Ordered the large hobo, chicken fried steak, and churro flavored French toast. The large hobo consisted of linguica, potatoes, cheese, bell peppers, and onions, and it tasted great as one would expect from all those ingredients. The chicken fried steak was still crispy despite the gravy which was amazing. The steak itself was cooked just right, not too tough. The churro flavored French toast was a great dessert, was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, and as a fan of churros the taste was great! read more

My new favorite breakfast/brunch place in the area! The pancakes here are super fluffy and buttery. Portion is generous and food comes out fast. I also tried the steak and the pork chop, both are delicious. You can't go wrong with the Mexican hot chocolate either. read more

I was in the neighborhood and it was brunch time on a Sunday. I have been here a couple of times, they serve a nice breakfast, American and Mexican choices. Walking in, it was packed but a few tables in the back which I have never been. The wait people were busy but friendly. They took my order quickly and the food was delivered relatively quickly too, not rushed. Someone stopped occasionally to check in. On this occasion, I ordered the huevos rancheros. It was a nice portion with rice and beans, whatever. the egg was cooked just so for me to break and have it run on tortilla and rest of my egg. Together with the rice and beans, a good balance. Pay at the front counter by informing the cashier the table number. There was a back up at the counter as take out pick up and paying diners ahead of me trying to get out. 3 stars for speed, the food and the space inside the restaurant was very underwhelming. We were a party of three seated within 15 minutes, we ordered a simple kids breakfast, breakfast sandwich and the "Mexican hobo". I didn't have huge expectations for a kids breakfast, but the other two items were just meh, the sandwich bread was a bit soggy, as well as the fries, they had no crunch and tasted like they had been sitting in a freezer for awhile. The Mexican hobo is chilaquiles, but it wasnt really cooked the proper way. Eggs were just placed in top of the sauce, not mixed in. Inside the restaurant is very tiny and loud, we're not sure if the woman in charge is "Rosy", but she won't go unnoticed, she was yelling at the staff the entire time while we were eating-- you won't be able to miss her. There was a line of about 5-6 people waiting to be seated at most of the time we had been there, maybe we missed what the memo is on what food to order. After years of living in Hayward, I'm surprised this was my first time making it to Rosy's Cafe! If you're looking for a no-frills, hearty breakfast, this is your spot. My husband and I stopped by on a weekend late morning because we wanted a filling breakfast and we definitely got it here. There was a lot of hustle and bustle when we arrived, and even though the restaurant was practically full, we were seated immediately. Service is so quick here so it makes sense that even folks who dined in were in and out. We ordered the country fried steak & eggs along with the chorizo & eggs and a strawberry agua fresca. Both dishes were really good and the portions were huge. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the chorizo & eggs again because it was really flavorful. The agua fresca was refreshing, but wish it had more strawberry flavor. It tasted a little watered down. Prices were pretty reasonable all around. Been here quite a few times...old school diner with Anerican and Mexican style breakfast. Ordered the Hobo breakfast and you get a choice of toast or biscuit and gravy. AMERICAN VS. MEXICAN ITEMS I follow some "Collections" on Yelp. Rosy's Cafe is listed on the "Collection" of worthy brunches in the East Bay. I wanted to check this place out. The first time I came here was on MLK Day for breakfast. As I walked inside Rosy's Cafe its decor felt as I was eating at a diner in the 1970s and early 1980s. For brunch restaurants the first thing I order is steak and eggs. The reason is I love steak and if I can have it for breakfast I'll order it. What was intriguing at Rosy's Cafe about the steak item for breakfast it was ribeye. Therefore the "stakes" were high. I am not a fan of French toast as I find it heavy for my taste. However the churros-style French toast was intriguing so I decided to order it. For beverage I ordered Mexican chocolate. I set low expectations for the churros-style French toast. After the first bite I enjoyed the churros-style French toast as the cinnamon added sweetness texture. Also the churros-style French toast doesn't taste too eggy. When I received my ribeye steak and eggs I feared that the ribeye was too caramelized. Since I ordered my steak medium rare I felt the steak would be medium. I was wrong the steak was medium well in my opinion. The ribeye was a downer. Since I ordered an American item for breakfast I want to try a Mexican item. I came back to Rosy's Cafe on the first Sunday of February. On the Mexican breakfast items I was deliberating between the chile verde omelette or carnitas omelette. Then I went back and forth between the chile verde omelette or the chicken fajita omelette. I asked my server out of the two omelettes if she would recommend the chile verdi or chicken fajita. She suggested the chile verde omelette as she stated that's the item she orders the most when she eats at Rosy's Cafe. I ordered the chile verde omelette. Since I enjoyed the churros-style French toast I ordered that item again. I was little worried if the chile verde omelette would be too heavy. Most of the time when I order chile verde it for enchiladas. The chile verde omelette was tasty but not heavy. I enjoyed eating the chile verde omelette with the corn tortillas. Sometimes corn tortillas can be tough and rough, but the corn tortillas I ate at Rosy's Cafe was warm and soft. As last time I enjoyed the churros-style French Toast. I would have rated Rosy's Cafe higher, but I can't get over the ribeye I ate the first time I ate here. Even though the steak wasn't tough it also wasn't medium rare as I requested. If I come back to Rosy's Cafe multiple times and enjoyed other items that ribeye I ate still lingers with me. read more

