I had brunch here with one of my friends last Friday and we had an ok experience. We arrived at 10:30 and we were the first people there. It took a few minutes for us to be greeted and then seated and then some more time after that for our waitress to take our orders. I ordered the Tom Yum crab omelet; my friend ordered the eggs benedict, and we agreed to share the ube pancake on the side. I also ordered the ube latte to drink while my friend ordered the matcha latte. When we got our drinks, mine tasted like milk with light ube flavoring and my friend didn't care for her drink either. I'll bet if we had ordered Thai iced teas, it would've been a lot better. It didn't take too long until our food arrived. We tried the ube pancake first and unfortunately it wasn't that great. The pancake itself was dry and tasteless and the small serving of syrup it came with didn't help. I'm sure the ube pancake entree was a lot better as we saw someone next to us eating it and it was topped with fruit and whipped cream. That would have definitely helped with the taste and dry texture. The omelet was really good though. The sauce was delicious and it was a perfect combination with the rice. I wasn't too crazy about the crab, but I loved everything else about that dish. I ended up sharing a bit of it with my friend as she said she wasn't happy with her meal. I saw our waitress glance to see if we were doing ok, but it seemed like she didn't want to interrupt our conversation. I noticed that she was the only one on the floor and the place was getting busy, but her demeanor seemed a bit cold and she really looked like she didn't want to be there. I'm not sure if I would come back here. The Tom Yum dish was good, but that was about it. Based on other reviews, it looks like their traditional dishes are popular, but for me there are many other Thai places that serve delicious food while providing good customer service. I think that's why I was a bit taken aback with my experience here. I've always received warm welcomes and great service with every other Thai restaurant that I've been to. Finally got to try this Thai spot, and I'll definitely be back! We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and ordered pretty much all of the house recommendations. I forgot to take a picture of the garlic sriracha wings, but they were perfectly crispy with just the right amount of sweet and spicy. We also ordered the chicken larb, the short rib massaman curry, and the Tamarind Tara cocktail. Everything was delicious, and the cocktail was a great complement to the meal. The standout dish is the short rib massaman curry. The moment we took our first bite, we both looked at each other because it was that good! The short rib was incredibly tender and literally fell off the bone. The curry was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, it easily became the favorite dish of the night. Overall, we had a great experience with delicious food, great service, and a fun atmosphere for celebrating. This Thai joint is tasty Most of their dishes are gluten free! I like their fried chicken dish over fried rice most. The fried rice is very tasty, the deep fried chicken can use a bit more flavoring but it's meant to be dipped in their sweet and source sauce. The rating for this restaurant mainly comes from the service our party experienced. Our waitress came across unengaged and unfriendly to our family. She was annoyed with the questions we inquired about the menu, especially so with the curry. In one instance, when we asked about recommendations beyond the Massaman short rib (as we thought it was too large and expensive) and green curry, mainly inquiring between the yellow and red curry, the lady responded by saying she already told us the green curry was good. Otherwise, the food was still delicious. The crab omelet was our winner. The portions are filling. Have been to their sister shop in SJ so was keen to try our local one here. Parking is super easy in the public lot behind the shop row. Ambiance is cool, very airy and inviting. Came for a weekday lunch, 3 of us and got seated right away no problem. Love the special options on the menu, so many interesting things to try! We got two Chef's Specials: 1) Chicken and Waffle: Croissant waffle, crispy chicken thigh, syrup, whipped butter 2. Mama Pad Kee Mao: Stir-friend instant noodles, homemade spicy sauce, fried egg, seafood, bacon, bell pepper, onion, fingerroot, tomatoes, basil, green bean, peppercorn. We really enjoyed both dishes! The Mama Pad Kee Mao came first, and we asked for the mildest level of spice. We were pleased it wasn't too spicy, and the texture of the noodles were great! Seafood was plentiful, with shrimp, scallops, squid, octopus, and clams. The chicken and waffle was so great! The croissant waffle had a great texture that was perfectly chewy and crisp, and the