This is our local IHOP and I've been coming here since first moving to the area in 2014. To me, IHOP has always had the best buttermilk pancakes out of all fast casual breakfast corporations in the area. I could literally order a short stack and call it a day. IHOP is your run of the mill diner, but they are exceptionally fast with their service, and the food taste is consistent. I loved that I recognized a server who had been there since a decade ago. I've been here on the weekends and on the weekdays; weekdays are still busy, but on weekends, expect there to be a wait. I will say the food came out fresh but there was a bit of a delay in receiving my drink and my pancakes were supposed to have strawberry on them which the sever Jacob give me on the side. I noticed him doing a majority of the work while I was eating I saw him serving multiple tables without any assistance while his coworkers stayed talking and joking around with each other. I felt bad for him. I believe his manager came up to him and told him he needed to hurry up and clean. Although his co workers weren't doing anything in that moment the manager did not care and only gave him a talk. Whoever owns the Ihop needs to speak to the manager about proper management. I also noticed one of the employees had given a family member a customers food that had been ordered to go and her family member asked her for money which she allowed him to grab from the cash register. I wouldn't want other employees to lose the chance of receiving their tips because of this or even money being taken out of people's paychecks if there's missing money which I doubt they would do but still. You can tell Jacob was trying his best to do without any help so I truly do hope they give him a raise. I also noticed a possible health code violation such as running cold water over butter I'm not sure if maybe something was stuck on it this was one of the female employees. As well that same female employee had her phone on speaker out in the open while again Jacob was serving by himself. The up side is, from my experience, there is never a wait time. Pre covid this location was always crowded. Now you can find an empty parking stall steps from the front entrance. The downside is, staffing. Clearly they had to cut back. You are seated quickly but you end up waiting just as long as you would if the place was busy. But I can't fault them for that. I had always wanted to come to this old school IHOP. We finally had the opportunity thanks to my husbands family. He grew up in Hayward and so did pretty much all of his extended family. They chose this IHOP to have a mini little reunion. Come in early or be prepared to wait. While the wait wasn't long we did definitely wait. Other reviewers have said it looks small from the outside but they do have lots of seating. We had a bigger group and we sat fine. The best part of this IHOP is the service. I don't think I have ever had the pleasure of being served by such wonderful people. They were awesome! We ordered so much food too. I tried keeping it simple with just eggs over easy and sausage. The kids got benedicts and chicken and waffles. One kid got pretty much a dessert crepe they claimed was breakfast. My husband is an omelets lover so he go something like that. Everything was great. October 2023 Update - IHOP is the newest restaurant to offer up biscuit meals. So I tried their breakfast sandwich with 2 scrambled eggs, hash browns and a side order of sausage. Of course I had to have bacon on the sandwich too. Sandwich was pretty decent and had that fresh taste. On some breakfast sandwiches I've had from some well known places, the biscuit was either too crunchy or too big for me to eat ETC. I think my next adventure in biscuit land with IHOP will be to try their biscuits and gravy and see how they compare to some of the others I've had. The food is always good and the variety is wonderful. My only complaint is sometimes the food is not hot but lukewarm, but I have never had to send anything back. I like when they have special menus so I can try out new things, recently they had blueberries and cream cheese French toast. It was so good! They had this bacon maple jam that was to scream for too! Something changed at this restaurant recently. Last year our family enjoyed the Fisherman's Platter which is three generous portions of batter coated codfish and shrimp all served to a golden brown. It was delicious. Today we ordered the same dish, but the fish was overcooked to a burnt dark brown and drenched in oil. My wife said she didn't understand how someone could serve fish that looked that burnt and charge $18. We complained to the server who offered to bring two more replacement fish. Those were cooked to a nice golden brown. IHOP needs to work on their quality control and retrain their cook. I live ordering and picking up from here. What was so impressive was the passed three times I have ordered they have the food ready exactly at the time they quote over the phone. Extremely efficient. Having a hot breakfast is always a plus. Not to mention how perfect each item ordered was, exactly how I expected. The staff are great and on top of their game.