This last time I came here with friends who are from out of town and they wanted a good breakfast. We got there and were seated hella quick and the service from the wait staff was good. We were looking for a basic diner to replace the Dell Cafe in Castro Valley (which is now closed). Where to go for some basic eggs and such? Rosy's was a good find. I got the bacon, cheese and egg omelette and added avocado. The charge was $16. It was CHOCK FULL of all three items. Better than the Dell's old version. Hubby had chilaquiles with chorizo. They were good. The chips were still crispy and covered with toppings. The hashbrowns could be crispier. The toast could be more completely buttered. Parking is easy, in the same lot as Grocery Outlet. There is nothing earth-shattering about the food here, just good basic diner food. If you live in the area, it is worth a visit. read more

My family and I use to come here multiple times a month. They were nice and the food was good. For a while now, the service has gone down hill and for some in our family the food went down as well however, my dish still remained tasty. This last time we went I think it was the straw that just broke the camels back which was the lousy service. We went in there and I was trying to ask the young lady questions and she was just very short with me. It wasn't that busy yet and it doesn't hurt to be kind and smile to your patrons. Even though Rosy wasn't there that day, Rosy has changed as well. They use to be nice and it was nice to go into a cafe where the people would remember you and welcome you back. So the food to me is still good but why keep spending our money where we don't feel welcome. They just changed for the worse and it's been a long while since they've been like this. When this place opened in 2018 I had just moved up here and tried this place- the customer service was superb, the warmth the food everything was delicious- I have since moved away but back this weekend 5/31/25. So I talked my daughter into having breakfast here and this is my UPDATED review- establishment itself is clean and updated- restroom clean but only 1 stall- my daughter and I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs to share because in the past plates were a good size- now they are average size but we both shared anyway- eggs were overcooked we ordered med. we ordered my grandson Mickey Mouse pancakes which basically is 1 med size pancake and 2 small ones for the ears. Let's talk about CUSTOMER SERVICE- I feel in the past everyone was more attentive and friendly- Rosy would come to the tables and ask how everything is and chit chat a bit- felt like home- this time the young waitress which may be her daughter took our order- didn't serve us in facT the one who served us wasn't friendly at all. Kinda just put the plates down- not once did they ever come back around to ask if there was anything else we needed or how the food was or anything. When we were leaving to pay the lady at the counter which I assume was rosy (I kinda remember what she looked like)just repeated our order, asked us if it was cash or card and charged up- I mentioned how I hadn't been there since the year they opened and all she replied was oh! I have been coming here a few years now and I have been struggling on what to rate it. When I first tried the establishment I couldn't really see the allure or why they stood out. To me, they seemed like any other diner, to be honest. Then I kept going on off days/times because I was dealing with a work project that stressed me out so I needed a break and happened to be close by. Keep in mind the first few times I would order a variety of any of the American breakfasts they offered. THAT is where I went wrong. One day I decided to try the Mexican breakfast options and never looked back. I started going once a week and much to my dismay realized I'd become a regular because my server walks up to me and says "decaf and water?" Thats when I knew...lol. Fast forward to today...my outlook on a 5 star review has changed. We often rate a business 5 starts when they exceed expectations or have a beautiful establishment or serve excellent food. However, thats all in the eye of the beholder. Everyone is different and what may constitute a 5 star review to you, may not to me. I realized my idea of a 5 star experience has changed. A 5 star rating to me looks like... Food - How does it taste? Do I get excited right before it comes out bc I KNOW its gonna get bomb? Ambiance/Customer Service - not just the way the space LOOKS but how happy are the people serving you? Do they make you feel welcome? Do they remember you? Those 3 things FOR ME are how I rate an establishment. Rosy and her family are out there everyday running that establishment and while it may "appear" to be a diner or a little hole in the wall kind of place, it hits the mark for me. Look up "hidden gem" in the dictionary and you'll get Rosy's. I've been coming here for years and love it everytime. The fact I can get delicious Mexican rice with breakfast makes me very happy! You can also tortillas instead of toast if you'd like. Everything from their traditional breakfast to their Chilaquiles to their lunch plates are delicious and will have you coming back. read more

I picked up my sister up early from the airport and saw that Rosey's serves breakfasts. I read the reviews and it sounded good. I may have ordered the wrong item. I didn't see a lot of reviews on the Chorizo and Eggs which also came with hash browns but gave it a shot. The hash browns were perfect, nice brown crunch on both sides, hot and tender on the inside, absolutely delicious. The scrambled eggs and chorizo were a bit well done and the corn tortillas seemed on the dry side. My sister had the Hobo breakfast and thought the biscuit and gravy was great. The biscuit was flakey and she thought the gravy was flavorful and very good. She also enjoyed the country potatoes with the peppers and pieces of bacon in it. She said the eggs were cooked perfect and delicious. I ordered Churro French Toast to go for my wife. I don't know if they normally make the Churro French Toast with the bread ends. The bread ends made the French Toast very dry. We will cross that plate off of our list of items to try again. The service was very attentive and the woman who helped us was very nice. On my next visit, I am going to go with the country fried steak breakfast. I look forward to my next trip and the hash browns. read more