chicken was juicy with crunchy breaded skin. I knew it had a good reputation in the neighborhood, and the packed dining room confirmed that it's a popular destination. We were seated immediately, which was a great start. To begin, we ordered the enoki mushrooms and calamari. The mushrooms weren't quite what I expected, and they had a flavor that reminded me of oil that may have also been used to fry seafood. The calamari was decent but could have benefited from more seasoning. For my entrée, I ordered the Fried Chicken Benedict. Unfortunately, it was the weakest part of the meal. The fried chicken was very underseasoned and lacked flavor. When I cut into the poached eggs, excess water ran onto the plate, which diluted the hollandaise sauce and left the dish tasting a bit watered down. That said, not everything was a miss. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Most importantly, my sister really enjoyed her meal and said she would definitely come back. While my food didn't fully meet expectations, the strong service, pleasant vibe, and my sister's positive experience were enough for me to give this place another chance. Pretty disappointed because Khao Hom is the first result when I searched up 'cute brunch spots" on yelp. Was expecting something instagram-worthy, maybe some stylish interior here and there, and cute photo spots. I didn't see any photos of the inside of the restaurant on yelp, so I had no clue that Khao Hom would look like a regular family restaurant you could find everywhere. Felt like they only put effort into the area near the entrance of the store, where they have a grassy shelf and a weaved palm tree. Cute, but there's gotta be more to qualify as a "cute brunch spot". We ordered the pad thai, Roti gai tod, Ka-Pow Short Rib Benedict, and Pad Ka-Pow. I found the pad thai great, good portion and really flavorful. One of the better pad thais I've had, and I loved the color. The tofu absorbed all the pad thai sauce and when you bit into it felt like a pad thai bomb! Totally recommend this dish. The Roti gai tod was a big dish of surprises. I found the fried chicken great: it wasn't too dry and the batter wasn't so thick it felt heavy. However, the roti was really really oily and soggy. When thinking about roti, I would imagine something that is crunchy, flakes falling out when you bite into it. However, this roti tasted like an oily pancake, no joke. The curry was great though! Loved loved loved the aroma. BUT, the potatoes that were in the curry were SOOO undercooked, I don't even know how to tell you without exaggerating! They were so dense and had that raw, "sandy" texture of a raw potato! Dang, what a bummer. The Pad Ka-Pow was okay. Not nothing much about it that stood out to me.. I guess it's because it was a really safe order. Lastly we ordered the Ka-Pow Short Rib Benedict. This, actually, was not a plate of surprises, but a plate of disappointment. I've seen many photos of this on their yelp page, so it really convinced me to order it, as I thought it was a customer favorite. (Or maybe it is, and I just really unlucky this time) The short rib was really lean and stiff, the type of meat you can find on the bottom of a pot of a chinese soup. In short, it was overcooked, and was not tender at all. For this dish, you're able to choose between salad, or potatoes. I chose potatoes. Again, I hate to repeat that the potatoes were hard. Last thing: the egg benedicts were overcooked!! Have you ever had an egg benedict where the yolk was not runny??? I haven't either.. until I came here! Service was good. Though they were busy Here, There, and Everywhere, they were able to respond to us promptly. A huge fan of Thai food and wanted to try a new restaurant. Khao Hom was of the restaurants that showed up with impressive ratings so I decided to try it with my family. Parking is very tough. Very limited street parking but we were able to find parking about one block away. Parking is available at the garage, one block away. Upon entering, we were greeted within five minutes but we were very rushed. It wasn't full, it was roughly half full and still plenty of empty table available. As we arrived at 2pm and we were told that their was kitchen was closing soon, we were very rushed to order. We were given water and placed our orders and never really checked on, afterwards. The ambience is very simple and the space is quite small. It's very loud and we can hear the conversations from others because of the echos. Our appetizer and entrees arrived altogether, which is perfectly okay. Our appetizer and entrees were flavorful and delicious. I enjoyed my meal very much but I didn't enjoy the service. Not very attentive or kind, just very pushy and rushing. I would return in the future for to go orders but most likely avoid dine in. The food is delicious and would recommend. read more

