We went on a random Thursday for brunch, so my review is based on that. I can't speak to how busy weekends are, but the day we went, it was perfect. There wasn't a wait for food or a table. It was actually pretty empty. Such a homey vibe and the chefs/cooks were super friendly and attentive. They cooked our food outside on a grill vs a traditional kitchen. The prices are pretty good for all the food you get. They stack your plate! We really enjoyed all the food (chilaquiles rojos and the verdes with meat, and three quesabirrias). We couldn't finish it all! You can tell it's all homemade, which is nice. A lot of places don't make their chilaquiles sauce from scratch. We'd definitely return. The only thing I'd pass on is the Vietnamese coffee. Maybe it was our fault for ordering this at a Mexican spot, but it tasted more like cold brew than Vietnamese coffee. read more

Parking is slim to none, so be prepared to park on busy A street. The establishment is small but decorated nicely with Mexican artisans. They have seating in the back area but it still a bit snug and the tarps covering the area tend to make it warmer. For context, when I visited it was a beautiful day but it felt a bit hot due to the beaming sun on the tarps. The food definitely tastes like a homemade meal. It's good! I recommend sharing an entree, the servings here are very generous! I tried a Vietnamese coffee but it wasn't great. It was too sweet and tasted more like cafe de olla iced coffee. After having driven by this cafe on multiple occasions, I finally stopped in here with a friend for breakfast. We each got the salmon bagel, tea, and a latte, then found a table on their cozy and beautiful back patio. The drinks came out in beautifully painted drink ware. This place was such a nice spot to catch up and chit chat over good food. The servers were super friendly and helpful, and we never once felt rushed to leave or vacate our table. The noise level was just right, too. You would think being on A St would mean we'd hear cars the entire time and would have to talk over other tables, but everyone was respectful of each other and my friend and I could hear one another speaking just fine. Parking is limited; there were maybe 4-5 spots on the side of Sandra's Barberia, but you can park on the street and walk over. read more

The señora that run this place are very, very nice and the owner was a wonderful gentleman to have a conversation with. The food was so delicious. The menu is pretty good sized. They have some great breakfast offers. As well as luncheon dinner. It's decorated in a Mexican thing with pottery and pots and cups and it makes you feel like you've left the United States and gone to Mexico and in the back area had lots of cactus and different things to make you feel more like you're out of the country. the food was absolutely delicious and fresh and I love the flavors and you can build the layers of flavors of the sauces that you're offered. I got to say that I love that they have cafe de Olla! I'm willing to drive just for it alone (I live half hour away.) It's run by some older Latina ladies that always super nice when I've gone. They sell food there, I haven't tried any of it yet but they sound and look delicious. They have pastries as well. They also sell natural juices which was pretty neat to see. They have some tables inside even though it's kinda tight but their whole backyard there's more tables where you can sit at. The spot is kind of hidden so just make sure you're paying attention to a spot that is painted green with their name on it. They have a parking lot and there's also street parking. Arteaga's is right next to it, just try not to park in their parking lot, just to be considerate. read more

I wasn't a fan of either pastry, but my friend loved them. Super cute gem of a hole in the wall! Located on A St. Coming from Mission, the Cafe is right before Arteagas, can be easily missed. Parking is next door to the barber. You can feel the warmth as soon as you walk in :) walls decorated with lovely mexican handicrafts, trademarking the aesthetic. I ordered the Caesar Salad, pretty large portion, comes with chicken, fresh everything, even the Parmesan:) I had a large Vampiro (beet, orange, carrot juice) and a pumpkin latte. The vampiro was generous. The pumpkin latte had the perfect mix of bold, creamy goodness! The prices were pretty good considering quality and portions. I was offered a sample of chia, that was good! Everyone was friendly with a neighborhood gem feel with a Cute outside spot to enjoy and chill. We came for the mini conchas but will return to try more. World's best coffee!!! My wife took me here this morning and I feel like I haven't had a good cup of coffee in ages !!! It was my lucky day I guess. Everything here is absolutely perfect!! From the decor, to the vibe, right down to the customer service. Mind you I've had coffee in Cost Rica, Italy, and New York!!! Friendly and fast service. They were pretty busy when we went for brunch on a weekday. There are food items written on a blackboard as well as a different menu that's printed and available where you order. This caused a delay in ordering because people didn't know about the other menus. My husband had the The Mix sandwich and I had the tuna melt. Both came out HOT and delicious! We didn't like the salmon spinach salad. While it was a huge serving, all it was was a pile of spinach with torn smoked salmon pieces like the one you buy from Costco. The added strawberries didn't make it taste any better. We sat in their pack patio. Be careful with their chairs. Some weren't very sturdy. read more

