Such a great experience overall! Came on a Sunday morning around 10:30 and was seated right away. Staff was quick to ask for drinks and get our orders and checked on us an appropriate amount of times throughout the meal. Food was SO good! We got the fruity pebbles pancakes, a breakfast burrito, and side of bacon with coffee and orange juice. The pancakes were so good we both said we think the crunchy texture of the fruity pebbles fixed our disdain for the texture of mushy pancakes. These were delicious! The only thing I'd change is that I wish it came with a tiny extra side of condensed milk in a little spout jar to drizzle on top. The place inside is so cute, love the stained glass and the photos inside. Very cozy. We'll be back for sure :)

Doug's has a cult following. Either you love it or hate it. I don't hate it but I dislike it. The pancakes taste like it was made with water. It wasn't fluffy and had no flavor. My omelet hardly had any cheese and the veggies were crunchy. They also have a lunch menu. Im willing to give it another shot and try something different.

After trying other breakfast establishments in Castro Valley, Doug's Place still holds a special place in my heart. Service was good with regular drop by's inquiring whether or not we needed water or anything else. Other than this, I had forgotten that when you get the bill you need to bring it to the front, as opposed to waiting for the credit card payment to come back. Food was great with crispy edges on the hash brown & Cornbeef hash. Price was reasonable at $15.50 for the Cornbeef hash & for the omelette at $16.75. I had asked to split a plate & they were so kind to plate it for me as opposed to me separating it out myself. It's little gestures like this that make me patronize this place more, so thank you. Only thing is the decor which is very rustic & dated. Also be very careful while going to the restroom, bc the tile flooring is very slippery even wearing tennis shoes. For local & decent prices & portions Doug's Place is a great way to start the day!

Really good food, service was great. They were very caring for my mom who is disabled. Always attentive. Not busy when we got there it was just opening so it was perfect. Not too noisy. Great place. Food was amazing.

I know this place is s Castro Valley staple! Finally had the opportunity to try it out! The food was very solid, but some of the items came out cold. The wife is pretty picky, but she had reason. Her grilled chicken was excellent! Seasoned well and grilled just as good! However, the eggs on the same plate were relatively cold. This shows that the timing was off. My wife asked the type of chicken. She was told it was to be a bone in thigh, and received boneless grilled thighs. The cheese on my son's patty melt was not melted completely, actually, barely, and my chicken friend steak was solid. Nothing outstandingly spectacular! The coffee was pretty solid! The decor is old school with lots of edged wood and stained glass! It's a pretty decent little spot! I saw an offer for a "pancake flight!" Looked enticing! Too much carbs for me at the moment! I'll try the pancakes next time!

Been coming here since the early 2000's, and the service is still the same. Looks like the service staff is all new, but the service is still the same, great!!! Their menu gotten a little smaller, but the food is still the same tasted great and not as oily as before. The portion is a little smaller than I remember but still worth the price. Chicken Fired Steak is my go to everytime I come here, with grilled onions on the hash brown and a side of their sausage gravy that is 2nd to none!! Corned Beef Hash still as good as I remembered!!

Been wanting some corned beef has... it delivered!

The Hubs and I keep passing by the spot till we said "Okayyy, lets try it!" Boy, are we sorry that we didn't come sooner! Its soo bomb! I was craving corned beef hash and they had it. Crispy edges and still tender and flavorful inside. With the runny eggs and toast. Fresh butter and with jam. My go to for toast. Very family oriented. Service is amazing. Attentive and fast. One younger guy was probably new. He was nervous. You can tell. He spilled hot water on his hands. Hope he was okay. Best wishes to him. Been there done that. We will be back with the kiddos though for sure. Im sure they wana try the pancakes(Mama does too lol).

Chilaquiles with red sauce, sausage, and hash browns with grilled onions

I came here yesterday, Monday morning, for breakfast with my work team. We had a $20 budget per person and one of my coworkers suggested this spot. I've never been here before so I was excited to try something new. I usually stick to the same breakfast places so it was a nice change. This place gives off that old-school breakfast diner vibe, which usually has a cozy and homey feel that I appreciate. I ordered the Chilaquiles with red sauce and chose sausage as my protein. The other options were bacon or ham, which was surprising because I usually see chorizo or asada offered with Chilaquiles. I asked for my hashbrowns with grilled onions since I saw that in a lot of photos and requested them extra crispy. Eggs over medium. I also got an orange juice. Unfortunately the service was super slow. Even my coworker who recommended the place and lives in Castro Valley said he was surprised at how slow it was. Food took about 45 minutes to come out and my orange juice did not show up until around the 30-minute mark. The only time service felt on point was after the food finally arrived when they started checking on us more. The Chilaquiles were just okay. A little on the dry side. Hashbrowns were solid. The sausage tasted like a bulk pork sausage nothing special. Orange juice was fresh and good. Portions were huge though which I appreciated. I would come back again but only if the service is better.

I found this breakfast spot thanks to Instagram. The pancake flight is what interested me to come here. We came with five people (two adults and three children). The kids split the pancake flight (fruit pebbles, Oreo, and substituted for the Biscoff pancake) and two sides of bacon. The adults got the Chantum omelette with added spinach and Doug's Omelette with avocado on the side (I'm not a fan of warm avocado). The girls eyes got so big when the pancake flight came out. All the flavors were good but my favorite was the fruity pebbles. The omelettes are a good size and they don't skimp out on the additions inside the omelette. The one thing that will make me not want to come back here is the state of their bathrooms. One was occupied so I cannot speak to that one but the one to the right were gross.

Big space to accommodate big groups. There is a mandatory 18% tax for groups 6 plus. Not a big deal if you typically tip 18 The service was up to par so I didn't mind the mandatory tax. It's annoying if the service is terrible and you get the mandatory tax. I got the grilled chicken and eggs. The place has a separate kids menu so that's always a plus. I enjoyed the food. The portions were huge even for the kids. Would definitely come back.

Great place for breakfast. We went on a Sunday morning, so it was very busy. Kinda crowded by the entrance but not bad once you got inside. We put our names down for a party of 3 and prob took about 20 minutes to be seated. All the staff was super busy. The place looks like a favorite that's been around a long time, for good reason. The portions are huge and the food is delicious. My Doug's Omelette was way enough for this meal and the next. The hash browns were particularly good - they were super crispy, as they should be. My toast could've used more butter (I think they'd buttered it) so I asked for some. They gave me some hard butter - prob better if it was the spreadable kind in a pkg. But all was good. Enjoyable breakfast!

Getting up early for a medical appointment with time to spare for breakfast. Stopping by Doug's Place for a hearty plate of fried chicken steak and gravy. It was a full plate with plenty of gravy, hash potatoes with nicely crispy top that could use more time on the grill top as it was very moist and soft on the inside. The sunny side up eggs were fine. The chicken fried steak was hearty and nice with the gravy. Not much to complain about. It was simply a good old fashion breakfast.

Parking was busy (the lot is shared with Trader Joe's) but we managed to find a spot and head into the busy but not packed cafe. There is a large assortment of empanadas, from meat options like chorizo and chicken, to vegetarian like corn and onion, to sweet options too like apples. The menu also boasts lots of great drinks including mate tea! Lucky us, the empanadas we ordered weren't in stock so we had to wait ~10 for freshly baked ones. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot. Lots of wooden tables with fresh flowers make Pampas a great space to chat with friends or to sit and do some work. The most standout feature was the friendly and efficient staff who seem to build connections with everybody who walks in the door. Worth a drive to Castro Valley!
