching him (since she works with food), but he was being stubborn. His breed can look intimidating, and some places might have asked us to leave, but she was incredibly understanding and patient. We came in on Sunday and were given our choice of seating. The waitress was really kind and welcoming. Immediately took our drink orders and let us look over the menu. Unfortunately the second waitress wasn't as kind or welcoming. She seemed impatient and a bit dismissive of us despite there being no other patrons. We ordered a loco moco, garlic fries, chicken & waffles and a side of kimchi. The garlic fries were super oily but had a lot of garlic on it and were crispy. The loco moco was really disappointing with the small patty and white gravy??? Loco moco in my opinion can not be served without brown gravy. I did put a piece of kimchi with every bite just to help hide the lack of flavor in the gravy and texture and it was perfect. Kimchi is for sure authentic Korean kimchi, perfectly sour and crunchy. The chicken and waffles really left little to the imagination. Chicken was like a katsu cutlet, dry, overcooked and a bit lacking. The waffles were small and only crispy. Weren't very fluffy inside and overall the meal was dry without the maple syrup. We were maybe half way to a 3 quarters way through our meal when we were a bit abruptly brought our check. At this point there's only 1 other table with customers and we were at a 3 star review trajectory. The middle aged Korean woman who we hadn't seen at all during our meal checked in on us then just dropped the check while we were happily eating and chatting. Out of the 3 staff members we encountered, 1 was absolutely perfect and polite and nice. The other 2 were really working against the team with the lacking service and premature check delivery. Always delicious and flavorful. I know it's a simple meal but I love that they have so many meat options like hot links and spam and that they also serve rice with breakfast. It's also one of the only diner places where I can order coffee. It's actually well made and not super watery like other diners. Service is always great and their staff is usually very warm. We asked to get half vanilla and half chocolate and they were happy to do so for us. For the not as good things, the portions were a bit small and the quality of the food was not great. I've gotten better food at IHOP. The food reminded me a bit of waffles and eggs you make yourself at home. I also had a bit of a stomachache after my meal, not sure why.