This is a bustling business with many people walking in and out of the store for coffee and/or on their break. I walked in on a rainy day and there was limited indoor seating with two small tables inside but plenty of outdoor seating. I ordered a crepe, cheese ball, and a side of eggs. This came out to about $25 after tip. The strawberry banana crepe was good but very sweet, though I did say yes when they asked if I wanted Nutella. The eggs were cooked over medium as I requested and it was nice they did the side order on the fly, charging $3 for one egg. My least favorite part about the meal was the cheese ball. Although it was warm on the outside, the inside was a little tough and cold. It also was not cheap at about $6 for the small cheese ball and I thought maybe they should have some more price transparency by putting the prices on the case where the pastries are (or at least somewhere). Overall, my experience here was good but I would probably forego the cheese ball. The staff here was very kind and keep the place clean, but please note that the staff mostly spoke to me in Spanish. read more

Fantastic food, drinks, and decor! For a huge portion of fresh salad that is made to order, I recommend A Romo's Cafe. The Chef's Salad comes with a green dressing that was unlike any other dressing I have tried before, savory and flavorful. The serving portion is huge and could easy serve 2 people, although you might not want to share. The lemonade was refreshing and not your typical lemonade! I didn't ask but it tasted like a little grapefruit and sparkling water was added, which made it 10 times better. There is a small parking lot on the side of the building specifically for A Romo's customers. The patio seating is beautifully decorated with the same Mexican folk art. Only downside: horrific availability of parking -- there's basically nothing in front street-wise (very busy street too), their adjoining lot is super small, or you can gamble and park in the grocery store next door. Food was alright. We got here and the lady at the register said the food would be ready in about 40 minutes. We got our first two dishes 20 minutes into us waiting, then we waited over an hour for the other 3 dishes to be ready. Honestly I wouldn't recommend the service wasn't really good it looks family owned so no one took initiative to hurry and serve people or at least accommodate for the long wait. To be honest, from the outside (views from the street) it doesn't look like much. But I stopped for brunch with my wife and daughter, and we were wonderfully surprised when we went in. I'm first generation Mexican, so it was super refreshing to see so much art and mugs, glasses, etc on sale with a traditional Mexican art style. The staff were super nice when they saw us walk in and briefed us on the menu, seeing that we had a toddler. Well, the wife and I both got the chilequiles, and my daughter got a strawberry crepe, complete with nutella and whipped cream. We also got her a Oaxacan hot chocolate, which my daughter loved! Especially since it was served in a Mexican clay mug. We learned there was outdoor seating, which we found to be charming, with a different chair at every table, and charms hanging up on the rafters, and loteria boards on the tables! We gushed how much we loved this. Then we got our food from the cook who was hustlin, and man, we forgot to take a photo. SUPER big portions, and exactly the kind of texture I expect from chilequiles. Literally tortillas that were chopped up and crisped, not the easy way out and using tortilla chips. I could go on, but we're definitely going back. Their menu was so vast, and I'm jonesing to buy one of the mugs they had on sale. IF anything, the part of Hayward it's in is a teeny bit sus, but man, this place sure wasn't here when I was growning uo in Hayward. Hopefully this place stays a long time. A disappointing first and last visit! I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately, my experience was tainted by an unnecessarily harsh interaction with the owner. I arrived first and was quickly greeted and asked if I needed a menu, which I appreciated. I ordered a coffee and a cookie while waiting for my client to arrive. When I asked to hold off to order for my guest, I was told the system wouldn't allow that, so I completed the transaction. All fine. Once my client arrived (who didn't want anything), we sat down at a nearly empty cafe to do some work using the Wi-Fi. Less than 15 minutes later, we were approached abruptly and told that bringing outside drinks wasn't allowed, that my guest hadn't purchased anything, and that the owner had bills to pay. There was no warmth or professionalism just a lecture in front of other customers. I calmly explained that I had made a purchase and was using the Wi-Fi as intended, and also that we were unaware of the no-outside-drinks policy (my client had a tejava). Instead of a courteous reminder, we were met with defensiveness and a dismissive attitude. I'm all for small businesses protecting their space and covering their costs but hospitality matters. A simple, respectful conversation would've gone a long way. Sadly, this left a terrible impression, and I won't be returning. read more
