We waited a few minutes for a table. The place was packed on a sunny weekday afternoon at 11am. They gave my friend's baby a high chair, so he can join us comfortably. And even gave a him crayon and a picture to draw on. We appreciate it, even thought it only was used for 2 seconds. Our waitress came by fast to take our orders. I think this is the first time I ever got my menu on a newspaper. Which I thought was pretty cool, to match the restaurant theme. I got the egg Benedict with sweet potato fries, and it was delicious. Big portion and also came with a small fruit bowl. My friend and I finished our whole plate. The waitress came a few times to check on us. Parking was easy, since they have a parking lot.

Always a solid breakfast. Stronger coffee for the early morning breakfast. Cannot beat a Black Bear Breakfast! #spicemeister approved.

It's my first time in a Black Bear and I love it. I love it that the menu is a newspaper. I love it that they have a merch store. I love it that they kept their theme of bears - lots and lots of bears. There's even a bear claw donut in the pastry case. We ordered a couple of big breakfast before my buddy ran his 50k and I got some hiking in. The portions are large. I ate my breakfast and saved half for the next day. Fast service. Good food. I would absolutely come back. Private parking lot. Please come and create your own adventure.

The food is great and the portion sizes are very reasonable so much so that you may need to bring a doggie bag home. The service is quick and the staff work like a well oiled machine. This restaurant has that old fashion diner feel that has been it's trademark since the beginning. I remember back when they weren't open 24 hours and I would rush over right before they closed. This is a happy place for both the customers and staff.

I feel like the service has not changed. They have always been friendly and welcoming. This time around, we came on a Sunday night. It was after a softball game, so we came in a group of 9, with 3 joining us after. We were sat within 5 minutes of getting there. We got two half booths where the kids were next to us but not with us--thank God. They got to have their time, and the adults had our time. The server was quick and friendly, got all our drink orders and kids' meals entered within the first 5 minutes of sitting. Once she brought the drinks for all of us, the adults entered our orders. I was so busy talking, so I'm not sure how quickly the food came for the kids--but quickly enough to not bother us. My kids both got the grilled cheese sandwich with fries. Definitely enough for my 6-year-old, but my 10-year-old needed more food. That was our fault--he's a big kid. We ordered an extra side of fries when he was done with his meal. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Cobb Salad. Immediately, I knew it would fill me up. I wanted something light on calories but heavy enough to fill me up for the night. This was the perfect choice. Everything was delicious. My husband ordered the BIGFOOT Chicken Fried Steak. He has been recently obsessed with Chicken Fried Steak, so he had to order it, haha. It was delicious as well. With great company and delicious food, it was definitely a successful night. The server did great with serving the kids and the 3 people that added to our group at the end of the night. We will be back!

Today was by far the worst experience. This is not my first time here and it will be my last. My mom and I shared The Grizz, the meal is huge for two people. The service was quick and our wait time for food was about 10 minutes. We got country potatoes, over easy eggs, bacon, sausage, and French toast in our meal. The potatoes were drenched in grease and very salty. We ordered an additional set of country potatoes and those were raw, hard, and bland. We had to send them back three times and still ended up not eating them. The eggs were hard and we were told there was nothing wrong. We had to dispute the waitress in order to get a new set of eggs. The French toast and sausage was delicious. The bear theme and inside is cute.

My bf got the build your own with pancakes and I got the cinnamon French toast combo. The cinnamon toast was good but a lot, I had to balance it out with an egg. Very sugary. My bf got the basic pancakes, bacon and eggs. Overall, service was good. Food took a bit to come out. But I'd like to try other things next time.

Received 2/3 meals I ordered through Door Dash & the meals I did receive both came with 1/2 sides...ridiculous. I only ever have issues with my order during dinner time, like cold fries or dry sandwiches, but I usually take it to the head and fix it myself because we're only human we make mistakes. Missing a whole meal though?? On top of that, NONE of the meals received even being complete is beyond me. Whoever works during breakfast & lunch does a great job, I never have complaints. I appreciate them. Dinner time shift needs new employees. Also, the meatloaf 9 times out of 10 comes with a single onion ring on top instead of what's in the picture.

Chicken Fried Steak. It was good. Nothing wow. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Opens all day. Nice for late night working peeps.

