Visited for lunch around 2:30 p.m. We were seated near an area with several tables that had not been cleaned. It took about 10 minutes before a server came by with utensils and water. Once we ordered, the food arrived and was good, and our server was pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, while eating, I noticed my shoe sliding on the floor. When I looked down, I found that the floor was dirty and covered in a mushy substance that had gotten stuck in the ridges of my shoes. It was pretty disgusting and completely took away my appetite. I'm giving two stars because the server provided good service, but the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was unacceptable. Based on this experience, I won't be returning. read more

We waited a few minutes for a table. The place was packed on a sunny weekday afternoon at 11am. They gave my friend's baby a high chair, so he can join us comfortably. And even gave a him crayon and a picture to draw on. We appreciate it, even thought it only was used for 2 seconds. Our waitress came by fast to take our orders. I think this is the first time I ever got my menu on a newspaper. Which I thought was pretty cool, to match the restaurant theme. I got the egg Benedict with sweet potato fries, and it was delicious. It's my first time in a Black Bear and I love it. I love it that the menu is a newspaper. I love it that they have a merch store. I love it that they kept their theme of bears - lots and lots of bears. There's even a bear claw donut in the pastry case. Been here multiple times and experienced dreadfully slow service where we're sitting with water for over 30 minutes to an hour not being checked on once before our food finally arrives. I feel like the service has not changed. They have always been friendly and welcoming. This time around, we came on a Sunday night. It was after a softball game, so we came in a group of 9, with 3 joining us after. We were sat within 5 minutes of getting there. We got two half booths where the kids were next to us but not with us--thank God. They got to have their time, and the adults had our time. The server was quick and friendly, got all our drink orders and kids' meals entered within the first 5 minutes of sitting. Once she brought the drinks for all of us, the adults entered our orders. I was so busy talking, so I'm not sure how quickly the food came for the kids--but quickly enough to not bother us. My kids both got the grilled cheese sandwich with fries. Definitely enough for my 6-year-old, but my 10-year-old needed more food. That was our fault--he's a big kid. We ordered an extra side of fries when he was done with his meal. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Cobb Salad. Immediately, I knew it would fill me up. I wanted something light on calories but heavy enough to fill me up for the night. This was the perfect choice. Everything was delicious. My husband ordered the BIGFOOT Chicken Fried Steak. He has been recently obsessed with Chicken Fried Steak, so he had to order it, haha. It was delicious as well. Today was by far the worst experience. This is not my first time here and it will be my last. My mom and I shared The Grizz, the meal is huge for two people. The service was quick and our wait time for food was about 10 minutes. We got country potatoes, over easy eggs, bacon, sausage, and French toast in our meal. The potatoes were drenched in grease and very salty. We ordered an additional set of country potatoes and those were raw, hard, and bland. We had to send them back three times and still ended up not eating them. The eggs were hard and we were told there was nothing wrong. We had to dispute the waitress in order to get a new set of eggs. I see now why this Black Bear gets so low ratings. While it appears to be popular, with lines out the door, service is extremely slow. We waited almost 25 minutes from the waiter taking our order, to food being delivered to us at our table, and 7 minutes from being seated. No water offered. I got a coffee and it was empty most of the time. The other thing that was most annoying was that we got a very small booth with a small table, and our salad came out right with our primary food so that there was no space left. I have no idea why the salad did not come right away and took 25 minutes for some lettuce and stuff to be put on a plate. Other places space things out so that if there is a long wait at least the customer is entertained with some appetizer. We saw our waiter a total of 4 times over the 1+ hour we were there. And there were errors with our order that due to the long wait to even get the food we decided to just not have fixed. They missed extra busy as well as we wanted another item, but also given the wait and the lack of seeing anyone that really cared, we skipped. The restaurant seems newer than the one I. Fremont, but service is not what I expected. We will be avoiding this one from now on unless given a reason to try it again. I would not recommend this place for breakfast, unless you don't care about time, service, and order goof -ups. read more
