Love this place. Came here a couple times but this last time actually stayed to eat inside and not just grab it and run. The coffee is good, i got an ube latte this last time and it was probably the best ube latte I've ever had. I'm Filipino so I'm hella picky when it comes to anything ube but it was so delicious! The staff is super friendly and hospitable. I like how there is so many options for drinks & food and they're reasonably priced. This place is convenient but not good and service is terrible. I walked in and saw a man approaching so I held the door. Guy was walking SUPER slow and so I just kept going. I'm waiting at the counter and he was the cashier/barista. Interaction was meh. When my coffee was ready he was just like "Here." The turkey breakfast burrito tasted kind of like soap and it was dry. The bagel was burnt and the croissant was alright. Like I said, terrible customer service and mid to bad food but convenient. read more

Had a job in the area and saw a sign for pearls on the way down the hill. Love supporting small coffee shops but most likely this place will a one and done for me. The coffee was good, the food was mid and not worth the price. But what I found the most disappointing was the customer service. WHO HURT YOU PEARL? I've come in to this place a few over the years, convenient for students at the university and the only coffee shop at the top of the hill. Lunch nd BBQ was always nice. Now their customer service has ALWAYS been a lil spotty, it's a family business and sometimes people have bad days. BUT TODAY DAMN. I walked in around 12:45 and Pearl immediately tells me "I'm busy just wait." I say okay and check out the menu and just kinda wait and honestly Pearl seems pissed to have another customer; I think her son stepped in to take my order. He was kind and the exchange was neutral. Then about five minutes pass and instead of saying "hey we got your sandwich ready" or "croissant sandwich" Pearl says "Yeah your sandwich is ready" and gives me the most passive aggressive face, like I had been such a bother to come in while she was "doing something" This was so obvious that another customer looked on with surprise at the interaction as I gathered my stuff and left. It seems a common theme for the staff here to be just kindof bothered by customers. OH AND THE SANDWICH WAS MADE WRONG. read more

Even though I've picked up wonderful drinks and food here at Pearls, it was fun meeting Pearl officially today, and I thought it's about time I write a review. She's such a sweetie. My son-in-love, Caleb Davis, started a group: Keep Hayward Clean & Green Community Clean on the Nextdoor app. He had pick up tools, gloves, bags, etc. ready for us. We met here at Pearl's to begin our little walk up Hayward Blvd., picking up trash along the way. The plan is to do this every 2 weeks and encourage the community to join in. Afterwards, I treated myself and husband to Pearl's Island Freeze Caramel coffee drink and it was great and refreshing. I'll have to try something new each time! Great for a quick bite. Got a bagel sanwhich and it hit the spot. They were friendly and seemed family owned.

For the amount of the cost for sandwiches you'd think they'd give you more than one tiny piece of lettuce, and two baby looking bacons. Came here in the morning around 8am after dropping my kids off at school. Cute little place feels homey definitely get that family owned vibe. There's a lot of regulars I've seen come through, everyone seems upbeat and cheerful. I ended up ordering 2 ham, egg, and cheese croissants. With a sausage egg and cheese bagel, and cereal for my daughter, 2 coffees, one blended mocha and the total came in at $28 without the tip. I will say the food is great, the service was wonderful and the atmosphere was nice. Cozy little place in the Hayward hills that I wouldn't mind stopping for coffee since I frequent the area often. Overpriced food... and their Vietnamese coffee tasted just like a regular iced coffee like what were you tryna accomplish

So today was the first time ever going to Pearl's. I specifically went there, as opposed to Starbucks or Peet's, because I wanted to support a local business. I can't tell you about their drinks or food because I never even ordered. My interaction with the cashier was the worst. I asked him to tell me the difference between the Pearl's Green Tea Latte and the Matcha Green Tea latte and he acted like I was an idiot for asking. Please note that I drink green tea and matcha lattes frequently.His first response was that there were different. I asked how. He said one is green tea and the other is matcha. So I am familiar with the drink. The conversation just went down hill until finally he said he did not the know difference because he had not tried either. The conversation was so unwelcoming. I didn't bother to order anything. I left and went to Peet's (love the mobile ordering). Customer service is important. I see the other reviews about the good service there. Maybe I hit a bad day. Probably won't find out as I am not likely to waste my time to go there again. read more

Generally I prefer to support family businesses and sometimes that support comes in the form of much needed feedback. This already started off badly when the person that came after me was allowed to jump ahead of me and be taken care of first even though I was waiting for the young guy at the register to finish taking an order over the phone before she even came in. Then it turns out even though I'm spending $24+, this place is passing down merchant service fees for credit card use to the customer which is usually accepted as cost of doing business anywhere else. Admittedly, I'm probably still sour about the person that was allowed to cut ahead of me. Lastly, the croissant sausage sandwich was disappointing. There's no flavor, no spice in that patty at all. With such a simple item gone wrong, I'd be hesitant to try try anything else. The saving grace here was the pumpkin spice I ordered, and I imagine most of the drink options are probably pretty decent, but that customer jumping ahead of me really killed it for me. She even told them that we were ahead of her but they took her first anyway. That tells me they're not interested in new business, just happy with the loyal customers they already have My opinion, if you live up here and you just want a coffee (and you have some cash on you), go here. Came in for dinner, which is only available on thurs and friday. Ordered the hot link dinner plate. I must say, it was amazing. The link had a crispy snap to each bit. It had good heat to it too. Hayward, especially at the bottom of the hill where I now live, is a desert when it comes to places to eat, even grocery stores. I was happy to find great reviews to this place so I went there for a late lunch and had a hot roast beef sandwich on a bagel which was delicious. Unfortunately the service was underwhelming. The person on the counter hardly looked at me when I walked in and greeted, and when I left, after paying a 20% tip, didn't bother to turn around to say goodbye. Decided to try this place out after a quick "brunch" search in the area. It's close-by to CSUEB in the plaza with Bronco Billies and Rita's. You might miss it but it's tucked all the way at the end. I love this place. If you're ever in the neighborhood (they are located above the college on the right as you're going up the hill), then stop in. In the evenings they bar-b-q outside and make a mean salmon! Daily they serve different coffees and breakfasts. It's a family business with mama Pearl and her kids. VERY good people and a great atmosphere. Pearl's is an interesting place. With sports memorabilia on the walls and a sports game on the TV, it's a perfect combination of a sports restaurant and coffee house. They've even got a BOOKSHELF for those of us who like to sit and read with our coffee! Really it's just a great place. The food is good, the vibe is good, the people are good and my review is good.
