Was Craving for something refreshing. This Dragon Bowl was it! Soo good!
Pheap S.

I love this spot! So close to me and its nice and clean. Friendly service too. No complaints because, I adore fresh and healthy joints like these.

sunshine bowl
Irena S.

Came here yesterday for lunch, party of 2, got the sunshine bowl (the one that has mint in the base). Bowls are about $13-16 each. Pros: - I guess 1 pro is that it's an acai place and there's not that many of these around the area to compare it to. - Very easy to order - you can just use the kiosk to order and it comes out in like 5 mins. - some indoor and outdoor seating, good for parties of 2-3. - the mulberries that were toppings were actually really delicious. - Decent portions - it can really just be more of a meal than a snack if you get a large. - Decent number of options for parking since it's in the village - Overall staff was friendly and the place was clean, spoons available next to the window so you can help yourself. - Modifiable bowls and you can add toppings for extra cost Cons: - I wasn't a huge fan of the mint flavor in the sunshine bowl - so unless you love the taste of mint I wouldn't recommend it. - Some of the fruit felt like it was still icy or frozen. - A little overpriced, I know inflation etc. but I kind of wish the prices were $12-13 instead. I'm open though, to trying again and ordering a different bowl!

The Dragon Smoothie

Vitality Bowl is a convenient place to grab a smoothie if you're in downtown Castro Valley. It has a fairly big menu with plenty of options from smoothies, bowls, and other food. The store is rather small and has some seats inside among with a couple outside as well. The service can be slow at times, so make sure to order ahead if you can. Other than that I'd recommend if you're looking for a quick snack or smoothie.

Anyone home?
Neil L.

The vitality bowl was just ok, nothing special, typical castro valley status quo... I'm giving this place one star because the experience of ordering and sitting in was terrible. Orders are placed via self order screen, not bad in itself, but the cashiers hide behind the kitchen door and avoid eye contact to dodge helping customers. If you can get their attention they seem to be bothered by your presence. I missed my chance to ask for a cup of water when my order came out, couldn't get anyone's attention for a long while. I waited and watched other customers go through the same thing.

Warrior Bowl

I love vitality, this is the first location I tried. I love the bowls, avacado toast and juice here. I came in today. The service was great and quick. It is a small location but they have a couple of seats. I tried something new today. The warrior bowl was really good. Everything I tried has been great so far.

"The eggnini" (5.99)
Victor G.

Vitality Bowls here is just an ordering counter. no inside seating area. barely enough room to social distance for a couple of people. offerings: smoothie, bowls, paninis, salads, drinks. eats: "The Eggnini" (5.99) on whole wheat -nicely toasted bread with big fried egg over easy with greens, cheese, yummy! -made to order. ready in 10 ish minutes. take outs: -would have ordered salad/bowl but couldn't decide on particulars. -lots of parking since some eateries have closed.

Gooey salad bits ... eww

(It was worth the 13 mile drive for me.) With floor to ceiling windows welcoming in the comfort of daylight and warmth of Californian sunshine (thank you A/C), this cafe sits high above Castro Valley overlooking the distant hills and the bay, depending on where you sit. It's in the front space of a church and upon walking in (my third visit), I feel held by the Lord. Strangely, I'm feeling tears well up because this is the exact sort of space I've been needing as I go through some challenging life circumstances. It is peaceful here but it also has a vibrant community energy on a Thursday late morning. This space is welcoming to all of the bay are community and if you didn't know it was a church, you would never know. It's for the whole neighborhood and beyond. There are tall round tables, bar tables, normal round tables, armchairs at tables, long barnhouse style tables. This space was thoughtfully curated to allow for relationships to be grown, work to be done, and quiet time to be experienced. The Americano I had is nice and strong (whoowee... I'm awake now!). They had interesting drink options and some baked goods. Prices were average for the Bay Area. I love that the cafe supports community outreach. From the web, it partners with this church and community programs. It seems to operate around community support and social impact initiatives. I love that they actively support Inclusion & Autism awareness and medical debt relief (WOW!). This is a cafe that is doing it right!