Service was friendly. Place was clean. Food was okay. Nothing I would come back for. Its open all day so nice for folks that work late/early.

If you want to eat at a place that has good quality and a big enough portion to either share or take home for leftovers then this is the place to go. There were some notable things that we stumbled across in our dining experience. I had noticed that one of the utensils wasn't washed properly so there was a dried up piece of vegetable or something stuck on it. Also I requested my burger to be cooked medium but when I received my order, it was more so well done with no pink in the middle. One of the two pork chop was cooked great, while the other was a little dry and chewy. Regardless, these were things that didn't warrant calling over a server. The thing that mainly put a stain for our restaurant outing at Skillet'z was the service. Upon walking in we were not greeted with a friendly welcoming and when seated they quickly walked away. The lady who took our order did not even look like she wanted to be there, granted I understand that nobody really enjoys having to go to work but if you need to interact with customers, maybe this isn't the occupation for you. While we were eating there was not a single time that anyone came up to us to ask us how we were doing, if we needed anything, or how the food was. There was a moment where it was someone's birthday at another table and I don't think I've ever heard a more unenthusiastic and monotone announcement for a birthday and a lame excuse for a birthday song. They're not going to bother with dropping off a check/bill for the meal so you need to go up to the counter to pay for the food. Once you step up to the counter keep in mind that more than likely you will encounter a rude interaction and a feeling that you were inconveniencing them. Overall I'll more than likely eat from here again, primarily for the food. But maybe next time we'll consider just taking out to go.

I love the New Orleans food scene and therefore had a pretty high bar for Cajun food outside of Louisiana. I came in a little hesitant because I've been disappointed too many times by the options we have in the bay for Cajun food. But after I opened the box and took my first bite of that blackened shrimp Po Boy I could've sworn I thought I was sitting in the French Quarter again. The nice young lady that took my order recommended the blackened shrimp as an underrated choice on the po boys so I had to try it out. I came stuffed with a Red wine coleslaw, tomatoes, pickle slices and a drizzle of their special sauce (that I can only describe as spicy cajun mayo). 12/10 and I'm not exaggerating I also had a side (and when I say side take it with a grain of salt cause this feeds like 3 people for being a side) of the fresh Crab fries. Not overdone with the ingredients yet what a powerful hit of flavor, the Cajun seasoning usually comes out a bit salty on fries but these guys figured out how to balance it with the fresh shredded crab on top, garnished off with some green onion and more special sauce, this thing made me look around the room to see if anyone else was reacting like this over the food. (And they were! People were sitting there talking about "last time I tried ___ and ___ and it was fire") In the end I saw a guy that looked very proud to be there and was helping around the place while running back to his computer, that was Brett, the owner. I had to go and shake the man's hand and pick his mind a bit. He's a born and raised in New Orleans guy and you could tell by his kindness and southern hospitality. (Dude gave me a delicious carrot cake to go) Unfortunately in the end I had to walk back out into the reminder that I was in Castro valley and not New Orleans but for minute I was able to remember everything that had previously experienced from my trips there and that's what a great meal should do for you. His city should be proud of what he created here. I will absolutely be back to work my way through the full menu and add more pics to this review.

The wait to order wasn't too long, maybe 15 minutes? While you wait, you pass by a display of cookies and they even have samples out for everyone to try. The staff was very nice, even though they were super busy! We tried: - Free chips & salsa: These are a must everytime I visit denica's. They are a great snack while you wait for your meal. 9/10 - The ube pancakes: These were pretty solid. I didn't think that the pancakes themselves had a very strong ube flavor, if any. I think all of the flavor was in the ube coconut sauce that they come with. However, there is only sauce on the first layer so you might want to get extra! It is an additional $2.75 or so to get the extra side of ube sauce, though. The pancakes themselves could have been a little more moist and fluffy, as they were a bit dry and dense. I loved the fruit and sauce, so that definitely made up for it! I'm glad that I got to try, but I don't think I'd get them again. Instead, I would get a regular pancake and a side of the ube coconut cream! 8/10 - The chorizo burrito: My bf said that this was also a pretty good option. He thought that it could have been a bit more flavorful, but was still satisfied with his meal! 7.5/10 - The side of hash browns: These were good, as to be expected! The portion was a bit small in comparison to other diners in the area. 7.5/10 Overall, I always enjoy my experiences at denica's!