I went to try a breakfast / BRUNCH that specializes in Thai because I hope to travel; or, even possibly to MOVE to that area of the world. I am not a fan. I had the ' Ube Pancake' . It just didn't work for me. First of all, I didn't want the fruits and the special sauce. I requested regular syrup, which was an extra $2, for a little more than a tablespoon. I ordered another. But, maybe, just maybe if I had known what kind of pancakes it was ... maybe, just maybe, I may have warmed up to it. They left an aftertaste that I never recognized. I had heard about their coffee and was looking to try it. It was good coffee but they had milk, and not cream. They provided sugar, reluctantly. One of the reasons why I went in was because I saw all of the Asians going there. I never got the impression that they were accustomed to serving people who were a darker shade than they were. All of the customers appeared to be SouthEast Asian or Asian period. There was an Anglo-Saxon who came in after I did. They didn't appear to be especially comfortable with him, either. Or, maybe it was just me? They looked to be Handicap accessible; but, they were uncomfortable with my wheelchair from the beginning. I requested the check. The manager saw that I had clearly NOT managed the pancakes. They NEVER offered to dismiss the charges and gladly accepted my money. Parking is easy, both times we've been able to find street parking near the front immediately unless we happened to luck out (not a frequent patron of this neighborhood). So far I've tried the following. Brunch Crab tom yum omelette for brunch. Although the crab is real, I'm not sure if I'd get this dish again because of the portion/value. It's good, just pricey for what you get. Thai tea pancake. This one was alright. It was definitely on the denser side, rather than fluffy. The pancake itself had some thai tea flavoring, but it didn't taste that great. We did like the thai tea syrup though. It was nice having the fruit, although I felt like the tea and fruit sort of clashed so I ate them separately. The drinks stood out! Thai Wakeup with jalapeno and mint. So clean and crisp. It's smooth because of the Tequesta (agave wine). Strong, yet tasty! I love that it's unique, and I'd definitely get this one again. My second visit I immediately ordered this one for dinner but it felt weaker?? Not sure if I imagined it lol. Peach Whiskey which was sweet and tart. I could not taste any of the whiskey. It's much lower in alcohol content, but refreshing and summery. I like my drinks stronger so I'd probably skip this one next time. Dinner Pad Thai. Classic, tasted great, texture was perfect. Some places overcook the noodles to the point where they are soggy. Here it was Al dente, and had a bounce to it. I'd get this again. Yellow curry. The crispy enoki mushroom was my least favorite--while nicely fried, it had more of a crispy onion texture, and I wished it included a heartier or different type of mushroom for more bite. On a positive note, I appreciated that they offer an oat milk option for the Thai iced coffee. The roti gai tod was a standout: it comes with two pieces of fried chicken thighs, roti, a side of curry, and a sweet-and-sour sauce for the chicken. Everything was well-executed and satisfying. This was a pleasant surprise. Been here twice now. The first time was okay. The second time was with my nephew during Mother's Day. I'm willing to give it an above average rating. Parking, there's a lot behind it between A and B Streets if you can't find anything on Foothill. I mention this early since parking is challenging. There is also a parking structure about a block away on D Street. Food here was above average. This last time I went. The short ribs were good. I was expecting it to be incorporated with the Eggs Benedict and not as a side dish of sorts. Service was adequate, though I never received my utensils or napkins for that matter..I had to use my mother's fork. Ambiance is nice. A nice modern feel inside. Overall nice to visit. I've been here a few times already with my husband and Khao Hom continues to show they know what flavor is and how to execute. On my most recent visit, I opted for their enoki mushroom, roti, and beef noodle soup and was surprised by how good everything was. The beef noodle soup was impressive in size and was enough for another meal later that day. The enoki mushroom was good but hard to eat due to it being stringy. The roti was also good with the curry to dip in. There are parking spots in front of the restaurant and across the street as well as around the block. Overall, it's a solid place to stop by if you're craving an Asian fusion brunch. read more