The Castro Valley one is super tiny, no indoor seating and really only enough room for about 2-3 people to line up to order for the inside. It's a bit too tight in there for me. They do mostly Asian inspired pastries, mostly using croissant dough in all kinds of creative shapes and sizes. Even though many things don't fit my preference as I'm not big on savory pastries or ones that have meat in them, they do make some attractive and unique looking pastries. So I get it, why people line up for this. But I have tried several sweet type pastries and here are some notes. Custard Tart ($4/5*) Probably one of the best egg/custard tarts I've ever had. This is one of the simpler things in their display case. This is literally a flaky pastry and a well made custard filling. Most everything else in that display case is 2-3 times bigger and much more going on with fillings and decorations. I like simple pastries so this hit on my sensibilities big time. The custard was smooth and not too sweet, very Asian in sweetness. And the best part was the crust, it was so flaky, light and buttery. 10 times better than any egg tart I've had a Chinese or Portuguese bakery. Almond Danish ($7.50/3.5*) This is one of their more elaborate creations, even tho this is somewhat simpler than many other pastries they have. But this name doesn't really correlate with what I tasted, there is a lot more going on. The pastry part is in the shape of a muffin, but the texture is flaky like a croissant, maybe slightly more dense than a croissant. Then there may be a small amount of almond paste in the middle, but there were a lot more of this coffee cream. This was too big for me to eat in one sitting so I split it in half. It was decent but it definitely isn't an Almond Danish. Lol Strawberry Croffle ($5/5*) I love true Belgian/Liege waffles made with a yeasted dough but cooked til crisp in a cast iron waffle press. Not sure if this is Liege style but it carried a lot of the characteristics of one. Crisp from caramelized sugar being cooked in the exterior, nice chew in the center and garnished simply with a strawberry cream. I could eat this for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Cold Brew ($4.25/3.5*) I didn't love it, but it wasn't bad. It tasted better if drunk with one of their pastries. Alone I wouldn't do it again. But as a companion with a pastry, sure. I'll round to a fiver cuz service is usually pretty nice and efficient. And even tho 75% of the things here are too busy and complicated for me, the simple things I have tried, really schmacks. So a fandom has formed.

We heard that there had been some long lines recently and that the bread can sell out fast, so he went ahead of me to get in line before they opened, but he said there actually wasn't a line this time. We went on a Sunday afternoon and got two each of the regular and chili oil scallion breads. Once I got to the cafe, I ordered the banana pudding matcha latte. We sat on the bench outside to eat our bread and noticed that it tasted just a *little* like it had been sitting out for a while. I wouldn't describe it as stale, it just didn't have as soft a texture as we expected. However, it tasted absolutely delicious. I'd recommend getting both flavors if you can. The chili oil one wasn't spicy, in my opinion, it just had a kick of chili flavor. The banana pudding matcha latte was a little less successful. The pudding was great, but it just sat on top of the drink. When I mixed it into the matcha, it still wasn't coming through very strong and the drink tasted almost entirely of matcha. It was disappointing because I love banana so much. I think I'd be better off just ordering the banana pudding in the future. I'd like to come back here on a Saturday to see if the bread is a bit fresher, and I'd order the banana pudding rather than the latte.

The KA was decent; I would call this one a diet KA because they only put the sugar on one side so it was more like a brulee'd croissant. I also have to admit that, while this shaping is very attractive, the direction of the lamination makes eating this feel like shards in my mouth. However, flavor was excellent. The plain croissant is very plain. It's decent but I've had better. The scone and panna cotta, however, were delightful. Both had lovely soft textures and wonderful creamy flavors. It was me and my son's first time trying one and we both loved it. The strawberry and mango breezes were good too, although they had a lot more cream than I prefer. I didn't realize they were made that way, otherwise I probably would've asked for less. Service was just okay and the decor was modern and cute. Not rude, but not especially warm or friendly either.