It was my first time eating at Khao Hom. I booked a 6:30 PM reservation for my mama's birthday. They had the table ready for us when we arrived and there weren't any issues with the rest of our party arriving a few minutes later because - Asian time. I didn't have any of the drinks, but my husband did and thought they were delicious. The restaurant is nicely decorated and spacious. The store front is in a pretty grubby looking town center area, but nothing grubby about the inside. The food was delicious and well flavored. We loved the roti dip, short rib noodle soup, tom yum soup, kra pow, and curry. The fried chicken was a little dry. My only complaint is that the portions were relatively small for the price. I've been to Khao Hom a few times now, and on my more recent visits we've come for breakfast/brunch. Each time, the experience has been consistently great. The staff is accommodating, friendly, and provides fast service, and the food has always been excellent. I especially appreciate that this is one of the few Thai restaurants that opens early for breakfast. Their signature crabby tom yum omelette never disappoints , the eggs are rich and buttery, and the crab is fresh without any strong fishy taste, blending beautifully with the tom yum broth. They also have an adorable kids' menu. My son has tried both the pancakes and the French toast on different visits and enjoyed them each time. Overall, Khao Hom offers a great ambiance, attentive service, and delicious food. It's definitely a go-to spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. read more

A great addition to the food scene in the downtown Hayward area with a semi modern twist on Thai cuisine! Came here with my friend and we ordered the crab tom yum omelette and it was so flavorful! It was a bit on the pricier side but I loved the tom yum flavor and there was a TON of crab meat in the dish. We also had the roti gai tod which was the fried chicken with fried roti on top. This was just okay! If you're hungry and need something to fill you up, this is definitely the dish to order. The fried chicken was nothing out of the ordinary and didn't have much flavor on the inside. The roti wasn't bad but I wish it was a little thinner. The curry that came with the roti was good! We also decided to get the mango sticky rice and it wasn't bad! I think it really helped that mangos were in season. I will say that everything was on the pricier side. After tip, the meal was almost $80 and we only ordered those three things. I would come back with more people so that I can try brunch, more of the classic dishes, and maybe even the cocktails (they look interesting). So good I came to eat x2 within 3 days ! Brunch and dinner ! Brunch was delicious eggs Benedict with short rib and potatoes , definitely enough to share. Avocado toast with smoked salmon. Bloody Mary was the star ! I'm very picky about my Blood Mary but this hit all flavors. Friendly service, clean attentive. Dinner was even better fried chicken with roti and rice, pad se ew noodles all so good and of course a Bloody Mary ! Go visit eat and enjoy this great spot ! read more

I've been here twice now, and I'm only writing a review because I really tried to give it a fair chance. The first visit was already meh, but I thought maybe it was just an off day. The second time confirmed it for me, the food is really lacking in flavor. I'm not sure why there are so many good reviews. Even the most basic dish, Pad Thai, was disappointing. We actually had to go home and "fix" it by adding fish sauce and tamarind. The tamarind salmon was the best of what we ordered, and even then it wasn't great. The calamari was about 70% breading and 30% chewy squid, the larb was okay.. We ordered three dishes and the total was around $80+, and honestly, none of them made us happy. We won't be coming back two chances were enough. The service, however, was good, and that's the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. There are better places out there that serve truly flavorful Thai food. read more

The perfect addition to downtown Hayward! Khao Hom is a great spot to get Thai food that's both traditional and modern. They serve brunch and dinner and have slight variations in their menu. Some of our favorites: -Crabby Tom Yum Omelette: worth the hype! Never had a dish like this before. The tom yum sauce is tangy and flavorful. It has huge chunks of crab as well! They serve this during brunch and dinner. -Tom Yum Fried Rice: again, their tom yum hits! The fried rice has the perfect amount of tom yum flavor without being watery. -Pad See Ew: I think this one could be slightly saltier, but the noodles are cooked really well. I've tried tofu and chicken and they give a solid amount of protein. -Roti prata: two thick pieces of roti with a curry sauce. Great appetizer! Service is pretty fast and efficient. I've gone here during prime lunch / dinner hours and have never had to wait. It might be hard finding parking on the Main Street so would recommend looping behind to park in the parking lot. read more
